The songs on this album "True Stories" are the Talking Heads version of the songs sung by the actors in the "True Stories" movie. That movie was written and directed by David Byrne (the lead singer) and starred John Goodman (the dad from Rosanne), Swoozie Kurtz, etc. It includes the song "Radiohead" which is where the band Radiohead got their name. My favorite song on that album is "City of Dreams". Thanks for reacting to one of my favorite bands!
Yes, the dad from Roseanne, John Goodman, was the guy you recognized. And in case you didn't get some of the folks they were imitating, they had people dressed as Billy Idol, a generic hair band rocker, Kid Creole, a Meatloaf lookalike, Ralph Macchio's character in the Karate Kid, and a Prince lookalike, among others.
Some people were also doing imitations of David Byrne, Talking Head's singer. And I spotted a Samantha Fox and a Debbie Harry imitation as well. And Tracy Ullmann, I'd say.
@@mikerant4135 Kid Creole and Billy Idol were already mentioned in the initial posting. The guy in the yellow suit with the colored shirt and the moustache is not supposed to be Freddie (with 'ie'), he never wore anything like that. And Cindy Lauper is also not in it. Where do you see her ?
Yes guys, that was in fact John Goodman (the dad on Rosanne and sooooo many other great parts such as in The Big Lebowski, Flight, Raising Arizona, and too many others to name).
Okay, hear me out. I've been begging every reaction channels to do it. On your movie channel, you HAVE to do "Stop Making Sense". It's a concert film of the Talking Heads, maybe the best ever made. Heck, even if you don't react to it, just watch it for fun. It's such an amazing show.
Of all the Heads songs you've done, this one is chronologically the last. This is one of my favorite songs by them. Amber, I know you like quirky, and weird 80s songs and videos so I can bet you will like The Escape Club, “Wild, Wild West” …you’re welcome, lol 😆
Since you're getting into Talking Heads, here's the live concert you want: Stop Making Sense. You've got their signature songs Once in a Lifetime and Burning Down the House, some that don't get as much play like Life During Wartime, Psycho Killer, and Naive Melody for a cute, adorable song, and an incredible live performance and stage show. Bonus points: Their keyboard player is Bernie Warrell, who also played with George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic!
The visually innovative "And She Was" video is one of their best. When Michael Jackson saw it, he hired the director to create a video for him with a very similar style.
I agree with Jay that Psycho Killer is my favorite Talking Heads song, but this one is a banger. The lead singer is DAVID BYRNE. Definitely check out "Stay Up Late", "Girlfriend Is Better", "Road to Nowhere" and "(Nothing But) Flowers". So many great songs from this amazing group!
"This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)" is a lot of people's favorite Talking Heads song, and also mine. It's very sweet and different from anything you've heard from them so far.

An '80s classic y'all definitely should check out is, "our house" by Madness. Lots of horns, great bass line, awesome piano, just all around great song
The Talking Heads merged dynamite musicianship with a multimedia approach to create a timelessly creative body of work. It is so cool that 40 years later, people are still trying to figure out their art... they were absolutely genius!
Thank you for this reaction. I love the creativity of Talking Heads. Did you know that one of their videos was exhibit in the museum of art at the film section in NY in 1982 ?? If you can please check the creativity and beauty of the song "I hear you now" of Jon Anderson(vocalist of Yes band) and Vangelis composition...much love to you guys.
You've still got to see some of their live performances, like of the 1983 "Stop Making Sense" tour live performance of their 1979 song 'Life During Wartime." They are really energetic live performers.
That happens to all of us when we first hear a song and we may not be in the right mood for it or have the wrong expectation. We remember "Oh, I didn't like that song". Then later we come back to it in a different mindset and think "This is growing on me" or "Why didn't I like this before?". With that said - Please do more B-52's. They are campy, quirky, light-hearted, funny, & talented. They take their craft seriously but their craft is about just having fun and not being too serious. I'm still perplexed that Jay didn't like "Rock Lobster", lol. A few B - 52 recommendations: "Private Idaho" , "Roam" , "Give Me Back My Man"
One of my favorites from these guys! It is part of the soundtrack of the movie "True Stories" which chronicles life in a small country town. Worth a shot for your movie reaction show. Yes, you did see John Goodman from Roseanne in the video. He is one of the stars of the movie.

John Goodman (from Rosanne/Connors) was in True Stories. You need to do a movie reaction to the Big Lebowski. The 1st time David Byrne is on screen, he's dressed as Ron Marl from Sparks, AKA "your favorite band's favorite band."
Yes Jay, that was John Goodman from Rosanne. He's in the movie too. I needed this today, been struggling with major depression for a long time. Love y'all
This is such a cool band. Unique is the perfect word for them. I do suggest their other song "Road To Nowhere" it was in the film Little Monsters (1987) with Fred Savage and Howie Mandel. The song Amber and Jordan was called "Once In A Lifetime" you may ask yourself...
Time magazine called David Byrne the "Renaissance Man of Pop." I call him a genius. Saw the band in '82, and it still stands as one of the greatest live shows I ever saw ('course, I'd dropped some particularly good acid that night!). My wife knows that if she's stuck for a gift for me, all she needs to do is find something with his name on it that I don't already have, and the decision is made. . .
I believe this video won an award. That's lead singer Jerry Harrison parodying Billy Idol, Kid Creole, Ralph Macchio's character Karate Kid, and Prince. The rest of the band also appears in various costumes where a frantic series of unannounced performers lip sync to the song, imitating such singers as Madonna and Meat Loaf. And yes that is John Goodman in the video before becoming the dad on Roseann.
Hey Jay and Amber, so great to see your reaction to Talking Heads, they truely are another great band of the times. Your comments are so right about never being disappointed with their querkiness, but the music rocks. "This must be the Place" (Naive Melody) is another great listen. Hope to see your reaction to that one soon.
A very underrated band is five for fightings, Superman (its not easy) and 100 years. Really would love to watch your reation to these songs. Thank you for what your doing.
So let's see…that's "Psycho Killer", "Once in a Lifetime", "Burning Down the House", "This Must Be the Place", and this one. A nice sampler. But my two favorites are "Life During Wartime" and "Take Me to The River". The "Stop Making Sense" concert film is a great resource for both. Also: "And She Was", "Road to Nowhere", "Girlfriend is Better" and just so the final album gets some love, "Mr. Jones".

A lot of cameo's in this one: Yes, Rosanne's husband, John Goodman (also a Blues Brother in the sequels), Anne McEnroe (actress), Meatloaf (singer), Tito Larriva (actor), Jerry Harrison (actor)....
First time I saw them live was Heat Wave Festival in 1980 at Mosport Park. I already loved the band when I heard their first album years earlier. Heat Wave was a new wave festival that featured Teenage Head, Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe, the B-52's, the Pretenders, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello and the Clash (who pulled out last second). After the Clash bailed, Elvis Costello got the last spot as headliner. Talking Heads blew Elvis Costello, the Pretenders and everyone else off the stage. This was repeated a couple of years later when they played at the Police Picnic in Toronto. They came on after a number of bands (Flock of Seagulls, English Beat, Joan Jett) and before the Police. Talking Heads blew everyone including the Police off the stage. Their best show was the one they did that was the basis for the movie/album Stop Making Sense. The Toronto version of this show was at Kingswood at Wonderland. It was killer. Everybody has their favourite tune by them. For me, it's easily Slippery People!
This is actually a part of David Byrne's film "True Stories". It takes place in Virgil, Texas (Call it Dallas, because that's where it was filmed), and yes, the movie contains John Goodman, Swoosie Kutz, Spaulding Gray, Pops Staples and a bunch of other folks. It is surreal, funny, full of Southern humor. It was released to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Texas becoming a state, and I have always seen it as a love letter of sorts. I was one of the extras at the North Park Mall where they had the fashion show.
For your next Talking Heads reaction, I would suggest "This Must Be The Place". Do the live version from their "Stop Making Sense" movie. Well actually, any song from that movie (or the entire movie) would be great. It's directed by Jonathon Demme who also directed many Hollywood movies (e.g. Silence of the Lambs).
I went to see "Stop Making Sense" when it played on the Cornell campus back when it was released. I was a graduate student at the time, but, of course, most of the people there were undergrads. The theater transformed into a dance party. By about the third song, the guy sitting next to me asked me if this was all there was to the movie--i. e., was there an actual story to the movie. I said "No, this is a concert film." He got up and walked out. I guess some people are uptight. Yes, you should watch "Stop Making Sense."
@@gizmo5925 I saw it as an undergrad. It was right at the end of the theatrical run and I was the only one in the theatre! So no dancing, but no one walked out either :-)
From the motion picture called True Stories featuring the music of the Talking Heads! A great movie! This movie features David Byrne, Pops Staples and John Goodman in his first role ever! Well worth a movie reaction!
The Talking Heads did a great cover of a classic Delbert McClinton song, Take Me To The River. Perhaps check out that or some of Delbert's recordings like Shaky Ground, Every Time I Roll The Dice, Givin' It Up For Your Love, or Two More Bottles Of Wine.
i am a huge TH fan since early 80's. Saw them play when they first started out. I loved Road To Nowhere and do check out Dabid Byrne with Brian Eno's My Life In the Bush of Ghosts one of my fave early mash-up and electronic sample world music lp's from the early 80's America Is Waiting, Help Me Somebody, The Jezebel Spirit, fantastic funky music

Great review as always! The song "People Like Us" from the movie sung by John Goodman (and the Country Bachelors) is also worth a look at. The official video for "Love for Sale" is exactly what you expect from Talking Heads. Hope they can be reviewed without being blocked.

"This Must Be The Place" one of my personal favorites by the Heads. Check it out.
Yes thats John Goodman
"And She Was".....another great Song/Video !
Swamp, Popsicle, Take Me To The River - their library is so fun and interesting to go through.
you have to react to a live version of 'Life During Wartime' from the Stop Making Sense concert movie.
Yay! So glad you did this one. You might enjoy the movie True Stories featuring the band and a great cast
Yes that was John Goodman from Roseanne as well as other little Cameo appearances.
Great stuff guys. For more Talking Heads, you definitely need to react to the live version of Life during wartime from the Stop Making Sense film.
PLEASE Take me to the River next! (Live is amazing, i usually hate live too)
Take to the river- a very soulful R&B- for them, a un quirky song.
But extremely great song (if I remember it’s a “cover”)
This video (and the movie True Stories) were filmed in 1986; two years before John Goodman was cast as Dan Conner in "Roseanne."
Great song and yes that is John Goodman who played the dad in Rosanne. Plus what Amber never saw that show?? Sacrilege lol
Talking heads! Oh yea!! Very strange and unique band in the 80's. Awesome! Very underrated band
I love them precisely because they mix weird and catchy so well.
More Talking Heads you need to check out next: "Stay Up Late", "Take Me To The River", " Road to Nowhere", and "And She Was"
i am a huge TH fan since early 80's.
"It feels good to (Actually) see you two having a platform like this, So you can have a better understanding of what "TRUE VOCAL ARTISTRY!" was like back in my time during the (80s)...Music is so (Powerful) even to this "THIS!" very day to envoke "INITIATIVE and ACTION!"....(And your reactions are 😂😂😂😂!!! (LOL)
Great review as always! The song "People Like Us" from the movie sung by John Goodman (and the Country Bachelors) is also worth a look at. The official video for "Love for Sale" is exactly what you expect from Talking Heads. Hope they can be reviewed without being blocked.
That was a great song and video. You never knew what they would do next.
Hey guys, love you too. You have to listen to Talking Heads “Road to Nowhere.”
Awesome song awesome harmonies you’ll love it
