Deep down inside, I've always preferred sports cars to single seaters, they look like real cars. Thank you for the explanation.
Well LMP is basically a mic between open seat and sports cars.
same 😃
Besides, I don't fit in an F3 car, i'm too big.
Lmp1/hypercars are single seaters tho
Same, I love the GTE cars way more than the LMPs
i’ve stuck to formula one for about two years now this is great i can finally start getting into wec
Remember when Audi was king at either fuel.
They used petrol they dominated.
They used diesel they dominated.
I just wanted to educate myself about racing, I have respected for this sport.
Great to hear!

A mistake in the video: The GTE cars no longer require yellow headlights. My apologies.
Are they different because of the length of the races?
Thank you for the explanations of the car classes. I knew about the LMP1 and LMP2 classes and their differences, but I wasn't sure about the differences in GTE-Pro and GTE-Am. Now I know.
Excellent video! Very complete and objective, thank you!
Thanks for the feedback 🙏
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you!
Glad I could help :)
I’ve been watching NASCAR and Formula 1 for what feels like forever, but I’ve always wanted to watch another series as well but didn’t know where to start. Thank you for the informative video
Glad the video helped!
Excellent explanation. Straight to the point and complete. The timestamps are a nice touch as well. Good job, sir!
Thank you :)
Currently hyping for LMDh cars coming to both IMSA and WEC, can't wait.
Yeah I’m eager to see how it turns out!
@@VehicleValhalla Maybe the field will be a mix of cars with either DPi or LMP2 bodywork but with wildly different engines combined with the KERS hybrid system. The funny thing is it got more manufacturers' interests than hypercar right now.
LMP1 is dead when Porsche and Audi left
I think many people will agree with this. Now my main focus has definitely shifted towards GTE Pro.
Yeah
@@VehicleValhalla why it hasn't shifted towards LMP 2 ?
Александр Казимирович I just find it more exciting when there are big manufacturers fighting it out, but that’s not to say I’m not a fan of LMP2
BlueFlag Alpha big f in the chat.
Thank God I found this i only know the classes I didn't know there was hybrid and non hybrid lmp1
Love that you broke things down into different chapters. THANK YOU.
Wow, incredible video. Today I watched Le Mans 24 race and got really interested in endurance races. Thank you for explaining everything so clear, in such a short time. 👍💪
Thanks for the support and I'm glad you're enjoying endurance racing - keep an eye on the WEC as for 2023 we will have an amazing grid full of major manufactures so hopefully exciting times to come!
@@VehicleValhalla Alright, will do that. 👍
Thank you for this explanation.
It's really clear and the video in it's entirety is really high quality... I love it
Keep up with the good work
Thanks for the kind words :) More videos like this to come soon!
Such a great video! Thank you for the comprehensive yet concise video.
Glad I could help!
You know what, in all honesty, I thought this was going to be a bit boring. Pleased I watched it all, so much information, so many topics cleared up! Thanks! 🎉
Thank you. As someone getting into WEC, this video was really helpful. Subscribed!
I’m glad my video could help! I’ve also made another video relating to WEC; it’s a sound comparison!
@@VehicleValhalla Oh? I'll give it a watch after work today. Thanks mate.
If you are an Indian then please tell where can I watch wec 2023 in India?
Clear as water. Amazing guide!

Thanks for this info, now know more about why regulations are the way they are. Start in LMP 2, move up to LMP 1. Start in Am, Move up to Pro. EXCELLENT . . . Know where I'm starting . . .
Extremly helpful guide
thank you very much, awesome video!
🙏
Thanks for this video!!
Glad I could help :)
Awesome video, definitely needed viewing for a new WEC fan like myself.
Glad I could help 😃
@@VehicleValhalla i knew audi left,so no one was left for Porche to race.Is that correct? Does this mean no more hybrid class or is LMP altogether?
Audi and Porsche both left. They were LMP1 hybrids. Toyota is the only LMP1 Hybrid remaining - there are still a few LMP1 non hybrids. There is also a full class of LMP2.
Next year the LMP1 class will be gone completely in favour of a roadcar based “hypercar” class. However, LMP2 will remain.
Hope that helped :)
@@VehicleValhalla thanx buddy, excellent channel.Again, thank you for taking time to answer so timely.I imagine that will soon change if you keep making such good vids and subscriptions grow.
Thanks for the kind words 😊 I appreciate it
Can you please make some on other series too ? Cause I liked this one and want you to make more .
Definitely! What series would you like to see?
Currently on the channel this video is quite similar, although it compares 2 series rather than focussing on one:
ua-cam.com/video/qsQUGGxkdoA/v-deo.html
Like on some of other le man based series or other sports car championship's or you can make on other 24 hour races in the world
Thanks for the explanation :)
Glad I could help :)
Thank you
God bless you
Thanks !
hey, very good and informative video, hope you get more viewers :)
Thank you very much 🙏
what a nice video thanks
🙏👍
Thank you
AHHHHH so that's how its raced. Thanks for the info! Leman's for dummies.
No problem mate!
Just an update since I posted this video: the top class LMP1 has been replaced by a new class comprised of LMDh and HyperCars.
In short, the HyperCars should in theory give greater road relevance. They are cheaper and slower than the current LMP1s. The LMDh are like more intense LMP2 cars. The cars all undergo balance of performance regs to be comparable.
Here’s some more detail:
www.fiawec.com/en/classes/32
Nice and informative video
Thanks!
Went to LeMans in 2018, from then on F1 lost a little of it’s charm for me.
Been to WEC (Silverstone) and F1 but never to Le Mans. Can’t imagine how special of an experience that must have been for you!
When you buy a Le Mans ticket, do you get access to all 24 hours? Are you free to simply pop in and out of the track lol
@@wifebeater69 Yup !
@@mandst5466 Nice, and thx for the reply
@@wifebeater69 We went for the long weekend camping. Watched practice and the race. I managed to stay awake for 39hours, saw the entire race from different parts of the track plus popping back to the camp site for food where there was a big TV with the race on it. When it was all over, had one beer and collapsed. 😴
Thanks
Finally figured out the name for this racing but i only really like f3 f2 and f1
That’s fair enough - everybody has their preferences :)
What’s the difference between wec and imsa are there different driver and different cars?
Nice video. Yellow headlights aren't obligatory for GTE since last year though.
Oh yes. Thanks for pointing that out. I will write a comment rectifying this.
why all lmp look like a flat rectangle from the top? reminds me of the old tamiya 4wd saber series
Do why Formula 1 doesnt race at the Canadian tire track Aka Mosport
Thanks for explaining! Sebring is pronounced sea-bring btw 😊
Thank you for this great video 👍
Was confused on seeing a documentary showing Ford winning Le Mans 2016, while Wikipedia showing Porsche as the winner.
BTW what does Valhalla mean?
Happy to help! Valhalla is where warriors go to once they die - a warrior heaven - in Norse Mythology. I was struggling for a name so my friend suggested this one. A bit of alliteration + Norse mythology seemed like a good idea! Means my channel is car heaven!
The P2 cars are the stars of the show.
Could you explain more about Garage 57. The class the Nissan Deltawing ran in
It's not a class, it's a special garage at Le Mans which is perserved for "special" cars or driver combinations. 2020 three physically impaired drivers wanted to take part, they couldn't though due to the current pandemic. It's garage 56 btw.
That's still, alot of information to take in..
New to endurance racing, but i still have 1st hand experience on car engineering and performance..
Another hobby added to never ending list of hobbies
I’ve just come from another boring F1 season just looking for some new stuff to watch looking good
My fav class is lmp 2 because it's much more competitive
Halo nice explain, how about FiA GT1,2,3 , do you have a video that explains that too?, Cause Its so confusing.
That would make a great video - thanks for the idea!
To answer you question briefly:
The difference between current GT4 and GT3 cars is that GT4 cars are more closely related to the road cars - they have less aero compared to the GT3 and are heavier so therefore slower.
Many manufacturers create GT4 and GT3 versions of their cars. The series you enter the cars in have their own regulations to make sure that this variety of cars are evenly matched so they can introduce ‘handicaps’ e.g power restrictions or weight increase (ballast)
GT1 and GT2 are extinct categories however if I’m not mistaken I believe GT2 is making a comeback.
Hope that helps!
@@VehicleValhalla well technically the old GT2 class was renamed to the current GTE class in 2011. The new GT2 class is a totally different thing that Stephane Ratel is doing.
So is the WEC and IMSA merging? How is that going to work with both combined fields of cars and what about the tracks around the world?
The championship aren't merging, both championships will share their top class though (LMDh).
Lmp1 is dpi right
I want LMP1 headlights on my '95 YJ.
I prefer GTE overall, the lack of major manufacturers and what is basically standardization of design has made the prototype classes dull (for lack of a better word) compared to what it used to be.
Now it’s a shame that GTE is slowly declining too after Ford and BMW left. Corvette Racing won’t be competing in this year’s Le Mans and Porsche having dropped out of IMSA leaves their WEC future uncertain too.
gonna need an update for the new classs
Yep I will make an updated video. Haven't uploaded in ages but have now started work on several new videos to kick the channel back to life!
Ok now how do i join
How is a winner determined? Is it still the first car across the finish line?
It is determined by who covers the greatest distance during the race. The last lap has to be completed to win however, with a maximum time too.
Gte pro
LM1
You said in the beginning that there is one overall winner and for each class there is a winner.
How is it determined who wins the overall race? Can someone explain? Because if the winner was the first one to cross the line after time had run out, it would be a little unfair for all non LMP cars...just my understanding of it 😅
Perhaps it would be easier to think of it as 4 completely separate races that just happen to be taking place at the same time, on the same track. When a team enters a car in a specific class, they only care about beating the others in that class.
The performance gap between the LMPs and GTs is huge! The LMP1’s pace can be compared with F1 cars while the GTs are essentially modified road cars, and the teams know this means there is no competition between the 2.
The winner is determined by who covers the greatest distance during the race. The last lap has to be completed to win however, with a maximum time too.
Hope that helps :)
My favorite category is f1
Has there ever been an "underdog" winner? Like a GT car winning outright over the LMP cars?
Not in WEC but Porsche won the Petit Le Mans race in the IMSA championship in their GTE car over some Prototypes.
LMP1 & LMP2 where my favorites but now Porsche and Audi aren’t doing that anymore 😔
Audi have recently announced they are leaving Formula E for a new WEC project and it is said that Porsche are also formally considering a comeback! Very excited to see how turns out
Porsche and Audi have confirmed their comeback!
@@MudhaffarAdhwa Even though it’ll be restricted performance of the LMDh still super excited to see the 2 titans back!
Am I the only one who got WEC and IMSA mixed up sometimes due to their endurance races
Like I thought imsa did the 24 hours of Le Mans and WEC did the Rolex 24 or I thought WEC did the Rolex 24 and the 24 hours of Le Mans or I thought imsa did both
It can potentially get confusing with the names of the races being similar. For Le Mans some one off entrants also appear e.g Corvette racing that would normally race in IMSA I believe.
One simplification coming soon is the LMDh regulations which means that the top class of WEC and IMSA will run the same class of car
LMDH is gonna be so huge in 2023
Got high hopes!
if someone is a bronze but wins in a gte am, is he now a silver
Love me the sound of a screaming 911 rsr
The 2019 RSR flat six non turbo is one of the sweetest sounds in motorsport...unfortunately with turbos and smaller engine configurations means the sound shifts from that of an musical instrument to work tool. Sadly as hybrid and turbos become standard we are left with it. Emissions regs. However, so long as you don't let them race alongside multiple cyl normally aspirated one for comparison then they sound ok to me. WRC, WRX DTM SGT four pot turbos sound awesome too.
If I understood this correctly, the FiA ranks every person on earth over the age of 30 as at least a bronze driver. So a possible career path is getting 30 years old and taking part in the WEC, which I think is very funny. I assume that they will only let you in if you have, like a driver's license or something.
Cash is king 💰
You can't just have a license and get in.Either your actually a good driver with an SCCA lisence or you have allt of money and have sponsors I don't see some thirty year old girl with a drivers license racing in One of the hardest motorsports ever
Thing I find unfair is that even if your a good driver in another unrelated fia series unless you have races in f2 you can't get gold rank
While the LM hypercar/LMdh grid is growing, the GTE grid is shrinking. We can't have everything I guess...
They should make a game
How many cars per team?
Usually 2 but teams can also field more or less cars if they want to.
I miss the Audi Race Program!
Yeah especially their last few years in LMP1 which were really great to watch. Luckily Audi is returning to WEC in 2022 under the new LMDh regulations!
Gte cars doesnt have yellow head lights anymore
Yeah I apologise for that; a mistake on my part. My minds still stuck in the past! I tried to rectifying it by adding an annotation but UA-cam has made them extinct so I will add it to the pinned comment and the description. Nice catch!
@@VehicleValhalla no problem!happy to help. Thanks for the video!
I think LMP1 and LMP2 is dead, my attention has shifted to GTE Pro, more entertaining for me at least...
GTE Pro is also way more entertaining for me!
@@VehicleValhalla I think they should remodel the LMP Series to become cheaper.
I think this will be the case, at least with LMP1, due to the ‘hypercar’ regulations coming in the fiture
@@VehicleValhalla That's fantastic!
I wonder why you think LMP2 is dead? It is probably the strongest class in the most recent years.
*In KSI voice* PLATINUM!!!!! 😂
bro why not more videos?
channel needs a bit of re-branding and ure of to space
zukacs Unfortunately, due to some circumstances I am not able to make videos frequently. I would appreciate it if you could suggest some rebranding improvements since I was also considering doing that
@@VehicleValhalla Channel name for sure 😂 then its easy from there I guess
How do you like the new name, logo and banner?
@@VehicleValhalla A lot better for sure )
