No matter what theory ends up being true, the parents are still at fault for not taking her to a hospital when she was in extreme distress.

I agree 1000% that night I would have taken my daughter to ER just the simple fact she took drugs that made her freak out. I would fear overdose or synthetic drugs but the hospital we would be going as soon as she got into that car!! That doesn't make sense to me.

She went to my school. I didn’t really know her, but she was a grade above me and I remember seeing her around. It’s really surreal, seeing her face on posters around town and knowing that she’s now just another unsolved mystery for people to speculate about.
She should have graduated high school this year. I really hope they find out what happened to her someday so we can all get closure, because it’s bad enough for those of us who didn’t know her and I can’t imagine what her friends and family must be going through.

I am horrified by the lack of action by her father. He is her father. He seemingly left all decisions with step mom. WTF? Their first action should have been take her to the hospital as soon as they saw the state she was in. And certainly after she told them she had ingested a drug.

You have little to no information as to what actually happened. Your opinion means nothing. They would have had her come down and sent her home and then CPS would have tormented that family for years afterwords. All because their child lied to the to go do drugs at a party.

Karlie's odd behavior started before she took the drug. She thought she was being tracked. Frankly, I know somone who has paranoid schizophrenia which started when she was around Karlie's age. She also ran from her family but she was found and treated. I hope Karlie is still out there somewhere.

The way kids are with there phones, it would be a red flag, yet with her suffering with some sort of psychosis, & she said she was afraid of her phone, that makes sense to me that she left it behind! I am a psychologist and cannabis psychosis can happen if it's the first time you have used cannabis or if it's been over a length of time, especially teenagers they are the most affected by smoking cannabis/psychosis, yet to me the way she's behaving the paranoia it could be a bad trip of LSD regardless of whatever has happened there , it would not cause her to go completely missing????????

The last time I tried pot, just a little bit, nothing really seemed to happen. Then I went to bed and about 3am I woke up from a dead sleep with this horrible feeling of panic. Absolutely no reason for it. It lasted about 2 minutes. I'm not sure if the pot had anything to do with it, but it never happened before or since. And I've never smoked pot again. I think some people can just have severe, unpredictable reactions to drugs.

Exactly. I did this for a stranger in Vietnam, who I heard at her hotel room telling a porter that the doctor they sent had touched her inappropriately. She was so distressed so I offered her shelter in my room. She had had her drink spiked at a home visit dinner she had gone on and somehow managed to get back to her hotel room. Then asked for help and they sent a doctor who groped her. Her pupils were so dilated and she was definitely on something. I told her funny stories about me doing drugs and coming down from them as she was really scared she would never come down. I made her laugh and took her mind off the fact she was on drugs. I had had a bad trip long ago, when I was doing stupid stuff and knew what to do. My boyfriend was out drinking with a friend we made but we had three beds in our room and I told her she could stay. I also heard her calling her mum in England, distraught, and so I told her to call her back and I spoke to her. I reassured her by telling her all my details and that I was an Australian High School teacher etc. THEN...I stayed up all night with her!!!! My man returned at some stage and told her he would take care of the guy in the morning. Which he did. She travelled with us for several days until she had her mojo back and I knew she was safe. She was a lot younger than me and a very inexperienced traveller. Most people are not to be trusted but I’m just glad she trusted me, that I was nosey and that she was safe. Sorry for the essay.

I still remember my science teacher from middle school had kept science projects over the years, and when I turned in mine (a DNA strain recreation if you must know) I got to see previous projects from the past classes. Honestly, people want this story to end with a twist but I think it’s much more likely that Karlie got into a state of drug induced psychosis, wandered off and possibly died. She had a history with drugs and due to her age and size, she could’ve easily taken more than she could handle, even if she was experienced. Also, the behavior of her family members is actually not that strange, people can react to trauma in unsettling ways, her stepmom and boyfriend seemingly like the attention, which might make them unsymphatetic but is not a sign of guilt. The changes in their stories could be due to trying to make themselves look better because they mishandled the situation and probably feel bad for not taking Karlie more seriously. The mom attacking the stepmom is even more common, tons of families fall to pieces and start blaming each other after these kinds of events, looking for the person responsible for their loved one’s death. This is a very tragic story for everyone involved and I hope that one day they get the closure they deserve.

Sadly I have seen psychosis happen in people who think they can handle a certain amount, have a break and then expect to use the same amount the 1st time back on, or get bad shit.
1st time, 15 years ago, my brother got his hands on some bad meth, he pulled skin off his arm while he walked almost 20 miles into the foothills, so lucky it wasn't summer. He came out of it and was super scared, he thought he was kidnapped, police helped us figure out by asking farmers in the area and of course found out he walked past all the orchards.
2nd time, 2 years ago this guy(I bbqed, he just stopped by) was stressing about his ex and was eating tabs, I kept asking,
"Hey man, are you sure you aren't over doing it?"
"No I take this much all the time".
2 more tabs later and Christopher Walken dancing through a mall has him freaking out about a gov takeover??
He started getting grabby and violent so i told him to leave. 10pm, he walks out screaming he is God, the neighbors made it worse and I had to call the police ... He couldn't see or hear me but he was seeing someone else. It took 8 police for that 130 pounder and he didn't remember any of it.

If you paid attention then you'd notice that karlie had already been smoking this weird substance previously and even attempted counseling, and she never showed these symptoms before which would be reasonable to not take her to an hospital. This can only mean that the two substances were different and not the usual ones used by normal teenagers, and since karlie specifically said that she smoked the substance, this could only mean that she knew it herself that her behavior was somehow related to this weird substance. Idk how could their parents miss something like that but then again, i feel like there really are very low chances that her disappearnce was caused by her parents as everything that happened after the phone call from the party was told by melissa, which means that she could have easily altered the story from the start to never make her suspicious. My theory is that melissa is responsible for negligence and her disappearance by not taking her to an hospital early on but not directly connected to the disappearance

Immediately I thought why wouldn't her step mom have called the Police and taken her straight to the hospital? As things unfolded and we discover that she had obviously been a substance user before who was suspended from school and in counselling for it, I wondered if it was done to 'protect' the daughter from authorities. I don't know what the laws are regarding children and substance abuse, is there like a 3 strikes and you're out system that would have meant Karlie would have been removed from the family home? Would that have been her 3rd strike? If that's the case you could kind of understand the step mom wanting to deal with it herself. However, why was it left to the step mom? Where is the father in all of this that night? One of them should have been with her at her bedside all night and until she was completely recovered from the intoxication. Another thing is why kids are allowed to continue the lives that have brought them to a bad place - mobile phones, social media, going out with their 'friends'. Going back to when it was first discovered that she was using substances, they need to stop. Cut all ties with all friends until they can weed out the source of the supply. No mobile phone, no social media, no visits to friends, no unchaperoned outings. Everything stops. Call it re-hab. Sad that she was led astray and her parents enabled it. Poo

My sister was diagnosed with schizophrenia as well. But we knew what was going on because my grandmother had it and knew it was genetic and figured one of us would get it unfortunately. She was around 19-20 when it started. She was saying similar things like her shampoo was messed with, someone was trying to poison her and she also kept saying she had diseases like mad cow disease and aids. She was very very paranoid. Medicine and therapy is the only thing that can somewhat help this disease. Thankfully she was never the aggressive kind. More depressive and bipolar kind. Trying to overdose on caffeine pills and having frequent suicide thoughts. I had a son four years ago. She is pretty close with him. And after my son was born , she got a lot better. It wasn’t until he was a little older though. That she got better. They interact a lot and play and I think he is a nice distraction for her. It’s nice seeing him ease her mind and give her something to care and worry about about other then herself and her mental health. I hope one day your brother gets better and stays better. If he isn’t already. It’s the worst mental disease you can have. I wouldn’t wish it on my worse enemy . And it’s also hard having to watch your family member go through it and realize there’s nothing you can personally do for them to help them . Only medicine and not just any meds the right ones and the right dosing and kind, and therapy , can help them. It’s a tricky disease . One that they will forever deal with . It’s truly sad

Excellent comment and so very true.
When I was a young teenager l found myself in SO many situations where I myself could also have disappeared, maybe been taken by someone or attacked at a most vulnerable time.
I didn't have paranoid episodes but I DEFINITELY used substances and put myself many times in situations that could've ended up horribly for me, and for my family too.
Young girls are SO much more vulnerable than they realize at those young ages.
All it takes is ONE evil creep and being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and their lives could change forever and even be over.
As I look back, l THANK GOD so much for protecting me from horrific fates that COULD have happened.
I came through those times more or less okay, and l remain very humbled and grateful for the times l was protected and even other people, my friends or whoever, looking after me to make sure l was okay.
I owe more than one friend, along with God, my undying gratitude for being there for me, a troubled young girl who just wanted to feel happy and alive instead of broken and sad.
I feel so bad for this girl. She really needed help and it's so sad she didn't get it.
Those episodes should have ended up with her being under professional care and she'd still be here. I'm also a deep believer in the power of prayer, the kind of prayer that can actually get people healed or set free of something like paranoia.
I've personally experienced being instantly healed of something that was going to take my life. But God healed me in one moment, and whatever it was, was suddenly GONE, and it was totally AMAZING.
Since then l KNOW what God can do for people and l never doubt Him about it - and this poor girl REALLY needed somebody's strong prayers to help her.
I pray she is still alive and okay somewhere, even though l realize it's unlikely.
God bless, and thanks for leaving such an insightful comment. 👍💯

One minute shes normal the next shes scared the next she wants to paint her toe nails, color in a coloring book asnd read the Bible the next she scared then normal then scared like back and fourth like this in and out all night. I think she did admit she took drugs but what who knows but it made it lose her mind really bad and she went out the house like that when they were asleep and she was getting paranoid and scared again and who knows where she went probably didn't even know halfthe time maybe she roamed to the woods or mountains I know they have a lot of mountains loins there that have attacked people and try to killl them and coyotes and bears ect. When I was 16 I had a really bad mental breakdown, not drug induced but from just pure paranoia. It came to the point where I was convinced I was going to die from something bad happening to me, i would wake up my parents to ask them to pray for me for a few nights. Whenever i stood still I would be afriad to let my heartbeat lower, so i would shake in place to raise it. .Eventually I got out of it, but noticed the toll it had on me the years following because I still have a hard time with trust even with myself... But with that being said, since drug were already introduced to her and she was already experiencing crazy amounts of paranoia. I feel as though to stop them she probably went to great lengths to do so. Fear is one of the greatest emotion (since we relied on it so much for survival) our brain has its own section called the amygdala and it can alter a persons perception and personality due to events that occur.... maybe shes living in a different life as someone else maybe her paranoia never went away ..... I hope she gets found.

You can be sure you are walking in the right direction and walk miles and miles into the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately this happens more then anyone would likely admit. Coming back to this case again after several months, and I think I actually have a super plausible theory as to exactly what might have happened that night. I actually heard this from a comment on another video. They think that before Karlie left to go to the "party", the parents and step mom gave her something that was laced before she left, so that when she was smoking at the party, it would activate and cause her to have her episode. Then, when they brought her home, Melissa recorded her to show her what she was like on drugs, with the intent to show her how much they messed with her head like she had said. The whole thing was a set up to get Karlie to freak out and essentially scare herself from smoking again, after her long break, but it ended up going too far and accidentally killing her that night. That would explain why they didn't take her to the hospital, why Melissa texted Donald about the pot being laced, as a way to make it seem like the "laced" drug had come from the party, and why they're acting all strange and scrambling their stories because they're guilty of letting her die. It was Melissa that was seen walking around the next morning. It was just a plan that had gone terribly wrong, and now they came up with the missing story to get the suspicions off of them. That's also why there are so many discrepancies between stories.
Could still be wrong but when you think about it, it certainly sounds very obvious. I really hope more people read this because it's the most believable theory I've heard yet.

When I was 15 I smoked weed (maybe laced) before a party and had a complete psychotic break. Sounds exactly like she was going though - waves of rationality with waves of panic. It was freaking awful. Scariest night of my life. Since then I have suffered from panic disorder - panic attacks maybe every few days.

@@marinahernandezgonzalez3495 Yeah. Because of that, I am now a firm believer that marijuana shouldn't be smoked until your brain is fully developed - I believe the age is 25. After that, smoke away! I wish I didn't smoke weed back then... I really feel like it fucked with my brain somehow and is the root cause of my mental illnesses.

Just like people high on drugs or paranoid from edibles, doesn't take long for them to come down from it. Not something to worry about, just keep an eye on them to make sure they stay put and don't hurt themselves or do anything stupid.

She didnt stay put and she did do stupid things. Did you not watch properly. Shes gone, no one kept an eye on this distraught girl. Omg. Wow great hindsight. Every thought about that the parents couldn't handle the situation because they never had something like this?
They don't know its a psychosis or paranoia at that point and just try to calm her down.
So cringe seeing all these people here making bad accusations and judgements.
