I think Ou and Texas are in a good spot coming into the SEC for this to become a reality, they are recruiting very well and last season wasnt too bad for either team, Oklahoma showed massive strides compared to year one under BV, Sark looks to have Texas finally actually back.. Just going off rough memory of major recruits over the past 15 years or so, I'd say those two regions are pretty closely balanced. The numbers are more evenly distributed in the eastern trio you listed, but the sheer numbers from Texas helps to balance out the smaller numbers from Okla. I didn't care for this take, because it completely ignores the reality that the entire conference is centered around Atlanta and Birmingham, so no, the balance of power wouldn't shift to Texas (Dallas, Houston, etc.), because it's physically impossible for that to occur. When Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee are all within a few hours of Atlanta, there's absolutely no chance for any other 'pole' to exist (even more so if, as predicted, Florida State and Clemson join the conference). Yes, there are separate cultures and regions, but Atlanta is the SEC, and this setup is exactly why the SEC is the SEC.

@@Mark-zx2bq Since the Playoffs started how many SEC appearances have been made? How many SEC teams have won the National Championship? The winner of major SEC rivalry games have determined who was going to the national championship, because more often than not that team was the best team in the country. It doesn’t matter if there were play off games or not. The reason why we’re getting an expanded playoff is because of that exact reason. Texas and Oklahoma’s rivalry game may have been important when they were in the Big12, but it isn’t anymore. Compared to teams like Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn it’s just another Egg Bowl.

You could also tell by Saban reaction after the game he was more nervous about that game than ND and OSU. It was fairly close and he was just happy to get the win. Kyle pitts, kadrius Tony, and Trevon Grimes are tough to beat in college. And A&M is the first time they had to play in front of a crowd that season. As an Oklahoma fan I've been laughing at Texas fans being so arrogant going into the SEC and saying all of the crazy things they've been saying....... However, SEC fans do not seem to fully understand who's coming into this conference. This isn't another mid-tier program. These are 2 top five Blue bloods and yes, they now have the best rivalry in the conference hands down. The Iron bowl is comparable to Oklahoma's rivalry with Oklahoma State (Bedlam) where it's so lopsided and both teams are very rarely ranked. The Red River shootout on the other hand is one of the games of the year every single year where two huge blue blood programs battling it out in an insane environment where it's split right down the middle, there's simply nothing else like it. And then you have a game where Alabama and Auburn play each other at home and home when Auburn is rarely anything of importance. 🤷
As an Oklahoma fan I fully understand the tradition rich programs of the SEC and am extremely excited but y'all need to understand who Oklahoma and Texas is as well.

    • @philipmarette

Oklahoma State is more or less Georgia Tech. One NY6 win in the last ten years and obviously overshadowed by their instate rival. Auburn has had more national title game appearances and wins in the last 15 years than Texas and Oklahoma combined. Not really a fair comparison.

    • @jefferyparker4277

You understand the tradition rich programs of the SEC the same way we understand Texas and OU - from a far. Texas and OU join 7 other programs that are capable of EVERYTHING they are. They are not special in this conference. Now, they are just one of the boys. And, OU Texas is just another rivalry. It is not special either. It matters to 2 fan bases - just like all rivalries. By the way, check Texas recent history. Until last year, they went like 15 years in the 8-5 or worse range. So, ,if that was 2 blue bloods - so is UGA Florida or Auburn Bama or Bama LSU or UGA Tennessee or Florida Tennessee.

What you just said was without a doubt the dumbest thing I’ve read online in a long time, and that’s saying something. You do realize the Iron Bowl has on more than one occasion determined who was going to the National Championship right? Of course not, because if you knew anything about SEC football you’d know that Alabama and Auburn are almost always ranked coming into that game. Auburn in 2013 went to the national championship after upsetting Alabama. LSU and Georgia went to the national championship because Auburn upset Alabama. UCF claimed they were national champions, because they beat Auburn after the year Auburn beat both Alabama and Georgia, and still didn’t make the playoffs. The Florida Georgia game used to determine who was going to the National Championship as well. The Red River Rivalry has never had the level of impact that those game have not just in the conference, but on the sport as a whole.

I don’t think TX will do it once they start playing the same schedule as OU got delt this first season.
Thats not OU love by any means, its outside observation on the consistency week to week both teams played in the Big10.
TX got lucky this year on their SEC scheduling, OU not so much.
I’d say if TN had TX schedule this season they’d be a playoff pencil in as well, going 10-2 at worst.
TX does have a great team don’t get me wrong, with great potential. The question is though, can they stay competitive when they must bring their A game every week and stay consistent?
I’m a firm believer TX got entirely to much credit for their win over a horrible Alabama team early in the season and it would have been an entirely different story if the game was played in the second half of the season, Bama was really really bad the start of last season.

That's a bold prediction. There's to many variables and "things" that come up. Texas has potential but there's a rich history in Austin of players having trouble with the law and attending classes etc etc etc. Perhaps they've addressed the character issues but they tend to fold when the lose the Red River Shootout. Regardless I'm just looking forward to great games instead of padded cupcake schedules of the past. SEC is a Demolition Derby Conference and even more so now with the addition of Texas and OU.
