What's great about Viera roleplay is that you can take any name and it's valid. You Viera liked a strawberry milkshake when he or she tried it? Just name yourself Strawberry Milkshake from now on. My viera's name is "Alice Kupo" mostly because I wanted to make an Alice Cooper reference. In character, her first ever friend was an Elezen named Alice and she thought the language of the moogles was adorable when she met them for the 1st time. So she took Kupo as a surname. It's incredibly "stupid" but totally possible at the same time. I love it.
My characters name is Min Blomst or in my language it means "My Flower" I didnt even know Vieras would do common folk names like this so I'm totally down for that because now the name actually isnt far fetched in character either.
@@Britonmarie after learning this I like to believe that the viera Warrior of light has existed since the sundering and just has been getting amnesia every calamity because of hydalyin so the reason hades has been unable to find azem is because he’s been looking for a mortal that reincarting when they are just indefinitely wandering around
The info on the cold climate Viera was rather interesting. I appreciate having more information on the race and i look forward to a potential zone in or around Viera homeland. We still have much and more of the world to discover and it's so tantalizing imaging where our journey will take us next.
The men of the viera aren't kicked out at all, but rather adopted by the other men. Male viera are naturally reclusive and so they live self-sufficient lives. Young males aren't at all rejected by vieran society, if you speak to the wandering dramaturge in kugane, he'll inform you that male and female viera actually have a vastly profound degree of respect for one another, despite their separation.
A very common misconception is that men are kicked out, or live only to serve as a breeder role, but males remain in contact with the female villages for trading, adoption, and mating. They serve as protectors of the wood, primarily, serving in tandem with their sisters to preserve their ancestral woodland.
You missed a part about names (though I am unsure if this was known then?) male viera are named differently from female viera. Specifically in their surnames, and only for forest names (city names are the same for both). Male Viera will usually take a surname that essentially describes where they are protecting. For veena in particular, they always have the suffix -wesfv, which I believe is icelandic? iirc, it essentially means "protector" or something to that effect. So, you'd have lakewesfv, treewesfv, using the name of the village they were born in in particular is popular.
looking forward to the update here with the new info we got. I'd love for someone to mention the interesting connection between Male naming conventions in Golemore and the 12 elements.
I am assuming you mean princess Ashe? That is who she obliquely refers to in those cut scenes. she is a Dalmasca Hyur. As far as we know the Greenwood and Viera culture has no monarchy or direct hierarchy. -Elioaux
Always glad to help. Ashe is the last of the royal line and was alive when the empire took over Dalmasca 30+ years ago. According to field notes and other resources though it seems the Viera put her in some kind of sleep until recently so she’s actually still youthful. There is a lot more to it and it will likely be part of a Dalmasca/IVth legion story in the future. -Elioaux
I had a theory a while ago that the Golmore Jungle is actually alive to some extent, like the twelveswood is- after all, were not the early settlers of the twelveswood just as xenophobic and insular in nature? The Viera just go the extra step of making any outsider a pincushion.
If a male vieran is trained from birth to be a self-sufficient craftsman and combatant, and then allowed to live his own life, what if he gets upset during the angsty phase, and decides to forget the Green Word and leave when he's an adult? Is the forest just "so wonderful and cool" or something?
No, jacks are taken in by other male vieras once their gender becomes apparent, which is around their 13th namesday. Once in training, they are required to strictly adhere to the green word. Should they survive their rite of passage, which isn't guaranteed, only then they are allkowed to walk their own path.
It would be a very interesting meeting between the Viera and the Volgia Bunny Warriors from G.A.T.E. - Thus the J.S.D.F. Fought There. Perhaps a crossover fanfic?...😊❤😊
True~. I wonder if the Shetona viera live a similar lifestyle to Dalmasca viera? Or if everyone lives together in tribes and such? Very curious indeed. Erenville's new info included. ❓😗❓
I strongly doubt it, wherever his "homecoming" is taking place, it's not going to be a Viera settlement (certainly not a traditional one). Him being in Sharlayan means he either left the forest or was born to parents who previously left the forest. In either case, he wouldn't be welcome in the Viera's forest home and they would likely try to kill him on sight like all other outsiders.
My Viera WoL was created knowingly breaking some of the lore established in FFXIV. Half-Vieran and half-Hyur (her mother left Golmore and married a handsome sky pirate) and she doesn't have the last name "Eyurt". Her last name is Bunansa. And yes, "Bunansa" is the same one you're thinking of, as is his Viera wife/partner-in-crime, who is the general of the Lethe's Tear. And being only half-Vieran, she doesn't live as long as full-blooded Viera, but still far longer than other races.
and not one word how a race "most attuned to nature" spends life in the forests walking on stiletto heals. or in outfits that would make a BDSM mistress go "now, hang on a moment". 😂 Also, it kind of dumped Viera from the Source and the First together. You'd expect (and in fact, we are shown) quite a divergence.
That's because canonically viera's feet are like like bunny feet, so they can't wear flat shoes. It is of course not a case in FFXIV, cause you can wear whatever you want (but for 90% of hats lol)
@@VV-sque Shouldn't they have huge feet then? 😆 And hop more than walk (now that would be a sight). Viera race bonus to Dragoon jumps! And YET! Stilettos in the forest? Good luck with that!

The backstory of my Viera is that she was born in Dalmasca, with both her parents being sky pirates. So naturally she grew up in the clouds more often than in the woods. It was during one full moon night that she finally took up a city name, Lunaria Moonleaf. She loved the moon, finding it the prettiest thing in the sky, and her mom often sang her to sleep of the forests in its light. But alas, it would not last, and her parents brought her all the way to Gridania at age ten, where she’d enjoy the rest of her childhood safe, far away from the Garlien empire. Now, thirty years later, she’s an adventurer who is a sky pirate at heart, always getting into trouble seeking thrills across the globe like so many so young often do. So yeah, that’s my head canon for my warrior of light.
