I'm currently doing this job on my '85 928S 32 Valve. With my car supported nicely on my four-post lift, I can't even begin to imagine trying to do this job lying on your back with the car supported on jack stands. While your video is a nice synopsis, you left out how difficult it truly is to manipulate the cross-member back into place. In my case, I also had to raise the engine approximately one inch more once the new mounts were in place as the cross-member wasn't even close to its mounting bolts to allow me to tighten up the cross member. I will be posting a video on my channel to show this difficult but critical step.

At least I’m not the only one living underneath a 928. Can’t think of a nicer place to spend a weekend 😂
I’m pulling my aftermarket headers for factory ones

Great work and very helpful video! Kudos! I am looking to buy a 928 and would love to see your thoughts on what key things to look for when "in the 928 market" based on what you've learned with yours. Just an idea for a future video. Keep up the good work!

I'm probably not a great person to give advice on that since I have a habit of buying cars that don't run and don't have paperwork. A good place to find that kind of info would be rennlist.

Hey man, good job on filming the hole procedure. Really helpful. I have this job waiting for this winter, I'm not going to touch the rods thou, only got like 85,000Km (52K miles) on this 89 GT.

I was kind of baffled by the need to check the rod bearings, but it was strongly suggested to me by quite a few of the 928 gurus. There were 229k miles on the odometer when I got the car, but my gut feeling still tells me this ain't a 229k mile motor, but I have no history of the vehicle to know if it was ever touched before.

Great video. I have an 86 that has a seeping oil pan gasket... I was thinking of doing it with the motor mounts at the same time. Any idea of the hours this all took?

Does Roger sell those Volvo mounts? If not, what specific model/year Volvo are they for?

Hello, excellent video and a great help. Do you know the torque setting for the bolts, e.g. the mount bolts and crossmember ones?

I don't remember, but if you look on rennlist for a pdf copy of the wsm to download it should have them listed. Might vary by year anyway.

    • @IntenseBlue318

if you're talking about about the wooden engine support braces, they attach to the lift points on the front left and back right corners of the engine

Removing the oil pan does require lowering the steering rack, removing the starter, and removing that crossmember. Removing that crossmember does require removing the lower control arm from the chassis and supporting the engine from above. At that point you may as well change the motor mounts if they're questionably old.
I worked on it a bit here and there for a couple days, but you probably could get it all done in a day if you were diligent and had everything on hand.

@@aventuraporsche9286 Getting the crossmember bolts to line back up as well as the bolts for the lower control arm can be a pain. I didn't think it was too bad but it seems like others have had worse experiences with them.

Hi from Western Australia, Great video mate, I’m just about to do engine mounts now after finishing timing belt, I got my parts from Roger also, my question is what did you bolt to on the engine to make it lift with the timber and thread, I also need to make something to lift the engine
    Thanks
    Steve

There are metal loops bolted to those two corners already. I don't know if maybe it's only certain years, but I got the idea most of these cars had them.

@@Stevie_G8 they were right on the corners of the cylinder heads. When standing at the front of the car, one on the front left corner and one on the rear right corner. On my 32v car at least they stick up past the cam cover along the sides (not front/back).
