    As a combat vet and full-time wheelchair user, I have both the SD and LE models. I've done familiarization and contingency training with members of local law enforcement, and I will say this is a great self-defense platform. I chose to go LTL because of the neuro-degenerative losses to my wrist strength and muscular control of my arms and hands, counting on the lighter weight and lack of recoil to keep from causing a lethal fumble that would be a constant concern with a firearm. In a tactical scenario, as someone who is the personalization of a high-vulnerability soft target, I am very grateful something like this is available.

      POWER ????? LOL !!! get you a umarex hdp.50 and mod it , or trade that in fast and get you a pistelle x-68 , thats real power !!! you could have bought 2 real firearms for what you paid for that toy !

      @@rick31869one is lethal and the other is less lethal. If anyone wanted a weapon that was lethal then obviously they wouldn't be purchasing one of these. These are for people who want to defend themselves and get away from the situation, or stop the threat without legal issues that may also involve a lot of money and possible time behind bars. Also not every defense situation calls for killing someone. There are also people like myself who refuse to own a firearm.

    Just a note: You can also charge the launcher and fire the initial round by disengaging the safety, then pulling the trigger.

    • @theshepherdspromise
      @theshepherdspromise 24 дні тому +1

      True. It is a bit stiffer pull on first squeeze and a delay, so keeping a good sight picture throughout the first engagement of a new cartridge is critical.

    Nice size and ergonomics. Byrna makes a solid product. Unfortunately some in the Less Lethal community fail to recognize that Byrna launchers fill the most important niche, the non-lethal space.

    • @LonestarLTLdefense-d8f
      @LonestarLTLdefense-d8f  2 місяці тому +3

      Totally agree! Byrna really does a great job of offering an effective non-lethal option. It's a shame that some in the less-lethal community overlook the value of tools like these, especially when they can play such an important role in personal safety without the same risks as more lethal alternatives. Have you had a chance to try out any of the older models? I’m curious to hear how they compare! Being new to the community, I appreciate your reply!

      @@LonestarLTLdefense-d8f I haven't used the Byrna SD or LE. I do have launchers that shoot with similar power though if tuned that way. I think the SD has some potential advantages because of the size. If I were to use chemical only I think the SD would be the way to go. The LE kinetic hits will be better so it's still got a lot going for it.

      @@Blackandwhitecat-u9v I agree that they should invest in development of a higher power version. The LE didn't meet the needs of the Gavle crowd. I like the Byrna SD and LE for what they are as low power options for those situations that don't warrant much Gavle level power.

    Byrna LE is still imo the beat LL launcher you can get. The only launcher that can fire a round while gassing it. I've had my LE which I made a compact for 2 yrs. My LE now takes 8g because I made it compact. Me sd takes 12g with the added Mercy less lethal 12g chamber. I usually keep aluminum rounds mixed with duke pepper

    you could have bought 5 umarex hdp's or hdr.68's ,for same money , just minimum modding , you would have far better defense tools ! lol . the internals remind me of crosman 357's or crosman 1077's lol , these things have bare minimum power and no chance to upgrade them to much more than they put out now .
    if it doesnt shoot through a tin can , it probably wont help you in a real situation against a perp . ! there are 4 categories that are in our community , NON-LETHAL , LESS THAN LETHAL , LESS LETHAL , LETHAL . BYRNA'S ARE DEF IN THE NON -LETHAL CATEGORY !!! I PREFER THE BOLT AND FIRING PIN SET UP , SO MUCH ROOM TO UPGRADE ! HAVE YOU RESEARCHED THE PISTELLE X-68 YET BRO ?
    JUST HOPE THE PERP YOU FACE IF IT EVER HAPPENS IS ALSO CARRYING JUST A BYRNA LOL !!!!
    FOOD FOR THOUGHT BRO !!!! JUST PERSONAL PREFERENCE , HEY WE CAN ALL AGREE TO DIS-AGREE RIGHT ? LOL !
    AS FAR FOR LOOKS , I HAVE ALWAYS SAID THE BYRNA IS THE PRETTIEST NON -LETHAL OUT THERE , BUT WHEN YOUR LIFE IS MAYBE ON THE LINE , LOOKS ALONE WONT HELP YOU , YOU NEED DEPENDABLE AND RELIABLE POWER !!! ..... PEOPLE SOMETIMES HAVE THE WRONG IMPRESSION OF ME , I DONT ADVOCATE IN TURNING LESS LETHALS INTO LETHAL PRODUCTS . I AS OF TODAY STILL PREFER TO KEEP IT USING 12 GRAM CO2 .
    IMAGINE HAVING TO OPEN OR CONCEAL CARRY A LESS LETHAL HOOK TO A REMOTE LINE TO A HPA TANK OR A BACK PACK LOL . PLUS USING HIGHER POWER HPA SYSTEMS CAN MAKE A LESS LETHAL , MORE LETHAL , WHICH WILL GET YOU IN A LOT OF TROUBLE IN A COURT OF LAW IF YOU EVER USE IT IN THE WRONG WAY , AND POSSIBLY IN A JUSTIFIED WAY ALSO .
    i personally hate the way byrna gives such false confidence to the public , i feel sorry for the many people who have spent real firearm prices to get basically just a over hyped , very over priced paintball gun/toy .
    to me , shooting someone who is out to harm you or rob you will just make that person more madder and the ending outcome will be worst because they will only become more violent and upset and it will be a lot worst for the victim in the end .
    i am not saying you need a lethal hundred joules , but closer to 25 joules minimum to be more effective .
    the gavel , intrubuster or pistelle x-68 are close to the same price as the byrna , but you have something with lil over 35 joules and a way more effective solution to stopping a bad guy if the need to ever arises !!!!
    in any case i wish you no harm friend , and wish you great success into your less lethal ventures !!!!

      Thanks for the in-depth technical analysis. I am a combat veteran, and I have a friend who is current law enforcement. We set up trimmings from a deer carcass to test penetration on both the SD and the LE, and even with half of the CO2 capacity used, we were consistently seeing the projectiles pierce through subcutaneous fat and only stop when it made contact with muscle tissue, even after being fractured by a ricochet off the head of the screw holding the organic target in place. Plenty of power and consistency if you put in the time to go through familiarization and technical and tactical proficiency. Lock the CO2 cartridge in properly, use proper sighting and firing principles, and it will be fine for what it is intended for.
