😎 This is exactly the type of waterfall that I want to build now. I was looking for some ideas and THIS is perfect for my small area out front. I rent so I can't really do much and this packs a HUGE punch to the size area. I am still going to watch the rest of your projects because something may change my mind lol but I doubt it, I really like this one!
Go for it! I love this project. And you're right it fits into small areas really well. And once the plants grow in around it it will look like it was always there.
Love the simplicity of this - i have a corner spot in my yard with a large tree that i am looking for ideas to build around and your videos are giving me lots of great ideas for the spring.
Love the sound of the waterfall! We have a similar space and we have been struggling to find the right idea. Thanks for showing the split pipes so the water disperses better. We will try to recreate this with two rows of smaller rocks. Wish us luck!
Good luck! Glad I could help. Yea I was trying to come up with a way to start the waterfall without having to drill through the rock and it occurred to me that if its in a corner, nobody can see the back end. Just note that the liner goes all the way behind it in case any water does trickle out the back, its still contained in the liner. But all you have to hide is the very top where I put that split in the pipe :)
@@travisjantzer 👌👌 I find a 2 wheel fulcrum trolly very handy !👍 Did you check out my friend's amazing tropical garden in Brisbane from the link I provided??

Awesome job! I am looking to do something similar. But, I have an aluminum fountain base, that's approximately 7 ft across. The rocks will be on the backside of the tank and have a similar result
Awesome build bro! Now a few questions... Are the buckets and cut plastic just used to support the river rocks above at the base of the falls?is the pump in one of the buckets? Thanks
Looks really cool, but is there a reason you don't simply leave a small pond at the end. Is it simple and aesthetics choice or is there a benefit in maintenance or something.
Good question, ponds need a little more maintenance and lose water to evaporation easier. The river rock on the surface helps filter out larger debris like sticks and leaves so you don’t need a filter on the pump.
Super lovely! Did the pump hold up well over time with the rocks as filter, or did it gather smaller particles / algae? If no, then did you add chlorine or something? Also (and sorry for all the questions) I didn't fully understand the purpose of the buckets: Was it just to hold the space you created there, so nothing caves in - or did I miss something? Cheers - Beautiful build! 👏
With how the water falls on the edge of the rocks, how are you ensuring water isn't getting out? Just a large pond liner ? Also whats the maintenance on this thing ?
Matthew is right the pond liner extends out past all sides of the rock. Maintenance should just be hosing it off periodically to keep it clean and top off the water as some will inevitably be lost to evaporation. The river rock should filter all large obstructions so I don’t know that you would need to access the pump much at all.
I love this project! Not only does it look great but it's low cost. One question, how do you know when makeup water is needed so the water level doesn't get too low not to burn your pump up?
the water will start looking bubbly when the water gets low. I've ran them dry before and the pump survived. Some pumps have build in shutoffs for when they overheat.
Love it the look. My only concern is someone stepping on the bucket area and falling through it. Doesn’t look like it would support a toddler stepping on it. I’d go with something much stronger to be safe, like plastic grating. Also can use pvc pipe across to create stronger supports to step on.
Looks great Travis! I’m just confused about the buckets. Are they supposed to function as void boxes or something? Do you put the pump inside the buckets? I saw water in the liner so I wasn’t sure
Yea I used them to hold the plastic at the top which holds the river rock. Then yea i was able to put the pump in one of the buckets. Worth noting I punched a few holes in each bucket to allow waterflow.
Where do you think is best to shop for the rocks? I've been watching your videos today and you have so many helpful tips, thanks for sharing your work.
Glad you like them! Depends on where you are. I dig up rocks from my parents property. Some areas have rock quarry's you can shop at. Some Garden and Landscape Supply stores sell rocks by the weight and may even drill a hole for you to use in a fountain.
Is there any way u can make video of how u set up the 2 buckets n water. 🤔 just want tknow that process, do u fill the buckets with watwr n cover them with the grey plastic rectangles and add rocks. Just don't want to make a mistake thanks a bunch.
Hey Travis so I'm trying to do something similar (a rockery steam style one like in one of your other videos) I'm struggling with the concept of how you reach the pump to clean after you have installed it do you have to remove all the rocks to remove the "lid" to gain access? Also why do you use two tubs? Thanks 👍 cool video
Yea so the tubs have holes in them to allow water flow. They're just to hold the platform and rock up out of the reservoir. I used two just for more volume. In this project, yes the river rock has to be moved to access the pump, but in other projects Ive made the pumps easier to access by putting them in containers with lids, or putting just 1 larger flat rock on top of it. Realistically though you should not need to access the pump very often. If you want to send me pictures of your project I can maybe help you brainstorm! :) best of luck . .
The grey plastic that you cut to lay over the buried tubs is it 1 piece just laid on top?. if so doesn't it block the water that needs to go back in to the sunken tubs when you put the weight of the pebbles on it?
Yea so the two buckets had holes in them to allow water flow through them. They were just to hold the weight of the river rock on the surface. The plastic I just cut to cover the hole and rest on the buckets like a lid. The plastic in those tubs is pretty flexible but also hardy. Though If the hole was any bigger than the size of those buckets I would have used something stronger and more rigid. So I just doubled up the plastic for thickness and it extended out past all sides of the reservoir and kept the river rock from falling in. I was able to stand on it. It’s something I’ve been trying, in order to save on cost.
@@travisjantzer Thanks! I have been looking for a DIY alternative to that step. Love your videos. They have been super helpful with my plans for my pondless water feature.
Algae growth isn't horrible when there's not a lot of standing water for it to grow in. but if it does get out of hand there are products you can add that help balance the plant nutrients in the water and reduce algae. the pump should rarely clog as no large debri can get to it.
I really need to know exactly how the pump is attached and is it battery or solar powered because I won’t have outlets and where the water goes so please show installation part @Travis Jantzer

Yes and yes.

Good question, ponds need a little more maintenance and lose water to evaporation easier. The river rock on the surface helps filter out larger debris like sticks and leaves so you don’t need a filter on the pump.
Dude wear a back brace when you do that. Seriously. I blew my back out and it changes everything!

You could also use a lid on the buckets with holes. One acting as a pump vault. This would be much stronger than the plastic over the top.
Did you use one pump or two? The two buckets confused me.
What size pump did you use, and does it plug into an electric socket?
They look really heavy. It’s a wonder your arms aren’t touching the floor when you’re standing up 😂😂 great video, I’m actually learning something 👍👍👍
