  • Sixty and Me was founded as a community for women over 60. But, of course, we have fabulous women of every age with us on this journey.
In fact, you might be surprised to know that about 20% of the women in our community are in their 70s, 80s or better!
So, in celebration of these members of our community, I wanted to dedicate today’s video to life in our 70s and beyond.
If you are in your 60s or younger, it will help you to plan for the decades ahead. If you are in your 70s or better, perhaps you can offer your younger sisters some advice. We are so happy to have you here with us!
Come join us for a cup of tea (or coffee) and a chat. And, if you enjoy the show, please tell one friend about us today. Your support means so much to me!
If you are in your 50s or 60s, what do you hope most for as you look at the decades ahead? If you are in your 70s or better, what advice would you give to us for getting more from life after 70? Let’s share some stories!

    Dearest Margaret,
Your words are pearls of wisdom that encourage me to embrace my senior years with grace. My gray hair is my crown of glory and my wrinkles are the map of my life from crying to laughing. I am living life and in three years I will turn 70 and the best is yet to be.

I recently had my 70th birthday. My husband died from Alzheimer’s that day. I’d taken care of him for 10 years while he was sick and verbally and physically abusive, and turned all the family members against me. Now I lack sufficient income, have no home, no friends, and don’t feel like there’s any hope. I had to move to a new state where I know no one, and have had to adjust to life without anyone, and live in a tiny apartment. I have to cut necessary medications in half or I can’t afford them. My husband and I made it for 49+ years of marriage, and 55 years together-since early high school. I’m grateful, but I just cannot adjust to empty loneliness and sadness. Life has turned gray. Where is hope?

Susan Stater I am 70. I still teach. You were right to move. You know, there are places that need help and pay a little. Do you like animals? Shelters love helpers. Churches need helpers. Hospitals need help. You could help a florist. Talk to yourself. Smile when you wake up. Take a walk. Yes do something you’ve never done before. God bless you.

Dearest Susan. You have gone through so much without family support. God will reward you. Connect yourself w a new church and make new friends. Look forward not backwards. There is hurt there.

Good comment about forgiveness. If this seems or is difficult just say to yourself "they didn't know what they were doing". No, they really didn't, they really did not. And neither do we.

I am turning 70 next month. I'm not planning anything special, but will quietly celebrate what I've learned in the last few years: I'm comfortable with who I am; it's my faith and not the expectations of others that dictate how I live; I try to be content and live each day as it comes. I'm far from perfect and still fight to get those last ten pounds off. (Three years ago in an effort to get healthier I went "near vegan".). But 70 does NOT frighten me. In fact I look forward with anticipation and some excitement as to what my future holds.

I will be 70 in May 2019 and I love all the ideas you have put forward. I am planning the 7 days celebration for each decade idea. Plenty of food for thought there. I will let you know what I actually did. Thank you so much Margaret - I love Sixty and Me ❤

I had my 70th in February. My son and his wife flew up from California and my daughter and her husband all took me and my husband out to dinner. They spent the whole weekend taking me places. It was wonderful!!

Seeing pictures/photos of things past makes me feel sad. I grieve the loss, so I stopped taking and looking at them. The thought of a photo journal causes a lot of stress for me. Very nice ideas though.

I found your channel by chance and I believe it was meant to be. I still have so much to learn and be thankful for. I recently turned 71 although I refuse to tell my age. 😒 I don't lie about it but for some reason I cannot bring myself to say it as openly and proudly as I should. Why is that? Do you have an answer? Most of my close friends are younger than me as we tend to have more in common than women close to my age. The few friends I have close in age have health problems and can't do much. I'm very active still, work full time (although considering retirement soon), I will be testing for black belt in martial arts this month and also I do compete in ballroom dancing. Yes, sounds crazy but I'm thinking if my body is allowing me to do all of these activities why not? I hope to inspire others to do the same. 😊. I am watching your videos and I'm taking in all the good advice I can get. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. Abi😊

I didn't enjoy turning 70, because our society doesn't appreciate older people. They mostly want us to get out of their way. And call us "hon" and "dear". Now that I'm 75, I'm starting to get used to it. It's a nothing year, but you have to make the best of things. Thanks for being there for us out here.

    • @Lori79Butterfly
      @Lori79Butterfly 3 роки тому

My mother always tells young people who call her ‘hon’ or ‘dear’ that they should respect her & that she isn’t their ‘hon’ or ‘dear’! It is patronizing & I too correct any younger person who calls me this, especially since these same young people don’t call older men this!😂
