Even if this technology will not work for the whole frame it may be usefull for difficult parts like fork crown. I'm looking forward for what will came out of this.
Wow! That last bike from @heavy bikes in Minnesota was the most different thing I've seen in a long time. No tubing! A cast aluminum truss frame like a bridge.
@@cwitt483 technology wise very interesting but there were so many beautiful hand crafted (not forgetting the paintwork) frames on the show. I think it was a little unfair to present this jaw dropper as the last one.
Yeah it's so rad! Really fits that ex-bike messanger and urban rider aesthetic perfectly, while being incredibly functional. More bikes should come with integrated locks, Dutch bikes already do (different than a U-lock though)
@@polendri4812 Fair, but sounds like a bike they built for themselves. They live in Colorado where it doesn't rain much and not a huge angle grinder bike theft scene.
There were so many great bikes represented with all sorts of materials and finishes. You really need to spend more than a few hours to really appreciate the effort the builders and vendors put forth and didn't have that trade show vibe. I'm looking forward to next year. Glad to have been able to meet and greet a few as I think I've found a builder.
Spent a lot of time at the show talking to so many builders and such. I tended to gravitate to the more unique builders. Especially the 2 wooden frame builders. The one from the UK, TWMPA, was an exquisite work of art. Wooden bikes ride exceptionally well and are stronger than you think. Spent time at the Pinion gear/Gates belt drive booth. No derailleurs is very appealing for longer bike packing rides. Really liked the industrial venue. It gave it a feel of that garage inventiveness where a lot of these bikes started. FYI They might move it to September to avoid the forest fire smoke. Looking forward to next year. Cheers
insanely paradoxical that the usa is so car-centric yet has such rich bicycle culture. i guess we have the european version but i do wish the uk had something like this
As an American with 5 vehicles and twice as many bicycles I feel like it is perfectly reasonable to have both cultures. We got the space and we got the means, might not feel that way in bigger congested cities but thats just a small percentage of the country in terms of area, would be nice however if more people rode bikes...
Awesome video. It warms my heart that there's small, independent creators doing this stuff. Kinda reminds me of the wild stuff in the mid 90s MTB scene.
That Chrisworks retro e-bike would be the only electric motorcycle I'd ever want, really spectacular! Can't seem to find anything online about him or this bike, would love to learn more.
Love seeing the creativity and craftship of these designer/builders. Hope they get the financial support they need to keep doing the work they clearly love. Thanks for letting them talk, too
I have a trek 720 I’ve kinda modernized but I don’t love the 1 inch headset. Got like 2 that wernt the exact size for some reason and I just didn’t want to spend on a chris king headset but maybe.
@@lilbtyt7928Yes, there are different pitch threads on the steerer at times, requiring a different thread pitch headset which is annoying and why I would go with a 1" threadless if going custom. Also, my opinion is on road bikes, not mountain. Kieth Bontrager defintely believed in 1" on all his bikes (steel).
Some many nice bikes and skilled builders. My grandfather was one of only a few frame builders in England in the 70s and 80s and he specialized in tandems in steel. He even exported to north America. Hed be so happy to see how custom frames have taken off now.
Great video. Thanks so much for giving such solid interviews with each builder, where they can fully talk about the frames. Wonderful detail. Thank you.
Yes I agree… I bought an entry level Jansno X50 e-bike… I rode my Trek 630 from 1995 through 2004, then upgraded to a fat tire mountain bike that I still own… unfortunately in 2020 and 23 days after I retired I was diagnosed with chronic heart disease, even though I never took a sick day in my 41 years at the same job. But I am not giving up and I do not need an e-bike to match my old crotch rocket days. My first mini bike in 1969 looked like the 1/50th scale bike on the right… so I guess my retro bias kicked in. But you do have a choice to make. Thank you for the video.
The 3D printing is very cool, especially as sintering tech improves. But I'd LOVE to see more hydroformed steel and Ti. Anchor bikes (previously Bridgestone) made some beautiful steel frames (they still make one, the RCN-7) where the tubes were flared to make silver brazing easy, but didn't use separate lugs. They had the smoothness of fillet but the weight of TIG.
The 'one of' art bikes were my favorites and the track bike with the wide stays was very cool. Gravel, onesies and electric shift are fads - Long live the ATB and the front derailer!
My sincere compliments to all the bike “artisans” that displayed their unique craftsmanship, although the bikes that stood out for me were the Onguza and especially the lugged-Wilde…
All of those are sweet. The Significant Other, Bender, Chrisworks, Breadwinner, and Onguza really stood out. But they were all spectacular. Best value probably the Wilde?
Crazy how all the builders use the ultradynamico tyres! The hijacked the market! I would like to know if they are worth the hype or just a stylish tyre?
20:10 The first ebike I would really love to ride!!!!! More of this is needed!!! Apart from this I loved everything in this video. Never expected to see so many awesome custom bikes in 2023.🥳🥳🥳
Love the builders & bikes you chose to highlight. I'm also glad to see aluminum is being rediscovered & deployed more creatively, seemingly with better compliance than 20+ years ago!
That fully cast frame was wild.
Yes I like that one , very cool frame , nice struts moulded in on there !
All respect to all skilled welders in the film. But I hadn't imagined a cast frame before.
The Kirk position was cast but it could catch fire lol
Time stamp?
Even if this technology will not work for the whole frame it may be usefull for difficult parts like fork crown. I'm looking forward for what will came out of this.
Great to see so many women up there creating, designing and building.
That crazy 40s/50s vintage style ebike is amazing! And with a Rohloff too! Wow!
I really loved how the water bottles were positioned to look like cylinders.
I want to see more of this bike. What was the builder's name and what is his website?
That lugged Wilde bike is gorgeous.
Stellar bikes and Crust were cool. Everything else was more or less in the same fashionable gravel/road/urban category.
That cast frame has unlimited possibilities. You could truly do just about anything. Man that would look sick pollished.
Wow! That last bike from @heavy bikes in Minnesota was the most different thing I've seen in a long time. No tubing! A cast aluminum truss frame like a bridge.
Remember Kirk precision back from the early 90’s …. Look what happened to most if not all there frames __
@@cwitt483 technology wise very interesting but there were so many beautiful hand crafted (not forgetting the paintwork) frames on the show. I think it was a little unfair to present this jaw dropper as the last one.

That's my build at 20:10. Thank you Russ and Laura for the feature! @christopherwerks
The Watts😍 More of this please!
That vintage built electric 'Chrisworks' bike! Sir, you created a masterpiece. Chappeau! Mind you.... *everyone* here is amazing.
Danielle is killing it!
Every bike you showed is beautiful. Thank you!
i went from; oh, to oh nice, to wow, to goodness me , back to wow, to dang, a whole roller coaster of amazing creations from joy makers.
Really love this episode. Celebrating the artists and their craft. Super interesting and inspiring. 🚴✨✨

its because motorists keep running into us and we have to buy a new bike every few months
Big congrats for your masterful approach - letting the builders tell their story. Well done.
Concurred.
This video was a real treat! I love bikes so much now as I ditched my car 7 years ago. My health as well as pocketbook have done well.
I love the way Ira routes the cable of the front brake!!! So nice
I think what I enjoy most about bikes is that you can do whatever you want, and no one really cares. Everyone is just glad people are having fun.
Awesome video. It warms my heart that there's small, independent creators doing this stuff. Kinda reminds me of the wild stuff in the mid 90s MTB scene.
I really like the shiny finishes, something I miss that was on bikes when I was a kid.

Likewise! Can't find anything online....its a gorgeous piece of work
The Heavy Bikes one was cool.

Koudos to the builders still using a torch to build frames!

so many wow bikes in this batch, and all built for fun and enjoyment

Great selection to focus on. Love to see some bikes covered in detail that I kind of overlooked.

I realy never would put an living room table made from plastic in my room and knowing how it was made, all the same how it 'looks'.
Big ups to Onguza - love what they're doing. Talent is everywhere but opportunity is not.
loving that watt frameworks bike, fun take on the hope lotus bike

The Schön and Significant Other were absolutely nutty. Both dreams bikes. Would love a gnarly mini velo and this tracklo monster.
Thank you for the amazing coverage of an awesome event! As someone who aspires to build frames I truly appreciate this.
these bikes put into perspective how nice the top of the line Steel bikes from the 90s were.
the last bike is beyond cool. What they did alloy was moving art one of kind work
Fantastic show. Lots of really interesting bikes. I dream of owning a custom bike some day.
Dang, life got in the way, but I had intended to go to this! Well, I'm glad you got a recording so I can still see some of the stuff that was there
That Breadwinner is glorious! Thanks for the coverage.
I normally don't comment on this stuff, but although real groovy and clever, there is a lot of impracticality going on with most of these bikes.
Love these custom bike build videos
