  • 10 Things That Are Not Coming Back with Age - And 10 New Ones to Discover. Most women in our Sixty and Me community embrace change in a positive way. But these are all things that we cannot control and embracing the new you is critical to happiness and acceptance of the aging process.
Aging is a wonderful time of transformation. And with the things that are disappearing are many new wonderful things that we can embrace and discover. All this is discussed in this video with a smile and sense of humor.

When I went thru chemo for cancer, I lost my brows & lashes altogether. I was 51 at the time. They did return but they were sparse. I found using eyeliner helped a lot with the other losses. So at 63 ... having been bald & hairless ... I’m just grateful to be alive and make the best of what is left.

Yes, me too. Mine was fifteen years ago at age 43. Chemo achieved overnight menopause (first dose on the Friday, hormone test Monday... basically flatline lol). My body hair has never grown back(woohoo!). But on the debit side, if my eyebrows and lashes are going to "thin' they'll be non-existent.
But as I've always said about being a one-titted wonder, it's better than the alternative.

I just retired from healthcare at 60 on Monday and feel liberated. More than I thought I would. I’ve gone hiking in the woods for two days by myself. I just want quiet, no talking, and to be left alone. Today I wore smooth, matte black leggings to hike in and tied a long sweatshirt around my waist to hide the “rear view” from waist to knees. Ive never worn leggings out of my house before (super lumpy plus size) and just felt like being free and comfortable. It was so awesome and maybe four people saw me, but not my rear end. Lol. I went from my house to the trailhead and back, no detours, shopping, etc. When I got home, I put on a Hawaiian caftan of my dear late mother’s and loved walking around my house it that as well. I felt great in both new-to-me outfits and that’s all that mattered to me. I’m gonna rock this retirement thing. Who knows what will happen next!

Yes, I can relate. I'm in my 60's, and my hair has thinned, changed texture, and lost its color. Short is definitely the way to go. My eyebrows and eyelashes have become thinner, paler, and have all but disappeared! If it weren't for my magnifying mirror, I wouldn't be able to see how to put make-up on them. After spending a year without make-up, thanks to covid, I'm debating whether to just give up on wearing it. It always ends up in the wrinkles and under my eyes and makes me look worse than wearing none at all. I find that less is more. A lot of make-up looks terrible. Just a little looks much better. Why should my looks matter much anymore anyway? I am not trying to attract a mate or land a new job, and I have people who love me as I am. I see myself as a faded rose, my daughter as a blooming rose, and my granddaughter as a rosebud. If I want to see beauty, I'll look at her sweet, budding face. (She is my joy.) It takes some time to adjust to life changes, but I have to accept that it is now my turn to be the faded rose. That's okay.
Like Paul McCartney said, "Let it be." 😊

Wow, ur comment about ur granddaughter was so touching. My mother is in her early 70s. Imho she looks elderly, yet at the same time, not. Beauty truly is internal; it shines from the inside out. She still has great features & good skin. She still has a number of good qualities going for her, but of course, she never believes me. The worst thing is when she neglects herself. Sometimes she won't even put on moisturizer for a near-week, which really upsets me. But when she does put in the effort, she doesn't need to do much to look pretty & glowing.
Your loved ones and other good-hearted folks will never not be able to see your beauty, external beauty included. That's my perspective anyway.

Hi Margaret. This is a topic I think about a lot. It’s not fun but we just have to make the best of this aging stuff. Toenails, wrinkles, bad hair, etc. It can be depressing if I dwell on. So I watch videos, read books and remind myself I feel as good or better than I did 20 years ago. And my mind still thinks I’m 34. I enjoy your optimistic viewpoint.

The thing that has bothered me the most is my loss of muscle mass, my strength. I was always a very strong person. I moved furniture on my own, I didn't wait until my husband came home to move furniture around I painted a room in a week-end I would dig up a new flower bed, just because I felt like it. I built my own pergola's and many other garden structures. I also moved kitchen cabinetry from one wall to another. I built a kitchen island. I did so much of my own homesteading back when homesteading was not very popular. So for me the thing I miss dearly is my muscle. Now I have to call someone every time I want to change something in my house or garden. It's so sad for me.

I very much disagree about hair. I am 63 years old and while my hair is not quite as plush as it used to be, I still have plenty of it and I still get plenty of compliments on my long, wavy hair. I finally made the decision to let my gray grow in and I'm pleased that I still have more auburn/brown hairs than silver. I love the freedom of not coloring my hair anymore. But, in my opinion, a woman with long flowing hair is stunning no matter what her age.

Tip for eyebrow loss…wear some really funky eyeglasses large enough to cover them (or at least where they were!). Add a nice, flattering lip color of your choice and you’re good to go. I am about to turn 62 and still have thick, shoulder-length hair. The longer , thick hair was aging, did not go well with my face! As I get older the plan is to go shorter but I want a cool punky look, gray is fine. Use gel to spike it and then wear some artsy earrings. It all about adapting to your changing landscape but you can still look “good” doing it and have some fun expressing your own, unique personality. I’ve worked for a dr and seen many older patients, men and women over the last few years. One woman, pushing 90, always came in wearing a cute, sporty track suit, cool athletic shoes, had snowy white short hair offset beautifully with soft, pink lipstick. Stunning. Oh, and she walked with a cane but it had a floral design on it.

I have had long grey hair and short grey hair. I prefer long. Alot of my friends have long grey hair. I think its time to drop the stereo type of how long grey hair is inappropriate for older women. Have your hair the way you want it

I looked in the mirror this morning. I see a crease on the left side of my face. My husband noted it looked like I had a crease from the pillow. He is so sweet, but I don't sleep on that side,so the truth is I have a deep wrinkle sneaking in when I sleep. It is not going away. I better make a friend out of it,cause it is here to stay! I try not to take my appearance too seriously. I hope that I can keep an open mind and heart,so the shortcomings people note will be a blur. Love this video and you for sharing with each of us in the community. Wishing the best for you and all in the 60 plus community. I hope humor is something we can all keep along with comfortable shoes.🙂❤✌

Wearing your hair with a fringe. (Called bangs in the US, I think) is a good way to cover sparse eyebrows. I’ve worn my hair this way most of my life (69 years) and it still is the best look for me. I have been lucky to have had very thick dark brunette but there is a silver cast to it now and a scalp condition is making it thinner. I still wear it quite long as I feel it comforting but wonder if I should go shorter when I turn 70 in September. That is not the way to think though - no ‘ought to’s’ when you are older, just do what is right for you.

Hello Margaret my friend who brightens any dull day. With your ability to think about things from an incredibly different and brighter way. And just your
Joie de vivre. I love your shows so much and your clothing and accessories. Margaret where did you buy your magic multi coloured necklace? It reminds me of something I have seen before. I think it was for children and you actually made it yourself. The little coloured balls had little protruding piece that clicked in and joined the other pieces. This way you could make a bracelet or longer necklace or in a different colour. Can you remember?
Anyway my friend, please take very good care of yourself.
    Lots of love
    Susie,

I’ve had long hair most of my life. I pull it up with clips or ponytail holders. when I’m at home. I plan to keep my hair long.
My eyebrows aren’t thick as they once were. I’ve had them tattooed twice but my body pulls out the minerals faster than most so to keep them looking good I have to get them done about every 2-3 years. Since I choose not to spend the money on them I use eyebrow stamps or powder to draw on eyebrows.
    I have left behind the
“ friends “ that never extend invitation to do things together, the negative minded people , people that aren’t spiritually or morally strong.
At 69 I don’t have time to waste on non sense.
I’m continuing Silver Sneakers and line dance classes. I enjoy travel.

Sona Braun I use Kirkland brand because it isn’t oily or crunchy. It has a dropper and I make half inch partings longitudinally on the top of my head. I tap the dropper along the scalp and rub the solution into the part. Then make another parting working my way across to the other side of my head. Let it air dry for at least 20 minutes before I style it. At night I rinse it out with warm water, only the top, and sit with the iRestore helmet. My hair I still damp and I put in some loose curls with Bobby pins. My hair is three to four inches on top.

If she was sitting in a chair you could stand behind her and count maybe 100 hairs on her head and I wonder if I'm already headed the same way.

Once I had long, thick eyelashes. Other women would often ask why they looked so natural. Well, they’re gone. My hair is grey and thin. My skin has aged fairly well. I’m heathy and happy. I think I might have a few lash extensions, if they can just do the worst spots.

Putting socks on has become really difficult. I have to sit with one leg on the bed, put one sock on then switch to the other side. Also, I can't cut my own toenails anymore. Either I can't reach them or I can't see well enough to see where to cut. A podiatrist has to do that for me now. I can also remember never going out of the house without makeup. Now, it's been months since I bothered. I used to love playing with makeup. I planned to start using it again. I bought a new makeup case and some new stuff but I have yet to use them. I guess I feel like "what's the point".

It’s a very difficult question. There are two women right now traveling around the world at age 80. So I don’t think necessarily age is an issue. But if you know them and can ask about medical situation or how they have insurance, for example you might get to the bottom of other things that you could discuss with them.
