The Byxbee Parkrun course is deceptively slow. It is a double out and back and has 3 hairpin turns plus four pretty sharp corners. It's in a beautiful area of the Baylands shoreline. A municipal airport is nearby and small plans are often taking off. The course is all loose gravel, which is slow and chews up supershoes. If the timing doesn't work out for Byxbee, the Dolphin South End Runners puts on races with a $10 entry fee ($5 for members) most weekends in SF. This weekend, they have a 10k trail race from the Beach to the Golden Gate Bridge overlook in the Presidio. That course is massively hilly and slow. It's not uncommon for their courses to have a ton of elevation gain. They have a 5k road race with 500 feet of elevation gain.
Spencer, I love the new series. Keep doing what you want to do. I just retired from the rat race of the working world. Keep doing what you love as long as you can.
Absolutely amazing!! Congrats When I saw the first local legend video I thought it was cringe BUT now I see it is great! Congratulations on your new vision for the channel and your running So happy for you Seth
Big improvement and good series. Course records are always icing on the cake. One thing missing is prize money. Gotta get that to upgrade your legend status
I’m going to keep selling North Bay, Ontario, Canada Park Run. Course record is 16:30. A mostly flat out and back. Bit of a drive from the West Coast though! Great video again.
Another you could try is the Des Moines Creek Park Run. It’s another out and back but the first half is a slight incline the whole way which allows for a super fast entirely downhill second half
Great race spencer!! Sub 16 next week for sure!! Are we going to see other distances in the local legend series? (10k, half marathon, etc) or just sticking to 5ks and parkruns? Either way I’m really enjoying the series and what you do next!
Quite interesting content. Love this break from “serious running”. Your fans/viewers are the beneficiaries of your time off. At some point, I predict You’re going to get tired of becoming a “local legend” and get the itch to compete in some more competitive events while everyone else is focusing on the trials.
Yo if you’re in the Seattle area you should totally come smash the course record at fort ward parkrun over on Bainbridge island just a 30 min ferry ride from Seattle! Super flat and a super beautiful spot! My friend Greg Nance helps put it on, he just recently ran across the country starting in New York and ending in Seattle, could be great for an interview 😅.
Great running, particularly with the head wind/ I almost wonder if you would have been 5-10 seconds slower on the first mile if that would have led to breaking 16. Maybe not as you crushed the last mile and change. Great improvement. Maybe some longer distance to build even better cardio along with your great track workouts, and I think the number for you later this year might be the low 14 minute range?
No spoilers, I'm going 15:54 for my prediction. Edit: Hey I was close, also 16:01, sub 16 for sure next time, and that 3rd mile speed was ridiculous after running a 10:30 2 mile man! You'll be back to sub 15 before you know it, before even I know it! XD Seriously though, keep it going man, you got this!
Yo Spencer hope you see this. Better help is a horrible company to take sponsorship from. They have done a lot of shady things in the past. Including selling private information to big companies like Facebook. So please be careful who you choose to have sponsor ya.
I’m not Spencer but I used a Hal Higdon training plan to get under 22:30 for the first time ever. That and running to the point of feeling like death… then doing that for 4 more KMs!
Nice video and very impressive performance! I wish you would remove/replace the "slap"-sound effect when showing split times etc. though. It's very loud and not pleasant to listen to.
Great interesting in the uk the records have been removed which is massively controversial and pissed the keen parkrunners off. Some have 500.its flipping huge parkrun
They removed records here too. It takes a lot of digging to figure out course records. And it is nearly impossible to figure the age group or age graded lists. I haven't been to a PR since that stupid (IMO) decision was made.
@@wardfreeman7533 it was ridiculous a few friends of mine are gutted about the vets times and records.it was just with Spencer mentioning the records I though they were still a thing. Thanks for the info happy running
How do you know? didn't they stop showing times of other people on the website? i hope they don't make you disappear so the slower people don't get disheartened by others being faster. beginners should see who the slowest are for a track, if they can do it on a sunday they know they can join in no problem. I don't think the website even shows that now. Karens in charge if i'm not wrong.

To be fair he is talking about his standards (He has a low 14 minute 5k for his pr so for him sub 18 is out of shape) but yeah in general sub 18 for a 5k is not slow by any means. I have a 19:21 5k time as a sopohmore in high school and sub 18 feels pretty far away.
Yo It’s Roman. It was nice meeting you man 🤘🤘
No replies?? Expect me
Yo Roman we met after the mile in pasco, did not expect to see you in an athlete special video lol, hope your doing well man
wow whoever filmed this one did incredible. The footage is just A+ all around wow
Lol! Great Job, Will

"I started this series completely out of shape"
*me with a 19:50 5k PB 😭
Room to improve, but that’s pretty good (better than me)
bruh me with a 48 minute 5k (i was like 8 tho lmao i'll run one later this year)
If he is out of shape I dont know what am I. I'm 36 and finished my 1st 5K in 38:26 (2023) and 2nd 5K in 38:58 (2024).

Hey Spencer, loving this content. I really like when you interview other people about the 5k and ask them about the event/themselves!
Dude this series has been awesome. Great to see you gettin back in shape
Im honestly loving this series.
this has been so much fun to watch and witness!! Got me motivated to want to win some races again! Thanks Spence!
Those videos of the parkruns are awesome man. Extremely enjoyable
100% agreed. He's hit on a winning content formula.
Spenc, these local legend videos have been really fun to watch. Nice work!
I almost ran this one as it's only a few minutes from my work, but i went climbing instead. Maybe it will rain next week and I'll give it a wack.
If the videos can help get people in the US out on a Saturday morning then you will have done a great job Spencer
Congratulations on your course record Spencer! I’m really enjoying the local legend series.
Epic run, Spence! You're putting the local legend on every park run =D Looked like a beautiful place to run too.
Great series to watch after a track meet!

They banned Parkrun course records here in the UK ! :0[
Same in Poland lol they wanted to be so includive so bad they’re now excluding competitive runners in a way
Same in the U.S. Spencer had to do some digging to determine what the 'record' was.
Parkrun is huge in South Africa! Come do a few here!

Spencer TCB every Park Run. Stanford may be a tough one if alumni show up.
