I took one to the side of the ribs at 10-12 feet when I walked between the trap target in the garage and my son shooting from around the corner. My fault completely as he had ear protection on and I had headphones on. It hurt like hell and completely took the air out of my lungs. We laugh about it now, but at the time I was really hurting. It took four days for the swelling to go down and two weeks for the bruising to subside.

I live in California, and we cannot carry a firearm without a permit. And getting one is almost impossible. This is a great alternative to carry in my car or a large event just in case. Like he said, if you use a firearm on someone get ready for lawsuits. I know a few people that shot at intruders and they ended up paying a lot of money to the victims. It's ridiculous, but that is how things are now. I'd rather subdue the person so I can get away.

I agree with your video but I do want to expand on the fact that there are use cases where it's very useful to have non-lethal options around. In most states, it is illegal to store a firearm without locking it up in a gun safe with the magazine outside of the gun. If someone breaks into your house in the middle of the night, you're trying to wake up, all the while going to your gun safe, unlock it, load the magazine and then go. This doesn't take that much time but every second counts. With a non-lethal guns, you can have it loaded and on your nightstand no problem. With the Byrna specifically, the CO2 won't be punctured until you need it, so you know you'll have fresh CO2. The other point is that ammunition for non-lethal can be a bit more creative. Loading the magazine up with alternating pepper balls, riot rounds, or kinetic rounds mean that you can fill up an area with pepper powder and being able to inflict some damage to someone. This is super useful and will deter the usual robbers. Of course, if someone is targeting you specifically with a gun, there's not much you can do even if you own a real gun anyhow.

Well done & well said/covered. Like you mentioned, there are always going to be pros & cons. Always going to be people who speak well of this or who don't speak highly about it. The key, word(s), is OPTIONS. Most who buy this will not be trained Law Enforcement Officers or trained. That's okay! The goal? Not having to use deadly force or an actual firearm that shoots actual live rounds or bullets that KILL. For what it's worth, I believe there is a reason most police carry BOTH their service weapon AND a taser. It is nice to have at least something (especially for home or personal defence) versus nothing. 🙏🏻🙌🏻 Thanks everyone here for all your comments! I’ve had two Byrna launchers and about a dozen Umarex.
The Byrna for one is very over priced
My two Byrnas broke under normal conditions. The issue is they are almost impossible for the average person to fix
For the high end price. They should not break that easily. There are many other reasons I would choose Umerex. So I don’t want to bash Byrna. I’ll stick to reasons I’d choose Umarex
All Umarex launchers are very affordable ~$80- $250 depending on model
Umarex launchers quality is outstanding compared to Byrna. And very easy to fix at your kitchen table. There’s also a great community of guys who work on them to help you out
Umarex launchers are highly modifiable and if one chooses to have something with much greater power capability (meaning a lot more Joules) Umarex is the way to go
Even with high Joules, the way Umarex fires projectiles, one can still shoot pepperballs without them breaking.
Many Umarex models have the option to shoot many different types of projectiles. Not just round balls or pepperballs. There are literally dozens of different options and more coming out each week.
Umarex are meant to be shot so one can get a lot of training in as well

@@megamorph77 the metal parts are MIM.(metal inject molded) and I pulled the trigger with normal force to puncture the Co2. And it just sapped in half.
I could not believe it. It got me to thinking if I needed it in a real self defense situation I’d be in big trouble. I do like the concept. But I feel the quality needs to improve. Especially for the price. I know people want the power of the LE. But Even the LE is not as powerful as my modified Umarex markers. I think though with the right Chemical rounds it could be great. If I were to purchase another one. I’d probably just get the least expensive EP and use it for chemical rounds. But after modifying TCP’s, HDR’s and HDP’s. There’s no comparison when it comes to power. My other Byrna kept dropping the round that was supposed to be held in the chamber

There are more powerful launchers (off the shelf), and inexpensive models that can be easily modified for much greater power, BUT, they are more bulky. The one exception is the Umarex HDP50, but it is limited to certain amo due to feeding problems. I do have a licensed gun strictly to go the range and for home protection. Due to the Castle Doctrine, you have a FAR BETTER chance of NOT getting into trouble. But I still need to make sure I ABSOLUTLY had to use lethal force to save my life. It not yes, I can have a problem. Outside, so many things can happen to cause you to use unlawful lethal force. One thing I will say, if you use lethal force outside of your home, you better make absolutely sure the "bad guy" left you absolutely no choice.

I wonder the most about this NL is why not just carry an OC spray over this? Some OC spray has a very long range of fire and is proven to work very well against attackers.

Never seen a Byrna pepper round discharge it's gas on a person. They always bounce off. So really it's all about the kinetic energy, and don't bother with the more expensive pepper rounds.

I own a 9mm pistol, but I never carry it, even though I live in New Hampshire and can legally open or concealed carry. The thought of dealing with the aftermath of a self defense shooting, chills me more than the concern I have for my personal safety. Enter Byrna. Problem solved.

I live in the Police State of New Jersey. I have a permit for guns in my home, so I got that covered. Cant get a CCW in N.J unless you have connections, are a cop, or Judge. So I carry my BYRNA LE with 2 mags....loaded like the gentlemen did in this video....pepper, max tear gas/pepper, and kinetc rounds. I also carry a blade as a backup and last resort. All I need is enough time to get to safety in the event of an attack. Funny thing is, I couldn't even get mine shipped to N.J and ended up picking one up in tbe beautiful state of Ohio while out there on business! 😂

It is not leagal to Cary or own if you have a felony in the state of Nebraska. statue 28-1201 Definition Firearm means any weapon which is designed to or may readily be converted to expel any projectile by the action of an explosive or frame or receiver of any such weapon:
    Frame means barrel.
Receiver, I think, means the clip or maybe trigger, that I'm not sure.

    • @Filo_Tactics

im a gun guy and i own a byrna, wanted to clear up some things in your comment, its not classified as a firearm because quote "to expel any projectile by the action of an explosive" its powered by co2 its not an explosive, a frame is the lower part of the gun the grip and everything associated with the lower parts of the gun and a receiver is the top half of the gun which houses a bullet and has the action to fire the round, byrna is not explosive powered to propel a projectile it doesnt have a frame or a receiver because it cannot be easily taken apart, it dose not have the same functions as a firearm

@Filo_Tactics I am just putting out there what the state patrol captain at Nprth Platte nebraska told me. I would love for it to be ok. As a woman who travels the interstate to see my grad children play sports, who is married to a felon. I want one. But I can't put my husband in that situation. I know nothing about firearms, so I'm trusting the guy who can potentially arrest him.

I built a high pressure, hand held cannon identical to the weapon used in no country for old men. It makes anything I put in it perfectly lethal. No registration necessary. Same with my slam fire 12 gauges. They can come take my firearms but I'll still be defending my home, neighbors, and country. God bless

  • @oneeyedman99

You absolutely could get killed with one of these if you're holding one when the police bust into your house, or if you have one in your car when they pull you over. If they don't know of you having a weapon they will be incredibly patient and deferential when they come in, but if they think you've got a gun you have to be incredibly careful. From the moment a cop yells "gun", there's about an 80% chance that you will be dead within a minute.

instead of buying a byrna people , spend the same money a byrna cost and get you not 1 but 2 umarex less lethal pistols . buy you a UMAREX HDP.50 and a UMAREX HDR.68. now you have about 300 bucks left over , so put that extra money into buying you a (2 piece steel tuning barrel , maybe even the sniper extension barrel piece , and a" modded for power " valve firing pin ) for both , make sure its from HOME DEFENCE -24 , they are the best . you will still have some money left over so get you some ammo for both !!! lol ...
there are other people like you praising byrna and selling the public a false pipe dream .
using a over priced toy like the byrna paintball gun will get you really hurt bad if a real situation ever arises where you have to use it to defend yourself .
whats the joules rating on your byrna , what 10 , 11 joules maybe , you would be better off using a hunting magnum wrist rocket slingshot pushing closer to 20 or more joules LOL LMMFAO !!!
now with the 2 umarex less lethals i mentioned earlier , if done right you can expect 30 to 42 plus joules from your modded umarex pistols .
i would love to see you voluntarily letting your wife shoot you with a done right modded umarex hdp.50 or hdr.68 and see if you are still recommending the over priced ,lower powered byrnas . !!!
hell even if you only pull out the valve blocks out of right out of the box umarexs , you will be looking at about 20 plus joules which is already double that of the byrna !!!
just a quick note , the modded hdp's and hdr's i am talking about use only 12 gram co2 powerlets .
imagine spending the money you could have bought a real firearm with only to have a toy paintball pistol that will only make the perps extremely more angry if you shoot them with it in a self defense situation ???
anything under 20 joules will not be very effective bro , please quit misleading people , sell the byrna and get you some umarex less lethal launchers !!!
