I love these kinds of videos👍. I hunted treestands most of my life. But now I hunt in ground blinds. And I love them on a rainy day. Only bad thing is hearing the rain on the blind makes me sleepy😃😃
IMHO this is by far the best video of method on this subject...excellent presentaton and explaination...you are very efficient and precise...easy to see you have honed your craft...awesome awesome job...you just showed me a system mehod I could adopt as my own...well done you!
This is awesome brother! I really like how you went over the system, gave a bit of background, then the demonstration. Good point about practicing before using it hunting. Great video, thanks for sharing!
I think your aider is a must for me thanks. I Have been using my homemade saddle for two years now, way to go make your own if you can but be careful, I just got my Hawk 30" sticks, they are great with my mods to the, they stack titer, camo, attachments. Will be taken them out to test and video when it warms up a little. Thank for doing the videos .
I wish they had that stuff decades ago. I've used numerous tree climbers. I've had more metal rattles during hunting season and dropped wrist-wrap trigger release a couple times which taught me to always carry a spare. I may make raised blind this coming season. I never know what I'm going to do a year ahead (smile). Great demo; full-watch. Have a fine week.
You did an awesome job bringing the mobile set up info to us. I have the same sticks. I have not cut them down yet. But have put to attached raiders to the bottom 2 sticks. I used a saddle this year so I dropped the weight of the stand. I was comfortable but will need more practice this off season. Thanks for the share. Have a BLESSED day.
Practice makes a huge difference! No doubt saddles are coming on strong in the past few years, I’m just concerned a saddle would make my self filming even more challenging than it already is?!? Thanks for watching 👍
I love my summit it's light and easy to use and very comfy but I hate logging it in and out...I have a small Lone Wolf hang on from the 80s...I like your set up with a small red light I think it would be easy to climb in the dark
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! I appreciate it! Sound like you have a couple good options. My summit still sees action in certain instances. Seems no one stand is perfect in all situations and having options pays off 👍
Great video, thanks for taking the time to make and post. I’m a long time hunter in my late sixties having to rethink how I can feasibly continue to stand hunt. Thanks again for the good information, I will modeling my set up after yours.
I aswell have used climbing tree stands for years and just got a lone wolf assault ii and hawk helium sticks mainly for weight, safety, and being quiet
Enjoyed watching some of your video's. I went to a saddle this year, gave it a shot for hunting certain trees, after a full season personally found a climber or hang on still work best for me. Glad I found your channel.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! You touched on a very important topic! Not every style is compatible for everyone! It’s important to find what works for you and then get comfortable with it! I appreciate your support 👍
@@HuntingFarmerOfficial why is everyone modding the hawk stick with ropes? They used to have a cam buckle strap with loops and now they have a strap with loops stitched every couple inches. So I guess what I’m asking is....which one did you throw out? The cam buckle strap or the weird no buckle straps?
@@HuntingFarmerOfficial it was! I was on a hunt on Cumberland island Georgia and the store I bought the stand at said to pick a tree with no limbs so I picked a palm tree. No one said that palm trees shed their bark easily and won't work. Found that out the hard way!
I like the idea and I do a similar system, but I regard to talking about not clainging and banging metal on metal, your caribener can easily bang into your sticks that are on your sides, and your stand can also bang into your sticks that are on your sides. Maybe attaching rope loops to your harness to let the sticks hang lower would solve that problem I think it would. Also as for walking in with your sticks strapped over your shoulder again you have metal on metal with the sticks bumping into the stand as you walk. I could see that definitely happening. Those are small issues to fix but could cost on noise
Thanks for watching! You have some great points. I’m definitely going to try adding some paracord loops! When I carry my steps with the aider as a strap they don’t hit my stand. The only thing I have to watch is them hitting brush and making noise. 👍
I have a small mod for you. On halk helium stick, on the cups that holds them together during transport, flip the cups on one stick. This will turn the part that hits the tree the opposite of the rest making a slight smaller package and not dig into you when carrying
How's she goin'? I don't hunt and have never seen this type of system. I am familiar with tree stands. You sure have it down to an art!!! Great tips and it looks pretty easy for you to get up a tree and well perched for the hunt!!! Thanks for posting. Pretty interesting video!!! Take care!!!
Great video! I just bought my first mobile setup, which I'll be using for practice this summer. These mods are great info, although after much thinking I decided to go for Hawk's new 20 inch sticks (I'm a short guy). I'll be sure to add an aider to my setup though. Thanks!
Practicing over the summer will help SOOOO much! It’s great to get comfortable and aquatinted with your gear no matter what you use. Thanks for watching my video! I appreciate it 👍
Have you ever thought about a ttee saddle. I went to one last year love it. I also have the hawk helium sticks I didn’t cut mine down but still use a aider
Thanks for watching. No the rock climbing harness tethers to the front at belt height. Your tether then wraps back past your waist and to the tree (much lower than when you wear a full body harness). I prefer this because I’ve had trouble with my tether getting in the way of my draw when it’s up by my neck. 👍
Have you considered using a saddle? I ran a similar setup with stand/sticks up until 1998. Then switched to a saddle. So much nicer in regard to weight and comfort. Just a thought...
If you haven’t tried a saddle yet, I’m also in PA. Not sure where you’re at in relation to my area. However I’d be willing to let you try them out. I have 3 different models.
Sounds like you were way ahead of the popularity curve when it came to saddles. They do interest me from the weight saving aspect but I’m afraid it would cause too many challenges with my self-filming. Thanks for taking the time to watch my video 👍
so, I have a real question. I bought the xop Air Raid hang on for mobile hunting with the x-2 sticks. I went out to hang it today but I'm struggling! Are guys really hanging and hunting at the same time? I put on my hunting clothes and between that, the stand and the back pack I worked up a pretty good sweat! How in the world do we get all our gear out there and up in the tree smoothly not to mention what if you wanted to do a morning hunt and go in at dark? It took me 30 or more minute to get it all done but the sweating part killed me! I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. it just seems easier to hang one day and hunt the next. I need educated! by the way I'm 49 yeas old to! Not as young as I used to be... Hope for a response!
I answered that question in a recent video (you don't have to watch the whole thing but I address your question at the 7:18 mark) ua-cam.com/video/3_NEtXGzzIE/v-deo.htmlsi=BW3qS45vDMqQrT-W In short, it ISN'T easy! Practice, practice, practice. that will at least make things "easier" 😁
Is there a significant reachable height difference with the cut sticks vs. full length sticks using an aider and leaving out the weight variant ? Thanks for the informative video !
There is a difference in heights. Of course each person will be comfortable with different spacing depending on their leg length etc. For me I end up using 4 short sticks to get to approximately the same height as 3 full length sticks. I typically use the aider on just the bottom or the bottom 2 sticks 👍
Came back to this video as I’m looking to mod my stick setup from straps to rope...I looked on amazon for the static 8 mm rope...is there a link to what you’re using or am I missing it. Thanks again!
I would recommend checking out REI.com You definitely want good quality rope (as your life depends on it). Another option is to buy a Muddy “Lifeline” meant to safely climb up and down tree stands. It’s between 30 and 40 feet long and is climbing rated rope. It’s readily available at about any sporting goods retailer and you could simply cut it into desired lengths. 👍
@@HuntingFarmerOfficial okay awesome! I really would benefit if you made that video, right now im torn between which climbing sticks to buy for this upcoming season. I think I may buy the 30 in helium sticks and not use an aider.

It is considerably lighter because it has the plastic button vs the metal attachment point. The new ones also have no metal hooks but instead have the loops on the end of the straps. Here’s a comparison I did of different helium sticks if you are interested in watching 👍 ua-cam.com/video/69mgUN6l-iI/v-deo.html
I made my own diy saddle this year. The xben would get uncomfortable on long sits if trying to use it as a saddle. I use my xben as a safety harness and especially as I hang or take down stands 👍
Thanks for watching. I bought my rope at an online rock climbing store. I wanted to have quality rope. There appears to be black 8mm static rope on Amazon also (not sure of its quality). The last option is to buy a lifeline (like from Muddy). They are usually made out of 8mm quality rope and are about 35’ long. You could simply cut it into desired lengths.
Not sure I ever did a video specifically on my aider. I just used tubular webbing and an overhand knot. I put a section of garden hose with a paracord cobra wrap to help hold it open for your foot. 👍

Make the same video on a gnarly old tree with lots of branches instead of these telphone poles. If I have a telephone pole tree, nothing will ever be easier or faster than my Lone Wolf hand climber. Every climbing stick video I see on UA-cam is on telephone pole looking trees. I want to see you go around branches, because going around branches is the only reason to even consider climbing sticks over my Lone Wolf hand climber in the first place.
Thanks for watching! No doubt limbs slow the process down but it absolutely can be done. I’ve hunted more trees this year with limbs everywhere than I ever had before. You must use your tether as a second lineman’s rope to safely navigate the limbs 👍
No doubt there are pros and cons to any method you choose to use. In any given year I’ll use a climber, hang on, ladder stand, saddle, and blinds. I feel they all can have their place 😁 Thanks for watching and sharing your opinion (experience). I appreciate it 👍
Watching someone climb a tree like this after switching over to saddle hunting really irks me. Hang n Hunt stands are so unsafe it's wild. Climbing a tree 20+ feet while never being able to use both hands, most guys don't use a bow rope and try to climb with all their gear. 99% of people people who hunt with these set ups and never practice. Equipment never gets checked. I have family members that have hunted for 25 years that have fallen out of the tree and nearly died. Using a saddle, you can ALWAYS use both hands, you're back is completely supported and you feel completely weightless. There is never one moment in a tree saddle that you will feel unsafe. I don't see how guys could ever spend a dime on a hang-on like this. Saddles and ladder stands in prime spots. Not interested in having anxiety attacks and making noise for an hour trying to hang a stand in the dark. I'm not trying to down anyone who uses this, I just see it drastically being outdated. I'd love a comparison video side by side with using a Lone Wolf hang n hunt set, and directly next to that I want someone climbing the tree in a Tethrd Phantom XL. The saddle hunter will be hunt ready in the tree 80% faster than the hang n hunt, and so quiet you could set it up with deer directly under you.
I love these kinds of videos👍. I hunted treestands most of my life. But now I hunt in ground blinds. And I love them on a rainy day. Only bad thing is hearing the rain on the blind makes me sleepy😃😃

Nothing wrong with excitement from the ground blind! Gravity doesn’t have favorites! 😜 Thanks for watching my video! I really do appreciate it 👍

Thanks for stopping by! You’re welcome back anytime 👍
Where did you get the aider?
I made the aider from 1” tubular webbing. I made a cobra weave from paracord to cover a piece of garden hose to hold open the step 👍
Non locking biner is not ideal for anything that gets loaded and unloaded.... lineman’s loop should be a locker
You make some good points. I appreciate the advice. Also, thanks for watching 👍
Good content....I would say putting anything around your neck while climbing is not a good idea ...
You make a good point! Thanks for watching! I appreciate it 👍
cool but way to much trouble. a climber is faster, quieter, more comfortable and safer
No doubt there are pros and cons to any method you choose to use. In any given year I’ll use a climber, hang on, ladder stand, saddle, and blinds. I feel they all can have their place 😁
Thanks for watching and sharing your opinion (experience). I appreciate it 👍
Forget that lol
Haha! I appreciate you watching 👍
Thanks for watching and sharing your experiences and opinions. 👍
