At 28 I often chastise myself for 10 wasted years before finding a goal. This video relieves some of that self-loathing. Good luck on your journey, Jake. I hope you find what you're looking for.
When i wake up i have a 2 task rule for the day. If i can do those two things and do them well i succeeded. I always leave space for ME whether thats video game, sketching or watching TV eith my spouse. At 37 i finally realized that im not gona change the world but i can make a difference in my own life. ❤
@@jake_enslin I have been afflicted by what you would call a savior complex. At 21 I enlisted in the Airforce. Afterwords i went into teaching. Although great experiences none of those things brought me joy in my personal life. And the lack of positive impact on society left me feeling used and disillusioned. So i had to understand that its not my responsibility to change the world BUT it is my redponsibility to make myself happy and help those i love. THAT is where i can make a difference. Its been an ongoing journey byt at 37 it feels like im finally understanding the cruel realities of life.
@@rikubear6549 I feel that. I went into teaching also. Nothing wrong with teaching, I appreciate the hell out of those who do it, but I personally made a lot of decisions early on in my life that didn't consider my basic needs at all.
Thank you for sharing this with me, I’m 18 and I feel like I’ve had a small grasp of these concepts. I found the doing less aspect interesting, with regard to living a quality life. I seriously appreciate you sharing this at a time in my life where I am literally pressuring myself and sometimes I just gotta take some unnecessary stuff off my plate. Thank you bro. Keep livin’
Such a good video. I am in a similar place... so therapeutic to hear someone that is in a similar boat. Also, you low-key look like Austin Butler. Haha.
Good thoughts, Jake. I remember it was my 30s when I felt like an actual adult. I know that sounds silly, but I had my teaching career established, a home, etc. so I felt grounded, for lack of a better word. One of my favorite quotes from Shakespeare is: "To thine own self be true". Yes, as a Christian, I'm always TRYING to think of others before me, but I'm also human. I won't do something that the general population says I should do just because they say I should do it. "What's right isn't always popular and what's popular isn't always right." Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
Grounded is a great word for where I'm at. There was so much "wandering" early on in my life. Though I'm sure there will be more wandering in the future, and that's ok too
Sounds like someone who has settled on mediocrity. You've given up on being the best version of yourself. Rise and grind. Lock in. Just kidding. I'm 31 and this video resonated with me. I too think we should live our lives in a way that please us so long as it doesn't harm those around us. We aren't obligated to live a life that is expected of us.
This is the beauty of capitalism. It expands your ability to help others. You can present your uniqueness, and some will buy it and some won't. Do some take advantage of it? Of course. And they always will. But it also allows you to be expand into the community and lift others up, when you have that option. And many of you do. Crony capitalism is a curse of nepotism. But free market capitalism is about the little guy and is the source of innovation.
what a great video man, im 24 and i found this hugely relieving
Happy to hear that brother!

I've honestly really enjoyed my 30s so far
@@jake_enslin no lie! The 30s is when everything falls into perspective, making the 20s such a blur .
