I just had mine delivered, putting it on tomorrow. I’m pretty sure that second rubber washer underneath should have been up against the underside of cover.
Thanks, my son has one on his Ram. I borrowed his truck one day, and I could not figure out how to open up the Bakflip. Thanks to your video. I was able to open the thing up by pulling the strings at the back of it.
I hate to break it to you but for security, forget it. I have another brand identical to this. I was recently broken into with my soft tonneau cover sliced open and thousands of dollars of gear stolen so I purchased a locking one just like this one and found how to get into it in less than 5 seconds. They are easier to get into than slicing a soft top. The cables are easily jimmied to get into. I made a blocking angle piece to not allow getting into and will be doing more to secure it even more. Just a heads up.
@@steves4475-9 I cut a 1 1/2" piece of Aluminum angle to fit around all the brackets and screwed it in underneath blocking ant access to the cables. Although not a perfect way to secure but not able to get to the cables to open. Also going to put locking latches in ahead of the spring latches.
Thank you for your excellent video on the bakflip mx4. I recently bought a 2023 Maverick with the factory installed version of this product. Your video was very imformative in that it showed me that the factory product had not been installed exactly as it should have been (the panel assembly was too far forward and allowed just a slight gap between the end panel and the top of the tailgate. Your video showed me that it could be slid back enough to fully cover the bed in a much drier manner. Well done!
Agreed, great accessory for many reasons. I was torn between the panels (MX4/F1) and the Revolver X4S. Decided on the X4S for my needs, but they make great products and I am very pleased with the purchase. My only issues was fitting the rails with a low enough torque so they didn't warp, even at 10ft/lbs they didn't sit level. I think just under the specification is where I ended up.
Hey I wouldn’t even think that this would become a issue. Glad you brought it up. I’m wondering how close the BakFlip hard cover compared to the Gator hard cover?
You might get a little water intrusion if you dont use those other rubber washers on top of the cover. Top bolt > rubber washer > cover > rubber washer > bracket > metal washer > lock washer > star nut
@@stuwie31 The back corner plastic pieces have come off, flew off going down the highway. Could be a better design. They gave me replacements under warranty though. Very back edge starting to delaminate, so it’s definitely not going to last five years, so at some point I’ll be retesting their warranty.
So you had the best step by step install instructions for the truck bed cover on your truck , better than others so thanks … like to see any other MODS you have for truck if you did them? I have GMC
I had 4 of the mX4 and loved them.. and just got another … unfortunately I believe they were bought out and they revamped the cover and cheapend it… Last one I will ever buy… never had a problem torquing to the ten lbs… one bracket cracked and another bent🤦🏻♂️
the cover looks nice and i had no water issues. but the only reason i will not be putting one on my 24 truck the panels don't hold up. meaning it dents really easy. from setting things on it or even a little hail. it gets little dimples all over it. the panels need to have heavier aluminum.
As an owner of the MX4 since 2018 I agree with the denting and will be getting the F1 most likely next time as it's composite and holds up better to damage
They are nice, but... and it is a big one. Until they can handle more weight on top Then the second major issue is folded up they 100% block the rear window. Both of these are 'no go's' on this style.
I believe these panels top/ bottom are aluminum. As opposed to fiberglass reinforced PVC or PVC. I would be concerned about denting from hail or fallen branches etc.
Hoping that you have better luck with your MX4 than I’ve had with my two F1’s. I recently did a review on everything wrong with the F1. Mainly hoping you don’t incur the water retention issue in the panels after time. Mine used to be a one-handed operation in opening and closing the panels, not no more lol. Also if you ever get sick of having the drain tubes in the way of your cargo, I shorted mine and used the holes in the side of the bed seen at 15:49 of your video. Hope that helps 👍
So far been very pleased with the mx4. Bed and interior of the cover stay dry as a bone during washes and inclement weather. Thanks for the tip on the drain tubes!
@@sundayadickson so the original was from 2015 and they sent me the replacement in 2017. I know the 2017 was a newer version because with that one, I was able to close the tailgate with the cover in the down position. I couldn’t do that with the original. Also the changed the design of the prop rods. The reason I know is that BAK sis not send me new side rails with the replacement covers and the rods in the rails do not work with the updated cover.
This brand and model was on my short list, but I didn't like how it folded up and blocked the view out the back window. So I went with Peragon. The panels and can easily be fully removed to allow access to the whole bed and the back window and view is not blocked..
Look at Bison out of Canada $679 Canadian for a product better than the BAK and less than half the price. I just replaced a BAK that died after 2.5 years.
Might need a tonneau but not necessarily this model. Not everyone will need the entire bed and if so, most other covers come off with the removal of four knobs and that take a minute or two.
I’ve had this one for 2 months now and it’s been through lots of rain and car washes and the bed stays perfectly dry. Most times people have issues with it leaking is because of improper install.
Almost a year with mine, never leaked once. Everything stays dry for me. I would suggest making sure all the seals are properly seated and positioned correctly. 9/10 when people have leaking issues, it’s because it’s not installed properly.
Just did a full 14 month update on this cover ua-cam.com/video/PyjieNq9iws/v-deo.htmlsi=9Y6-xMFtzQF2OpGq

I think the extra two rubber washers might go on topside.
It does!
If they do it does not say it in the Directions. I just installed mine 3 Days ago, but it does make sense though. Love mine! 0 Water Leaks.

The bed stays perfectly dry. Been through some crazy storms and not a drop of water gets through.
Is there a way of avoiding the water retention issue in the panels after time? This seems to be the main issue with this BakFlip especially the F1.
I’ve had the Revolver version for a year now. Mostly happy with it.
Can I ask your pros and cons? I’m thinking about getting one.

Many people including myself now have bed cameras so we can see any cargo in the bed when hauling
Now that you have had this a bit, any complaints? Been looking to get one for my f150
Not a single complaint. No leaks at all, no abnormal wear or issues. It’s been fantastic.
At the gate do you have any gap of lime 1/4 of an inch or so ? Or the the lip of the cover sits on the of the gate a 1/4 of an inch or so?
It sits on top of the gate to keep a water tight seal.
Did you look at the G2 model? $100 less but there must be some differences from the MX4
I didn’t really as I was focused in the mx4 as it was the most popular and recommended from friends.
Great video.

When you open just one or two sections will it stay locked?
Yes
I'm thinking about buying one for my Ford Maverick. Did you consider using some blue Loctite to ensure the bolts don't loosen up?
This has been on my truck for a year now and not a single bolt has loosen or come undone. I don’t think loctite is needed for this application.
@@Autofreakgarageare you still happy with your purchase?
Can you do 80 down the turnpike with that flipped up? Serious question
Yep. Been faster with it up and had no issues.

Nope. You buckle the clips so it stays put if you only fold it half way.

What year was your F1? It seems they've improved on it, as I recently watched an 8-year review of the F1, though it was mostly stored in the garage.

After useing it for 3 years it became extremly heavy. I think because it sucked water into.
