    Gia is what I call my tragedy hero. She lived a life that was exciting and had the beauty of a goddess. She had fame and adoration....but she still was very human and broken inside like we all are. She seemed to be brave and unafraid to be who she was despite of the issues she faced. Her life is a lesson that even at the top and all of the beauty in the world won't give you peace of mind...everyone wants and needs real true love. But she was timeless..and that's why people still

    I think it's weird that some posters here are upset Linter did not continue her relationship with Carangi, did not "save" her, etc. etc. Do any of these people know what it's LIKE to be in a relationship with a CRAZY JUNKIE??? Please. It's almost impossible to have an enduring, honest relationship with junkies because they behave in a dishonest, inappropriate, mentally ill way. (And, it's not like you even have to abandon them to lose touch - they take off on their own as they descend,) Gia Carangi was certainly beautiful, and had some good qualities as a person...but she also sounds exhausting.

    • @island-life
      @island-life 9 років тому +7

      I agree with you. The drug abuse was her own doing. The other abuse were caused by other people but not the heroine. Gia bought the drugs and she shot the needle. I still wish she could've died from old age though. It would've been nice to hear her in a one on one long interview instead of just minutes. Janice dickinson wrote books about her modelling life and the dirty details behind it. I can see Gia doing the exact same thing if she lived longer, But.... she run out of luck.

    • @nursegrace7492
      @nursegrace7492 9 років тому +7

      queen nie It also sounds like Ms. Carangi was in quite a lot of emotional loneliness. Would living a longer life have necessarily been enjoyable for her? She had conflicted relationships with her family, it doesn't sound like she sustained long, solid friendships, she hated the job that brought her success...what was there that was enjoyable, aside from drugs? So Yes, it is very sad she died young, but maybe extra decades would have just been additional servings of sadness (?)

    • @island-life
      @island-life 9 років тому +7

      Nurse Grace So you're basically telling me that people like her are meant to die young? I respect your honesty but i believe in chances. I believe that if she was offered the kind of help that we have now, she could've lived long enough to appreciate life. I mean..... Look at us.... We don't know her but we have a certain level of love for her. If she lived long enough to have access to the internet and the fans on social media, Maybe she could have seen how many people loves her and felt better somehow. She could have became an advocate against illegal drugs or even a member of Lgbtq conventions, because more than anything, She was a hot lesbian and she was so damn open about it! This was back when there was no Ellen show or any homosexual woman characters on tv yet. This was back when girls kissing a girl on the lips is considered a Myth. This was back when if there are any lesbians, it was all fat or not attractive. (Sorry i have to say that but you get what i mean). At that time, Beautiful sexy lesbians were not visible yet. But there was that one very confident girl named Gia, She was WIDE open about sexually desiring other girls. I don't know about you but as a bisexual girl, This fascinates me.

    • @island-life
      @island-life 8 років тому +6

      Ellisha George Yeah. As a bisexual girl, well... I was just explaining what i felt when i browsed through her pictures. Physically, no doubt, she's a showstopper and a headturner. But to me, the thing that truly stands out is the sex appeal. Any brunette can put makeup on and be pretty. But Gia is not just plain pretty. Gia is almost like a heroin herself. Once you get a taste, it's hard to let go of it.

    I just saw the movie the other night on Xfinity on Demand. I knew nothing about Gia's story until I saw the movie and I lived in NYC during that time. After the movie, I google Gia and almost fell over when I saw who she was. I recognized her face immediately so today I ordered your book for my kindle. The story saddens me deeply and I have been obsessed with learning more these past few days. Gia was a few years younger than me and being a dancer in NYC during her time, I so very much related to the whole drug scene among, not only those in fashion but those of us in dance, music and theater.

    I have been rereading my book yet again and find it very cathartic every time I am going through a painful time in my life I return to this interesting story. I think as women we often blame our misfortunes and unhappiness in life on our perceived shortcomings. Superficial flaws and statements such as "If only I were beautiful life would be easier." This is where we then look at Gia. Aesthetically perfect from head to toe. However things are not what they seem. I am not saying one should bask in the tragedy and shortcomings of a beauty but rather take note that true happiness is so much deeper than a gorgeous face and body. At the end of the day I am sure Gia would have exchanged her beauty for consistent happiness and unfortunately that was what she did through Heroin.

It is so good to see that the book was more truthful then the movie in regards to Gia and you. The Rochelle alias character in the book...They demonstrated you in the movie as Rochelle a lot. What I mean is that the incidents portrayed in the book in the Rochelle chapters kinda made their way into the Sandy character in the movie. I hope that makes some sense.

    Gia and Whitney Houston story is very similar. My friend actually knew Whitney. He told me she was a lesbian way before her girlfriend Robyn came out with their story. I was surprised. Whitney Houston also was a model for the same agency. But Whitney was actually saved by Robyn she was always by her side as a friend should be. It all went down hill I believe when she met Bobby. Beautiful souls over taken by addictions and did not really have anyone by their sides who really cared enough. May both RIP.

    The man was initially being rather...rude I think?, especially considering this isn't his family member, that he can talk as though he owns her just because he chose to write about the story? Oh well at least he is open about his feelings, probably because he knows the person he is talking to won't take it personally. You're a very good makeup artist Ms Linter and that's the only interest I have in your channel (and you) but you have very good manners, straightforward character while seeming more easy-going towards others... which is something everyone needs to master. growing up we were told as Rumi said "this world is [like] a dream... You will wake up laughing at your grief." As all pain and heartache, which one can't make sense of, will have reward and compensation beyond what is imaginable .. to the point we are told those who die from stomach related illnesses (like stomach cancer) have died a martyrs death due to the degree of pain they endured it's equivalent to any hero .. hence Rumi wrote "laughing at your grief"... as it becomes meaningless when you "wake up" in the end (next life) . I know this will be the case for such a person who suffered from AIDS, and that is the only way I can make sense of such a tragedy. I hope this helps or if it doesn't just wanted to add a voice of admiration to the comments as there is a lot of nastiness here

    I just found your channel by pure accident, but amazing footage and conversation you have on here. Pretty amazing that Sandy is willing to give us a glimpse into her relationship with Gia. Most folks understand that no one person can “save” an addict … unfortunately, they can only save themselves. I’m openly gay and have fallen in love with a “straight” woman; knowing our relationship wouldn’t last forever, but my loyalty to her stands to this day. We have a friendship that transcends our one time “relationship”. Cut this poor lady a break and be thankful that we get insight that most would have never had without her openness. Everyone wants more salacious scandal and for it to turn out like a fucking Lifetime movie, but in reality, we are all just people trying to make our way thru life and most of us fuck up a relationship or three along the way. And btw, Sandy is an amazing makeup artist; that is a talent and before you go to judge her, how many covers do You have to your credit? Thank you again Sandy for giving us a little glimpse of the reality behind the hype. And, I’m sorry for the loss of your beautiful friend; only wish she could’ve overcome her demons to stick around a while longer.

    On an a shooting star documentary you said you two were not in a relationship. Why did hbo portray otherwise and why had you let them?

    • @MadisonS87
      @MadisonS87 7 років тому

      keeping it real do the same You say you "THINK they were in a relationship, there was love there." Why don't you take your equally "uneducated" ass on? I was asking a question to gain more clarity to further understand. Like everyone else in the comments. Their relationship was clearly a toxic one and I want to know more about it. Seeing as this was put out for the public I can ask whatever I choose to ask. Happy Sunday!

    • @MadisonS87
      @MadisonS87 7 років тому

      keeping it real do the same the funny thing about text is that you cannot read the tone of a question or comment. You assumed and you quite frankly made an ass out of yourself. Why would I attack someone on a relationship that I was not apart of? You're not sandy so I'll leave my comment at that. Should Sandy read this particular comment I'd love a response and please read my initial comment as a sincere question and in no way, shape or form as an attacking question.

I mean, what else does she have in life as just a has-been makeup artist who never really made it big in her field? And good job for not letting her talk over you. And God bless you for writing that book about the incomparable Gia Carangi.. We love you, Stephen.

It's a disgusting display of what our sad world has come to. Get a life, sandy linter. U could have helped her and u didn't, now u are capitalizing on her. May the Lord have mercy on your soul.

I have met many..so called straight women who were just in the closet &in denial about their sexuality. That is my experience. Now Can u admit you were Gay with Gia? U fell in love with another woman & that woman was Gia ,who was 100% Gay!Did u ever go to therapy to deal with your issues??

    When were you devastated by her death exactly? Years before when you pretty much tossed her aside by used toilet paper? Or in the 90s when her story came to the fore, when you realized you could actually benefit from your association with her?
    I'm gonna be honest. I don't like you, and I don't like how you treated Gia. And I don't like you BECAUSE of how you treated Gia. When she was big you were hanging off her tit; when things got bad for her you cast her aside. Don't try to claim her NOW.
