    Thanks for the tip...I'm working on my 84 928s and getting ready to give it a full tune up.

      Nice! i think the 84's have solid mounts so engine mount failure tends to be less of an issue on them. Thanks for watching and have fun with your project :)

    Now what makes it so expensive? Are Porsche engine mounts simply overpriced for some reason or are things in the way that you have to disassemble to get to the engine mounts?

    • @Auto_Funk
      @Auto_Funk  Рік тому +1

      They are very expensive at £500 each because they are oil-filled instead of just being solid rubber. Also you do have to drop the subframe to fit them so it’s quite a bit of labour as well… Worth it though because functioning engine mounts make a huge difference to how the car feels 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      @@Auto_Funk Oh ok. So the oil is to dampen it like a shock absorber instead of it being more wobbly like a regular car? I guess you wouldn't know if it was bad while on the highway? Do other expensive cars like maybe that Lotus in your other video have oil filled mounts like that?

    • @slashmaster2
      @slashmaster2 Рік тому +1

      @@Auto_Funk I imagine when they go bad a rip happens and all the oil leaks out?

    • @Auto_Funk
      @Auto_Funk  Рік тому +1

      @@slashmaster2 yep exactly - the oil has a different damping characteristic compared to solid rubber and I think it’s better suited to the 928 engine weight and for whatever reason Porsche thought it was a good idea… The Esprit has regular solid rubber mounts. I think the CL 500 I did a video on also has hydraulic engine mounts but I’m not 100% sure!

    With all respect!! Be the proud owner of 928, with full service history. The accredited Porsche agencies will know to use the correct fluids, to combat deterioration. Go purchase some bargain 928, and pay your dues afterwards!!

      Indeed! With 928 ownership, a lot of pain can be avoided by paying more for a well looked after car ... There are some VERY bad ones around, certainly in the UK. Thanks for watching! :)

      Hey :) not at the mo… What sort of 928 are you looking for?? And where are you based? I might be able to help source a good car if you need some help. Thanks for watching :)

      @@Auto_Funk thank you for getting back to me.
      I'm looking for a 928s2 manual transmission, preferably a 1985.

      @@forum2013 nice choice - If I see something I think might suit I will reply again here. I have just arrived back from the South of France. While I was there I found a 928 hidden in a very remote location on my way down. It was a USA car and I'm not sure if it was manual or not. Stored down the side of an old farmhouse and it looked like it needed some love! I would have asked the owner about it but my French isn't strong enough to have a conversation about the car sadly.

      It felt very underpowered and the steering wheel felt like trembling.

      @@forum2013 sounds very familiar. I am convinced most 928's are not running correctly these days.... Disappointing for you. I am sure you will find the right car :)

    How to avoid a $4000 bill - Make sure the radiator IS NOT ORIGINAL!. The engine and gearbox oil flow through heat exchangers built into the radiator (Not all 928's have both). The radiator water will eventually corrode through these heat exchangers allowing either the radiator water into the transmission fluid or into the engine oil. If you have a 30 year old car with the original radiator, trust me, change it out , it's not just an overheat from a hole in the radiator you need to worry about, it's a destroyed engine or auto gear box from radiator water, plus it's not fun cleaning out oil from the engine coolant system.

    • @Auto_Funk
      @Auto_Funk  2 роки тому +1

      That is VERY true! It happened to me in a 928 once and I had to break the car for parts because at the time it was uneconomical to replace the gearbox !
