I have been nickel plating some small tools and guns/gun parts for sure they won't rust very easily... blue? having blued guns I can tell you that it will rust unless you keep the blue oiled
I am going to have to try nickel plating, I use my tools a lot for work, and so some of my tools I use are used in a sterile environment, so most of my tools stay clean, plus I was taught tools are my life so take care of them, tools for me make me money or save me money!
oh.. blue is actually just rust that has stained a bare metal surface and has been controlled like using 0000 steel wool on it you can see this in old knives that were high carbon steel and are now blue/black cold blue is not as durable as say hot blue or the natural process but in any case get some CLP or make it (I Do) and lightly spritz it on a rag you can keep handy.. Don't ball up the rag of course since the solvents might cause spontaneous combustion.. I have never had a problem with it tho. I keep one on top of my gun safe and one in the garage. Give things a little wipe down when you are done handling/using em
I looked up CLP, thanks, and I am new to bluing, but I like it so far, I think that if I use them and clean my tools like I normally do after use like I do, I do not think it will be a problem.
No, it does not, I am wearing leather gloves and yes, I get caught by the wire wheel all the time that is why I wear this specific brand of gloves because I have tried others and yes it hurts, I will not wear any cloth or any other gloves, I go through 6 pairs a year, they are from Harbor Freight, but I like them and they protect me just fine, I have tried welding gloves and others but not as flexible, and I have tried without gloves and just eats my hide off and that sucks! Thanks for watching, and thank you for your comment, it is good to hear people and what you have to say, I like it!!!!!!!
Wow that blueing turned out great. just one coat of the blueing? I wonder if they would be darker if you used two coats .The one without the blue handles turned out amazing.
@@djstoolrestorations hi thanks for the response. It’s a 10 inch 710l proto (made in the USA) adjustable wrench. The slide mechanism is bound up and is difficult to adjust
@@lawrencelarson988 I do not see why not, if you can wait till the end of August, I am working 15-hour days, and no money, I would like to make a video out of it!

Their really old I've actually took a crescent wrench and really cranked down the nut seems to be working ill try them out tomorrow. Thanks for the reply @djstoolrestorations
Somebody's poor daddy died and left his tools. I think it was worth taking time to prep, blue and finish since you use them. You'll feel better about them going through this effort. Resale value has gone way up too. I looked up your video when I found an old pair of mini 6.5" CLs in my tool box waiting for a fix. The pivot broke, so tomorrow I'll find out if I need to send it back or hopefully get one in the mail to bolt right in. Either way, you encouraged me to blue and wax mine too. It might end up as my edc after all that. That set of tools likely belonged to an old man who died and now the Lord gave you these as a kind gift. How would you like another kind gift from Him? This Baptist preacher has a short teaching on how you can become 100% sure of a home in heaven when you leave these tools to someone else. ua-cam.com/video/wAwFD72lesc/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared I'm glad for your new find there. Thank you for the kind comment, and I am very aware of other persons tools, I always wonder about how they were used, who used them, and what they worked on, can you imagine working on an old Edsel or model T ford, some of old tools did that, after my fire I had to find tools to replace what I had lost, so used tools and saving my burnt ones was what I did, that is how I got started, cleaning and repairing used tools!!!
I’ve had great luck using Mr. Clean Magic Erasers on these rubber type of handles. 😃👍🏻
I like it!
They look a hell of a lot better. I like the bluing. Good call DJ. Makes me want to clean mine up and blue them.
Go ahead and to it!
That blued 460 looks great!
I like it, different tools, blue differently, I think it has to do with hardness, porosity, age of metal and probably more that I do not know!
Great job
Thank you sir!!!!!!
Excellent result! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you!
Great idea
Thanks, I hope others see the value in old junk tools!
I blued an older pair of 420s last week. They came out shiney black. I thought it looks great
I like the bluing myself, it is not as good as other ways of protecting your tools but it looks good and not that expensive or hard to do!

Have you ever tried anything like plastidip for plier handles?
Yes, I made a video on the stuff, and I am not a big fan, if Channellock where to sell a product of their own I would buy it!
I like the blueing
Yea, I like the look of the tools!

They looked good to start to me. But you did a nice job.
Thanks!
Cotton balls work well for bluing.
I will try cotton balls, but my wife would not let me have any of hers and I have not been by a store to get some, I think she is being mean to me!
Actually they all look great after being blued!
Thanks!
I use Goof-Off to clean the handles, it really takes all the junk off and leaves them looking nice!
I do not have any, but it is on my list to try next time I go to down!
Great job great buy
Thank you sir!
Don't mean to be that guy, but when that wire wheel grabs one of those gloves you gonna be hating life. Channel locks look great

Found it….
If you have a air compressor you can blow all the water off relatively quickly.
Yea, I have one right there, I just do not think about it!!!!!!
Looking for the comments from Karens whining about wearing gloves while using a bench grinder
No, I already had them, just cut it off before they get the chance!
Wonder if you can warranty them?
They say too original owner, but I would not because I did not buy them through a retail store, but that is just me!

I tried it on a hammer with two coats and, it did darken a little more, but not by much, I will try to post that video next week.
Can I send, and pay you to, rebuild an adjustable wrench?
What kind of wrench are we talking about?

My old pair you go to clamp down on something and it slips. Won't lock down
Is the nut loose or is the pliers bent, possibly the grooves are worn from use over the years!?
