  • The Flash isn't doing great at the box office which is honestly a shame. It was a pretty awesome flick that people are not going to see. One reason why is the poisoning of the well thanks to the Snydercult. Ezra Miller being a sketchy individual isn't helping things either. That said, the film is fun, exciting and has some great heart. I give you my spoiler-filled thoughts on The Flash!

I'm tired of the shared universe crap. Phase 4 exists simple to exist and the DCEU has been without a point ever since Josstice League. Infinity Saga was good, because it began and ended. I wish WBD would just drop the obsession and get back to closed-ended franchises.

@@MSgt_0699 Kevin Feige Reveals What Marvel's Phase 4 Is Really All About
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige reveals that while previous MCU phases didn't always have a theme, the current Phase 4 definitely does.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige seems to have things all figured out when it comes to the future of these massively popular comic book movies. Well, at the very least, he's extremely adept at making it look like he has it all figured out. As a result, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (which now includes their new Disney Plus shows like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and now the rather "out with a whimper" series Loki), has a pretty clearly defined future as it powers through its 4th phase of projects, and it turns out they'll be sharing a bit of a theme.
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn't always been under the same leadership, it's always been divided into phases right from the start. From the first Iron Man in 2008 all the way to Avengers: Endgame and beyond, every phase begins with some standalone films and ends with a big ensemble blowout with quips and banter aplenty. Phase 4's main difference so far is that it launched via several TV shows before premiering its first movie (the prequel film Black Widow), but now that it's in full swing, things are ready to really begin.
In a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Feige clarified what he believes is the overarching theme of the MCU's current phase. "Truthfully, Phase Four was always about continuing in new ways and new beginnings," he explained. "Even with films that seemingly are concluding storylines, there are new beginnings within them." After 3 phases largely revolving around the same core cast of characters with the occasional newbie joining the fray, focusing entirely on the new kids might be exactly what the MCU needs to keep things fresh going forward.
The thing is, Feige normally doesn't subscribe to the idea of phases among the Marvel movies. Sure, they're rather clearly defined and tend to be unavoidable when there are so many stories being told. After all, when these many characters come together, there has to be some kind of order to the chaos in order for any of it to make sense. But his focus seems to be more on the stories themselves rather than the bigger picture. Even so, he acknowledges the undeniable fact that these new upcoming films will share a common theme.
While there have been plenty of longer-running franchises out there, Marvel as a whole has all the others beat when it comes to the sheer volume of projects under its banner. To put it in perspective, imagine if every single James Bond movie ever made had come out in the span of just over a decade rather than the 60-year history it currently boasts. Even then, Marvel would quickly have it beat, with highly anticipated movies like Shang-Chi and similarly awaited shows like She-Hulk looming on the horizon.
Even though Marvel is pretty much as mainstream as it gets nowadays, it's still accomplished one heck of a feat (or several, if each phase is its own feat, because getting annoyingly technical is fun). Some might be experiencing some burnout on the series, but the idea of focusing almost entirely on new beginnings, as Feige said, might be exactly what the franchise needs to keep people interested. If not, then there's always Star Wars for those who'd rather complain about other things.
Kevin Feige Says the Post-‘Avengers 4’ MCU May Be a “New Thing”, Not “Phase 4"
KEVIN FEIGE BREAKS DOWN THE MCU'S PHASE 4 SO FAR: WANDAVISION, FALCON, LOKI, AND BLACK WIDOW
IN THIS EXCLUSIVE, THE PRESIDENT OF MARVEL STUDIOS REFLECTS ON HOW ENDGAME GAVE US HOPE IN THE PANDEMIC, THE EVOLUTION OF THE MCU ON DISNEY+, AND WHEN WE CAN EXPECT TO SEE KATHRYN HAHN AND FLORENCE PUGH BACK IN THIS UNIVERSE.

Kevin Feige Says Marvel Studios Phase 4 Is About New Beginnings
Marvel Studios' "Phase Four" lineup of original content is already drastically different from the three that preceded it in two major ways: 1. It's only slated to be about two years long rather than three or four; and 2. It expands beyond movies and includes Disney+ original shows. After multiple COVID-19 delays we're finally in the thick of their plans with three shows behind us and one movie in the wind, and Marvel Studios is keeping their "foot on the gas" as company head Kevin Feige says in a new interview. He also offered some perspective on the theme of Phase Four.
"You know the definition of phases often evolve with the phases and often I leave up to writers and journalists to decide, that's for the film historians to tell us what the phases were about," Feige told Rotten Tomatoes. "Truthfully Phase Four was always about continuing in new ways and new beginnings, even with films that seemingly are concluding storylines there are new beginnings within them and that was what was most exciting to us about the opportunity to make shows for Disney+, about all of us at Marvel Studios choosing to continue past Endgame and past Far From Home and leaving the Infinity Saga behind to a new beginning."
He continued, "That I think is what people will be looking at Phase Four, I hope, as having accomplished. But we're in the middle of it now so it remains to be seen, we don't take our foot off the gas, we don't take anything for granted, and we all work extremely hard to deliver."
The next two years on Marvel's schedule is absolutely stacked with the announced releases including: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on September 3, 2021, Eternals on November 5, 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home on December 17, 2021, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on March 25, 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder on May 6, 2022, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on July 8, 2022, The Marvels on November 11, 2022, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17, 2023, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on May 5, 2023.
Disney+ shows in the works from Marvel that will arrive over the next couple of years include the animated What If...? on August 11, 2021, Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye in late 2021, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special in 2022, and Ironheart, Armor Wars, and the Untitled Wakanda series, which are without release windows.

We saw this concept play out this week when all the usual grifters were up in arms about the Star Wars release schedule presented at Star Wars Celebration.
      Niche Scenes quote-
@serenityq26 Seems people only want the avengers again but would complain if they brought them back. They complained not enough characters died in infinity war then lots of them retire and they complain. They complain they need a break, pandemic happen and we got no movies, they complained that there were no films, they complain that it should all end and its all a cash grab and nostalgia berries have them believing thor 2 iron man 2 hulk 1, avengers 2, etc were all peak and not also a drop from the usual that was each phase. This phase on paper is stronger and has more variety than other phases which were mostly earth based and about a coming of age or new hero's journey. Now were getting discussions on destiny, family, loss of time, hope, life, depression, loathing, love, etc but people are too busy dunking to review the movies without asking where is this all heading hurry up. We ask for movies to be less predictable then when they arent signposting where they are going we ask where are we going this is boring. etc. There have been some not for everyone movies and tv, but it's not any worst than the normal 5/10 stuff on other media...and has highs of 8/10 which is watchable.

The giant spider that Nick Cage Superman fights wasn’t a deep cut from the comics. It was actually a nod to a producer working on the Superman Lives film that Nick Cage would’ve starred in. Kevin Smith went into detail years ago about how this guy wanted Superman to fight a giant spider, regardless of what the actual story involved. This producer would eventually go on to work on Will Smith’s Wild Wild West where the iconic enemy of that film is- you guessed it- a giant spider. My buddy and I just lost it when we saw the freaking spider on screen. Genuinely hilarious

A lot of lowest-common denominator fan service and wonky CGI didn't pull me out of the particularly strong narrative. All the stuff with Barry, himself, and his mom was excellent. I felt Keaton was a bit wasted: but he wasn't bastardized or ruined at all, which was nice. The George Clooney cameo was awesome. But unless we see an animated finish, it's done. I have the great satisfaction of Snyder's Trilogy being a complete package. I love it, and The Batman, and Joker. It's the drama and seriousness that pulls me. Although I did like Gunn's Suicide Squad too, while acknowledging that he hammed up the B characters.
I thought The Flash trailer looked like it was going to make Snyderverse numbers. But it didn't because it was more of the same comedy-filled Hamada crap that has earned WB flop after flop. The drama was tampered and even dismissed at times, and the comedy was prevalent, which turned what drama was there into nothing. It also just looked terrible. Even people who genuinely liked it shrugged it off as soon as they left the theater. It's yet another one-off in a dead franchise. This is why Gunn has to slam a homerun with Superman: Legacy. I hope he learned some lessons that this wrecked DCEU had to teach.

The problem with man of steel is that we barely got know Clark. I like seeing Superman be Clark Kent and date Lois and I felt Lois knowing kinda made their relationship uninteresting. In the og superman, he was a CHARACTER. He had a PERSONALITY. He was funny. He was awkward. Entertaining to watch as both Clark and Superman. In Snyder's movies didn't have that same level of character interaction between the cast. Lawrence fishbourne has some good lines but everyone else kind of sits there. His movies became more about the analysis of what Superman is but the problem is that it didn't tell us something we already didn't know about supes. The industry sees us as all one big chaotic hive mind instead of fans that actually enjoyed what Snyder brought to the table. During his tenure, we constantly were being reamed for enjoying his take on the character and stories. Not to include what fans had to endure from the fickle & aimless nature of WB alone. And now that that period is over, we're taking heat for future failings of these movies. Some of us honestly have no interest in investing in an industry full of formulaic MCU-like, 1&done movies that industry thinks is the standard for CBMs. The days of Watchmen, MoS, Logan, Daredevil (Netflix), Blade, etc. are unfortunately over.

Harrison Ford is 80!! The last Indiana Jones movie was universally hated and it came out 15 years ago. However, now you feel that everyone should look forward to an 80 year old man carrying a whip or at least not talk about the absurdity of it. Especially since he kicked major ass in the last one 🙄 I’m sure at 80 he’ll be rolling through bad guys John Wick style. Talk about suspension of disbelief! You have to admit that there is a more than an excellent chance that this movie will suck and it won’t be b/c the audience is being unfair. Did I mention the ACTION star of the movie is 80!!!!!!!!!! Men that old aren’t kicking ass. You said it’s vile and disgusting the way people are going to attack this old man for making an action movie. These people have every right to be upset. We have all been invested in this legendary character and franchise for decades and we deserved better than the crap he put out at 65 years old. Now they’re going to do it again but this time he’s 80! Meanwhile you just want us to take it and smile and not point out that they are ruining the legacy of a childhood hero to most men over 30. When this movie ultimately fails you’re just going to sit back and wait for the negative responses for this POS just so you can say “I told you so.” Let me ask you this, if Harrison Ford lives to be 100 years old and they make another Indiana Jones movie. Can I get mad then or am I still a baby? Just curious what the cut off age is for when an action star goes from bad ass to old man.

I think you mean BATMAN & ROBIN, Adam. 😉Clooney was so unexpected and yet so fitting for the joyous movie. And yet what we have is actually a tragedy, Barry didn´t save the day, he was his own worst enemy, Zod was more of a background villain. Heroes actually died. How refreshing. But even with the somber note what a joy. 😍 Perhaps it added what the Snyder movies were missing. Even if I like them.

I’ve been laughing for days , the Flash burning at the box office is awesome and I’ve been smiling non stop. Plus my reason for being so happy is nothing to do with Synder. You might love this movie good for you, but Ive refused to support this movie purely because of Ezra the stain miller. Now allegations aside, he’s attacked and threatened and multiple people. I’ve got nothing against people watching the movie I hope they enjoy it, but that doesn’t mean I have to support this movie or support his success simple.
Yeah so I loved Synder vision it’s 100 x better than what’ve had since. Adam I’m not on Twitter but Synder is nothing to do with this movie tanking. There’s 2 main reasons, 1 Gunn burned it all down, so who should care, the universe is completely dead. So why should people who loved something turn up to the movie that destroys what people loved and leave the worst part about it.
Which is the 2nd reason Ezra the stain miller, people don’t want to support his success and you shouldn’t slam people that have chosen to vote with their wallets.

I started to enjoy the film when the main plot started, the whole going back in time to stop the murder of his mother. Yes, I agree i think i enjoyed alot of this film because it did things i have not seen. Lots of fantastic action scenes balance out the dramatic plot.
As horrible of a person as Ezra Miller has been his performances were outstanding.
Keaton's Batman was introduced in a really interesting way.
But you were able to spot that it was him easily.
The CGI was hit and miss.
I agree that the babies scene wasn't great.
The SuperGirl action scenes were worse, imo.

Loved your recap. It reminded me of all the things that WERE very good about it (some of which I'd already forgotten, because there's SO MUCH thrown at the wall). I'm still not convinced to rush out and see it again. I think it might be worthy of a Blu-ray pickup, later on.
The problem I had with it (outside of Ezra sometimes just being good at the performance but just a bit too obnoxious) ...is that it was all so pointless.
You brought up an interesting comparison between this Zod being uninteresting vs the Man of Steel Zod, just like Endgame Thanos was a bummer compared to Infinity War Thanos. Likewise, I thought the resolution of the big "Zod fight" to let his Mom die was LAME in the same way that Endgame using time travel to defeat Thanos was LAME.
While it didn't prevent the idea of us seeing Keaton Batman and Calle Supergirl ever again, it was a completely dissatisfying way to leave their story unresolved. (One would presume Zod would still be coming in their future, right?)
And....Clooney is a reference to Batman & Robin, not Batman Forever (which was Val Kilmer). 😉

I finally saw it and I have to say I'm not a fan. The baby scene was just TERRIBLE and mixing in the silly humor instead of making it heroic was a mistake. I was cool with the two Barry's thing other than the fact that the younger one was so grating that it made me root for Zod. I liked Keaton in this although there were moments that were shaky (he is 70 in this). But the surprise for me was Kara who I really liked (despite the horrific CG in the breakout scene). Then to cement my dislike of the film, they decided they couldn't win and therefore should just let Zod win and let everyone on Earth die (including Barry's family). Then you lose younger Barry, Batman, and they allow Kara to die like that without even finding a way to bring her back in the end (originally in the movie but changed by the idiots in charge) and the finale is Clooney-Batman saying hi.
I'll be honest, the movie really was trash, although it had some very good moments. It definitely had the potential to be a great movie. Even going in with low expectations I was disappointed.

The biggest gripe that drags The Flash down for me is its ghoulish PS2-quality VFX which almost reminds me of some of the nightmarish montages from 'Where The Dead Go To Die', one of the worst animated cgi movie of all time (watch it at your own risk!)

First off: butchering the Flashpoint story
Second, Barry didn't learn the lesson of the movie since he still fucked with the past by messing with the security cam which threw him into an other world where George Clooney is Bruce Wayne
thirds, he got Supergirl and Batman killed because of his selfishness
and lastly, the killer (Revers Flash) is never shown in the movie and not once does Barry even think or consider to finding out WHO killed his mom.
They just let thant glance over makes NO sense

So disappointed with this movie. A mixed bag of Schumacher cheese, Whedon cringe, Hamada's goofy comedy, with a salting of Burton goth and Snyder drama. Muschietti and the writers tried to please everybody. It was like Josstice League all over again. The story was very nonsensical and the CG was so very bad and distracting. Flash's Mom dying somehow affected some deep space killing of baby Superman?! Her death somehow reveals an imprisoned Supergirl who has always been there?! How does Batman look different everywhere, but The Flash is Ezra Miller no matter what?! Saving his Mom had such absurd consequences just by putting the can in the cart, but sure, lets go ahead and move the cans up because we didn't learn anything, which apparently had no consequence other than what was expressly intended. And the end battle in the open desert was meant to avoid the whining about the destruction in MoS. During any good scene I was preoccupied with how bad or senseless the last scene was.
Each Hamada flop is making it that much harder on Gunn to get this shared universe crap going again. Blue Beetle is going to tank too. Even the trailer looked crappy.

Between you and Stuckman saying you enjoyed yourselves and others like Disparu and Critical Drinker saying its awful, im guessing the film lands somewhere around a 6 for the average viewer. I may stream it someday, but i simply cant support the theatrical run due to Miller's criminal behavior. Regardless of one's opinion on Miller and the relevance of this film due a reboot being on the horizon, i think most can at least agree folks have plenty of good reasons to pass on the film and understand one's lack of desire to see it. A lead surrounded in controversy, a brand known for movies that typically land between bad and painstakingly average, and the superhero genre as a whole being so overly represented.
That said, i definitely look forward to Gunn steering the ship and hope the new DC line of movies is full of fun flicks that i get hype to take the family to. I miss the good ol days of getting hype for nearly every MCU movie .. i hope at least a small bit of that can be felt at the future DC movies.

I thought it was great and can’t understand ALL the negative reviews. SOME I do, but I didn’t think CGI was any worse than any other modern effects heavy movie that’s come out in the last 5 years, so don’t get that criticism.

I loved The Flash... certainly not perfect and has its problems but the Box Office has been impacted by numerous other factors..it's not because the film is bad
