  • The Blower Motor was sticking, & getting noisy, it was time to replace the motor.
This is not an easy job on a right hand drive vehicle, the clutch pedal and steering column get in the way. if yours is automatic, or left hand drive happy days.
so enjoy watching me struggle trying to figure this one, as there is not much information out there on this job.
I have posted a follow up video with some more tips and answers to some questions from the comments, thanks • Follow-up Video Peugeo...

I can’t express how much this video helped. I had exactly the same job and the same problems. I tried initially on 23rd Dec, having watched other videos, but gave up. I finally found your video and completed the job today. Same issues as you - hands cut to pieces, difficulty removing clutch assembly, struggle to remove the old blower and lots of time trying to fit the new blower. Many thanks, but never again. 😂

I cut a section out of the air duct above the fan. No need to remove clutch brackets or cable. Just the one mobiliser box. Thanks for the video, cant believe what a nightmare job it is. Managed to get second hand fan from E BAY. (£35) Fitted , now all good.

Anton. This video is amazing. Thanks a lot. With these extra steps (5 minutes) , you get get all the room you need without the horrid wiggling and risk of damaging your new motor:
    (1) Remove clutch mount, plates and pedal
(1a) Remove clutch plate under driver footwell (as the video shows)
(1b) Remove clutch mounting bracket (as the video shows)
(1c) NEW. Lift the clutch mounting bracket and pedal out the top of dash and completely away, disconnect the clutch switch on the way out.
    (2) NEW. Move cable loom out of the way
(2a) NEW. Undo (or cut) cable tie on loom going from firewall to binnacle
(2b) NEW. Remove cable tidy plastic bracket from the metal bracket and push to driver side (10mm self tap bolt)
(2c) NEW. Undo all cable connectors from the binnacle that come into the cluster from the firewall - push the cable bundle with the connector ends down hole where clutch pedal was removed
With the steering column dropped, you now have everything out of the way and a motor-sized space to get them swapped - no wriggling, bags of room.

Thanks for this comment, was a massive help!
Previous mechanic had done this job and I assumed just forced the motor through the gap and had cracked the fan part was making an absolute racket inside the car when turned on. He complained and they just gave him his money back and refused to put it right. So here I am fixing other peoples mistakes again. This comment and the video helped a lot!
Thanks to both of you! Perfect!

Thanks for the informative, detailed video showing the heater blower replacement. I did the wife's 107 this weekend, with great success. The replacement was an EIS pattern item from Euro carparts. Incidentally it was 10mm shorter in height, making installation easier. The only fly in the ointment is that since reassembly, the airbag warning light now flashes! Probably have to get it hooked up to a code reader. Thanks again. 👍

I've just replaced the blower in my Citroen C1. I could not have done it without your video. Your video is wonderful! It took me around 15 hours over 3 days. I had to break the old blower into 2 pieces to get it out (even with the clutch pedal and bracket removed). Fortunately the cover/mount of the new blower was held together with 3 screws, so I could separate it, put the 2 pieces in and then assemble it in situ. Great video. Thank you.

Anton, thanks so much for this video! I did the fan replacement on my Aygo a couple of weeks ago and couldn't have done it without this video. One tip for others attempting this - I struggled with getting the clutch cable disconnected and was worried that if I did get it off, I wouldn't be able to get it back on again. I got someone to press the clutch pedal in all the way, then I jammed the clutch arm on the gearbox using a screwdriver. When the pedal is released, there is no tension in the clutch cable at all, and it can be unhooked much easier. About to do the front disc and pads and will be referring to your videos on this too! Thanks again 🙂

Excellent video.. especially naming the 1/4" rachet, universal joint, 2 exension bars and a deep reach 12mm socket. I went straight to tool shop, bought the exact bits i was short of, and was able to remove that pesky bottom clutch pedal bracket nut without too much trouble. It's impossible to remove otherwise.
I did cut the corner of the heater box, which saved me dropping the steering column. Glued it back solidly with upvc mitre bond in an instant. Still took me about 5 hours but saved me over £500. Thanks a million.

You my friend have saved me a ton of money. Having watched your video about 4 times for the past 3 months finally plucked up the courage to give it a go. The fact you struggled actually helped me as I knew it would be a pain in the ass from the onset. I took your advice and cut a corner of the air intake away and dropped the clutch pedal. Also took the opportunity to change the fan resister why the dash was out.
    Works a dream. Thanks again.
For anyone reading interested ,my fan would work intermittently and also worked when I removed it on the bench. Seems the bearings were on their way out so when it stopped the motor didn’t have enough power to initially overcame the slight resistance from the worn bearings .

Thank you for your video - it's great.
My son and I managed to replace the blower motor in about 3 1/2 hours.
But fortunately I’ve a left-hand drive vehicle, so that the clutch pedal and steering column don’t get in the way.
But it’s anyway a challenge to replace the blower motor, because the gap for replacing is very scarce.
So the solution was to cut out the insulation in the range, where it hinders moving the motor.
After replacement the cut-out insulation can be reinstalled witch two-sided adhesive tape.

Just did the job myself! Took me 5 hours too but that involved an hour or fucking about, as I had to go with the “rough and ready” method you stated in your follow up video by cutting a piece of the vent plastic out. Couldn’t for the life of my get the blower motor past the clutch pedal and the wiring loom above the steering column. I did everything the same as you but I couldn’t see the exact position you put the clutch pedal in, so that may have been my problem. Removing the piece of plastic makes it HUGELY easier. You still need to drop the clutch pedal, but this way you just lift the motor straight up and out. Regardless though, it’s done, and now my sister has a functioning blower motor! Thanks again, your video was a god send!

Great video, wish I thought to check into UA-cam before I did this job yesterday, every step you did was spot on and it took me 4 to 5 hours too
I'm going to add to your video some tips if anyone's reading and you basically mentioned them anyway
    disconnect the key reader wire
be careful doing up speaker tappers with metal ratchets as it's easy to smack and break the screen
check the motor works before building everything up
cut down the heater box top with sidecuts to get motor in, only like 1mm needed
I disconnected clutch cable on gearbox for safety of my finger's
remember to connect up the passenger airbag or car needs a scan tool to remove airbag light on dash

Finally did this today, this video was a great help, it took me 5 hours, the hardest part was putting that ''stupid'' bracket back on that stops the clutch pedal in an accident, I also unplugged the flimsy transponder wire because I just know I would have snapped it because that's how I roll. If anyone wants to have a go at this, then this video is spot on!!!!! I can't find the bottom bolt off the right-hand side of the clutch pedal though, but like I said, that's how I roll.

Many thanks for this video helped a lot in replacing the Blower motor. I went for a spurious copy part at £32.
Couple of things I noticed that might help others, before you fully engage the new motor in housing start the nut on the upper fixing stud I could not get it on with motor in place.
Also make sure you look carefully how the clutch pedal safety plate is fitted when you remove it and replace it before attaching the clutch cable to the pedal.
Suggest testing fan whilst dash is still out before putting it all back together.

    Great video
I was looking at my aunties C1, I thought could it be a fuse, I checked every single one, I thought could it be a heat resistant transistor or a motor, before I got too far, I thought this looked tricky. Well I'm just a tinkerer, before I make a mess I call my garage, they might have a nack for getting in to these things, well after fiddling for hours, my garage said it was a days job to change the motor. After seeing this video one if I had the time I think I could do it, but I totally understand why my garage said how difficult it was, well done for producing this video and shame on the joint Japanese (drive on the same side of the road as UK) and French designers of this car.

Just completed this job today on my daughter’s Citroen C1. Took me best part of 6 hours. On a rhd car you must take off the clutch pedal (4 bolts) but then you cannot remove it with the heater motor still in the way. My solution was to break up the old motor casing (plastic) and this made removal easy. I then removed the clutch pedal from the top (not that easy), cut back the sound insulation in the bulkhead and was able to drop the new motor in (honestly fairly easy). Putting the clutch pedal back, reconnecting the clutch cable and putting everything back all takes time.

Great video. Wish you'd published this a year ago as I did the exact same thing. I had similar blower issue where it made that noise and eventually stopped working. Just a word of caution don't assume it's the blower motor as after I replaced it with a new one it still didn't work. Turned out to be the fan speed switch so I'd recommend checking the blower is getting power first. Would have saved me a day doubled over in the footwell cursing the car designers.

This video helped me allot. Than you :). My blower did run some times when I hit the dashboard, so I know it was a motor error. Since I did not have a new motor I hoped to fix it. To separate the fan from the motor, use a hammer and hit the senter pin. Use a screwdriver to drive it trough. Then remove the plast clips and take out the motor form the plastic. My problem was that the sliding brush had got stuck. Removing the small metal clip and take out the spring. Then test that the connector slides freely. Put every thing back and viola you have a working blower. PS some trouble to get out the fan on a left side drive car, but did not need to remove clutch etc.

One topic I haven't found on UA-cam is cleaning the AC system to get rid of bad smells. I assume that the AC on these citybug cars have the same long term problems as any car AC. Any chance you could do one or point me in the right direction?
