Excellent observation. I said the same above. He groomed her and coaxed into trying to get a hotel room to prove her sexual worthiness to him. But, he then just said, we'll go to my house and you can show me. And, he toyed with her a few days, and killed her when she didn't continue playing his game. Or that's how I would have done it. Sorry, of course, if I was a bad man.

I was born and raised in this town...went to the same high school as her but that was in the late 90s. Yorkton is small , not much to do and every young person's dream was to get out and experience something.. anything. That bus "depot" never had cameras and I recall taking the bus back to Yorkton where if your bus rolled in after midnight, the depot would be CLOSED! So you had to be prepared to have made arrangements for someone to pick you up or have change to call a cab from a payphone outside. I don't blame her for wanting to expand her horizons and see "what else is out there". Unfortunately, I think she encountered the wrong person and had a nefarious ending. Thanks for covering this case, Dr. G.

@@korneliusjansen542 She was waiting at the restaurant for a couple of hours texting and making phone calls. She appeared to be looking for someone to come pick her up. I'm sure the guy was full of excuses of why he wasn't there yet. He may have even been driving by the restaurant and decided that it was too risky to pick her up there, so he told her to go to the bus depot and take a bus to Regina. That could have been a ploy to lure her away from a business with security cameras. He may or may not have known the bus schedule. It wouldn't have mattered either way because if she did catch a bus to Regina he could have followed it back to that city and abducted her there instead. I'm guessing that he abducted her somewhere near the bus depot. I don't know how Mollie knows what the abductor knew or didn't know (no security cameras at the bus depot?) but he may have known that or just lured her away from it instead. So far he's gotten away with her murder. That was almost 7 years ago. He's probably a serial killer and will eventually get caught and they may be able to connect him to this disappearance (they only suspect these types of other murders but unless they confess - very few do - they have no proof in most of these cases).

Isn't it more likely that she met some random guy (maybe a very young fellow) online and made all these plans that kept falling through because he was, in fact, too young to accomplish them? She kept waiting and watching, and even checked on a bus ticket but, ultimately, when he couldn't get to her as "planned" (maybe more wishful thinking on her part than actual intention on his), she decided to hitchhike to him. THEN she encountered a bad actor. This hypothetical "man" derives only from a friend's statement that Mekayla claimed "a man" was coming to meet her (which simply doesn't sound like the way girls talk. "A guy" would have been more natural) and Dr. Grande's rather tenuous suggestion of her "lack of a reliable male figure in her life."

It was a guy in his late twenties and his friend, I think they may have been meth heads. She went to a couple of different areas and at some point they saw a car on the shoulder of the interstate and they stopped to steal the sound system from that car which didn't fit in the trunk or something like that so she had to ride in the trunk and they saw the man walking down from the nearest exit with a gas can yelling at them so they piled in and I guess the angry guy threw something that broke a window or something like that then they stopped somewhere and before they left the cops intercepted them and they found her. She was like 3 states away. I met her the next year and she never told me about it until 15 years later. Crazy stuff. I think that she was lied to and told that $5k was going to be deposited in her account, and when she realized it was a not real she then started making strange decisions and doing things that were “out of character”….I just can’t understand what made her feel like she couldn’t just go back home and move on with her life. So that makes me feel like she was possibly very embarrassed to go back home and face her peers after she made those claims of having all that money and running away for a life of riches and luxury, etc.
She probably felt so embarrassed because she didn’t really have any true friends to begin with, and would only be seen as even more of a “weirdo” for lying about the money. So that tells me she was most likely catfished and truly thought she was running off and starting a new life with this handsome and rich mystery man, only to be let down when the mystery man turned out to be some old and creepy loser with no money.

When something like this happens, we’re just waiting for the body to turn up. The spectrum of associates one meets online goes from confused grandma to homicidal maniac. This is not a bell curve. Check the comments section of any news outlet. Crazy! Just discovered your channel and was pleasantly surprised to see you cover this!! I work with mekaylas mom and was talking with her when she got word mekayla was not at school when her grandmother went to pick her up. Her mother immediately left work as this was not normal for her. There was word she had two phones. Your assessment is the same as most people around here, she at times had a low self esteem and most believe she was groomed by some creep. I personally think this guy was making her run all over town to make sure no one was watching her. I believe he or they were directing her on what to say and do all day to throw people off. There was a large sum of cash in her home in case of emergency and that was untouched. She left everything behind. Her dad is a deadbeat who came out of the woodworks to cause her mother more pain and issues. Mekayla played piano and was a good big sister. The family has never been the same (obviously) and we don't feel the police are even looking anymore. I can't imagine having no answers and I see mekaylas mom daily. I don't know how she keeps trucking along. Thank you so much for bringing attention to this. Mekayla would be 23 today and still no answers. April 12th will be 7 years. 😢. Her mother is a lovely lady and so is her grandmother and siblings. This was a horrible err in judgement for mekayla that did not end well. She didn't even like going for sleepovers. She would not have left on her own for this long. Also, Regina rhymes with vagina fyi 😂

In my opinion, she's dead. I thought that from the get-go. What gave me the indiction, is that she was trying to obtain some extra money and asking for assistance in getting a hotel room. She wanted that possibility (or the man encouraged and/or groomed that out of her) for her to please him and show him that she was worthy. Then, he'd take her away to a better life. Instead he absconded with her, and he killed her for whatever reason he could find for doing that.

This story is so heart breaking!
I think why "the guy" couldn't pick her up is because he isn't who she thinks he is. She wouldn't get in the car with some dumpy crazy man because she thinks he's a good looking
young man. He lured her step by step right into his lair only to unalive her. I can't imagine the horror of walking through a door and realizing you were so deceived. It makes me feel sick to my stomach!
If some guy told me to take my phone apart so NOBODY can trace me I'd say "kiss my a**" and "goodbye." I wish she had noticed the red flag but being sweet, young and naive she trusted what he told her.

these guys plan to kill, but they do so, so their not reported to the Cops. If this

Can you please cover the disappearance of Denny Poole? He was a Native American 15 year old boy in Dawson Creek BC Canada who tried to walk to the next town several hours away to meet up with a girl he met online. He took a friend with him. Part way there a passerby called the police about boys acting "suspiciously" but when they got there they could only find the boy who'd been with Denny. There have been massive searches but Denny has never been found. And his story has received almost no coverage since he's an indigenous kid from a small town in Canada. I have a theory about this case: she met a man online and sent them photos that were “compromising”. They blackmailed her that they would publish the photos online unless she agreed to meet them at a specific time and place- essentially running away from home. And they would likely have convinced her that her life would be in no immediate danger but she likely understood that this was incredibly risky. They would also most likely promise to take care of her. Either that, or they threatened to harm her family and/or friends if she didn’t agree to run away. And now, she is either not alive or has been trafficked.

I think this happens in a lot of these cases. I don't think a lot of these
men plan to kill, but after what they've done, they realize there's only 1
way to make sure. If there was a serial killer loose, he would have kept
on killing. I also think she's likely dead, but you don't know for sure ?

Actual Police hat tried already everything to potential come in posession of protocols but unfortunately the apps back in the days only saved protocols for this and this time and some dont even save anything and when the police finally hat offical permission to force the protocols they were already gone. Another thing is, that on the CCTV-Footage she appears to phone to someone but these calls were never noticed in the protocols regarding her phone. When she is not pretending to talk to someone, it is very likely she posessed a secret second phone (propably an advise from the person she talked to) that the police can't track without knowing the number. The case is defacto cold since then, because all hints, that were given since are dead ends.

If Mekayla is still alive she would be over 18 years old now. If her relatonship with her mum was bad at the time there could be a good reason for her, as a minor, to just disappear from the radar for some time, but now she would be an adult making her own decisions. Still there’s nothing to be heard from her. I agree with Dr. Grande’s “bad actor” conclusion. Why all this running around, sending a message to a friend that she needs help, then asking a lady to book a hotelroom for her, then going to school telling some friends that she is leaving, the large amount of money she would be having in the bank. It’s very probable this girl was instructed by sb to set up a smoke screen, which would finally lead to her own demise.

My granddaughter got involved with some guy online. I had to go to school to get her because she had been telling her friends she wanted to kill herself. Nobody dealt realistically with what was going on. I am grateful she lived thru her adolecense and into adulthood. The main problem was lack of parental supervision. It is a grave mistake to supervise kids from the point of view that they need their privacy. They don't have to know how closely you monitor them, but you have to do it, even if you can't say anything about a lot of stuff at least you will know (hopefully) when they are in danger.

    • @notsocooldude7720
      @notsocooldude7720 11 місяців тому +2

If you are overbearing with the monitoring it will more than likely cause the kid to be resentful and come up with other ways to hide things from you. Probably better to educate the kid on the dangers of talking to strangers online and tell them about real world examples so they fully understand
