From the Little Creatures album in 1985, David Byrne said the song was about a girl he used to know in Baltimore, who took LSD, and would lie in the grass outside the YooHoo Drink Factory. He said she would lie there staring at the clouds oblivious to the rest of the world. This song made it to Number 54 on the BillBoard Hot 100 and was never performed live. With the wonderful pulsing of the drums, great guitars and vocals, it was a great tune. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
The Talking Heads come from my home town of Providence RI. They met and came together at Rhode Island School of Design. One of the prime art College in the world. At the time of there career, the 80s they were considered Progressive Rock.
If you're looking for another odd, quirky band, I recommend They Might Be Giants. Their signature song is "Birdhouse in Your Soul," but they have A TON of gems.
Wife here.., Can never go wrong with Talking Heads and they're from the U.S..!..As MOST of New Wave/Synth Rock bands were from England!!!...Great Reaction!!!👍🌹
Everyone in the band were art students and actually met in art college. That’s why all their music and videos are so abstract. It’s their intention to make everything they do artsy and abstract.
The Talking Heads were really big in the 80s, very performance art style, unique but catchy. Burnin Down the House was huge, Psycho Killer etc. This one is great, too. We had excellent music across genres, not just one type.
Once In A Lifetime is their song you didn’t care for. “Same as it ever was” was a popular saying when that was on the radio. When this song came on the radio we always cranked it up!
I was only a kid in the eighties but I love music and it took this band 25 years to slowly become my favorite but now I can't go a week without listening to him David Byren is amazing whether hes with Talking Heads or solo
You know how you have something to eat or drink for the first time in weeks or months and it tastes so much better than you ever realized? That’s what this song is like. I’m listening to this song with earbuds and it sounds phenomenal. Better than I ever imagined. So happy and thrilled that I get to join this journey with Amber and Jay and all of you. I was listening to “Wild Wild Life” by Talking Heads yesterday. Great song and video.
******DAVID BYRNE & 2 of the Bandmates met at the prestigious RHODE ISLAND SCHOOL of DESIGN art school. That Might Explain Their Unique Take on Everything. They then moved to NY & joined the growing punk scene there.
You guys should listen to "Stay Up Late" and dedicate it to Luca! It is about a little baby boy who has an older sister (or two!). It is an adorable song about a cute baby boy! The girls will love it, too!
Talking Heads has a great New Wave sound along with the other bands you mentioned. Glad you love this sound. Thanks very much. Blessings and happiness!
This song was written by the lead singer. It's about his neighbour who on a Sunday went out on to the grass and dropped LSD. True story. Love and peace.
You guys are definitely covering grounds in music and I love that about you two! I'm a drummer and my first interest of music was listening to and reading music that was orchestrated and also symphony.. with all that said it led me through the same journey of finding music and eventually becoming lover of anything that moves me no matter what genre! I'm impressed with all your other likes and fan comments and ones who have suggested these songs. Great variety! Great reviews! 🤘 Rock on!! 🤘
This is my favorite Talking Heads songs. I dated one guy in college for over a year, and this was our song. I used to wash floors to earn extra money back then, and there was a jukebox in one of the rooms and it played songs for free. I just set it to repeat and danced my way through washing that floor every week.
I love them so much! They pushed boundaries with their art. My mom introduced me to them in the 80s and i was hooked! My mom was such a huge fan of David Byrne . She always commented on how much she loved his dancing 😂 I shared great moments with my mom through them. RIP mamá.
Was it just coinsidence that you play a Talking Heads song straight after playing "Take Me To The River" by Al Green? You did know that Talking Heads covered "Take Me To River" right? 🎼🎵
You have to watch Stop Making Sense to really appreciate the brilliance of Taking Heads. Re his voice... on a later solo album, he sings an operatic duet with Rufus Wainwright, which is stunningly Beautiful. It's from an opera called The Pearl Fishers I think, needs to be listened to!! Just checked...album is Grown Backwards and song is...Au Fond du Temple Saint.
You just did Al Green ‘Take Me To The River’. Talking Heads cover of ‘Take Me To The River’ is fabulous. It’s the perfect time to react to it and compare it to the Al Green version ( it’s one of their best covers believe me! )
Pure art. When weird musicians, write weird lyrics, use their instruments in weird ways, do weird dances, wear weird clothes, and create weird performances that match . . . it's weirdly perfect.
I don’t know if you guys are reading comments anymore I haven’t seen too many hearts given out but I still love watching you guys, so I’m gonna try again I really really really would like to see you react to the Beatles Helter skelter or Back in the USSR
Talking Heads is like the music version of David Lynch. It’s quirky, weird, from out of left field, and you often scratch your head, but it’s so good and unlike anything else out there.
@@pattimurphyrocks omg so true he done that weird series in 80s, absolutely nuts but brill, argggghhhhh cant think of it, name of a town in america i think, going to do my swede in, google it, twin peaks yeah
@@mr.j9176 Twin Peaks was awesome, After the series, they made the movie Fire Walk With Me. My friend and I were vacationing in the Pacific Northwest and went to all the Twin Peaks landmarks and basically came upon the film crew. We watched them film and even met David Lynch and Kiefer Sutherland. We were there when they filmed the scenes with Chris Isaac and Harry Dean Stanton.
You want an "Aha! moment? David Byrne is as they say, "on the spectrum." His music artistry and videos reflect that quite clearly. I was struck by all the comments, during the video and written by viewers about the song, the music, being "weird", "different", "quirky", and have to believe that many to most commenters didn't know that about Byrne. I love that Byrne became successful with his creativity as much as I have loved the music itself.
Talking Heads covered Al Green's "Take Me To The River" which you just reacted to. The first time I ever heard them was when they appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1978. They did "Take Me To The River" and I was fascinated! It was funky, cool and so unique. I was hooked!! And in over 4 decades they have never let me down.
Talking Heads were definitely one of the more original bands to come from the mid 70's New York punk/ new wave explosion (that also spawned Blondie and The Ramones). This album ("Little Creatures") was a high point from 1985- this song, "Road To Nowhere", "Stay Up Late"- just hit after hit of modern pop goodness, after a 3-year hiatus of the members working on other projects (David Byrne with his solo work and multiple collaborations, and Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz's work w/ Tom Tom Club).
One of my favorite groups ever. "Letting the Days Go By" is my favorite of their songs, but all the rest of that album follows closely behind. David Byrne is a musical genius.
As many have stated their live concerts are all ways a visual delight. Got to see them at Red Rocks, Colorado's premier outdoor venue. Many suggestions. Love them all, like you guys. Joe Jackson, had a different sound each album. Thanks again.
Hi guys! Love that you did the talking heads and your right they are a odd group but I like them. Your choice of and she was awesome you guys need to do take me to the river which is cool and you did the great al green take me to the river. The talking heads is my favorite and was surprised when you did the al green version on the same days as the talking heads.
😆 We love Talking Heads. It's old alternative. New wave punk. GenX music. They have odd out there videos too. Very much like B-52s and the Cars. Love them too. Love Weezer too, they were influenced by them later on.
This whole album, Little Creatures is amazing. The Lady Don’t Mind is another killer song from this album. Come to think of it so Television Man and Road To Nowhere.
No.way!? Now you do Talking Heads after just dropping Al Green's Take Me to the River? You have to do that one next! "And She Was" feels like a happier song for them. Still quirky and a great use of "hey hey hey!"
Should check out Talking Heads "IZIMBRA", It's got a nice groove. From David Byrne's solo work, try "Broken Things" "A Million Miles Away" and "Girls On My Mind". Now for another quirky artist...Laurie Anderson. "O Superman" was her first song that I heard. Not sure that Jay would get into it, but Amber might. "Beautiful Red Dress" "Smoke Rings" "Language Is A Virus" "Strange Angels" and "Sharkey's Day" might be better intros into Laurie. But if you're willing to try the 'odd' side, do give "O Superman" and "Walk the Dog" a go.
You should checkout Take Me To The River. Edit: " weirdly cool group" well said Jay, i knew hard rockers in the 80s that liked Talking Heads. They were well received. Great band.
Jay &Amber, You'll love their "Life During Wartime", "Take Me To The River" and "Crosseyed And Painless"!!! Would have been awesome to have done their "Take Me To The River" back to back with Al Green's!
Amber and J ... I was laughing hysterically 😂🤣😂🤣 at you two reminiscing and going through all of the Talking Heads songs!! Ha ha ❤️ I Love it!! @RobSquadReactions
My favorite Talking Heads song is Once in a Lifetime. . . J/k 😜 I do love that song though. My favorite song is Road to Nowhere, followed by Cool Water, and my 3rd favorite is Wild Wild Life. Talking Heads are awesome!! 😁🧠💪🙏🙌
Got to see the Stop Making Sense tour at the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds and it was amazing!!! It was visually and musically one of the best concerts I'd seen in a long time🔥🔥🔥...you two opened a door to some very interesting music so please play some more Talking heads❤❤❤ please stay safe with this crazy weather...love you two😊
I was never a big fan of 80’s new wave music, but Talking Heads have some pretty catchy and dare I say it, enjoyable tunes, and this one is at the top of the list IMO.
Hearing this song took me back and reminded me of another song. Y'all need to check out an 80s band called the Hooters and start with "And We Danced." This is such a happy, peppy song. I'm sure the DJs of our local radio station got tired of me calling every day after school to request it. Haha. But after a long day of 9th grade, this song was needed!.
"The Lady Don't Mind" is another catchy, syncopated Talking Heads song. And since you have kids, you might get a kick of "Stay Up Late." That is a unique song.
I know it's been mentioned previously. I highly, highly recommend you guys watch the concert film, "Stop Making Sense" perhaps as a reaction. I guarantee you will love it!!! They had such an unbelievable approach to the start of that concert I had never seen or heard of any one else doing it besides them. It is just amazing and David Byrne is such a genius.
Talking Heads have a lot of great ones, but I'd like to put in a vote for "Uh Oh, Love Comes To Town," which has a very infectious bass line by the awesome Tina Weymouth.
Love me some Talking Heads! This is one of my fave songs of Talking Heads, along with Psycho Killer (which you both reacted to last year), Wild, Wild, Life, Road to Nowhere, Girlfriend is Better, Burning Down the House, and Once in a Lifetime. IMHO, you just can't go wrong with Talking Heads! Jay & Amber, if you love quirky bands, check out THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS and their song "Birdhouse in Your Soul" along with several others like "Istanbul (was Constantinople)" or "Particle Man"!
Love some Talking Heads! Right You Guys.... Always Qwirky & Fun!!! Great choice Guys...PS- Amber... I always took that TH song as being a Businessman kind of fed up with his life, feeling like he's backed into a corner, and wondering 'How Did I Get Here?'. 'Same as it Ever Was' ie, every day seems to just pass him by. PS- I see comments re: TH version of 'Take Me To The River', which I SECOND (third, fourth or whatever). :)
Even though my now wife and I weren't huge fans of "art rock" or however you want to categorize them, Talking Heads tapes were on continuous rotation on my car stereo back in high school and college (late 70s-mid 80s)...and we still love them!
I listen to it when I’ve had a stressful day where everything went wrong. For me, she’s rising up above her problems and into a zen peaceful state. Another song that helps me this way is I Can See Clearly Now sung by Jimmy Cliff. My mood always rises with both songs.
"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." That was a graffiti I saw on a bathroom wall a few decades ago. BTW, one of the Talking Heads' wonderfully weird songs is "Perfect World" from the same album, Little Creatures.
Talking Heads was a breath of fresh air in the 80's. They helped usher new wave in the us radio waves. They got help from being staples on MTV (back when mtv was relevant) was fun to see you both get to experience them.
Whenever we listened to The Talking Heads, our kids would run to jump on a little indoor trampoline we had. Definitely fun for the kids! They did do Psycho Killer, one of my favorites. I agree with the comment that they are artists in every sense.
Probably my favorite Talking Heads song. When I was in High School (many moons ago) I used to play this on the piano and my friend would accompany me on drums. I suck at the piano but still it was so fun! Now you guys need to check out some YAZ!
LOL! I love that song you can’t vibe with. Maybe it’s just something us 70’s/80’s kids truly get and get even more so now that we are in our 60’s and beyond.
Quintessential 80s, and exquisite opening bass…classic Talking Heads. David Byrne is considered one of the more creative minds in pop music history.

Talking Heads is musical art. You never know what you're going to get with them. Jay described it perfectly...weirdly cool
They’re also a box of chocolates. 😉

Road to Nowhere is brilliant, only overshadowed by Psychokiller
Oh I love that song
That is my favorite one!
Taking Heads is definitely one of the coolest bands ever. And David Byrne is the reason why

Agreed. Big crush on David, but I got to shout out Tina just because I feel her base lines are so underrated

@@O_Towne_Bear I'd argue that he has been very interesting without them. They were great together but their collaboration had run its course. But if you're willing to try the 'odd' side, do give "O Superman" and "Walk the Dog" a go.
You should checkout Take Me To The River. Edit: " weirdly cool group" well said Jay, i knew hard rockers in the 80s that liked Talking Heads. They were well received. Great band.
Epic song from my era!! Another epic song is Something about you from Level 42 😁😁
Jay &Amber, You'll love their "Life During Wartime", "Take Me To The River" and "Crosseyed And Painless"!!!
Would have been awesome to have done their "Take Me To The River" back to back with Al Green's!
Definitely - especially "Take Me To The River" and "Crosseyed And Painless"!
ye crosseyed, lost my shape trying to act casual, i cant stop mightr end up in the hospital, these days facts are bloody few, who new eh
Don't think they've done Nothing But Flowers yet...
Everybody loves this song. EVERYONE. One of their best!
In the movie..Look Who's Talking!!! ❤💗❤ RIP Kirstie Alley. You were so Beautiful! 😔💔😥
Impossible not to love!
What a cool, well-written pop song.
You do not have to like all the songs you listen to, but I'm very glad you enjoyed this one. 🐬🦋😁
Got to see the Stop Making Sense tour at the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds and it was amazing!!! It was visually and musically one of the best concerts I'd seen in a long time🔥🔥🔥...you two opened a door to some very interesting music so please play some more Talking heads❤❤❤ please stay safe with this crazy weather...love you two😊
"Take Me to the River" is an absolute must! Cheers....
So true, they will love to explore the Hooters.
Another good starting song: Johnny B
"The Lady Don't Mind" is another catchy, syncopated Talking Heads song.
And since you have kids, you might get a kick of "Stay Up Late." That is a unique song.
This was the era of "art bands", Lori Andersen, Bowie of course, and many others.
✨
80s music will always be the most awesome !!!
Just watch 'Stop Making Sense' in your own time. Life changing! Love you guys
Soooo good! Talking Heads and David Byrne….fabulous ❤
I actually thought you were going to do their version of Take Me to the River 🤣🤣🤣
So did I. After everyone talking about it under the Al Green post.
It’s a must.
The kids would love their song
STAY UP LATE.
Love this song along with Life during Wartime. My two favourites from this band.
Shout out to both t-shirts (big KISS fan here). 😁🖤
The Talking Heads occupy a special place in my heart. 💜😊
Live version of Slippery People absolutely awesome! From the movie Stop Making Sense.
Even though my now wife and I weren't huge fans of "art rock" or however you want to categorize them, Talking Heads tapes were on continuous rotation on my car stereo back in high school and college (late 70s-mid 80s)...and we still love them!
My favorite Talking Heads song!
That's all part of the New Wave Music
You two would love Thomas Dolby's She Blinded Me With Science!
Great song and melody and think one of his best! I think I’ve requested this song at least a dozen times, now here we go, the girl on an acid trip!
You want cowbell? Check out Talking Heads live performance of Take Me to the River from their concert film Stop Making Sense.
This is such a perfect little song. I just love it.
Quintessentially mid 80s and just so good!
