Lot of people give Zavala flack for this but you’ve got to look at it from his perspective. The Red War under Ghaul was devastating, and Titans were hit particularly hard. There used to be something like four or five Titan Orders at the start of the war. Only one survived it after losing their Light and that was because their doctrine was to take the fight to the enemy out beyond the City’s walls. They weren’t at the City when it was hit while the other Titan Orders fought to the last man. Literally hundreds if not thousands of Guardians died their final deaths. And now you have something that took out Cayde, one of the strongest Hunters of the time. Most Guardians can barely finish strike missions without dying - Shaw Han is the average, not the player who is already in the top percent as the god slayer that killed Oryx. If the Vanguard had declared war in the reef odds were good that dozens more Guardians at the least would’ve died permanently, and more to the point the City was still in ruins here, vulnerable with their Guardians stretched thin. People might not agree with Zavala’s opinions here but they weren’t without very good reason.
What Cayde-6 meant when he said that the hunter vanguard was the best bet he ever lost, was not in reference to that he died as the hunger vanguard, but rather that he became the hunter vanguard in the first place. He didn't want to be, but he lost a bet with a friend, Andal Brask, that said, "If one of us kills Taniks (A fallen that had killed two of their friends, and the ghost of another) the other would become the hunter vanguard." That's called a Vanguard Dare amongst the hunters, since no hunter wants to be burdened with the role of hunter vanguard, they want to be free and explore the world. Most hunters aren't even in the last city, they're out and about. Cayde-6 did kill Taniks, or so he thought, but he came back to life (as he tends to do) and later Taniks came back and killed Andal Brask, meaning Cayde-6 lost the bet and had to become the hunter vanguard. And so, the words, "The hunter vanguard was the best bet I ever lost" means that even though he didn't want to be hunter vanguard, it proved to be one of the best things that happened to him. Also, when Cayde-6 said, "I'm coming home, Ace." That is referring to the son he thinks he had in his previous life. He's not sure, since no light bearers remembers their past life, but he feels like he had a son named Ace, and so he named his Hand Cannon after his son. You can also obtain this Hand Cannon in the game, it's an exotic, and very good! All this info comes from lore, by the way, so it's not spoilers.
I'm really enjoying this series, watching you revisit all this moments... lots of memories. I'd like to advise you about what is the best part (imo) of the game, which is usually highly related to the campaigns, particularly to their end: the raids. It would be awesome if you could find a group of guardians with no experience in raids and play them together, solving the mechanics, and beating the final saga of that campaign with no guides. I wish i could replay for the first time some raids. The feeling of achievement, comradery and sheer excitement for sticking with 5 friends for hours to beat the final bad guy of the campaign is, from my point of view, one of the best feelings when playing videogames, and only D2 has managed to achieve it, for me.
I would love to, not sure how easy those folks would be to find. I’m up for it though if anyone falls into that category. I can only imagine the thrill of a raid!!! Also just put up a post looking for new players because of you. Thank you!
About villains: - Gaul is good, but he is very.. mundane, and it makes him relatable. - Curse of Osiris and Warmind (you watched it without making a video out of it, yes?) - we do not oppose an individual, but monsters and forces of nature. - Forsaken: Uldren is too much of a hate-sink (by killing Cayde) and glimpses of Mara steal the show. - In seasons (Menagerie) and raids we had Callus, who is very much larger then life. You need to check Byf's and Lore Vaults videos to learn about him - everything was removed form the game. - Shadowkeep is my favorite campaign probably, and once again it's more about monsters and forces of nature. - Beyond Light i will put on equal grounds with Red War - Witch Queen is favorite of many people, and titular character is very well liked. - Lightfall... is problematic. It's an obvious filler (there are video that splices opening and ending cinematic and it's obvious that it's intended to be one) and failed on multiple levels. It's also introduced Strand that thematically fits a lot better for Witch Queen, but was delayed due to production reasons. - Final Shape is amazing, and antagonist very much deserves the title.
There is no longer limited ammo for primary ammo (white) weapons, so that you can’t ever fully run out of ammo for all your weapons which could happen sometimes before.
Still can't watch any of those cinematics without tears welling... Oh, since no one asked, Cayde didn't lose that bet. His best friend Andal did and became the Hunter Vanguard. He died on the job which prompted Cayde to take on the mantle. As you can guess, that job is kinda cursed. Pretty much every occupant of that position has either straight up died or gone mia, assumed dead. Which is also why, when it was time to appoint a new one, every hunter canonically found something better to do somewhere as far away from the City as possible
Ghaul is not a bad antagonist by any means. The thing is that my boi Gary never really had a chance to begin with, since Destiny 2 vanilla wasn't really well received and the player sentiment tends to be lukewarm about him. That being said, Ghaul is in mid rank of main antagonists, only being above the antagonists of Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Beyond Light.
Ghaul's most interesting quality was his refusal to take the Light by force. He wanted the Traveler to choose him, but he wasn't willing to be worthy of that except by his own narrow-minded imperialistic view of devotion and sacrifice. When he gave up on that and tried to infuse the Light into himself, he became boring, and I was always a little bothered by how meaningless our fight with him feels when the Traveler wakes up, frees itself, and just obliterates him, which it seems like it could have done at any time. That's probably my main problem with the Red War, as well as that it didn't do as much as I would have liked with us being powerless early on. Anyway, I think you'll find Savathun a compelling foil to Ghaul when you get up to The Witch Queen. It also might be worthwhile for you to look up lore videos archiving "memories of Ghaul" from Season of the Haunted, where we got character insight into his background years later.
Yea, the reloads can be rough. You can get a perk on some weapons with auto-loading holster, which is nice in heavy situations with enemies. I flipped my shitz when this happened to Cayde and I'm 56 years old LOL!. My clan of 3 gals are named Cayde's Cowgirls, we just loved his character!
"You get to fight side-by-side with Cayde??" I wish. One of my biggest critiques of Destiny campaigns is the lack of fighting alongside main story characters. Or, in the rare case when they are fighting along side you, they do practically nothing. Sometimes the campaign missions feel a bit like a Disneyland dark ride, where you walk into a room and see the characters doing something in another room, or behind glass, but never actually fighting WITH you in an effective way. Don't get me wrong, most of the Destiny/Destiny 2 campaigns are still great, but there's definitely a disconnect felt at times. I'm like 4 missions into the new CoD 6 campaign, and they absolutely NAILED the feeling of fighting alongside main characters that feel like real and impactful. Here's hoping Bungie takes notes for future campaigns!
Nolan North did a serviceable job as Cayde in this, and he parting notes were really good, but I couldn't help but miss Nathan Fillion throughout this whole thing, Nolan feels a little too hyperactive in the Cayde role. (Maybe he was just excited to play the role, who knows) I also noticed this before with the red war, but it seems like sometimes there are intro cutscenes and whatnot missing in these videos, not sure why. (Intro to Nessus was missing, which showed how Cayde getting caught in the vex teleporter loop and a scene where we first see him stuck in that loop and then the intro to this campaign which included meeting up with Petra and laying out the situation before going to the supermax prison in the reef) Also that line "Speechless, typical" was a reference to the red war campaign when you find Cayde in the loop (We didn't see it) and he's freaking out and delivers the line "I don't got time to explain what I don't got time to understand" and follows it up with something like "Say Something! Say anything!" as a joke for the guardian not having a voice in Destiny 2. (This was in the following time that you find him in the teleport loop in a different location) re; comment on Ghaul: Other villains are good that are coming up, but Ghaul isn't forgettable. Unless you are planning to watch videos on the seasonal story content, then he does come back in a nightmare kind of way and I got so giddy when I got more backstory about him and more of an idea of his personality outside of being his enemy. (You get to see what he was actually like before his legion invaded earth and his relationship with Emperor Callus and his daughter Caitl) Ghaul is still probably my favourite villain because of those scenes that we got with the speaker, which fleshed him out so much and made him seem like a person, not just a mustache twirling villain that has no depth outside of "You are weak, I am strong, I will remind you what the fear of death feels like." (Even though that is pretty cool coming from a villain)
You can actually still play this mission. There are a bunch of missions that you can play to catch up on the story. It's on the director up in the corner, in think its says timeline. Ah, I see you found it. That Cade fight is one of my favorite cinematics. Yes, Gaul is memorable and has great lines but others stand taller as villans.
Now that im rewatching the first mission with you. I didnt realize that when uldren was talking to cayde before killing him. His voice was echoing with his sisters voice.
Its a real shame they took out this content mostly, i have been playing destiny since launch, every release and every season. Forsaken was the best of the best of dlcs for Destiny 2
So, whole reason our Guardian had a 5 year vow of silence was because of costs. Now, if you want the head canon, I suggest looking up "Lance Reddick reads his own Destiny 2 Meme" once you get to Beyond Light. If you don't know, the late Lance Reddick was the voice of Zavala up until last year. And, if you ever feel like it, you can always equip a Salute, or a Humanities Shield emote and pay respects to his character. He loved Zavala, and he loved this community. When it comes to villains, Ghaul was great for his time. But now? I think my top three have to be campaign bosses for WQ, TFS, and Season of the Seraph.
If you go to your destinations tab on the top right corner, there’s a timeline tab. You can start playing some part of forsaken story. I just don’t remember the exact timelines haha
It's unfortunate you never got to hear Cayde talking to the player about "Cayde's lesson in 6" and the iconic "Now let's go to prison!" lines, your game was indeed bugged because Cayde would talk to you in the control room and also do some things. Forsaken was the first time our guardian spoke since destiny 1. Since guardians are immortal they tend to play loosely with their lives which is why Cayde had no problem crashing down a few stories to try to cut off Uldren and his Barons. We would've helped Cayde but he kinda killed us since we dropped 20 stories down and had to fight our way down to him. What's weird is the titan in the video didn't see the light blast from Sundance's (Cayde's ghost) death. The lead baron named Fikrul or The Fanatic is currently the main antagonist for the season and he looks different now, he's the one with the spear. After the forsaken campaign there was an exotic quest called "Cayde's will" and it had messages for people, including us. It ended up allowing us to fix and keep Cayde's gun, in Final Shape Cayde does return and he gives us a special gun as well.
Ghaul is probably arguably only like number 7 of the most memorable villains. The most memorable has CONSISTENTLY come from the Hive. He has had SO many hard hitting notes, but in comparison to ONE villain in particular, one you'll actually get to face off with who we have been chasing since after The Taken King DLC... He kinda just falls to the wayside.
@@demithevampireking4285 that’s incredible because I found him to be so fascinating and engaging. Can’t wait to see and then PLAY more lol thanks, Demi

It will be awhile before you experience a better "thematic" boss. The most recent dlc's have good campaign bosses. Coolest and hardest bosses are outside of campaign but their story isn't as front and center.. can be lore hidden in the game that reveals info
Not sure what UA-camr you have been watching, but he wasn't playing any of these campaigns when they first came out. No one plays without a hud. Also I don't remember that cut scene being in the beginning, so Bungie might have changed it since this video is not from when Forsaken was released. Regardless my boyfriend and I have really enjoyed watching you play revisit some old gameplay that we experienced when these were initially released.
So I started playing during red war, but left shortly afterwards because I didn’t really understand the game, (destiny has always been new player unfriendly) so I missed out on forsaken. I started playing once again about two years back.

Are you skipping Curse of Osiris and Warmind? I mean, they weren't all that good stories, but I think the overall experience was really cool. Great epic moments, like seeing Mercury's past and meeting the most legendary warlock in the Destiny universe, or fighting a literal hive god, even if in gameplay he was a push over... but it was still cool to see one, and also meeting the most legendary Hunter in the Destiny universe, who reappears in beyond light and have some pretty big story implications, so I would at least check out Warmind, since both Mercury and Osiris don't have too much to do with the story.
Dude. How did you get to play vaulted content?? We’re a bit confused over here, unless you spliced some strike content into your reaction video? P.S. I’ve absolutely loved these D2 videos! I never got to play the Red War campaign, that scene at the end when they were all at the Tower, no words were spoken, but had all the feels. Wish they could bring it back. ❤
ghaul is a good villian hes cool, but whoever commented that is right the scale of the other villians he's small potatoes tbh. no spoilers but Rhulk is my favorite for sure hes even more menacing
Also did you know you could have played this mission yourself? I mentioned in a previous comment that Destiny 2 has an in-game timeline which offers a few cinematics for lore and a single quest of some expansions. The first quest of Forsaken can be played.
@@dpatriot4130 You're to fast bro. I started the video, decided to get some food and a cappuccino and you already answered before I could watch everything haha.
Yeah, it’s bugged atm. The timeline missions are much shorter, condensed versions of the original campaign missions. So if you have the dlc I’d recommend playing the original versions first. At some point though, you have to play the timeline missions as part of the rank up process. As far as Big Bads go, Witch Queen is my favourite story, Final Shape has 2nd place.
Hey just a heads up, I don’t know if this is intentional or not. This player is doing the reissue mission of forsaken not the actual campaign if you were intending to watch the whole thing. I can tell because he’s holding the quicksilver storm exotic that didn’t get released until after the full forsaken campaign was removed Edit: this is specifically for the first half of the mission I can see the lighting change for the second part of the video and swapped weapons so you still missed some of the first mission but it looks like you got back on track.
The gameplay with the quicksilver storm is me playing cayde’s fate which ended up bugging out. I added it in between the other guardians gameplay. Good catch!

What Cayde-6 meant when he said that the hunter vanguard was the best bet he ever lost, was not in reference to that he died as the hunger vanguard, but rather that he became the hunter vanguard in the first place. He didn't want to be, but he lost a bet with a friend, Andal Brask, that said,
"If one of us kills Taniks (A fallen that had killed two of their friends, and the ghost of another) the other would become the hunter vanguard."
That's called a Vanguard Dare amongst the hunters, since no hunter wants to be burdened with the role of hunter vanguard, they want to be free and explore the world.
@@Irithylia amazing comment, thank you!
Thank you!
please never stop saying how good the music is, i wanna hear how much you are enjoying it :D
@@pindo5189 it’s sooooo good lol
Im loving the vids man keep it up also when u start the game talk to ikora and get a new light kit
About villains:
- Gaul is good, but he is very.. mundane, and it makes him relatable.
- Beyond Light i will put on equal grounds with Red War
- Witch Queen is favorite of many people, and titular character is very well liked.
@@chocobo_3414 fascinating! That’s awesome to hear. Also, Gary 🤣🤣🤣 that trailer was hilarious when I watched it last week.
@@internisus love this
I loved this expansion. Literally saved destiny.
A lot of the characters from Forsaken are part of the current seasonal story. You should check that out when you're done with the watch-along.
The sunset campaign
Nolan North did a serviceable job as Cayde in this, and he parting notes were really good, but I couldn't help but miss Nathan Fillion throughout this whole thing, Nolan feels a little too hyperactive in the Cayde role. (Maybe he was just excited to play the role, who knows)
I also noticed this before with the red war, but it seems like sometimes there are intro cutscenes and whatnot missing in these videos, not sure why. (Intro to Nessus was missing, which showed how Cayde getting caught in the vex teleporter loop and a scene where we first see him stuck in that loop and then the intro to this campaign which included meeting up with Petra and laying out the situation before going to the supermax prison in the reef)
Also that line "Speechless, typical" was a reference to the red war campaign when you find Cayde in the loop (We didn't see it) and he's freaking out and delivers the line "I don't got time to explain what I don't got time to understand" and follows it up with something like "Say Something! Say anything!" as a joke for the guardian not having a voice in Destiny 2. (This was in the following time that you find him in the teleport loop in a different location)
re; comment on Ghaul: Other villains are good that are coming up, but Ghaul isn't forgettable.
This was the best of Destiny 2.
Now that im rewatching the first mission with you. I didnt realize that when uldren was talking to cayde before killing him. His voice was echoing with his sisters voice.
@@Bluebid21 it was?!? I can’t believe I missed that. Good call out!
@dpatriot4130 yea. It is slightly faint but you can gear the email voice echoing back the works uldren says.

Its a real shame they took out this content mostly, i have been playing destiny since launch, every release and every season. Forsaken was the best of the best of dlcs for Destiny 2
If you like those visuals, just wait until you experience some of the areas of every raid
@@itzFarris wooooo!
This is incredible! Thanks, SFM
If you go to your destinations tab on the top right corner, there’s a timeline tab. You can start playing some part of forsaken story. I just don’t remember the exact timelines haha
@@xTooXGood7x good call out, thanks!
My gameplay from Cayde’s Fate is in this video. Unfortunately, the mission was bugged and couldn’t progress.
You can play cayde's fate mission, although I've heard it's bugged a bit right now, when fixed you could run that mission. It's loaded from destinations screen.
@@RavenAnima yes! My gameplay of that mission is in this video. It transitioned pretty smoothly into my gameplay, but unfortunately it was bugged which you can see here. Ugh
@dpatriot4130 sorry yes, I saw after my comment was posted lol hopefully you'll get to play soon. It's a great mission. Glad you're enjoying D2! I've played since D1

You should re inable your HUD. Just makes life easier. Love these videos as well!
It’s a reaction video so unfortunately, kind of stuck with how things are.

What did you think of Curse of Osiris and Warmind? I know you said you’d be watching those ones on your own.
If you thought them taking red war out was bad....oh boy. This ine really stings
They weren't supers they were finishers you can do a finisher on an enemy if it's weakened enough to have a icon above it's head
😳 can’t wait to progress
Also did you know you could have played this mission yourself? I mentioned in a previous comment that Destiny 2 has an in-game timeline which offers a few cinematics for lore and a single quest of some expansions. The first quest of Forsaken can be played.
My gameplay is in this video. Unfortunately, the mission was bugged and couldn’t progress.
I can tell because he’s holding the quicksilver storm exotic that didn’t get released until after the full forsaken campaign was removed
Edit: this is specifically for the first half of the mission I can see the lighting change for the second part of the video and swapped weapons so you still missed some of the first mission but it looks like you got back on track.
The gameplay with the quicksilver storm is me playing cayde’s fate which ended up bugging out. I added it in between the other guardians gameplay. Good catch!
The white ammo is infinite now
