    Dude, I have some craftsman pliers I bought in 1982. No rubber grips but indestructible, and look like channelocks. I have used channelocks so many years, every slip joint pliers I have that are called channelocks by me. Lol. I have a pair of channelocks that look like the knipfe (the round inner jaw). They never slip. The key is leverage. Pliers too small slip. Pliers too big slip. Pliers that adjust to many slots rarely slip, but, when they do....they REALLY DO. I’ve had my fair share of rounded off nuts and bolts. Good vid. I liked the red took. But I can make do with what I have. Lol. Good day. 👍

      Thank you for the comments! I had to pin your comment! The info about the pliers too big and too small is great info. Info I will be mentioning when I shoot a channel lock video at some point. Thank you for watching Harry!

    I started my professional mechanic career in 1979, as an apprentice in a lawnmower shop at 14 yrs. old. In 1997 I got a pair of Knipex Wire Cutters, they have been my go to cutters more than any other, that same pair are still the single best cutting pliars in my toolbox. My sin-in-law uses them weekly while maintaining his 4 log hauling semi's and has been for 9 years.

    As I crawled out of the primordial ooze, Channellocks were my first step on the "Good Pliers" path. I was getting them new for a very fair price at the local flea market. Loved 'em!
    But now I've found Knipex. Channellock has nothing to be ashamed of -- American made, sturdy, fair price. But the Knipex are just amazing.

    They now have the XS Cobras 100mm (4”). You don’t have to worry about stepping on them because (they won’t break), if you broke them you wouldn’t have to buy a new set because Knipex will replace them for free. I replaced my Channelocks a little less than a year ago, I was waiting patiently for them to fail for almost half a decade of use tightening conduit fittings as an electrician so I would have an excuse to buy Knipex cobras but they won’t die and will most likely not leave my bag even though I have better tools.

    Around 1989/90 MAC tools came out with regular sized pipe wrench pliers that held like that. Once on the harder you applied pressure the harder they gripped. I actually tore off 5/8th exhaust bolts with mine. Watched the tool salesman weighing 240 lbs bouncing on the top handle and they wouldn't break. Still have that plier and still my go to.

    Nice video. I have the 5 inch Cobras. The button has a tendency to get stuck when depressed. I have to jiggle the handles to get them to disengage and snap out. Is this normal? I tried lube. Thanks.

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  4 роки тому +1

      That are such a simple design. Maybe check that bent metal piece that acts as the spring. That screw may be loose or that metal may have bent.
      The button on mine stays in as well when it is not in a groove. I either have to go up or down a little then it will pop back out. As long as the button is still working is all that matters. Thank you for watching.

      Your test was a tougher one than knipex does . You used a smaller diameter shaft to grip on. And th at still held!

      @@ThatFixItGuy Check out this BS article about how his house was supposedly a 100 year old log cabin that re renovated. That's a crock of shit. His house was built in the late 40s and was move in ready when he bought the property. His land used to be an alpaca farm.

He doesnt seem to be this man's man salt of the earth guy he portrays himself to be. He just seems like some wealthy nutjob whos only hobby seems to be looking for attention on youtube. And, then theres the whole business of wanting to start a cult.

    I'm sure he was right and they're a good tool, but he was absolutely wrong in saying Channellock is now worthless just because Knipex exists.
    Tongue and groove or otherwise Channellock still makes an excellent tool ( I like their screwdrivers too), and I'll always trust them.
    From my favorite 337 dykes, 357 end cutters,the 426 I carry every day at work, or the 1933 pair of #420 from my grandfather they are great tools.
    I saw his last video regarding the subject and based solely on his hypocritical elitist attitude about Knipex I went to the local hardware store and bought another pair of CHANNELLOCK pliers.

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  4 роки тому

      Oh bro I totally agree with you. There is something to be said about just the feel of a pair of 440s in the hand. Had used a lot of different pliers over the years and I love them.
      These little 6” knipex are cool, but the reality is for most people they are expensive. For one pair a small pliers I could have almost bought a three piece set and got a free screwdriver.
      The 6-1 that I got free is still my favorite one. I use it all the time! Thank you for your comments! I hope you keep coming back!

      I paid $10 for my channellock 6-1 , and find it to be a bargain even at that though I bought it specifically for the minor electrical repairs kit I put together and haven't used it a ton.
      I currently have 15 or more different pairs of pliers from channellock and can't find fault with any of them.
      I recently converted my uncle who has been a self employed plumber for the past 20+ years to blue by buying him a pair of #420.
      He was using crappy imported Milwaukee or various big box store brand pliers, and could not believe how much better the channellocks were for about the same money as the fancy looking Milwaukee's.
      Wranglerstar was always someone who I respected as a UA-camr compared to everyone else, but he has definitely changed.
      He can now be seen acting like one of those elitists who he always said were the reason why he detested internet forums.

      That is awesome about hooking your uncle up with some 420s! And I agree. That is like a dream change especially after so long using other type.
      I like some of the things he does and I don’t like some of it as well. Wonder if UA-cam Fame has gotten to his head? Lol. I don’t know if UA-cam fame is a real thing! Fake news?

      I think it's just what happens to a lot of people when they start to depend on the UA-cam and Amazon affiliate money.
      I see him doing things he used to speak against in order to keep viewership up and I understand, but you can't change in such a way and act like you're just as you used to be.
      He didn't used to speak like " this more expensive tool is the best ever , btw heres a link where I can get money from you buying it ".
      I have to question whether or not he just wants us buying the more expensive tool he can make more money on, I would like to think not but he has me questioning it.
