I have a theory as to why only certain people can become Reapers. Drusila claimed only those with a natural tie to the Thirteenth can form a pact. By that logic, I think only Sundered souls can become Reapers, because the only voidsent they can form the pact with is another shard of their own souls.
That may be true for all but the WoL, we had a TON of void interaction prior to finding out reapers exist. We likely built up a connection though lots of exposure. Not to mention our soul by default is much denser and stronger than the low tier voidsent an average reaper can command. So it wouldn't really try to mess us up cus it would fail every time.
Isn't every soul on Eorzea sundered?
@@LiorVolf In the sense that their aether is split among the shards, yes, but not every soul is the reincarnation of an ancient. New life was born over the eons. Those who do not have the Echo are not sundered in the same sense as Azem.

You're correct, though you're wrong on the semantics.
Everyone on the star/planet is sundered with exception of the dragons (whom were not on the planet when the sundering happened) and those 3 ascians (rest in peace).
"Sundered" means split, a fraction of the being, of the original being.
The Warrior of Light, though sundered just as everyone else, is a special case, an exception of the rule.
The other Echo users are not confirmed to be a special case like the Warrior of Light, with a denser than most aether, at least until now.
@@LiorVolf Actually, you are in the wrong. Every ancient had the Echo (a more powerful version), so every sundered ancient can wake the power. Everyone with the Echo is a sundered ancient. Azem's version of the Echo seemed to be more powerful, allowing him to peer into the future, so our Echo also gives us precognitive abilities.
Whether everyone on Etherys today is a sundered being (ancients weren't the only beings there when the star split) depends on whether new souls are being constantly generated. If yes, then there's no reason why some sentient beings today can't have already "smaller" souls from the get go. If no, then yes, we are all reincarnations from sentient beings that predate the star's split.
I'm still just tickled that the "Angry Farmers" meme became cannon.
Reaper has a lot of parallels with historical shinobi - using farm tools and partisan tactics to assassinate high value targets, thereby inciting revolutions and allowing the reaper, in this case, to fight better armed and armored opponents.
Except that historical Shinobi we're spies that didn't use specialized weapons and often were Samurai ordered to act as spies.

I definitely saw the parallels myself with the edo style Japan and shinobi traits, that’s why I decided to make it my dps main while going through stormblood. 😊
On the one hand, I don't want any more pacts with faeries or voidsent or anything else on my pixelated soul...on the other hand...have you HEARD the sound effects? The slices of the scythe and the low RRBHRbrRR when the avatar goops at things and then the SCREAM when it merges with your character -even though sometimes you time it wrong and just stand there possessed like oh, well this is awkward, for the phase change or you're still in your Reaper combo when the boss is low and the Dragoon steals the LB from you AGAIN. Its still so so good.

What I like about the voidsent is that they're all unique and not necessarily evil. If the recently published book is anything to go by, Reapers either tend, or exclusively do, make pacts with their voidsent shards on the 13th. That, coupled with Azem's shards' tendency to be heroic, means our voidsent must be pretty nice.
Right up there with Black Mage as a top tier chuunibyou class. And I love that xD

@@eastbow6053 You literally fight a necromancer in one of the dungeons who raises dead people, plus theres a bunch of times the dead is raised in ff14.

My question is where does this leave Dark Knights? Something i feel many don't bother trying to understand how & why Dark Knight channel & manipulate void magicks.
Dark Knights don't use void magic. Their magic comes from the "abyss" which is basically just the trauma and negative emotions within. A dark knight channels aether through their emotions, usually negative emotions.
That said, it should be noted that magic is relatively new to the dark knight fighting style, iirc.

A dark knight uses their darker emotions to burn their inner aether to protect those they love. This inner love allows them to tap into their inner abyss.
@@reo0ogen740 The scorching themselves to death was because they did not have a soul crystal to focus the energy(stormblood I think? pretty sure hw was the one we hunted a voidsent with the ff11 genius extraordinare) but thaum and black were known to open portals to the void and pull power from the void. It's why blacks can CLOSE rifts(arr line) one reason they have the "forbidden tomes" for the red mage quest line(still love that lala librarian. "Oh you need a forbidden tome lemme pop to the back my little avatar of destruction") Keep in mind canonically only true blacks are us and the 3 arr tribe members since black magic was outlawed after war of magi(not that it's stopped thaums from dipping their toes in)
The night is always darkest just before the dawn. The reapers just try to expedite the process.
