I absolutely adore the Au Ra. Their culture is so unique and fascinating, both from the Raen and Xaela. I put hours into creating a name and backstory for my Raen boy, and I'm so proud and invested in Ryuji. Also, the Azim Steppe is the single best zone in FFXIV, the amount of culture crammed into it is astounding. I'll be honest, when I first walked into the zone and heard the daytime music swell, I started tearing up. I may be Raen, but I was home.
I have no doubt Xeala and Rogadin would have good chances of getting along, after the obligatory test of strength, as both hold strength, physical or otherwise, in high regard
Considering the Au Ra penchant for running their aether through their body for physical combat I’m not really surprised that when they focus on pure magic they’re equally terrifying. Their single mindedness when it comes to training just makes them that much more formidable and I’m glad we have Sadu on our team. I will admit that challenging her to another duel does have my interest though as after our battles in Garlemald I think she may have gotten even stronger.
I just really wish SE would separate the horn selections from the face selections... But, hey, we've been barking up that tree since they released. I love the Au'Ra lore though. Definitely an awesome race with tons of roleplayability. I mean, look at all the variety possible with just Xaela based on what tribe they come from...
My favorite race, the moment I learnt about Yuugiri going to Heavensward I decided this is who I am going to be throughout the journey. Follower of Azeyma and adopted the name Surya(Sanskrit for Sun) and TennoKishi/天の騎士 (Knight of the Heavens) and admirer of Yuugiri I became a Ninja. I'm surprised when arrived at Radz Ad Han and saw a lot of fellow Raen there and interestingly they used Sanskrit in naming convention as I am i.e Campaka/Kanchana/Saurya and it feels like it is my home and my favorite hanging spot now. 8 years and going, I love my dear adventurous Raen who always have a somewhat angry face that might scares off people but she gives the most sweetest and heartwarming smile.
The Au Ra are definitely an interesting breed. one of my three main is a male Au Ra. in my head cannon he was the baby of two adventurers who died in Eorzea but a kindhearted Elderly Hyuran Lady took him in and raised him which left a deep mark on him. So his demeanor was more that of a Hyuran and he became a Kindhearted Paladin. It was really interesting to play a character who was completely out of touch with his own people when he traveled to Doma.
My main is an au ra who was born in Doma, but has little memory of it aside from certain things her grandfather (a hyur--her father's father, so she'd be no discernably different from any other Au Ra) taught her and told her about. He brought her to Eorzea since it was the safest place from the Garleans and there was plenty of guard/mercenary work to be had for an old samurai due to the beast tribe conflicts and all that. Doman culture as a whole was something she only knew a bit about, and since her grandfather who raised her wasn't an Au Ra, she knew even less about Raen culture (her grandfather married one, so he knew some about it, but it still wasn't *his* culture so it wasn't something he could pass on).
@@BroadwayRonMexico like i said it's fun to have a little story for your char. Hey your and my Au Ra can meet and wonder together about their own people. Love Au Ras, they are my second favorite race in the game next to Elezen. My second character I made is a Xaela female and I absolutely love her! Absolutely loved this video, just surprised there was no mention of the Hotgo tribe that is mentioned in the Alexander raids!
My character's a Xaelan who has faced hardship from other races during his travels/childhood with his tribe (not one of the 51 or so Azem Steppe tribes - he was born on the Steppe like most of his family members but he basically grew up roaming with them), what didn't help matters was his appearance which made him look more like a demon or a voidsent than an actual hero and part of his story is to show that 'appearances aren't everything' - I've even made up his backstory and information on his tribe that he grew up with
Yay, it's my drago girl's lore. My little pink-haired Raen healer has (nearly) run the whole story as scholar/summoner. Until she found sage then it was all over for the dual job. Not to say that tiny girl can't also mess one up as anything else, since black mage is my favorite non-heal class.
Great work as always. Looking forward to Viera, cuz I've always loved the bunnies of Final Fantasy, and I also love how XIV got to break new ground in the franchise by introducing us to the males of the race.

"It is because the Dawn Father Azim and Dusk Mother Nhaama willed it so." -My Xaela Summoner Also, considering the unique evolution and growth cycles of dragons (they change forms a lot as they grow), who's to say that the Au Ra really have absolutely no ties to dragons?
@@Getsugaru well i mean Xaela are mortal so that puts them far and away from dragons. If a dragon became an Au Ra, they would still be a dragon theyd just look different as far as other dragons were concerned. Also other dragons would acknowledge their dragonhood. I was super convinced the Au'ra were another Allagan creation for a while because the oldest thing at the Steppe, supposedly the origin of all Au'ra, is an Allagan relic. But then we saw in the First that they also had Au'ra, so it can't have been them this time. The First also doesn't have proper dragons, so it can't have been them either. Where in the lore did you find information that explicitly states that Raen are not as strong/has more agility than Xaela? I took the statement in the lore book more as a generalization and not hard fact.
Physical, hand to hand combat? Xaela. Probably around seven or eight out of ten times. Physically stronger and more resilient. More muscle. Most Xaela are used to working their bodies every day just to eat and survive. They'd be on average, much more primal and ready mentally to go all-out pure survival instinct mode. I mean, sometimes they get into such a battletrance frenzy that it never wears off, becoming permanent extreme aggression to former friends and foes. A blessing and a curse. I'd venture Raen would be more intelligent and well educated, co-mingling with some of the more scholarly races at a wider spread. Better spellcasters on average. Maybe better ranged capabilities in general. I'd venture a mage group of Raen with a Roe' tank could be more than a match up against a pure melee group of Xaela. However, let's just say; ten strong mixed party of all Xaela vs ten strong mixed party of all Raen... I'd bet on the Xaela every time.
Interestingly, the Au Ra have no connection to dragons whatsoever. Besides their appearance, nothing of the Au Ra’s culture (especially Xaela) or physiology is similar to draconic culture or physiology.
I think the most reasonable theory is them being akin to pangolins instead of dragons or voidsent (although them being connected to voidsent would be quite cool I admit).
