Episode 8 of my Parkrun road trip sees myself and housemate Charlee drive down to Southend for a 5k parkrun in our new Nike Alphafly Next% that we picked up in the black Friday sales. Really enjoyed the 3 lap course which was completely flat and made for a fast sub 16 minute 5k. The Harvester next to the finish line carpark was too hard to resist. If you enjoyed the video please leave a like and comment down below where we should head next!

You were in the top 10 parkrun times for whole country this Weekend Ben. Not sure if you realised. Well done!! Eden project in Cornwall has restarted now BTW.
Ben: "parkrun isn't a race".
Also Ben: "The winning streak continues"
LOL
Shhhhhh

Hi ben, great run. Starting to take running seriously for the last few months I got a PB (26:18) this weekend at parkrun. Thanks for all the continued inspiration
Great job! Hope you continue to enjoy your training and I’m sure many more pbs will come your way :)
Amazing running Ben, I haven’t ran a parkrun properly in a while but I just want to say you’re running technique is really good, Ive adapted it and really helps conserving energy and within the last few months I went from around 28 minutes to sub 21, currently pushing sub 20 hopefully I can get it next time around but you’ve helped improve my running so much. Thank you 🙏
That’s some great improvements! Keep working hard and you’ll get under 20mins in no time :)
What’s the main changes you made to cut your time down that much??
@@stueym5448 to be honest, I never took running seriously before. I was really young like 10 years old when I used to get around 30 mins but now I am nearly 17 years old, and just naturally grew up which helped. However I am now running during the week lots and joined a running club so In summary: it’s just doing running more often which helps
@@stueym5448 only till a few months ago did I then take it seriously
I've only started watching your videos recently and I'm from Southend (though I now live up North) so I had to watch this video!! I only started jogging in October and just did my first park run in Chalkwell when visiting my family a few weeks ago. It's a nice out and back route along the seafront, I absolutely loved it, and at a steady pace I got my PB of 36:36!
I did Southend parkrun in 2017 on my only(so far) visit to the UK. Friendly people and a fast course. I was surprised and interested in all the history there at Shoeburyness, not just WW2 gun emplacements, you run around, but Viking, Roman and stone age history there as well. A fascinating place.
What a coincidence. I saw the ww2 remains but had no idea. Thanks for informing me. Really enjoyed the course :)
Great video Ben. The fact you can still run at that pace in those conditions is impressive. I ran 2 and a half minutes slower than my pb on Saturday but it was one of my most enjoyable parkruns so I can't complain!
Conditions were actually pretty good. The finishing straight was the only sketchy section but other than that was fine. Would recommend this one :)
@@BenIsRunning wish I could say the same about the one I was at 😂
My old manor 👊 Unbelievable speed bro it’s scary you are a machine and shout out Charlie good lad that’s proper rapid as well
Cheers Fordy! What a course. Don’t get many parkruns that are as flat and 95% pavement. Charlee is my Toby ;) Do you recommend any other parkruns that way. Have you done the chalkwell beach one? Thinking of giving that one a try
Time for more Parkrun domination and PRs and course records! Ben = Parkrun KING.... long live the KING
😂 thanks Alexander 👊🏻
Rickmansworth is a pretty fast route if you can get down here, Ben. Barely any elevation and all tarmac.
I love the way you talk so casually about your amazing times! My best is a shade under 30 mins, but I am 66!
Brilliant, but can you do a 5k in the slippers? (runners equivalent of a cold rainy night in Stoke?)
Hi Ben - you need to try Huntingdon Park Run - There’s a local runner called David Hudson who wins it every week running in the 16’s, I think you two could have a good battle :)
Always inspiring Ben! Well done on your sub-16. Always welcome to Ashford, Kent Parkrun. We need a new course PB 😊👍
Well done mate 👍🏻 Smashed it!!
I was one of the volunteers who scanned your finishing position. Hopefully someone has managed to keep hold of the missing top too!
Thanks Lee, nice to meet you :)
You defo gotta do kings lynn it’s all tarmac 3 laps fast course you’d smash it
Great running lads! Loving this series, did my first parkrun last weekend, I've definitely been missing out.. managed to break 19 for the first time 💪
Thanks Michael! Great job 👊🏻
You should try the Oldbridge Park run in Drogheda Co-Louth Ireland. Not far from Dublin.Cross country.
Amazing time, Valentine's parkrun in Ilford 500th run this Saturday
That sounds like a good one to attend :)
Clare Castle ParkRun is a good scenic run. You run pass a ruin castle and also along the river, also the coffee shop is next to the finish line 👌. Also less than an hour from Chelmsford!
Worth a look Ben. Keep up the good work, the channel is great.👍
Great running. Someone send Ben lots of long sleeve tops he can scatter around at park runs 😅
I’m always losing them 😂
Well done Ben! Congratulations on another first finisher at parkrun, excited to see where you end up next weekend! Cheers, Scott🤓
Thanks for you continued support Scotty! Hope your trainings going well :)
It’s so weird, I don’t race that often anymore, but I still get pre-race nerves when watching people before their race lol
You need to give the congleton park run a try in cheshire. It's brilliant.
if you get the chance, definitely do some Belfast Parkruns! love the vids :)
Thank you michaela, would love to visit one day
I live in Belfast and just got my Parkrun ID.. might see you there one day 😊
Someone stop this man, winning (1st finishing) machine 🤣👍🏼
Come to Raphael park in Romford, it's a fast course all on pavement , up and down but a beautiful park.
Awesome sauce is made here !!! Epic showdown as usual
Thanks Fabian! We’re thinking of doing a 5k whilst dribbling a football
Great running Ben (and Charlee), was nice to meet you both!
Thanks George 👊🏻
Well done Ben and Charlie 💪 Football players have great stamina
Thank you
Great running Ben. I would love to get under 20 mins. My pb is 22.21 ( age isn't on my side, I'm 47).
Can I surgest you come to sunny lowestoft (the most easterly parkrun in GB) if you havnt already.
New subscriber here to see if I can pick up any tips.
It would be great to see you at endcliffe park run sometime!
Great run! We need to step up our breakfast game here in the U.S. That breakfast looked delicious. Sorry about the shirt
Thanks Ira! The breakfast certainly made up for the lost shirt :)
Congratulations on running so fast AND carrying a GoPro. Inspirational 15:58
Nice to meet you on Saturday Ben. Even if I was a couple minutes behind you.
Likewise Sean! Great job, lovely course that :)
What a great run Ben - I'm so sorry about your shirt though! Get yourself another lovely shirt as a present for yourself for all the hard work you've been doing.
Thanks Ken. Yes it was a shame and I think that sounds like a good idea :)
Amazing!!
Smashed it mate. 19:10 a time worth shouting about too :)
Thanks jake. Yeah charlee did great
No worries mate,Saysky will have a really nice box in the mail🤓
Oh I hope so, gutted about that. My favourite long sleeve for warm ups /)
you need to try hadleigh it’s deadly
Ben when are you gonna run against some REAL competition, eg, Boston Marathon, NYC Marathon, ANY Half Marathon? How about the London Marathon?
1st finisher you get a breakfast.. i better get training cause that looks amazing! 😂
Yeah completely free ;)
I use a new empty garbage bag with a hole for the head... Instead of loosing a long sleeve :) Hope it helps for your next races.
Incredible run! I Hope to get under 20 minutes one day :). Lots of people recommend running a mile or so to warm up, but I guess that’s not needed?! What are your thoughts on it?
did you guys not warm up?? Like just rock up and run sub 16?!!
Great time 👍🏃🏻♂️ just bought the same Alphafly’s as yourself for £156 not sure they will make me sub 16 minutes though 🤣
You never know ;)
Hi Ben Amazing times do you think you can train for a fast park run on a treadmill, keep up the good breakfasts.
100%, treadmills are going to be key for me with my winter training :)
@@BenIsRunning Thanks I'll keep up the training then .
I want to get under the sub 19k but not used the alphas yet. Would you recommend them for a 5k? I hear mixed reviews
Give Burnham on Crouch a go, not fast but great views and scenery.
New shoes and puddles 😱
I know it’s a crime. But I didn’t bring a spare pair 😂
Next challenge between footballer & runner… beep test!
Now that would be intresting ;)
another good parkrun, great running Ben
Thank you Ian :)
Ben, we need to talk about those slippers… 😉😂
Excuse me! What’s wrong with my trusty slippers 😂
Cracking video , I love watching your videos they have motivated me to get back into running , have you got any tips for someone who's trying to get back into running but struggles eith distance?
Get down to your local parkrun and try to chip away at your time week after week :) setting a goal always keeps me motivated
@@BenIsRunning thank you for the advice 🙏
Great running!!
Thank you lee!!
Great running guys
Thanks Jon
I’m working towards sub 20
Just hit pb of 23:06 a few weeks ago
Keep up the good work
You inspired me to start Parkruns. Two so far. 22 minutes with my youngest son, then 18:53 solo last Saturday. My son is a national level gymnast, so anything over 30 metres is long distance to him... 🤣
Great stuff! Parkruns are life changers so hope you enjoy your weekly Saturday parkruns from now on :)
Did you get the shirt back though
I didn’t :(
Ben can we run with Alphafly on stand?
Come to Guildford! We’ll have a meet up
Would love too! Going to try and visit fellow youtubers locals in the new year so I’ll let you know :)
@@BenIsRunning amazing!
