  • 5 Ways to Live with Elegance and Grace After 60
Two of the words that I would use to describe the women in our community are elegance and grace.
I’m not using these words in a conventional sense - although many of the women in our community are elegant and graceful in terms of their style.
I’m talking about the way that my Sixty and Me sisters approach life. You are honest, passionate, and strong. You live with elegance and grace.
Today, I want to share 5 tips for living passionately after 60. I hope to find out a bit more about you as well!
Come join us for a cup of tea (or coffee) and a chat. And, if you enjoy the show, please tell one friend about us today. Your support means so much to me!
What two words would you use to describe how you are approaching life after 60? What does the word “elegance” mean to you? How about the word “grace?”
Please join the conversation and tell one other woman about Sixty and Me today. The more the merrier!

I am finally living my authentic life, even with severe RA and nearly 75. I'm a writer and also run an active rental unit. I've lived alone for 20 yrs by choice and feel grateful for every breath and movement. Recently I learned to free myself of the shoulds of motherhood that were weighing me down. It's ME time! Thanks, Margaret for helping me be a happier me and learning to make all my days count! We all count.

I am learning how to choose people who fit into my life, letting go of individuals whose values and goals are not complimentary. I am learning to take better care of my emtotional needs. Thank you Margaret.

My sister is taking care of her husband (4th stage cancer) and handicapped grown daughter. She is a working nurse as well. I am proud of her (inside) beauty and strength. Being Christian helps; having a sense of humor and supportive friends help. Also, her dog and cat. She’s got all that going, and a phone call away. God bless all of you. Happy trails.

I’m more graceful now than when I was younger, I’m 72 on the 27th of September, I feel more wiser, calmer and able to deal with situations than I did, because I meditate also read plenty of supporting quotes from books etc: I lost my husband to PSP last June I was is carer for a long time, I look at this period as moulding me as a person and I’m now moving on with grace and gratefulness for today. Everyday I live for the moment and look forward to our discussions. Thanking you again Margaret. love Deanne x

I’m definitely more relaxed and graceful in the way you describe as I am getting older. However every now and then I lose it and when I do I feel terrible and it takes me a long time to get over it. I much prefer to be a peaceful person and to keep my words under control. Thanks Margaret that was a really good message.

Hi Margaret enjoyed your “conversational “ vid. To live with more grace I am learning to respond instead of Reacting like a bulldozer. Unlike Responding, Reacting to a situation does not involve taking a pause to think before you reply with compassion; this has landed me in hot water many times before. Another thing I am trying to do is to listen twice as much as I speak. After all, my Creator gave me two ears and only one mouth! Lol!

Patience is more important than we might think. Another is acceptance for differences in others. Broad-mindedness, also.
Another couple of areas that I am working on are kindness, and generosity towards others, and trying to find ways to encourage others and to be helpful to others in little ways.

Good morning Margaret, l love this topic, Elegance and Grace, l always believe that every woman's desire is to be that elegant lady, but because of life's circumstances we are forced to be the tomboy, l am now retired after a life time of hard work and raising kids, gosh how wonderful it is to have a tea party...and dressed up, bring out the china..and enjoy your latter days,l am having a wonderful time and so can you, life is what you make it, have fun girls.

Elegance and grace is certainly my forte! So true we get back to ourselves. Not to be someone else's idea of what they want us to be or not to be.. I like a peaceful and calm life. Really for me its the only life I want and have.. Drama is just not me..I avoid drama at all cost.. I love crafts and taking care of my home and at the same time I like to go do and spend times with friends and family also. Detoxing well said Margaret! Enjoyed and have a good one! Blessings

Please continue to give us more validating and relevant articles! I love you, Margaret!

For awhile, I was just filling time, waiting for the end, especially with the pandemic raging. However, I am working hard once again to, as you say, live authentically and to take into account my needs. I have a long history of personal development and lead many workshops on relationship skills, but as I aged! I let it all go. As someone said to me recently, if you're still alive, you're still developing. I really liked this topic. Thank you.

I bought a book many years ago called "Living A Beautiful Life" by Alexandra Stoddard. One of my favorite books about living elegantly without spending lots of money. As you pointed out in a video, simple but good quality chocolate and food. Setting a table and eating with a candle and good cutlery and dishes, etc.

Grace is a very vast concept. It is difficult to define with just a few words. To me it means extending our hearts. To maybe look at things from the perspective of others when dealing with difficult situations. It means being kind to others and yourself. This is a big order and grace sometimes requires a choice to accept our own and others faults and failings even though it can be frustrating at times. It is something that requires constant working at. Margaret's comment of staying calm and composed is sound advice.
    Really enjoy your videos Margaret.

Elegance and grace are the definitive words I would like to be remembered by. Alas. I am the primary caregiver for my husband (81yrs) with dementia. It has been a very long uphill. My attempts at elegance and grace are feeling more and more like a show or mask I put on, and not really that which I am.

I loved what you had to say especially about not saying things that in past experience have brought negative situations. I really want to experience nature more by myself or with my dog away from my partner for alone time. I’m drawn to the beach and outdoors, parks, wooded areas. I live in California. I live in a culturally diverse town that has a beautiful downtown area full of art. How can you go out by yourself and feel safe. Even when walking my dog ( I use a power wheel chair. I can walk but not far) I carry pepper spray as we have been approached by dogs not on a leash and my Dachshund is small. We have been in very scary situations. I haven’t had to use the pepper spray and hope I never do. I fear for my dog but fear for myself as well. There is a large homeless community in California and many have mental health issues ( not all) and crime in California , well everywhere for that matter is pretty bad. If you have another video on this maybe you can direct me. Thank you. 🌸

I look like a fat old maid and have since I have been 55 years old. Now I am 69 and weigh 236 lbs and stand 5’3” . I feel horrible and tired of being ugly. I am serious and not fun anymore. I am into politics to much! And need to enjoy nature, people I love and enjoying life around me. U make me realize I am not balanced but chase people away by my harshness and to dogmatic about my believes. I will work on this and update it.

      Beverly Fowler
NEVER use negative words to describe yourself, you are self actulizing; making yourself actually be (blank!) , not good.
Start in your own head, you will be more attractive when you accept yourself. You Are very special, but you need to know & feel it, in your mind & heart.
I had a very good friend, a teacher, who was your size, but, she was so "pulled", together in her appearance. Her clothing was selected with the same care as if she was a size 6. Beutiful blouses, blazers; one navy & one red. Skirts with good details. I love jewellery & l bought her many brooches, cameos,
They enhance the overall look, but, time & again, the jewelry served her to meet people as they would ask her questions & so on.
You would see a very confident person, well tailored, with a cheerful smile( genuine) on her face. She took good care of her hair, went to salons to have it cut & colored. She was pale complectioned, she wore pink blush on the apples of her cheeks, pink lipstick and a little eye mascara, nothing over done.
Work on your self opinion, if you dislike yourself, you can't expect others to like you and be drawn to you.
If you need help in selecting flattering clothes, just ask for help. Same with your make-up, the department store sales ladies will show you how!
One last thing, once l saw an invitation at her parent's house for a black tie event. Are we going l asked. No. But why, l said. There aren't formal dresses in my size! I said, don't worry, I'll design one for you.
And l did, pink silk taffeta, Empire style
(This covered her little stomach), puff sleeves, and an oversized bow in back, Oscar de La Renta inspired. And we went and had a great time.
She had many young women come up to her to ask where she bought her beautiful gown, and l would smile and say, l designed it for her, and we had it custom made.
Where there is a will, there Is a way!
      Good luck, Tom
