As a combat vet and full-time wheelchair user, I have both the SD and LE models. I've done familiarization and contingency training with members of local law enforcement, and I will say this is a great self-defense platform. I chose to go LTL because of the neuro-degenerative losses to my wrist strength and muscular control of my arms and hands, counting on the lighter weight and lack of recoil to keep from causing a lethal fumble that would be a constant concern with a firearm. In a tactical scenario, as someone who is the personalization of a high-vulnerability soft target, I am very grateful something like this is available.

True. It is a bit stiffer pull on first squeeze and a delay, so keeping a good sight picture throughout the first engagement of a new cartridge is critical.
Nice size and ergonomics. Byrna makes a solid product. Unfortunately some in the Less Lethal community fail to recognize that Byrna launchers fill the most important niche, the non-lethal space.
Totally agree! Byrna really does a great job of offering an effective non-lethal option. It's a shame that some in the less-lethal community overlook the value of tools like these, especially when they can play such an important role in personal safety without the same risks as more lethal alternatives. Have you had a chance to try out any of the older models? I’m curious to hear how they compare! Being new to the community, I appreciate your reply!
@@LonestarLTLdefense-d8f I haven't used the Byrna SD or LE. I do have launchers that shoot with similar power though if tuned that way. I think the SD has some potential advantages because of the size. If I were to use chemical only I think the SD would be the way to go. The LE kinetic hits will be better so it's still got a lot going for it.
@@Blackandwhitecat-u9v I agree that they should invest in development of a higher power version. The LE didn't meet the needs of the Gavle crowd. I like the Byrna SD and LE for what they are as low power options for those situations that don't warrant much Gavle level power.
Do not use comical rounds in the 7 round mag bro stick to your 5 round mag the spring is to strong for pepper in the 7 trust me you wont like pepper breaking in your mag

Thanks for the comment. I am in full agreement with you. The byrna Le quick piercing technology is far superior and most efficient in a defensive situation.

Thanks for the in-depth technical analysis. I am a combat veteran, and I have a friend who is current law enforcement. We set up trimmings from a deer carcass to test penetration on both the SD and the LE, and even with half of the CO2 capacity used, we were consistently seeing the projectiles pierce through subcutaneous fat and only stop when it made contact with muscle tissue, even after being fractured by a ricochet off the head of the screw holding the organic target in place. Plenty of power and consistency if you put in the time to go through familiarization and technical and tactical proficiency. Lock the CO2 cartridge in properly, use proper sighting and firing principles, and it will be fine for what it is intended for.

Just a note: You can also charge the launcher and fire the initial round by disengaging the safety, then pulling the trigger.

Dang i dunno about the all black, i got the bright orange one just so IF IF IF i need to use it, a cop wont think its a real fire arm...
Exactly 👍
I got one of those in NYC because we're not allowed to have a real firearm. It's fantastic
We’re you able to order online living in NY or did you have to go to a dealer
Just ordered one.
I'm pretty sure it will pierce the CO2 cartridge while you first your first shot, even if the cylinder is not pressurized.
@jameslooker4791 it will, however, I've had issues where the pressure was so low a it was ineffective.
