Great install video!! I just put my Bakflip MX4 on my 2021 Tacoma TRD. The instructions that come in the box are horrible and misleading. The instructions on their website are a lot better but this video is by far the best.
Hell yeah bro this video just helped me feel confident about putting this bed cover on my 22 Tacoma TRD 4x4 6 speed manual. I bought it off of OfferUp at 8:30 p.m. on the other side of town drove home had it installed by 11:00 p.m.
A BIG THANKS, I ordered the same thing from Real Truck, shipment was great and timely, BUT, they included the WRONG instructions and a lady on the phone was absolutely NO help. Thanks again, great video
So what keeps water from leaking in with the giant gaps that were cut out of the plastic moulding covering the top of each side of the bed where the "mounting posts" are? Trying to install this for a neighbor on a 2016 that has/had the factory tonneau cover and there no chance of a water tight seal. :(
My cover is leaking water. Where can I get the replacement rubber hinge covers? I just bought mine and at least two of those strips have been cut shorter for some reason now it leaks water.
Dumb question unrelated to the cover…what is that blue called? Tryin to match hues of blue for some custom decals…Heritage Blue, and Voodoo blue and whatever that blue is…Blue Crush Metallic? Toyota has a bunch of blues 🫠
Any tips to get more waterproof? Mine leaks and i get water in the truck bed... i mean, is not tons of water but say is parked or in motion while raining, i would get about 10% water leaked and not safe to leave stuff in the truck bed that needs to be dry because it will get wet if directly touching the truckbed. Any tips to avoid that?
Does anybody know where I can buy or order the metal clamps being installed at 7:22? I've looked up metal clamps for BAK mx4 and i haven't seen anything similar to that. I bought it used and its missing those clamps to keep my tacoma rails. Asking for HELP!!!
Whatever you do, *BE CAREFUL* if you drill through the bottom of your bed for the drainage!! I nicked my fuel intake filler neck and leaked gas all over the place next time I went to fill up 😞. Luckily it only set me back $600 but could've resulted in safety issues. I feel pretty dumb/lucky in hindsight, but please exercise caution if you try to DIY. FWIW the dealership admitted this happens to them on a regular basis when they install tonneau covers; nice knowing it's not just me.
If Bak Industries had a twist knob on their MX4 cover, I would have bought one... I'm not a fan of plastic rivets either with glued on bars, but really like the design of the MX4... I decided to go with the Extang Xceed instead because of the twist knob that helps with deterring theft.
@@ronmurphy4234 No, my stock tie down rails are not messed with at all as the Extang cover is secured by the top of the bed with clamps that come with the cover. Not only that, Extang Exceed uses a turn knob for the very first panel in the rear, so theft is much harder. All the rest of the panels are pull cords, but the very last panel where the tailgate is uses a turn knob. I've never had any problems with the construction at all to date and no leaks, but I did use silicone on the front bulkhead to reduce any possible leakage.
Just got mine in the mail, i didn't see an install of the bulkhead seal on here. Was that an accidental omission or just leaving it out of your installs?
In the brief scenes when he his up by the bulkhead, I don't see it on there, just the stock bulkhead with the side seals. I think they didn't. Did you ever find out?? Bout to install mine
Mine didn’t come with those little square things that go at the end of the square bar. Is it suppose to help moisture seal. If so what are they called so I can order them.
I noticed that on all these covers, you don't need a bar... just a coat hanger. The stock Toyota one has a handle for unlocking, but lacks security on the front bolt.
@@JV-zc4kh So...not sure where Martin got his info but at least for the Tacoma version of this you still have to move the rails and they are fully functional. Source: bought one in November and ive spent a few hours with customer support complaining about false information.
@@yezkaholic I like mine though i got it on sale for $700. The sides of it that the latching mechanism attaches to are quite flimsy so I can't just drop it closed like they do in most videos. I have to drop and then push which i guess isn't a big deal. If i could do it over I would probably go a different route just because you have to move the rails which makes it almost impossible to find a bed rack that is compatible.
This video will save you frustration, heartache and time. Throw away the printed installation instructions, they are worthless. You will have your cover installed in well under an hour. Have fun!
Diamondback definitely worth it if you have the money even the SE is still $1600 i just ordered a mx4 but down the road going to get the diamondback hd
@@redshift2026 Yeah that's fair. Its about a 15 minute process to take my SE off and 25 to put it on. I store all kinds of stuff in it that I'd never store under another cover though.
Once its out of warranty & the rubber hinges split (7 years) your stuck spending another $800 bucks on a new cover. Bakflip just informed me thats not a replaceable part. Funny cuz they just slide in & out after the side rubbers removed. RIP OFF!
These covers will last two years. The deck material is OSB (or similar) with aluminum sheet bonded to each side. The hardware for the latches is RIVETED to the deck material. Eventually, water finds it's way into the deck panels. Then they get very heavy and the latch bars start falling off. So, that's what? $600 per year? Good luck!
My god whatever you do stay away from this brand for a Tacoma...that square seal on the ends of the front rail might as well be a screen door...it does not work. Your bakflip is a 100% waterproof
I am going to try this on my 2024. I think the process should be very similar. I hope. Thank you for this video. You make it look super easy!
The whole reason I watched this was to watch the complete drain hose install
Excellent explanation. So much better than reading the instructions!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching! -Zach
This was a great instruction video. I just put mine on today and your video was perfect. Took about 35 min in my driveway. Good stuff.

Just breezes through the back bed rail removal and reinstall. You owe me 15 mins of life

Will this tonneau cover work with the body armor 4x4 overland bed rack?
With the relocation of the factory rails will the factory cargo divider still work with the lowered rails?
Great advice

I noticed that on all these covers, you don't need a bar... just a coat hanger. The stock Toyota one has a handle for unlocking, but lacks security on the front bolt.
They changed the design of the MX4 for 2019 and now it covers the rail system instead of moving it down.
