66 year old, here, retired. I’ve begun to rethink my wardrobe to include only clothes that are 1) comfortable, 2) good quality, and 3) elegant (even for walking the dog!) I need to dress for 3 seasons (spring/fall, winter, and summer). Having moved to a smaller space, and now that I live on a fixed income, I need to compose a wardrobe with the least number of items with which to create several outfits. Fortunately, I have a small frame that looks best in neutrals rather than bright colours. Yet knowing all of that, shopping for clothes is utterly confusing. So thank you for all your planning tips. The Pinterest boards idea is genius.
Hi Dani, I am glad you found it helpful. The best way is to chose a colour palette with a limited number of colours. In my experience that tends to help most.
Dresses make complete outfits, less space needed in the wardrobe. You can get comfy dresses eg jersey wrap for summer and knitted for winter. Add colour via nail varnish & lipstick and pattern with scarves - take up v.little space.
YES YES YES!!!!!!! I am so glad I have found you. I am sick and tired of being told: ear this, don't wear that; instead of giving me tips towards discovering what I am about. I relate to your approach so much and look forward to testing it. The difficulty for me is finding what I love at a price that suits my budget. That is the biggest challenge. Thanks for this very pertinent video. Sending you hugs from Melbourne, Australia
I love Australia! haha! Yes I think it is more about finding your style rather than following a fashion or what society says you should wear. I am glad you found it helpful
Hi Carol, thank you for your comment. Yes this is very true. Take from this what you want and need. However I have had plenty of clients who still work part time, even if it is volunteering. So I try (don't always succeed haha) to cover all angles.
Between 25% and 29% of women over 65 are in the workforce and labor participation rates have been rising. "Retirement age" in the US according to the Social Security Admin is 67.
I found out decades ago that if I wear 2 purples together, they might not go together, but if I add a third purple, they all blend. This works for all colors including blacks and whites.
Thank you for simplifying Fashion. Wear what works for you and then throw in some seasonal fashion colors. I have had to learn this lesson the hard way, and now I am cleaning out my closets to simplify my life. Thxs again
Thanks SOOOO much, Michelle! Absolute breakthrough. I'm 78 and really thought my feeling put together days were over. I created my Pinterest board, looked around, and then spent the evening going through my closet and putting together outfits that actually look great! One simple V neck black top, one pair of well made pants, and 5 rather pricey scarves collected over the years made five outfits. Other pants, tops, and scarves worked, too. Thank you for your wonderful plan.
Ah thank you for the lovely feedback. Your feeling put together days should NEVER be over unless YOU want them to be. I am so pleased you found it helpful. It sounds as if you have made some great outfits there. A stylish sacrf can really finish off an outfit nicely! A V-neck top + smart pants + beautiful scarf Sounds like you have found your retirement "uniform" :) I love the uniform idea. Yours basic outfit sounds simple, chic and elegant with a pop of interest and luxury via the scarves. Winter - add a blazer or chunky cardi for warmth Summer version - v-neck tee-shirt or s/s blouse + smart pants + light weight scarf. Thin blazer or cardi for warmth if needed.
THANK YOU Michelle!! I'm a semi retired make up artist (film and tv) and like you, I've dressed the faces of the best!! BUT...I'm SO at a loss with my changing body and face and hair!!! I can still give others advice, and do but I'm really having trouble with my look. I found this video extremely helpful!!! Expect contact!!! I'm going to give the Pinterest board a go first. LOVE your presentation! THANKS HEAPS! Love from Sydney Australia. xxx
It's almost like being teenager again, when you don't know what you're going to see in the mirror when you get up in the morning. My brown hair is going gray and drabber and thinner, my eye color changed from brown to amber/hazel, and my body fat moves around like it has a mind of its own! I don't recognize myself. The mobile body fat is the most disturbing. I'm 69 and it's still deciding where it wants to live! 😂
This video is very helpful. I’m 77, retired, volunteer and am an artist. Considering percentages of activities and coordinating it with my wardrobe is inspiring. I did have my odors done about 30 years ago, I still consider it accurate even though my hair is now grey. I have very light green eyes, I think is my best and most unique feature, and fair shin tone. My body shape is a typical 70 year old apple shape. Your suggestions will help me evaluate and pare down my wardrobe and be mindful of what I might add. Thank you for your insights.
@lindamcdermott9980 Thank you for taking the time to write and give me feedback I really appreciate it. Take your time with it and let me know how you get on. Also subscribe if you haven't done already then you will hear as soon as I post a new video. 😊
Thank you, thank you...have to admit when I clicked on this video I was expecting the same old capsule advice (every 60-something year old needs a white oxford shirt, or this or that, blah, blah, blah). I was pleasantly surprised that you are very different and I love your advice. I retired a year ago from a career where I spent a lot of time outdoors and had given up wearing nice things or doing my hair and makeup...Now I'm inspired once again to up my style. I've recently let go of all clothing that didn't fit, was in poor shape, or didn't look good on me...I'm still left with a lot and would like to pare down even further to make getting dressed everyday easier. I will follow your advice here. Heading to Pinterest now to do some "pinning".
Hi Pamela, thank you for your kind feedback. Yes I look atit in a very practical way. Take time with the pinterest board to rediscover your style. Contact me if you need my help at any point.
I came here to say this. I got an aha-moment about dividing the month, which is something I kind of do already, without analysing. I work in a Kindergarten and dress for movement, comfort and robustness at work. At home I dress a bit more stylishly. That is Scandinavian stylish, not British, which to me is more formal. After a few years most of my clothes end up as work clothes. I'm thinking of having that call consultation.
Your video is beneficial. I've noticed that since I've decided to embrace my gray hair (I love yours :-), my color palette has changed. I don't wear as much black, white, or off-white and have experimented with orange-a popular color this year-and it looks great on me! At this stage of life, it's fun to experiment with different colors and designs while maintaining my own sense of style.
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve never been able to dress “properly” and I’m now 68 😢. I’ll see if I can work out how to use Pinterest and get started. Thank you sooo much ❤
Thanks for your videos. I always hold a shirt or fabric close to my face. Some colors just do nothing or even make me look unwell. Others like certain blues, browns grey, or grey blues make my face and eyes jump out and really look naturally healthier. It's amazing how the right fabric/ shirt color really make my eyes quite striking.
Great advice thank you. I have an apple shape figure so not easy to style, and clothes and I are not friends !!!! I do want to update my wardrobe and you have shown me where to start
Hi, I’ve found as I age, the simpler the style, the better I feel in it? I also favour, quite smart basics, in solid colours too, I do not look good in swathes of material, or very busy patterns or frills. I’m petite so I try to keep it uncomplicated. 😊 it’s very easy to be swayed by what others say in your sixties, and I feel really sad about it as many of us lose our confidence too? However, if it makes you feel good? I say, wear what the hell you like! You’ve earned the right. 😊❤
Hi Susan I could not agree more! The only thing we should stop wearing as we age is other people’s judgement! It sounds as if you have some great insight there. It is best to avoid too much fuss if you are petite and solid colours work best too. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
The biggest help for many women would be to take photos of themselves in their outfits. When we see ourselves in a mirror, we can put an emotional veil of bias over what we're seeing, for good or bad, but it's different with photos. We're more likely so see how we really look, without so much bias. I would bet money that a lot of women think they look fat when they don't (that used to be me) and a lit of women think they look ooh-la-la when they look like mutton dressed as lamb. There are countless scenarios where women overestimate or underestimate how good they look in a given outfit. I can think of several fashion youtubers who don't seem to watch their own videos or they would never recommend some of the outfits that they choose to showcase - particularly in the last year, for some reason. I've unsubscribed from five different channels because they seem to have lost their minds. Just saying, take photos to see how you really look. Don't just depend on your mirror.
I agree women often think they look worse than they do. I find this incredibly sad. In fact it is the reason I started this business in the first place. I help them find their happy place again. 😊
Great video! Thanks for your way of putting the ball in my court, as it were, but also giving great tips. I had my colours done decades ago (I am 66 now) and they still work well. I figure getting compliments when I wear certain colours says something. I too am a mostly jeans & t-shirts gal, but I do have some nicer dresses and things for church, since I am the pastor's wife and also on the platform doing music often. It is fun to go into my closet and try to make up a new outfit from things I already have. My main struggle is finding cotton clothing form my hot climate that doesn't all look like I am trying to be 20 again. Most clothing for older women is polyester or something awful. So I wear out what clothes I have that I like and then pray I can find something years later that works.
@beckypeacock631 Yes I agree clothes for older women can be awful. It gets even worse when you look at the plus size ranges. Hvae you looked at sezane or Boden? You might find some nice cotton pieces there though they might be a little out of season at the moment for warmer climates. www.sezane.com/us, www.bodenusa.com/en-us.
Rather than a mix and match capsule I find having 3-5 complete outfits for each type of activity for each season is simplest. Some items crop up in more than one outfit, but they don't have to. I do still have some extra items from previous outfits which I can use for variations if I want, but if I'm going out for a meal I only have to choose between 3 outfits. If one outfit is fairly plain I can ring the changes with different accessories if I want.
I'm the same. I try to have a weeks worth of "everyday outfits" per season. I would love to make it really simple and have 7 dresses, but that is a work in progress.
Retired at 69. I got rid of most of my formal smart work clothes. Kept a few jackets. I go out a lot. Walks, exercise classes, theatre, movies, meeting friends sometims in a cafe sometimes a posh afternoon tea, parties, dancing, etc. Also living in England means weather changes all the time. So scarfs, heavy for winter and lighter for spring and autumn, cardigans, coats, raincoats, hats, gloves, boots and shoes, exercise and walking shoes warm socks, casual shoes, dressy shoes, thick tights and thin ones for outings, I love colours and i have done the colour thing and the colours that i use are spot on. I eash my clothes once a week so need clothes to last me for different outings, home wear night wear etc for a week. I also like to coordinate my underwear with my outfit so thats a whole lot of bras and knickers and vests too! Very difficult to capulise my wardrobe.
Hi Jennifer, It sounds as if you do have a capsule of sorts because you have clearly thought very carefully about what you have and need. It is great to have some colour too particularly on those dull winter days
Thank God to see a Stylist in a beret and what looks like overalls!!So different! One thing to be considered for those in their late 60s is a tight budget. I still work on a casual basis and am studying again. Tips for our cohort? I try to avoid cheap fast fashion but sometimes have to resort to it and it worries me.
I would try and limit your colours down to make it mix and match more easily. Buy preloved where possible as you will likely get better quality for a cheaper price. And take your time, to get it riht it does not happen over night. I hope that helps.
Wow you are so so encouraging ❤ I am terribly self conscious (wish I wasn’t) but I have learnt to wear what styles I like and I know colours that suit me after having style and colour analysis which helped enormously 🥳 thanks for all you do for us 60+ peeps I sew a lot which makes cost so much easier and styling thrifted goods to suit me !!!!!
@wendyb7993 Hi Wendy, Thank you for the feedback I am glad you enjoyed it. Yes it is always good if you can sew that makes buying second hand so much better!
Hi, just found you. Very good points. Im 66 just recently semi- retired. Now living in a tiny town (400 people!) Im a working artist and am looking to revamp my wardrobe. I walk the dog everyday. Very casual town. Although Im small ish, 5' 117-19 lbs. Ive worn tight jeans or bf jeans forever. Not into tight jeans anymore. My 34 yr old daughter lives with me and got a pair of very wide jeans. I'm not one to dress like my kids, but I liked it and got a pair I love.( She has no problem with this.) I had to alter the length and found a great tutorial that showed how to keep the actual jean hem. Came out perfect! I wear a striped pull over long sleeve tee. I love it! So comfortable. I'm looming for other, also wide pants and reg tees and short jackets. I know this is a young style, but I like it.
Hi Susan, I like the wide leg pants too. This is the most important thing that you go for what you like. Even with what I suggest it is important that you pick and choose what you like.
I’m 71 and retired. My wardrobe is jeans and tee shirts. And flannel shirts for an over shirt or cool weather. I have two peasant skirts with a fitted long sleeved tee and low heels for church because I’m orthodox and I dress modestly for the Divine Liturgy. I have a couple of nice tops and the rest of the time I wear jeans. I am living on SS and I’m not going to spend a lot of money on stuff I’ll never wear since I don’t go very many places except to walk.
This sounds very much like to you have a practical hold on your wardrobe which is a great start. Keep the colours to a minimum too and it'll be even easier.
This was a great video. Thank you so much. I am turning 60 this month, still working but working remotely. I have definitely ‘lost my way’ and this video was so helpful. Thank you! ❤
This is so helpful and simple. I’ve been so confused on how to do this and I have retired into a much smaller house and I have a limited closet. Space. I may be headed for retirement, but I’m not headed for sweatpants. I intend to work part time volunteer and being involved in numerous things so this is invaluable.❤
I'm eighty years and it seems my wardrobe no longer is working for me. I have always enjoyed fashion but can't find clothes that is age appropriate. Any advice? Just found your channel and the most realistic channel I've found thanks so much.
That is a shame you do not feel it is right for you anymore. I think most of the advice I give at the beginning of this video will help you. It’ll help you focus again. Have you ever used Pinterest?
@capsulecloset, thank you for great tips. For this lady who is 80, that sounds like me; this year I’ve been struggling with my body changes and health issues… then I began to really focus on accepting my body changes and concentrate on comfort clothes, my lifestyle and doing all I can to look and feel good. Changing my diet to Mediterranean style and making a habit of Walking as much as I can. I sleep better and feel so much better all around. Small changes feels great!
Yes they can make a huge difference. This kind of thing can creep up on us. I am glad you are thinking about yourself for a while. Thank you for the feedback.
Great advice. Thanks for simplifying things. I’ve got tons clothes n I can’t keep on top of it. When I need something I grab the same thing for a while before I go searching for another couple diff ones.
@@capsuleclosetstylist yes, watched your videos and I need to seriously declutter n simplify style and colours, thank u! I look at your rack of clothes on video, and I’m smh.. …Something I’m doing now is buying matching top n bottom, if that was available. Sure beats having to decide what style top goes with a bottom piece.
As a 62 year old, 5 feet 2 inches, long and slim legs and an apple shaped torso, i really struggle to do anything other than leggings and long top. I will definitely book a consultation as like most ladies, I own a lot of clothes and wear very few of them. Thank you for a really common sense approach x
Wide leg pants work great on some body types I agree. @juliequick5526 book in and I am sure I can help you 😊 calendly.com/capsuleclosetstylist/free-consultation
Great advice, thank you. The challenge for me is finding pieces that I like that fit my tall, curvy, busty, inverted triangle shape that fit. I am a Canadian wearing size 14US. It seems most clothing is designed for the much more comon pear shape. Also, companies seem to love saving fabric by doing 3/4 sleeves and 30" inseams. When I find tall sizing options they are often sold out in my size. Endless searching and coming up empty!
Hi Joanne, Thank you for your comment. The cuts on a lot of clothes are not great I agree. It can be hard to get anything when trends depict otherwise. It can make a difference if you know the styles that work for your body type. Book in for a chat with me if you need help with that.
I thought it would be another fluffy video. Glad I was wrong and clicked on it. Very informative, packed with good info. Many thanks. Approaching 60 now and have to declutter my wardrobe, but don't know where to start, Will try and apply this to my existing wardrobe and remove things, and give them away.
Hi Kimberly, Thank you for the feedback. I have addressed this several times regarding this video. In some cases I want to show the differences in colour etc. I subscribe to an images service that means I am allowed to use the images copyright safe. Unfortunately there are limited image available in some areas. However I did take this on board and applied it to videos I have made since.
Thank you for this, it was very informative and practical and I will take all of your points on board...I already looked up the colour palettes that I love! Great video!
What about wearing black?? Most clothes of mine are black and I have just added rust which I think looks pretty good with my frosted brown hair. I don’t like bright colors I don’t like pastels.
Love this. I’m a 61 yo art teacher and looking online for ideas to refresh what I have to wear. Wanting to simplify and having a capsule wardrobe is a great place to start. Thank you!
I’m a petite size in my mid 70s and I love classic styles but on the casual side. I sometimes get nice comments but I feel I buy too many odds and ends as I’m a bit of a spontaneous buyer, I’m trying to stop that. My problem area is my ankles, unfortunately they are not very slim so dresses aren’t really my friend. I’ve just discovered your channel and enjoying it so thank you.
Hi Judy, try to limit down your colours and learn which styles work for you. Then when you shop be very specific about what you buy. I am glad you found it helpful.
My god! You know so much and I appreciate that you taught us all the foundational elements before jumping into the clothes combinations themselve. Thanks!
Hello you are very welcome. Yes I have done this for a VERY long time haha. I think Henry 8th might have been on the throne when I started haha. I am glad you found it helpful
hi, very useful video...i am a 60 year old Indian woman....brownish complexion and ample hips...I live and work in Europe, and always struggle with tops - cannot decide if I should wear longish tops/ tunics that cover my butt or wear regular blouses (not crop tops)
@mohna6264 It is hard to advise you without seeing you, but usually I would say do not have a top lower than the top hip of you are bigger around the bottom. If you want to book in for a consultation with me I can chat to you about how i can help you properly. calendly.com/capsuleclosetstylist/free-consultation
Michelle… so glad I found your channel. I had my colors done 25 years ago and I’m Winter color person… black, red, white navy… but over the years and 2 relocations later, my wardrobe is all over the place… since I travel a lot for work, I’ve gone back to black, navy, red and white and fill in with some of those other colors you mention… like yellow, beige or light blue. Since I’m letting my hair grow out, certain colors wash me out but the black, navy and red don’t fail me. I’m looking forward to the Pinterest experiment… approaching 74 and still working full time, I’m thrilled at the fashion sense you extend to us ladies. Thanks so much.
Hi Rosemary, Thank you so much for the lovely feedback. Yes your colours can change as you age, if you are embracing the grey have you watched my video dedicated to that? If not check it out. ua-cam.com/video/RgDpyjkEa_Q/v-deo.html
What I wouldn’t give if I could sew! I’ve started this process of culling my wardrobe and refreshing it with only the colors and styles I truly like, I think reflect my personality, and look best on me. Thank you for this encouragement.
Hi Judi, Most of the images are definitely women over 60. The times I used younger models was when distinctly showing the audience the four main differences in colour. However, thank you for your comment I take this on board.
@capsulecloset stylist, I think she meant that they don't look like most women who are over 60. Your women were tall, slim, Brit type models with straight hair, regular features, and long limbs. Not a lot of ethnic or body-type variation. I did not see myself in them ( and I don't look my age, either, am more slim than most, but larger-boned, a busty inverted triangle, warm color tones, more a tan monotone with light eyes, curly hair, not overweight.but not model-thin. I saw no one who looked a bit like me! I don't mean to say that you should have all your models look ethnically and body-type diverse, but some variation in size, weight, skin tone, hair type, etc. might help us to relate.).
Hi Jenna, this is a very valid point thank you for adding it. Part of the issue I have is that I subscribed to a platforn to enable me to legally use images on my channel. As I make the videos for free it is too much to purchase individual images so it is a case of selecting from what is available. That said you do make a great point here so i will bear that in mind in future when selecting them. Thank you.
Such great information! I’ve not heard as good an explanation for color or body shape. I’m a definite cool skin tone with light low contrast. Thank you for helping me simplify my capsule.
Yours is the first video I have found which actually gives solid advice - thank you! I'm a 62 y.o, slim & athletic build but have no confidence and no idea what colours or styles suit me - so I live in wide legged jeans and t shirts. I have a fairly extensive wardrobe but scared to wear half of it as often feel like 'mutton dressed up as lamb' when I do, so end up changing...back into jeans! I feel bland and uninteresting. If I book in for a free consultation, what does this involve and how can you help? I live in Nowra (where most people get about in shorts and t shirts!) but often travel to Sydney, where smarter dress is necessary, even if I am just visiting. Where are you located please and is there a time zone difference? Do you consult via zoom or face to face? Thank you for any advice.
@AnnaKingston Thank you for the feedback I am glad you found it helpful. This is very common and I speak to ladies almost daily in the same position. So, the consultation is to discuss on Zoom where you need help and how I can help you. This is for 20 minutes. So most of the people I work with are in the US, Australia and Canada. I am based in the UK. Most Australians tend to book in with me in their evenings, which correlates to my morning. So I can help you in lots of different ways; I can do a colour analysis for you, identify your body shape and what styles and cuts suit you best, help you edit your wardrobe, shop for clothes for you, create outfit ideas for you based on either what you have or what I find for you, I can even help you find your style again. So it really depends on what you need most. However, if you book in for a consultation we can have a chat. calendly.com/capsuleclosetstylist/free-consultation
Thanks for this. I’m 63 and retired, greying hair, brown eyes and pale skin. I was diagnosed as a Winter over 30 years ago, and that helped but I do like bright colours! I live in dresses because anything tight round my waist is too uncomfortable although I’m pretty much a rectangle.
Hi Rosy, If those colours still work for you, choose the colours you like and leave the colours you don't. Be aware though that your palette can quite often change as yu age.
Maybe take another look at the winter palettes as there are sub-categories: True / Cool Winter, Deep Winter, Bright Winter. Rather than brights, think rich jewel colours.? Emeralds, amethyst, cerise, sapphire blue Also a True / Cool / Bright red? Use these colours in lipstick and nail varnish.
@softsophisticate Some great advice there. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. In my experience most people fall between those predefined colour categories. Also it is impossible to give advice without seeing them first.
What I like vs what flatters me are very different, and I do listen to my husband opinions because I trust and respect him and he knows me better than I know myself. I love overalls and I did wear them in my 20s but as a 66 year old 👎🏻
Hi Belinda thank you for your comment. That’s fantastic that you can get your husbands opinion! I am referring to the many people I work with who are not as lucky as you. In regards to dungarees if they are not for you that is absolutely fine. Part of the battle is knowing what works for you. In regards to what you like and what flatters you, I am positive I could find something! I’ve not failed anyone yet haha! If you get a moment check out the website too as there is lots of help there too. 🙂
I just retired after many years of factory work. I realized that 90% of my clothes were utility pants and company shirts so I’m (happily) having to start from scratch! Great video with lots of helpful tips. Thanks!
Dear Michelle, thx a lot for this encouraging tutorial❤. I'm a real minimalist... some same😄 dark blue or black shirts & white blouses who are so comfortable, jeans & a muted colours scarf with flowers💪 & snoopy socks with sneakers😂Sometimes I really like red but I'm too shy. So I tried a red scarf with flowers tone in tone... I try to take heart😄 Wishing you all the best☺️
Hi Andrea, Thank you for your lovely comments I appreciate the feedback. This sounds like you are half way there. Always do what feels right for you, but NEVER hide away with colour because of your age. 😊
I only go out 2-3 times in the spring and summer and 3-5 times in the fall and only 2 times in winter. So I only keep 2-3 outfits for weddings and special occasions and everyday clothes for summer and fall times. I didn't know had so many clothes. But i have been up dating everything because hardly anything fits anymore. But I have been upcycling so items too new looks. And jeans for garden aprons with plenty of pockets. I'm a cool tone and stick too chocolate browns, charcoal grays, black jeans and slacks, navy dress slacks ,tan pantsand just found my vneck t-shirts navy, black 1long sleeved and 1 short sleeved ,multiple coloured with blues, cream, and tan. I keep 1 black pant suit for funerals and printed blouses that matches all dress slacks. I just had too buy more clothes that fit and will go with . And yes I bought leggings that are loose fitting look slacks and hang perfectly skinning. And will only keep too handbags in cream leather and dark chocolate almost black cross body. And 2 different sneakers ,4 sandals, 4 flats. The rest will be donated. 2 winter coats in black puffer knee length and below knees, 3 different blazers,1 navy raincoat. 2 black boots.
I’m a slender petite and I won’t buy anything oversized, those styles just swamp me. I won’t buy anything really tight, either, or high in Spandex, which I hate, it gives me bulges where I don’t really have anything much to worry about. A classic fit is best, which skims and shows the shape, but doesn’t cling or squeeze. The biggest style mistake I see my fellow American women make is squeezing into clothes that are just too small, they just make them look fatter!
@@kimberlyperrotis8962 When I worked in a women's clothing store I would tell my customers that the size of a garment was just a general indication and that just because you can get into an item of clothing doesn't mean you should wear it.
I live in a very warm climate, I’m retired. I essentially wear gipsy dresses or sleeveless t-shirts with wide legged pants and sandals so I don’t need jackets, blazers, jumpers, boots ; at most a shawl, a long sleeve shirt when it gets a bit colder in winter. I liked your advice and keep it in mind when it’s time to renew some pieces. Thank you
@cordeliaadams4898 You are very welcome. That is great you do not need all those layers I wish I didn't sometimes haha. Download my capsule wardrobe guide too as that will be helpful if you are editing your wardrobe. capsuleclosetstylist.com/free/
When it comes to fashion, this old proverb is especially true: there is nothing new under the sun. I’m 64 and stick to classics I love, and trends that revive them. I like to dress Smart Casual most days, but don’t wear denim. Thanks for your video🙂
More non- slim examples throughout would be helpful. I suspect there are more of us with lumps and bumps than the models in your video. Also, having a round body, I avoid empire waists as they are too maternity- looking, even at my advanced age!
I think if you get a good bra fitting and have a thin band across and under the bust with a gentle flare that skims the tummy can work. That said if it does not feel right for you you should avoid it.
I find spring and autumn now last about 3 days in the uk, so most of my wardrobe is winter and summer with a tiny handful of of stuff for the other seasons. And by tiny handful i basically mean a trench coat 😂
I don't shop. There was a time that I did. years ago for entertainment - Hey, let's go to the mall? 😊 Of course I purchase necessities. That said, there comes a time when you have everything you need and love, as time goes by. I like your ideas!
I've had my colours done 30 years ago. The problem is, is that I can't find clothes made in my palette in the UK. It seems to be black, blue and black, I'm autumn. It's quite depressing, and frustrating.
@stephyfajardo8111 Yes so I have a colour analysis and body type service which Identifies the colours that suit you best and the styles that work for your body type best. I find that offering them together helps clients become better informed when choosing clothes. That is $199 USD. You can read more here capsuleclosetstylist.com/product/colour-analysis-and-body-type-styling/
I still love my old vibrant colors but my hair and skin color has changed and now requires a softer look. Scarves have become my go to way to add color ( to keep my heart happy). but still keep my wardrobe monochromatic .
I need help!!!! My closet is so sad, I live in Canada, where it's very cold, but I'm going to Puerto Vallarta for the winter so need linen shorts etc... but I want to look stylish, but I want to be comfortable I'm also a petite (in height) women. All linen I've found hangs off me and I look huge. I want well fitted linen shorts, dresses etc.

I find older women look best in solid color families, but use prints sparingly. I like clothing that creates a solid color palette background for interesting jewelry which sets it off, or repeats a single color, so that in effect, you become a moving art show for jewelry, an art with artisans who are little appreciated. Dressing like that is calming, easy to mix and match, and interesting. Being a "woman of pins and broaches" is a lost art worth reviving. I model my wardrobe on this idea, which I got from Meredith Viera. Solid background colors with shoes to match, with a bright shirt and earrings, bracelet, and ring or necklace, or pin, in the same bright color to set it off. Its easy to mix and match, and always looks so nice. She usually wore this as slacks and blouse, so I do too.
Hi That is great that you have found what works for you. Some prefer block colours some prefer patterns. That is the beauty of building a wardrobe that works for you. Either can work. Oh and by the way, I deleted your nasty derogatory comment in regards to my personal appearance because I do not tolerate that on my channel. @francesweldon5281 it is hard for me to say without seeing you; I would not want to give you incorrect information, but what I can say generally is that it is best to mute colours down. Hello thank you for your comment. If you look in the notes on the video you will find all the links to all the outfits and ideas I suggested so you can access them wherever you are. 😊
I struggle because my taste (northern layers) do not work well in hot, coastal Florida. I have no idea what to wear to the office here. Plus, I have feet that don’t work in 90% of women’s shoes. And I work in an environmental job that requires me to occasionally be in steel toed shoes in the field to audit contractors. (In the humid hell of Florida)
Thank ypu for the free capsule wardrobe info. So many people charge for this and when we're trying to figure out where our life is at, its hard to commit hundreds of dollars for a consult! #newsubscriber
Hello you are very welcome. I want people to feel good and also the more people that can become intentional about everything they buy and make less shopping mistakes the better it is for the environment and them! It is a win win! I can glad you found it helpful thank you for commenting.
Hi Michelle, this is my first time of viewing your channel, You say find your redeeming feature but what if you don't have any. 😊 I am only 5ft short and a curvy frame so unfortunately find it hard to get trousers, skirts and dresses that don't make me look shorter. I have always worn classic styles as most often current trends don't suit me. Have you any ideas for a 72 year old to still look current but classic style. ?
Hi Sue, I am sure you do have redeeming features! Everybody does! So if you are petite limit your colours. Wear maybe one block colour with one highlight one in accessories. The current trends are awful so I am not surprised you do not like them! Try and keep the cut of outfits so that they skim your body rather than swamp it. Have trousers cut by a tailor so they are as long as possible dependant on the shoes you wear. I hope that helps!
I used to work with a woman who had TWO pairs of pants she alternated every day. I worked with her for two years before we were talking about clothes and she told me this. I never noticed. She sat at a desk all day, and so all I really noticed was her shirts (this was a fairly warm office, so we didn't need jackets/sweaters). This taught me that a) people really don't notice what other people wear, and 2) how many different garments I want has a lot to do w with what I enjoy, not necessity. My office now is very cold, because of equipment that can't get hot. I could easily have two or three pairs of pants and six sweaters I kept in a drawer at work and swapped out every day, and no one but me would care.
Do you know the brand of the scarf at 0:46 or can you tell me the source of the photo so I can do my own research? It would fit incredibly well in my capsule. Warm greetings from Germany!
Hello, thank you for the comment. This image is from an adobe license so I am not sure of the original but I have found some similar options here liketk.it/4HGnk. I am sorry I can not be more help.
Hi, I am new to your channel and I like your content. I am about to turn 60 and am excited. I have noticed weight gain in my breasts and a little droop and I am wondering if you would recommend a brand of bra that is comfortable and gives a little lift without being a push up bra?
Hi Brenda, where are you based? I know Julie May do some great supportive bras in quite a wide range. They also cater for skin irritability and hot flushes with natural fabrics. You can use code SOCIAL15 for 15% off and you can find them here juliemay.co.uk/
Hi Brenda, your comments sound like me, I'm 62 and seem to have gone from a c to d cup of late....a friend put me on to a brand available here in AU/NZ called Fayreform, they do a 'classic style which is underworld, not push up, but is the most comfortable bra I've worn in years.....even if not available where you are I'm guessing you could buy online ...all the best
Funny thing…I saw an extra walking by Bridget Jones whose style I just loved. Based my wardrobe look on that look. Fully answered the age old question…what would this look like if I slept in it? Many of my dresses double as sleepwear.
now that Im in my late 60's and have dealt with some health issues my body type has totally changed and my clothes don't fit and I don't think I am the same style I have always had.
@marionsutcliffe1119 can you clarify I’m not sure what you mean? Your comment sounds like you are upset for some reason. I don’t think the quizzes work well no. The reason for that is because I don’t think people fit perfectly into predetermined boxes. I base that on working one on one with clients for 25 years. In regards to ‘ no one is coming to you after doing them’ I can assure you they are. Not only that but I have a full track record of five star reviews. So please can you explain?
@@capsuleclosetstylist I got confused by this statement: "If I had a pound for every person who's come to me for colour analysis [after being confused by online colour questionnaires] I'd probably be a very rich lady but I'm not." Maybe it means your colour consults are free?
Ah ok that makes sense. I just meant that a lot of peple come to me having had a colour analysis done previously elsewhere or done a quiz and it has not worked for them. I have even had ladies who have come to me who have been told to dye their hair to fit the colour palette!! I adapt mine to the individual and often swap colours around for the client. The bit about me not being rich is, if I am honest mainly down to being a single parent rather than lack of styling work or clients. 😊
never had luck trying to understand my colors, but i tend to stick to a few colors anyway much of the time.. blue, green, black, white and grey.. wish i could do this but i just buy clothes from secondhand shops anyway. maybe i will just purge everything that i don't wear anymore or doesn't look good on me. will feel better if i can just do that.
It is always good to remove what is no longer working for you. It is also better to just stick to a few colours. Take you time with it. Also take a look at my blog there is lots of infor there you might find helpful 😊 capsuleclosetstylist.com/blog/
I wear dresses as much as possible. I am not limited by color schemes because it goes with my shoes and bag. Its so much easier. I'm blonde, blue eyes, light skin. Seldom wear makeup.
I am 76 and can't find anything to wear. An apple shape 5ft 3in normally size 16. Clothes are too long or too short. I am going on a river cruise in August, it will be hot, i don't know what to wear
Hi Jennifer, I am sorry you are struggling to know what to wear. Without seeing you it is hard for me to give you concise advice, but I would advise you to stick to natural fabrics like cotton, silk and linen as they will allow your skin to breathe better in the heat. I would also try to stick to block colours. If you want to book in for a complimentary consultation with me I can see how I can help you more. The link is in the video notes. I hope that helps a little.

How refreshing, straight forward, non dictatorial this video was! I'm truly inspired!Thank you, love sue xxx

You are very welcome I’m glad you found it helpful Sue.
Hi, lots of women in their 60's are retired and only need a casual wardrobe and maybe a smart casual for going out.
@@pmclaughlin4111It depends on what year you were born.
I found this very helpful. I’m mostly retired but do work on occasion and travel a lot. I needed this ❤
Similar stats in the UK
I found out decades ago that if I wear 2 purples together, they might not go together, but if I add a third purple, they all blend. This works for all colors including blacks and whites.
Yes I agree in most cases it does work. Particularly if it is different fabrics.
Good tip
Great idea.
good for you great start
Love this idea.
Thank you for simplifying Fashion. Wear what works for you and then throw in some seasonal fashion colors. I have had to learn this lesson the hard way, and now I am cleaning out my closets to simplify my life. Thxs again
Hello You are very welcome i am glad you have found it helpful.
A V-neck top + smart pants + beautiful scarf
Sounds like you have found your retirement "uniform" :) I love the uniform idea.
Yours basic outfit sounds simple, chic and elegant with a pop of interest and luxury via the scarves.
Winter - add a blazer or chunky cardi for warmth
Summer version - v-neck tee-shirt or s/s blouse + smart pants + light weight scarf.
Love from Sydney Australia. xxx
Ah thank you for your kind words. You live in an amazing country. One of my favourites! Let me know how you get on. I would love to hear from you.
Thank you for your feedback I am glad you found it helpful
Your video is beneficial. I've noticed that since I've decided to embrace my gray hair (I love yours :-), my color palette has changed. I don't wear as much black, white, or off-white and have experimented with orange-a popular color this year-and it looks great on me! At this stage of life, it's fun to experiment with different colors and designs while maintaining my own sense of style.
Hi Kathy, Thank you for your comment. Yes I agree it is great to experiment I am glad you are enjoying that. I am also glad you found it helpful.
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve never been able to dress “properly” and I’m now 68 😢. I’ll see if I can work out how to use Pinterest and get started. Thank you sooo much ❤
@BeyondtheBreed Ah bless you. Check out this video on how to use Pinterest it might help you ua-cam.com/video/uHl553Iy5ak/v-deo.html
What a brilliant idea regarding Pinterest. I had started one but didn’t really know what I was doing or why. You have helped me focus.
Ah I am glad you have found it helpful. Spend a little bit of time over it. Do not rush the process.
@anahome3696 Yes it can make a huge difference.
Great advice thank you. I have an apple shape figure so not easy to style, and clothes and I are not friends !!!! I do want to update my wardrobe and you have shown me where to start
Perfect I am glad you have found it helpful. Try empire lines and wearing block colours.
@@capsuleclosetstylist hi, so happy you did! Thank you. ☺️🖐🏻🤍
you are welcome
Thanks
@beckypeacock631 You are welcome
I would first go to my own wardrobe and see what I love from that. I’ve already bought it and probably like it .
@maureen9635 This is great advice!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is a great idea sounds like the perfect capsule!
I'm the same. I try to have a weeks worth of "everyday outfits" per season.
I would love to make it really simple and have 7 dresses, but that is a work in progress.
Me too on the 7 dresses! Working on this
Retired at 69. So scarfs, heavy for winter and lighter for spring and autumn, cardigans, coats, raincoats, hats, gloves, boots and shoes, exercise and walking shoes warm socks, casual shoes, dressy shoes, thick tights and thin ones for outings,
I love colours and i have done the colour thing and the colours that i use are spot on.
@@capsuleclosetstylist I’m not big on loud colors. I wear only colors that enhance my skin tone. And I stick with that. 😁
Sounds perfect well done!

Thanks you very much for your excelent video! So useful and full of wise ideas. I’ll follow your topics, starting with a Pinterest homework. ❤

Thank you I learned a lot. I keep all this in mind when shopping.

Such an interesting video. Lots of points to learn from - thank you 😊

What about wearing black?? Most clothes of mine are black and I have just added rust which I think looks pretty good with my frosted brown hair. I don’t like bright colors I don’t like pastels.
@Hobbs192 It really depends on your colouring. Black does not work for everyone, but if you say you have brown hair it likely does.
Love this. I’m a 61 yo art teacher and looking online for ideas to refresh what I have to wear. Wanting to simplify and having a capsule wardrobe is a great place to start. Thank you!
Tha sounds like a great idea, check back for more content as I am publishing ideas all the time. Thank you for the feedback
@@capsuleclosetstylist thank you, I will give that a go. Great advice!
You are welcome
You are very welcome and well done for getting started. 🙂
This is all very well, but, the pictures of ladies are not in their 60’s & above.
Hi Debra, thank you for your comment. I’m glad you found it helpful
@@capsuleclosetstylist Thanks Michelle - I have booked in for the 20 min session and look forward to meeting you on zoom on 26th Nov.
@AnnaKingston Yes I have received your booking I look forward to meeting you.
Maybe take another look at the winter palettes as there are sub-categories:
True / Cool Winter, Deep Winter, Bright Winter.
Rather than brights, think rich jewel colours.? Emeralds, amethyst, cerise, sapphire blue
Also a True / Cool / Bright red?
If you like comfort keep an eye out for jumpsuits in soft drapey fabrics. They come in plain and patterns and some almost look like dresses.
Love it and can't wait to start this! Thanks so much for sharing what you know.
You are very welcome I am glad you found it helpful
I just retired after many years of factory work. I realized that 90% of my clothes were utility pants and company shirts so I’m (happily) having to start from scratch! Great video with lots of helpful tips. Thanks!

Why have I only just found you! What marvellous guidance and suggestion
Hello thank you for taking the time to comment and give me feedback. I really appreciate it. I am glad you found it helpful.
Hi Betty this sounds like you have really though about how your wardrobe looks well done! You have made amazing progress. 🎉🎉
Yes those oversized trends sre not flattering for anyone. It soends as if you are getting it right and know what works for you
@@kimberlyperrotis8962 When I worked in a women's clothing store I would tell my customers that the size of a garment was just a general indication and that just because you can get into an item of clothing doesn't mean you should wear it.
Fabulous advice. Thank you!
Thank you for your comment you are welcome
I live in a very warm climate, I’m retired. I essentially wear gipsy dresses or sleeveless t-shirts with wide legged pants and sandals so I don’t need jackets, blazers, jumpers, boots ; at most a shawl, a long sleeve shirt when it gets a bit colder in winter. I liked your advice and keep it in mind when it’s time to renew some pieces. Thank you

Smashing video. Learnt more than I have watching masses of others. Thanks very much.
Hi Jacqueline, Thank you for your comment. I am glad you found it useful.
When it comes to fashion, this old proverb is especially true: there is nothing new under the sun. I’m 64 and stick to classics I love, and trends that revive them. I like to dress Smart Casual most days, but don’t wear denim. Thanks for your video🙂
That is absolutely true. I totally agree! You are welcome
I am curious as to why you do not wear denim. I need to get some style, but am not focused on it enough to pay this lady.
You are wonderful and so insightful. Thank you!
Ah thank you for your kind words I’m glad you found it helpful.
So well explanation, thank you so much.
You are very welcome I am glad you found it helpful.
Love this best advice I ever heard!
Thank you so much for the feedback I am glad you have enjoyed it.
Do the colours that suit u change when ur hair goes white?
Yes it normally does change. Not all of the colours will but some will yes.
I find spring and autumn now last about 3 days in the uk, so most of my wardrobe is winter and summer with a tiny handful of of stuff for the other seasons. And by tiny handful i basically mean a trench coat 😂
Yes I agree though this year we’ve had three days of summer so far haha
@@capsuleclosetstylist yeah and if you think that's bad, I paid a small fortune to go to Lanzarote for two of those days. Where it was colder 🙈
Nooo!
I don't shop. There was a time that I did. years ago for entertainment - Hey, let's go to the mall? 😊 Of course I purchase necessities. That said, there comes a time when you have everything you need and love, as time goes by. I like your ideas!
Hi Jeanie, Thank you for your comment. This is fantastic, it sounds as it you have. workable capsule wardrobe already!
I've had my colours done 30 years ago. The problem is, is that I can't find clothes made in my palette in the UK. It seems to be black, blue and black, I'm autumn.
It's quite depressing, and frustrating.
Do you think your colours still work for you? I find that a lot of the predetermined palettes do not work entirely for some people.
Getting my closet purged again, good thoughts to stay focused on and let go of unnecessary items!
Take your time with it. It doesn’t happen over night
Thanks so much
I love your approach.

I love Pinterest for loads of different subjects, even persuaded my 75 year old husband to start using it!
Amazing well done! Yes it can be a little addictive.
can you please say what your fee is for color analysis? Thanks!
@stephyfajardo8111 Yes so I have a colour analysis and body type service which Identifies the colours that suit you best and the styles that work for your body type best. I find that offering them together helps clients become better informed when choosing clothes. That is $199 USD. I still love my old vibrant colors but my hair and skin color has changed and now requires a softer look. Scarves have become my go to way to add color ( to keep my heart happy). but still keep my wardrobe monochromatic .

@debvc6 That is very tricky. Do you deal with the contrast between heat and very cold air con too?

Hi Michelle, this is my first time of viewing your channel,
You say find your redeeming feature but what if you don't have any. 😊
I am only 5ft short and a curvy frame so unfortunately find it hard to get trousers, skirts and dresses that don't make me look shorter.
This was awesome 🦋
Thank you for your feedback I am glad you enjoyed it.
There was also a guy in Australia who was a news presenter and he wore the same suit for a year to see if anyone would notice.
Do you know the brand of the scarf at 0:46 or can you tell me the source of the photo so I can do my own research? It would fit incredibly well in my capsule. Warm greetings from Germany!

Check out Julie May too they have some great options.

Autumn as in the colours or the clothes for colder weather? If it is the colours that is all good 😊
Funny thing…I saw an extra walking by Bridget Jones whose style I just loved. Based my wardrobe look on that look. Fully answered the age old question…what would this look like if I slept in it? Many of my dresses double as sleepwear.
That is great versatility. Funnily enough I worked with Renne Zellweger many moons ago.
now that Im in my late 60's and have dealt with some health issues my body type has totally changed and my clothes don't fit and I don't think I am the same style I have always had.
Hi Laura, have you tried the Pinterest board idea to get some inspiration again?
Sooo.. you're saying the online colour matching questionnaires work well ? Because no one is coming to you for help after doing them?
