I think the value of these comes from the element of surprise. A kinetic impact projectile to a sensitive body part will give someone a moment of pause to decide whether they really want to continue and risk being shot at closer range in the head, groin, etc. For some that's all it will take to change their mind. Combine that with a chemical round and it can be very effective.
Absolutely. Also these things are nice and loud, which should should disorient them more. Criminals wants easy marks, they don’t want to get pelted with projectiles and peppers balls. It’s surprising there isn’t a larger market for less lethal launchers in general.
I use my Glock 9mm as backup. But statistically most situations won’t need to elevate to that level of force. It’s legally-wise to use only the amount of force needed.
Amazing story. My husband just ordered one for me. We live in Downtown Los Angeles. I'm an ER Doctor and work the night shift in an unrepresented part of town (by choice). As dedicated as I am to serve, it has its risks. My hospital's staff parking is two and half blocks from the rear entrance. The first 50 yards of which, are down a dark alley. If a security guard is available, he'll walk us to the corner. I can't carry a fire arm into the hospital, but having this will let my husband sleep again at night.
@@BillyBob-op6lg I know myself. I can't take a life. Any perp would take my gun from me. I'm honestly safer without one. I have no issue at all with deploying a taser or lighting an attacker up with Byrna pepper balls.

I just bought an S&W micro compact 9mm pistol for less than the price of the Byrna Kinetic. The Byrna would be less lethal. appears to not be classified as a firearm (yet) and likely would present fewer legal problems is used, but I can’t justify the cost.
funny you complain about the cost of a couple hundred bucks. Try paying the cost of attorney fees, time consuming court appearances, and a lengthy prison sentence lol. But oh yeah, you wanted to save a couple hundred bucks lol.
I saw your ad on YT and got curious with this non lethal weapon then I watched this video of the guy describing himself actually using it. I was impressed. I live in Indiana and my family has a lot of the real ones. But I’m a woman and this Byrna appeals to me more because the person can actually live to tell about his unfortunate face to face confrontation with the Byrna. I asked my millennial son what he thought of it he said it’s very impressive. I still want to see more videos of it being used before deciding to own one.
Just get one! I carry mine everywhere. I mix kinetic balls with pepper balls. You can carry it anywhere because it is not federally regulated firearm. In California I had to take the burn a security guard class to be able to buy the pepper balls

God job gad you are safe to sound and your sister safe to sound glad you had that gun to protect your self against homeless people out of control this country
A shot to face with a less-than-lethal weapon is still deadly force so whats the point? Its a glorified paintball gun with 5 rounds that people are relying on to save their life. smh
Glad all ended well but had the bad guy had a real gun it could have ended entirely different . I'm sure the Kinetic has its uses but I still like to tip my odds in my favor whenever possible with something with a bit more kinetic energy.
If he had a gun, he already would have used it instead of pushing on the door. I get it...but some folks just don't want to deal with the legal aftermath of killing someone.
I understand and I would feel the same way if I could legally carry. The byrna is too expensive but I do carry a similar weapon.Something is better than nothing.
I understand why some people would choose this. I respect your decision to want to carry this weapon. Everyone should have the ability to defend themselves. I've just heard too many horror stories of tasers and stun guns pepper spray not having any effect. I'll carry my 9 mm.
I have the SD and the LE. Always have one in the car or in a sling bag when I ride my bike. I do wish there were more holster options for the LE though. I also like it because a lawyer isn't necessarily sold separately.
higher fps=more velocity. how bout the larger co2, is that only for more shots or does it also add more "thrust" or "burst"? i like the way the SD looks, but if the LE is substantially more effective then ill gladly sacrifice my vanity lol.
The LE is essentially like an SD with the extender for the 12 gram CO2. But, the LE is redesigned to give the longer range. You'll get up to 25 - 30 shots on a 12 gram in an LE if you're practicing.
This simply a choice, depending on the scenario. Because EVEN in my state of Texas... the end result scenario doesn't always come in our (2A supporters) favor.
I've seen people take five pepper Balls to the chest and it didn't even make their eyes water. If you got someone that's really pissed off I think the adrenal will let them overcome this. I like the old 12 gauge bean bag guns.
Attempted robbery in grocery parking lots or walking down the street or taking out garbage is VERY COMMON! Never give an assailant a chance to back off. That is their chance to fire.
Unfortunately the problem with this product is it will not be enough of a force multiplier if the threat is just slightly more motivated than this paid commercial. I will not risk my life or a member of my family to a less effective device. Secondly if it is pulled first in a defensive scenario and a real gun comes out next from the perp…guess who wins? 😮
@@davidgribble263 One has legal ramifications when pulling the trigger (THAT is a reality even in my 2A state of Texas. ) The other less lethal method allowed him to keep his family safe without legal rammifications. Its really your choice. I'm for both.

Too many varied laws plus NO Handgun into Canada. Not sure yet if I can even take the Byrna into Canada yet. Feel naked without a piece so this seems like the best alternative. Started with weapons in the Army from Vietnam to Desert storm. Been there;done that and have the scars. Never imagined that I would feel the need to own one again. But in the last ten years my attitude has changed. At 70+ plus I need something to give me that time to get away or to make him change his mind. NC is an open carry state and my cap and ball .44 cal revolver gets attention when I wear that.
I know, a guy that has this!!...He, was robbed once and had his Car almost taken at traffic light!!...Well ,now the guy owns 2 illegal Firearms with Rounds!...😃🤣😅 He, Laughs about it alot..
Other than for someone whose background won't pass the standard background test, who in their right mind would use one of these as opposed to a real firearm (or pepper spray for non-lethal encounters)?
If it stops the attack *and* keeps you from going to prison for an illegal gun, it's a win-win. Also the SD is about half the price of a real firearm, and you can legally practice with it in your own home without going to prison for illegal discharge of a firearm within city limits and without paying hundreds of dollars a month to shoot at a private range. It's no good owning a firearm if you never practice using it. It's also great for people who don't live in "castle doctrine" states or have physical disabilities that prevent them from racking the action on an automatic pistol. It's also permissible to carry in a vehicle and on premises that ban firearms and in tons and tons of other situations where ending another person's life isn't the best answer. I'm a military firearms instructor and I own plenty of guns and I'm thinking about getting one of these myself.
those pepper rounds or even worse oc cs rounds hurt like hell getting hit at close range and takes the fight right out of someone when they can't breathe without choking, coughing, gagging, and puking...and your eyeballs feel like they are on fire
I own a byrna HD with 2 7 round mags .. one kinetic one fully loaded with pepper rounds... IF you believe your in danger always shoot the pepper balls .. thats my advice
Question: So, are you having to puncture the co2 cartridge at the start of every day? Doesnt the co2 leak out over 24 hours? I am considering purchasing a BYRNA but it occured to me, having to turn the key to puncture the co2 during something dangerous might be extremely inconvenient. I know that some co2 guns puncture after the first shot, but from what I have researched online it doesn’t seem like the byrna can do this.
Handheld pepper aerosol/fogger can would have worked in this instance, at about $20 per can. Im just sayin', in case you cant afford a pepperball gun. Just be sure you get the fogger type to spray a vapor so the bad guy inhales the mist as this will drop him immediately with coughing fits. The stream spray version is useless for instant stop because it's not inhaled so much as with the fogger type. I've tested both on myself, and only the fogger type has instant knockdown. I do like the pepperball gun because you can use it at a greater distance, and you have visual deterence since it looks like a real gun, though i dont own one. Maybe someday.
Even real bullets don’t stop alot of people. How is some pepper paint balls going to work? I’m sure there are some people that it will stop but not many. Why would you take that chance?
@Black Sheep. It's better than nothing. Some people like ex-cons can't own guns. Also, some idiot areas of the country have overly restrictive gun laws.
@@mitchmiller2382 yes I agree it’s better than nothing but don’t expect it to stop someone like a gun would especially since it’s useless in an actual firearm scenario.

You gotta look after yourself. Nobody else will. Don’t be a target, don’t be a victim. Make em sorry they chose you.
Maybe after you get comfortable with it, you can look in to lethal protection.
Good job dude.. Less lethal is the way forward 110%
Yea, um, No.
@@headbanger5556 Less lethal give you the few seconds you need to get the hell away from the baddie, you’re not going to go head to head with someone with a lethal gun. Great job, always be aware, it`s only going to get worse. Constitutional carry should be every where.
Pain compliance is optional.
Destruction of tissue is non-optional.
The propper application of kinetic defense is 115gr or more, above 900 fps.
I use my Glock 9mm as backup. But statistically most situations won’t need to elevate to that level of force. It’s legally-wise to use only the amount of force needed.
Didn’t he say it peeled his cheek back. 😢

That's insane
That just sound ridiculous you need to be carrying an actual firearm
We can carry these in California? Stay safe cheers

@@BillyBob-op6lg I know myself. I can't take a life. Any perp would take my gun from me. I'm honestly safer without one. I have no issue at all with deploying a taser or lighting an attacker up with Byrna pepper balls.
Been on the fence about getting my CC training and permit. This video convinced me that the Byrna is the way to go. Will be ordering one soon.
I can't afford the price tag on a Byrna. I bought a Umarex HDR50 instead. In most us jurisdictions they're not considered firearms, so they aren't subject to most gun-free zone regulations and can be legally carried in many places where firearms are prohibited.
umarex hdp 50 kit 10 pepper rounds, 10 training rounds, under 90.00, has a slightly higher velocity fps than byrna, holds 6 shots
I bought the tr 50. Love it.
Geez darlin… I reckon you handled that better than most. Good job. I’m buying a Byrna.
I'm glad you're safe.
Never, NEVER warn a person you are going to shoot. Draw, They will kill you if you delay, and you are already out of time. Get your best sight picture as you roll down your window, to avoid deafening yourself. PRESS-PRESS-PRESS. Drive away.
What???
The warning is having the barrel in their direction ready to go.
Never, say ,”never.” Each situation is different and is fluid. Give warning when feasible, but use good judgement. Good judgement comes from good training, good decision making, and being aware of the dynamics of each situation.
Glad to hear the kinetic works. I was wondering if only the pepper spray ones are good enough
Byrna please make an extended magazine
Mercy less lethal makes them
They have a 7 round clip
absolutely amazing story.....i swear....my ears were on the edge of their seat......im watching this video because i wanted to by the Byrna HD SD or LE....wasnt sure if it woud be effective enough against possibly a drugged up attacker......but after watching a few videos and saw what damage these rounds can do....i was sold...but your story was great....1st off im happy all of you are ok...most important part......and listen....you did what you had to do......noone likes hurting another....but at the same time you have to protect you and yours.......thats a SO BE IT situation....because your sister/friend.....i cant remember lol.....should never have to live in fear....especially somewhere they have always been....30 years is a long time.....thank god you popped open the fire door just to be safe....i always go with my gut instinct......now i have no doubts....the fact that 1 kinetic round ripped the side of his face and immediately stopped a huge 6ft 2in guy is all the evidence i need......thank you for sharing your story with us

Great ending of the story. Just bought the SD for myself. Great to hear. Good luck!
I am so glad you and your family are safe. So glad your sister is safe!!! Thank you for sharing this story. I am trying to finish a planning class, and had not thought in terms of an industrial or urban defensive zone, like they urge for people in woodland interface areas. I just bought an S&W micro compact 9mm pistol for less than the price of the Byrna Kinetic. The Byrna would be less lethal. appears to not be classified as a firearm (yet) and likely would present fewer legal problems is used, but I can’t justify the cost.
Same here! U can buy the real thing that does real damage for half the cost of the byrna cannot bring myself to buy it yet.
funny you complain about the cost of a couple hundred bucks.
And I love the name. Who came up with Byrna is a genius. It sounds intimidating yet confidently disciplined.
My city just recently actually approved 200 of these to be placed in the hands of all the law enforcement it must fuck ppl up if they using it lol
Just get one! I carry mine everywhere. I mix kinetic balls with pepper balls. You can carry it anywhere because it is not federally regulated firearm. In California I had to take the burn a security guard class to be able to buy the pepper balls
I agree. When I get mine I’ll call it my Aunt Byrna.
@@bullychug9883 wow! Impressive. Can this be used then in my former city of Chicago where gun laws are so strict? My son lives there before that we live in NW Indiana when they were growing up. Thank you for sharing this. I am considering getting one and wondered if it would really stop an attacker.
Byrnas great.after much research I purchased a tr 50. More joules, greater impact, about 1/4 the price.

God job gad you are safe to sound and your sister safe to sound glad you had that gun to protect your self against homeless people out of control this country
A shot to face with a less-than-lethal weapon is still deadly force so whats the point? Its a glorified paintball gun with 5 rounds that people are relying on to save their life. smh
You are a hero! ... but unfortunately we're living in very upside down times now, when right is wrong and wrong is right!
Nice ending to the story. I would have handled it differently but good story!
GOOD FOR YOU. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE NO CHOICE.
Good man!
I understand why some people would choose this. I respect your decision to want to carry this weapon. Everyone should have the ability to defend themselves. I've just heard too many horror stories of tasers and stun guns pepper spray not having any effect. I'll carry my 9 mm.
I think a lot of people are afraid of aggressive DA's like in the McCloskey case.

I have the SD and the LE. Always have one in the car or in a sling bag when I ride my bike. I do wish there were more holster options for the LE though. I also like it because a lawyer isn't necessarily sold separately.
does the LE have any more power than SD? been killin my brain tryn to decide which one to get, any thoughts?
LE-330 fps and SD-280 fps. LE magazine is larger too.
higher fps=more velocity.
how bout the larger co2, is that only for more shots or does it also add more "thrust" or "burst"?
i like the way the SD looks, but if the LE is substantially more effective then ill gladly sacrifice my vanity lol.

That is one way to stop a fight.
The drugs make them incredibly strong. That's why it takes several cops to wrestle them.
That’s why I love my Byrna HD launcher.
I've seen people take five pepper Balls to the chest and it didn't even make their eyes water. If you got someone that's really pissed off I think the adrenal will let them overcome this. I like the old 12 gauge bean bag guns.
what about the oc / cs combo balls
Both my wife and I are CCW licensed holders. I carry a smith and Wesson 9mm and she carries a Byrna HD with both kinetic and tear gas balls in the mag
Attempted robbery in grocery parking lots or walking down the street or taking out garbage is VERY COMMON! Never give an assailant a chance to back off. That is their chance to fire.
Bad advice, always give them the opportunity to back off and keep your barrel pointed sensibly.
Please god dont go against a gun with this
Unfortunately the problem with this product is it will not be enough of a force multiplier if the threat is just slightly more motivated than this paid commercial. I will not risk my life or a member of my family to a less effective device. Secondly if it is pulled first in a defensive scenario and a real gun comes out next from the perp…guess who wins? 😮
I've seen videos where law enforcement carry both and choose depending on the situation. I would carry both, in case it escalates.
if you are quick and put 5 pepper balls in their neck and face how will the attacker see you to shoot back

I believe there is a time and a place for an actual weapon and a time and place for less lethal such as Byrna. This story is a good example. You may never know what that other person is packing. You never know that with your concealed carrying either. They key point to this is just like with any weapon. RESPONSIBILITY and TRAINING. Knowing how to properly use the launcher and when to use it.

In Canada the victim would be going to jail when the police arrive!
cops here say you’re supposed to only use lethal force, it’s cruel to use non lethal and you will get sued
