    The look of joy on his face when he secures that last choke... This makes me excited to start up BJJ.

    I just tried this for the first time today in my judo dojo against a much bigger judoka chap and I got it first time! I was very happy! This is a wicked move and it’s so simple to execute. Thanks for showing us.

    Another great video! Thank you so much, BJJ Weekly! I love seeing the Gracies in your videos! This is the reason why I subscribed to you! I subscribed right after the last video of Rolling Reflections featuring Ryron Gracies. They are the best! I've always wanted to see Ryron and Rener roll. Can you get that on video?

    So I have read about clock chokes from guard and have tried them in judo but I am obviously getting something wrong (it's too loose to come on). I am 6ft6 and have really long limbs. One rule of thumb is that people say to feel your opponent's clavical joint because you don't want to go deep with the cross grip. Does this apply to me as my arms are so long? Do I just squeeze more at the elbow to tighten the gap?

  • @CJfunctional
    @CJfunctional 5 років тому

    I was recently taught to give more slack to the collar. But Apparently this looks tighter.
    Ill try it.

    what I notice is how the finish position looks like what the top guy is told to do to defend a guillotine and I wonder if one could fake the guillotine but want the loop choke.

    • @AnthonyPolanco
      @AnthonyPolanco 8 років тому

      in the Gi, many will avoid using the guillotine altogether for this reason. Now I understand why! You can use the loop choke where the guillotine succeeds & also where it fails. Still a big guillotine fan in the Gi, but it's good to know you can instead shoot for the collar in other situations!

    Could you roll over the top and spin away from the choke, one of the guy's at my old school got me with a Peruvian Necktie or a Guillotine and that's the strategy I used which worked for me seeing that he was an Australian champ blue belt and I was a white and later he said I was improving I was happy with that.

    Hands can kill you, always watch the hands. Hands can grip, it always starts with a grip. He who has grips is winning. I remind myself, beware of the grips.

    Isn't it a better option to grab the belt over his arm instead of under it giving him the cross face, risking falling into ninja choke?

    Cara, esse Loop Choke é bom ... Eu faço essa técnica quando oponente já está 'passando' minha guarda. O adversário acha que vai passar minha guarda, mas então eu surpreendo com a Sucuri Rodada(Loop Choke).

  • @TheByrdHouse
    @TheByrdHouse 10 років тому +14

    Thanks for this. I used this just the other day and submitted a purple belt. Actually he went to sleep. I guess he didn't feel threatened when he got caught, he thought he could get out. The next thing I know he stopped so I let go. He went to sleep, woke up and had no idea what happened.

    How is this a legal move..maybe im not understanding correctly but you're choking them with their collar..or am I way off

    • @coryortega2050
      @coryortega2050 5 років тому

      Los Dino in bjj, the gi can be used as a defensive weapon or an offensive weapon. In this case it’s offensive and it’s absolutely allowed

    • @TeamEmfield
      @TeamEmfield 6 років тому +1

      I don't like the Von Flue from here. If Ryron wasn't holding your gi, that would work great. Because of the grip the Von Flue will only tighten the choke.
      Cheers

  • @bigchief70
    @bigchief70 11 років тому +7

    loop chokes are awesome, but I can't agree with ryron's finish. I know there are some fancy chokes that you can finish from side control, but to simply concede side control with a choke entry or not, seems foolish to me. I typically finish mine from half guard....but who the hell am I, I guess.

    • @ChristopherOden
      @ChristopherOden 11 років тому +1

      My favorite choke used to be the baseball bat choke, caught it a lot in competition cause the opponent was so eager to pass towards the end for points that they often went for the pass without noticing the hands, gotta take some risks sometimes haha

    • @giofugazz
      @giofugazz 9 років тому +3

      +bigchief70 There is actually more leverage for this choke if you go to side control, there is a variation of this choke where you roll under the guy and you put yourself almost in a north south position. With this variation it is very likely that the guy will roll with you and give you top position, if he doesn't he is more likely to go to sleep. Loop chokes are no joke.
