Gilmour: the only person to play at Pompeii twice since 79 AD the first with an audience. Keyboards; Chuck Leavell played with the Almond Brothers, Greg Phillinganes was Micheal Jackson music director. Guitars, Chester Karmen played for Madonna, Duran,Duran, Macartney Guy Pratt, drums Steve Disftanislao played for Crosby & Nash, Kenny Loggins, Joe Walsh. After this tour Dave sold 121 guitars for $21 million donated the money> The " Black Strat" went for $3.9 million without his Jimi Hendrix guitar strap XXX Which Jimi played the national anthem July 4 , 1970.
On the studio version, David sings that chorus. But I don't think he felt he would be able to pull off those notes live. So he made an amazing choice getting that man to sing it. Perfection. And I think his guitar solo is as good as Comfortably Numb. You've got world class musicians on that stage and they are just in awe with joy. Even David was like damn, I just killled it lol! This entire Pompeii concert has actually surpassed Pulse for me. I don't know if it's his age, or my age, but all of these songs from this show are just special. And I did see Pulse in person as well as this tour (not those exact two shows). This man is the greatest of the greatest. It's also neat to see a man singing one of the verses in Great Gig in the Sky. It has a different feel from the song I've heard hundreds of times.
YES! Both of those from this show! As much as i love Rattle That Lock, while not my favourite of his solo records, has some of his best solo work on it. Faces Of Stone, In Any Tongue, and the extended version of Rattle That Lock are standouts, along with the instrumental opener and closer of the album.
One of my favourite David Gilmour songs, lyrics are amazing with a truly beautiful, emotionally charged solo. David never misses. The backing vocalist is Bryan Chambers, mainly known for singing house music but his voice sits perfectly with the other singers and on this song he's just brilliant. Another one to check out from Pompeii is On an Island and from his Live in Gdansk performance, Echoes.
Echoes should only be heard on the LP , Live version is no way near the LP version . Im ashamed as a lifetime Floyd fan since i was 10 in 1972 , my dad bought me Meddle its not my fav LP but Echoes is my fav track of Floyd
David's latest is "Between Two Points", it is done with his daughter Romany. It is on his YT channel and it would not let me post the link here. Worth a listen IMO!
@@killbimu I wish you luck as he is doing 6 nights Albert Hall & tickets prices are crazy as I think be the last time he performs live! Hollywood Bowl & Maddison square gardens I think been confirmed for US.Hope you get to see him.Great reaction video as always 👌🍀👍
Hey buddy, thanks so much! You made my day :-) It's awesome, isn't it? That solo is one of my favorites of his, you can hear the guitar crying, expressing all the hurt in the song. The other songs in my comment are amazing as well, and there's a lot more. David just has that magic touch, with or without Pink Floyd. He was 70 when he played this, now he's 78 and he's about to go on tour again. I'm curious to see if he's still got it. P.S. The Pompeii version of Comfortably Numb is going to blow you away :-)
Thanks again for your comment and suggestions! Your comment made me innovate my reactions more and I think showing comments on screen is going to be more of a norm around here because I LOVED editing it end! Thanks again and I sure hope to see more recommendations and comments from you! I’ll also be sure to check out the Pompeii version of comfortably numb🤙
@@killbimu My absolute pleasure, and thank you again. It's a great touch to put the comment on the screen, it shows that you really appreciate your commenters, and the appreciation is mutual. My favorite Gilmour concert is actually 'Remember That Night', recorded at the Royal Albert Hall in 2006 as part of the On An Island tour. That concert is a masterpiece from start to finish. Your Floyd journey has only just begun, and I'll be watching every minute of it!
@@ianfortier5534 Glad I'm not the only one. Gdansk has received more attention over the years, probably because it was Richard's last concert, but it was never intended to be the main recording of the 2006 tour. Remember That Night is better quality overall in terms of performance, sound and lighting, especially for songs like 'Fat Old Sun', 'The Blue', and 'Then I Close My Eyes'. I also prefer the RTN version of Echoes over Gdansk, it's played a little bit tighter and it looks and sounds (even) more spectacular.
@@Pulsar77 Thirded on Remember That Night. Great concert DVD, and a special place in my heart as I was at the Royal Albert Hall when it was recorded. One of my biggest regrets ever is that due to the half time break lasting longer than the 20 minutes it was supposed to last (it was more like 45 minutes), we had to leave before the end otherwise our car would have been locked in the car park and we'd have had no way of getting home. So yep, we left mere moments before David Bowie took to the stage. Absolutely gutted to have missed the performance of Comfortably Numb from that one. (Luckily for me, I went to the concerts at the RAH in 2015 and 2016 too and saw it there, albeit obviously without Mr. Bowie!) While the version of Echoes at Gdansk has great sentimental value as it was the last time it was ever played, I think that musically the version on RTN was better. Same goes for the instrumental piece, Then I Close My Eyes. I find that on Gdansk, that one just doesn't sound right at all. It sounds like a bunch of musicians all playing a different song, while on RTN it really ties together nicely.
If you think you've seen the best, you're wrong. Comfortably numb is the tip of the iceberg. As a Pink Floyd fan I recommend that you react to High Hopes, A great day fron freedom, fat old sun and of course Comfortably numb from the Live In Gdansk concert, you will be surprised...
You have been Gilmourized again if he lyrics don't get you the solo will way to go David. Enjoyed your reaction. If you have seen this the 1079 Pompeii is worth
You know, when I typed it I felt like something was wrong in the editing room. I had two sources both say Penny but I swear on another video I put Polly. I will make sure not to make that mistake again! Thanks for the heads up!
You definitely need to watch "Pink Floyd: The Wall" movie, if not for reaction video, then for yourself🙌 (Hello from Belarus and sorry for my shitty english🤐)
As far as I can see, no one has yet given you the name of the other guy singing. His name is Bryan Chambers. Great voice, although his style of music (away from this concert) is not for me.
That solo......this is the first and only time that I heard a guitar scream in emotional pain. Beautiful.

His new album is out September 6th here in the UK my nuts are tingling cannot wait 👌👌👌
I'm flying to Rome in a month to see him live at the Circus Maximus. My nuts aren't the only thing tingling.
I've got my copy of the white vinyl. Great record but I expect nothing less from the amazing Gilmour. Cheers from Nova Scotia , Canada
From this same concert faces of stone… and rattle that lock!!!!! I guarantee you will love them!!
