Wow, what a reaction! Look at the discussion this song provoked, such power in Gilmour's music. Even he doesn't know how many hearts he has touched with his music, but such a gift, imagine being able to touch so many by creating art that is both beautiful and truthful. The man bends a few strings and sings a few words and people weep for joy and cry in sorrow, all at the same time. Even when he makes us cry, we only want more. That's the way it's been for me and legions of fans for decades, and it makes me so happy to see people discovering this music for the firs time, knowing it will go on and on.
The emotion you are showing at the beauty of this music is perfectly understandable. Now imagine still having those emotions after 50 years of listening to them.
Thanks for sharing - David has the rare gift to connect his instrument to your heart. The first time I heard that song, I just returned back home from hospital where my dad was in his last hours. Turned on the TV and for some reason Live at Pompeii was aired. I knew already the old Floyd live at Pompeii and thought wow he returned back. Did not expect that kind of performance. The first note of the solo, my tears start falling and every time since. The next morning I returned to see my dad and told him about that song and performance (he was a passionate musician) and the emotions it did evoke in me. I told him not to be scared to leave and it might be time to stop suffering all the pain - the next night he passed away.
@@paulkantor457 I'm going to go one step more. This solo, this show, is better than Comfortably Numb, for me. Maybe it's the context of the song's meaning, his age, the setting in Pompeii, I actually don't know or care to even try to figure it out. But I've seen and listened to this probably 30 or 40 times so far and the tears fall out so easily. This is absolutely his best solo. Until he tops it next time!
The simplicity af the artwork in the video makes it more powerful, the haunting melody makes the emotions stronger ,the vocals make it human and the guitar makes you feel the suffering. This song should be played to all the worlds leaders ,maybe then they can understand the preciousness of life. Another genious masterpiece. Thank you David.
So happy you reacted to this song, it's one of my favourite David Gilmour songs. So emotional and what a solo, he makes his guitar cry. Watching you watch this made me tear up. Love your reactions, such a lovely couple 🤗🎶
What an incredibly beautiful song and performance. The lyrics and vocals are amazing, but David's solo is out of this world. The way he can make you feel such emotion without saying a simple word... Thanks for this amazing reaction!
David's solo here is a full, satisfying round trip for the emotions. Mankind is capable of creating such beautiful music. One of man's greatest achievements is MUSIC! Love your reactions!
I’m a veteran Vietnam combat infantry platoon commander…this song and solo hits right at home! Astonishingly beautiful and brutally angry at the same time. God saw me through it. And Gilmour blesses me with this magnificent piece of music. Gilmour and I are exactly the same age. We grew up together half way around the world from one another. Thank you Jesus for bringing us both up this far. :-)
The lyrics share the story of a father trying to help a son, home from war, overcome the horrible things he saw and did. Powerful and painful. "God help my son. What has he done?"
I'd heard that it was a mother, and her son was suffering from ptsd. The son eventually killed himself because he couldn't deal with what he'd done and saw. There is an interview with David and Polly about this somewhere out there.
@@deanadewall8400 Interesting. David sings it as a father. I hear it as a father. That is the beauty of a well told story. Everyone gets out of it what they need.
I was in tears listening to this very powerful and emotional and incredibly beautiful song when that backup singer joined in and then the maestro David gilmore started to play a solo I just lost it that was phenomenal the futility of war will we ever learn I would like to think so its going to have to change dramatically the ultimate power has to be with the people not and I repeat not with politicians and more over greedy businessmen great reaction from you two beautiful people don't ever be sorry for showing your emotions its heartwarming and honest
Only a few are able to transform feelings into guitar sounds. David can do it. You can hear the unspeakable pain. An incredibly poignant masterpiece in an equally incredible live performance. Goose bumps....
Gods yes, that opening note of the solo, it just PIERCES YOUR HEART like a bullet from a rifle. This is BY FAR the best of Gilmour's solo work, the absolute pinnacle of his prowess, and EASILY the equal to anything he ever did with Pink Floyd.
sadly I dont think many of us will ever watch him live again...i saw him in 1987 in new zealand and I sooo wish I could see him again...great reaction guys!!
I was talking with a musician some years ago about David Gilmore's guitar solos. After we both tried to best describe them, he said that every note Gilmore played was the exact one you wanted to hear, even though you didn't know it yourself.
This solo. The fact they used that imagery for the video is amazing. It was created to mimic the feeling of the close combat operations, and having lived it- it is perfect.
Great reaction you two. This is another song that really hits u hard with emotion. The scream of David's guitar at the beginning of the solo, hits me so hard every time.
i knew you'd love this song. thanks so much for reacting to it. my next suggestion is 'Great Day For Freedom', from the Gdansk concert. if a patreon agrees, please suggest it.
Another great reaction, and so appropriate your comments and emotions are. Polly did write the lyrics and has done so on many of David's solo albums, but it must be said that it comes quite easily to her because the words are just below the surface of the music that David has written and played to her. It's almost time for you two to witness 'Echoes" from the Gdansk concert. Cheers!
Just LOVE your reactions, and specially from David Gilmour and Pink Floyd, because it´s just relates to me so much. I have been in war, as in a peace keep mission, and it breaks my heart to just try to understand what WARS are all about.... Thank you so much, once again.
I live next to a Woman as a teenager escaped Czechoslovakia the day Russia invaded 1968. She met her husband, a Jewish man, who escaped Nazi Germany the day his village was being overrun. They are not shy talking about their past. I can listen to them for days.
