@traehelton5585 Culture fitting be damned, any program would pay top dollar to bring in a new head coach that proceeds to lead said program to back to back double digit win seasons in his first two years after the previous coach tanked the program following a Natty.
Boomer! They’re being slept on for sure. I just hope they get a level playing field from officials, since the conference has already given them the league’s toughest schedule with several of their toughest opponents having bye weeks before OU. If they stay healthy on the Oline, don’t get screwed by officials, and take care of the football on offense, there isn’t anyone they can’t beat. I know Georgia and Alabama are more talented, but the gap isn’t as wide as people think.
No one but people who have actually watched Oregon believe they are good. The basic SEC fan will say Oregon is trash even after Oregon makes the next 5 playoff tournaments. They might concede after the 6th
They never had good coach/teams combination since late 2000s under Mack. Trying to say the current state of the program is expected to be an example of the current state is like saying current Rome is really powerful because it once was years ago. It's a completely new staff from the President to the AD to the Coaching staff to the players. It's not remotely comparable to other years....
@@teddy.d174 actually that’s not really true. There were some seasons at the end of Mack’s tenure when they got the benefit of the doubt but that was because they were really good for a lot of years so they got that winners bump. Then they lost that after a few years of mediocrity and were rarely ever picked higher than 4th to win the big 12, let alone a high rank. The only reason they were still ranked at all most the time is because they still out recruit the majority of the country and that isn’t a Texas thing, that’s just how rankings are usually done. A lot of it is based off your recent 4 years of recruited classes. So there’s nothing abnormal about the rankings other than Texas underperformed
3 years is a window. That is not long enough to be considered a top tier program. That could be one great player. Give me a real bold outlook. Next 10 years.
Josh i think you need a timeout and go on a little vacation. I don’t think you’re thinking clearly when you rank LSU at #11……. seriously bro take a break man.
Actually, at least one ACC team will be in the CFP. It’s in the contract. I personally see a 4/3/1/1/1 conference breakdown, barring multiple top B12/ACC teams at 11-1 with sterling overall resumes). I also think it’ll probably be SEC 4/ B1G3, but _should_ be 5/2. Even ESPN will want more diversity. $0.02
Josh, LTL/FTC. Love your work. Never miss a show (live if I can). Also an LSU guy. A ranking of 11th, on its face, seems low. You suggested there were “internal alignment” issues. Then said (paraphrasing) “I won’t discuss it.” Deferred to “local best.” I think that was a very easy thing to do, but also a bit of a cop-out. If you’re going to pick your hill, stand by it. What if local beat doesn’t agree? What if they just won’t take the bait (don’t want to be negative, could lose a degree of access)? A couple of the top local guys know me well enough to engage via DM, but that’s about it (I.e. not an insider _at_ _all_} and I’ll poke around. But if you’re gonna take a perennial T10 team and leave them out, and then smirk out of an explanation, it seems unfair and a bit neglectful of a core base that generally likes and supports you. Please consider elaborating. I generally agree with your LSU takes, and just love your takes in general (“haven’t vs. can’t” is right up there for me, next to “don’t say you’re sorry, _act_ sorry”). FSU has 2 winning seasons in the last 6 years based off of 2 successful portal classes. That's not sustainable thinking you can be an elite program finding a majority of your starters from the portal every year. Norvell doesn't have 1 FSU player in the NFL that he recruited out of high school. I guess he has a special skill in only developing portal transfers, if you consider that development.
Love your show Mr. Pate , you have emerged as THE voice of College Football. Having said that , its very apparent that you along with most of the SEC media are not very familiar with the Texas Longhorms. Yes im an OU fan but im an objective one and i can say with 99% certainty that to pick Texas as an automatic SEC contender or in your future top 5 program in the country will only tarnish your reputation. Anyone who is truly familiar with this program knows that culture, development have been the Achilles heel of this team for years. Years of top recruiting classes , unlimited resources, plus the annual July hype machine have turned into one disappointing season after another. Last year was the best team they have had in 15 years but still couldn't beat a double digit underdog Oklahoma. They beat bama in week 1 , we all know that wasnt even close to a typical Saban team, if they play that game in week 8 you and i both know Bama wins that game , big. They couldnt beat Washington in the playoffs, in fact you can make a case that they didnt have a good quality win. Quinn Ewers hasnt shown he can win a big game yet. They lost 11 players to the NFL They havent been able to dominate the Big 12 but somehow they are going to go dominate the SEC. By your logic the SEC isnt as tough as you say it is . Thanks for reading , thank you for your great show each week

the fact that theres no BIG12 team on this list AT all is a casual stance IMO. If a team like Utah wins the Big12 twice they would automatically be on this list and tbh a team like Utah would only have to win the Big12 once and do decent the next 2 years and automatically be top 15.

Sark just won the conference championship and got Texas to a national playoff game in 2023, but he still hasn’t proved himself? What kind of hater are you, an atm or a OU?
How bout an upper staff who all get along and the power of the BMDs and Regents actually funnels through the prove, successful President and Athletic Director of the university. Remember when Texas was a "cesspool"? Well it was, and it was a tug of war between the donors and those in power. There was a weak Athletic Director in place. Fast forward to Chris Del Conte (who just won the award for best AD in the country), and he's been on fire making good hires left and right, and funneling all the support in one direction under him. Sark has fixed the standard and has implemented a success culture (Herman had a toxic culture). It was irrelevant all the resources Texas has had if all those are issues. They arent issues anymore and Texas still is second to none in resources. Thats why they are and should be top 5. I think theyre interchangeable with Oregon and the only reason that is, is because Phil Knight is writing blank checks for Oregon so he can try to get a chip before his time ends as hes currently 86yo.
Hopefully all you people will let us know the exact criteria for “proving yourself”. 😂 Here’s what Texas has that they haven’t always had: 1) Proven depth, leadership and culture in every position room in the roster. 2) 3 years of coaching stability on both sides of the ball. 3) An athletic director who is absolutely coming after everyone in the country - beautifully ruthless. Texas has finally started to figure out how to be Texas. And y’all aren’t goin to like it.
I’ve been a lifelong Michigan fan, and I used to think the Ohio State preseason hype was over the top. But now, this hype around Oregon is just ridiculous. They haven’t shown anything to deserve this much attention.
I'm not sure I'd put them ahead of Texas but I do think theyre top 5. The reason being, as has been reported like we are seeing with their current recruiting class, is Phil Knight is 86 years old and desperate for them to win a natty before his time ends. So he's opened up a blank check for Oregon to use in recruiting. Sheer talent that theyre getting will put them up there the next 3 years. That being said, I'm not sure if Dan Lanning will stay there when other programs may have vacant head coach positions like Florida (as a rumor) and that would change things. But for the sake of guessing, I'm going to assume he stays and Oregon and assume Phil still has a few years of infinite support to give.
@@cameronmiller7980why would Dan Lanning Oregon? He turned down the Alabama job, so he isn’t taking the Florida job. Like you said, he has unlimited recruiting, facilities, resources and NIL money at Oregon, so I don’t know why’d he leave that.
They haven’t shown anything? Really? They’ve recruited top 5 classes 3 years in a row now, and we know recruiting is the biggest indicator of on field success. Plus they routinely finish the season ranked in the top ten, so it’s not like they aren’t producing successful results.
I feel like I should elaborate so Josh doesn’t get on me for just accusing him of being wrong but not answering it myself, Alabama will undoubtedly have a good year, it would be a bigger shock if the didn’t. A good year for Bama standards though… eh? 2 losses maybe 3? I think their performance against top sec talent will determine whether or not they will have more “good” seasons the following two years or two “Alabama good” seasons those following two years. Despite the newest additions to the conference I’m confident they’ll be reflected on as a top 3 conference program 5 years from now, but I’m confident in chalking up next season (so 1/3 of the seasons in this small pool) as an “inevitably good given the existing talent and program test year” for the tide. With that being said who should number two have been? O-H 😜
Josh, we (LSU) are officially signing away our joint custody rights. Iowa St can have you. Please don't bring the Saturday tour to Baton Rogue, it's no longer welcome.
How long will Ohio State fans back Day if he can't deliver a national championship within the next two years? I would ask Ohio State fans to consider what Meyer or Tressel would do with this upcoming season's talent.....
If Ryan Day is so terrible, why do other fan bases want him fired? The standard is always the same. This year is no different. This time next year, Ohio State will be talking about getting a Natty. Like Josh says, they are not a window program. They are able to reload.
Some weird bots here. Anyway, put me down as one of those receipts to save about Texas A&M. I will find it funny if (when) they continue to be the same as they always have and do less with more than a vast majority of others. Also pleasantly surprised to see Oklahoma as high as they are. You seem to be different than so many other national people that just expect Oklahoma to fall apart in the years to come. Saw this segment on the show last night. On an unrelated note, still hope the name for the tour will be the "NEW Eras" tour. It can reference several new eras for the sport, like for each of the teams, for the conferences with these new teams in them, and for the power 2 conferences to clearly start their new dominance of the sport. And a play on the name of the Taylor Swift tour would certainly make for some interesting interactions on Twitter for you.
All A&M has ever needed to do is get a good o-line that can protect their QB. 3 straight years of having your starting QB injured and you’d think that would be a priority. The last time A&M went a full season with a healthy QB was when they went 9-1 in 2020. Interested to see how that plays out this year and if it’ll be 4 straight years of QB injuries.
@@Championclips15 We had Kellen Mond for years... Our issue wasn't our o-line. Jimbo just didn't know what to do with star talent. He was the Bill O'Bryan of CFB. There were so many plays or schemes I saw that either didn't make sense or were braindead. And talent development was non-existent. I will say, our S&C and O-line coach were kinda poopy too, but I blame it more on the system
LSU is recruiting at a higher level than ND, Michigan, Texas A&M, Oklahoma. They have better staff than those programs, Brian Kelly is a proven winner. You said all these things Josh and i think its unfair that if youre talking in a 3 year timeline that those other programs are higher ranked. I think it is a whiff, and LSU can go toe to toe resources, recruiting, fan buy in, etc with anyone in tjr country
OU owns Texas 68% of the wins since 2000, and Texas has always out recruited OU. But OU has Soul Mission to develop players as men. Texas has Matthew McConaughey... And Bevo. OU has way, way more conference championships. OU has BV, a defensive minded Coach that everyone wanted when he was at Clemson. Texas has Sark, a offensive minded coach. One who once showed up drunk to practice, and didn't show up to another and was fired. He also has not won 10 games in a season except 1 time, and has had a much longer career. He also single handedly lost the OU game in 2023. OU Lost 2 games last year in the regular season, without their Studd on Defense, And with blatantly obvious help from Big 12 officials, when the Big 12 commissioner was present after he publicly said that the Big 12 teams needed send OU and Texas out with losses. I think his quote was something like, this ain't Switzerland, folks. Then the Big 12 officials in the Kansas OU game made up fake penalties and OU at OSU watched as OSU tackled Stoops before the ball got there, a text book PI and it showed 2 or 3 officials right in position staring at it and no flag, which totally cost OU the game. And that cost OU a last opportunity at the Big 12 title. OU has some of the best facilities. It has the best Women's Softball Facilities and the best Coach in the world at women's softball. OU should be #5 over Texas, 100% of the time. Until Texas Proves they can Beat OU consistently. Which they have not done since we'll before 2000. Prove me wrong.
Your take on LSU is horrible. To think, you owe the 2019 Tigers for your whole show, and you thank them by putting ND, Oklahoma, A&M in front of them despite evidence to the contrary. You ought to be ashamed of yourself, and ill be around to remind you.
I do not see Miami being in your top 15 for top programs over the next three seasons as unreasonable. Why did they have a bad record last year? Because their QB turned into a turnover machine. Causing around 12 turn overs in a four game stretch after the Texas A&M game. Miami had a first time starting true freshman QB and beat Clemson, and gave FSU all they could handle with that same true freshman QB in his second start. Miami was a good QB away last year from being serious. But Miami fans thinking that just because they have a good QB for this season means they will win it all are being very unreasonable and unrealistic. Miami seems to be rising, sure, but they still have a lot to prove on the field.
This is very bold, and i believe will make you change it up every single year for the next 3yrs. Apparently you didnt go in depth enough using 3yrs prior for some and 4yrs for others. Half of these schools played very soft schedules over the years. Then try to make an argument for Oklahoma having a horrible record last year because they played a tough schedule? Really? You aren't a top tier program if you don't win the games against tough opponents, and that matters. This definitely won't age well at all, especially with some of these National Championship aspirations.
Bad/boderline atrocious take by Josh, and here’s why 1. Oregon at 4 over Texas at 5. What has Oregon done or doing that Texas isn’t/hasn’t? Lose when being favored by double digits TWICE, to the same team. Miss the playoffs, no notable wins. They have a recruiter as a coach who cannot manage games. Texas went into Bama and won. Texas recruits on par with them if not better, has all the $$ facilities, made the playoffs, and has a proven national championship guy in Sark calling plays. Lanning is a GM/recruiter trying to be a coach. 2. Texas A&M at 10. Also known as Texas 8-4. Just stop Josh, I don’t even need to mention performance on the field, it’s been awful. And they aren’t recruiting like they once did. And they are still in the SEC with Georgia, Bama, Texas, LSU, Tennessee, and Ole Miss all better than them. They have to prove it, no future forecasting will be excepted here. 3. Miami at 13. Talk about a lofty future projection here. Cristobal is again a recruiter not a great coach (ask Georgia Tech), they have done nothing on the field to prove it, and yeah get a few recruiting wins here and there. Once they surpass Clemson and Florida State in the ACC then we can talk if they’ll be top 15. Who would I put over A&M and Miami? Utah and Ole Miss namely.
Texas has a really disappointing performance on the field until the past 2 years. I think they’re ranked too high until they have another year like last year.
@@CiviTac Sure, but they have a notable program defining win @Bama and made the playoffs. Oregon has neither. Not arguing Texas should be over Ohio State, Bama, or Georgia here, just Oregon.
I'm not arguing with your list, but there are a few notable absences I'd think about. Utah, Ole Miss, USC and mabye North Carolina come to my mind and I would argue for any of them over some teams in the list.
While I think the Clemson roster is built more for sustained success over 3 years than FSU or Miami due to relative lack of roster turnover, QB play will make the difference. The past 3 years are mainly a result of 5 star QBs not living up to the hype. (Better WR play looks promising)

Dabo Swinney is the best program builder in College Football. No one does more with less. The narrative that the program is on the decline is a hot take and complete garbage. Last year did not start off well at all. Turnovers, bad OL coaching, and injures were the reason that Clemson did not make the playoffs. I am going to look forward to watching how all the haters address a 10+ win Clemson football program this year. I am sure they will say it was a one year wonder or some other crap like that. Dabo will just sit back and watch college football self implode and his program will be positioned perfectly.
JP is wrong on ND. Freeman is not a better coach than Brian Kelly so I’m not expecting them to be any better than the 9.5 wins a year. Boot them down several spots. I’ll take Michigan, LSU, Tennessee, Utah, and Ampersand U over ND. And if they didn’t feast on the services academies, they would win 7-8 games a year.
People who have never followed a recent duck season really be questioning professional analysts that have watched them play games in these conferences. Yall really forgot about an injured Oregon team beating Ohio State at their home, but nah pack 12 has garbage defenses.
With the portal, they way it is, things could change. There are programs that don't have the riches as some schools but, they could change the landscape. With the right picks, quickly.
True, but there are some blue blood programs like my Nittany Lions 🦁 who have tons of money 💰, and don't believe or embrace the NIL bullshit yet!!!! WE ARE going to have to eventually embrace it though!!! 😂
The Tennessee love is much appreciated, Josh. I have to vehemently disagree with A&M being included. Mike Elko might have that same pop in his first 3 years as Heupel had at UT but I seriously doubt it. He's a great guy and a good coach, but that's a stretch. I can tell you without a doubt I'm glad Mike Elko wasn't A&M's coach when we played them last year, we got lucky that Jimbo was still "coaching" when they visited.
OK, MICH, A&M should have all been swapped with where (the real) UT, LSU, and add Ole Miss. You can still have the former in the top 15, just don't think proven programs should be behind lackluster ones or ones that win or come in second in mediocre 2-3 team conferences 🤷♂ -same for A&M, just unproven new coach... Gotta let that play out a year before you're in the top 10ish, you just lost to multiple teams placed behind you so
LSU out of the top 10 is crazy to me lol especially with the faith in the future of Texas A&M and OU I would be appalled if lsu averaged finishing behind those two teams in the SEC in the next 3 years
As an Ole Miss fan I love this show but I knew Josh wouldn’t put Ole Miss in the top 15 before I even clicked on the video. I don’t think he hates Ole Miss or anything but he’s never been super high on us in his power ratings. For example, in his SEC rankings he did a while back, he said that he based his ranking on the PREVIOUS 3 seasons, but he had LSU over Ole Miss even though Ole Miss beat them 2 out of the 3 years and had a better record than them during that stretch. So seeing teams like Miami and Texas A&M over Ole Miss on this ranking was no shock. If I had to guess, I think Josh must believe that Kiffin’s gonna leave Ole Miss sooner rather than later, or he believes that our NIL Collective won’t be able to keep pace with the programs that made the list. Ole Miss also doesn’t recruit high school in the top 15 so that probably hurts us a lot in his rankings. It’s a shame because for first time since like the 60s, the media actually views Ole Miss as a legitimate contender this year, but we can’t even manage to make the top 15 of his list. It sucks but Ole Miss has never really been a perennial blue blood powerhouse so I understand I guess
I think there’s still a lot to prove for them. It seems they have seriously bolstered their lines of scrimmage but it’s mostly with transfers so will they work out? That offense is going to be dynamic so if they can get a few stops here and there they could be dangerous but can you rely on bringing in transfers every year? Lane needs to recruit the HS ranks better
100% he just thinks we don't recruit well enough for sustained success. But the Grove Collective is literally the most efficient NIL collective in the country; we'll pop off this year and next year, too. Next summer we'll be top 10 on these lists
I think ole miss could make the playoffs this year, the only reason that I think he didn't put them in is the possibility of Kiffin leaving for florida after this season.
Ole Miss literally does not meet the criteria he listed for ranking the teams. They aren't recruiting at a high level, the program does not have all the resources and capabilities as other programs.

How doesn't Brian Kelly not fit the culture?
@traehelton5585 Culture fitting be damned, any program would pay top dollar to bring in a new head coach that proceeds to lead said program to back to back double digit win seasons in his first two years after the previous coach tanked the program following a Natty.
@traehelton5585 winning is the only "culture" that matters.

Amazing!
I know Georgia and Alabama are more talented, but the gap isn’t as wide as people think.
he has them as a top 8 program over the next 3 years, I wouldn't call that being "slept on", just saying...
No one but people who have actually watched Oregon believe they are good. The basic SEC fan will say Oregon is trash even after Oregon makes the next 5 playoff tournaments. They might concede after the 6th
As an OU fan it's not disrespect at all, we haven't proven enough to be higher than that since BV has been here
I would put Tennessee above A&M BUT, I can live with Tennessee at 12, they will be in the mix on a yearly basis...
Man…..media is way too bullish on Texas. They have a good team and good coach. But they’ve had that before when losing 4-5 games in the b12
The media loves them some Texas, no matter their record or other variables. It’s actually pretty obnoxious.
Lol why does Texas make people so mad 😂😂😂

Josh, LTL/FTC. Love your work. Never miss a show (live if I can). Also an LSU guy.
A ranking of 11th, on its face, seems low. You suggested there were “internal alignment” issues. Then said (paraphrasing) “I won’t discuss it.” Deferred to “local best.”
I think that was a very easy thing to do, but also a bit of a cop-out.
Could you please step up and elaborate?

Hey, Josh, you are slowly coming around on Oklahoma. But, yes, you are too low on them. They will be top 5 in the next 3 years with a Natty. IYKYK!
Agreed. I am not impressed with Sark's track record. He has won 10+ games exactly ONCE,. History suggests he is a 7-9 win coach. Far from elite.
Hopefully all you people will let us know the exact criteria for “proving yourself”. 😂
Here’s what Texas has that they haven’t always had:
1) Proven depth, leadership and culture in every position room in the roster.
Plus, now Oregon is in a conference that knows how to play defense. They aren't gonna be winning games in the BigTen 52-48!
He lost me after he puts Ohio State at three what have they done lately to be in top three schools this is a bad take
@@cameronmiller7980why would Dan Lanning Oregon? He turned down the Alabama job, so he isn’t taking the Florida job. Like you said, he has unlimited recruiting, facilities, resources and NIL money at Oregon, so I don’t know why’d he leave that.
They haven’t shown anything? Really? They’ve recruited top 5 classes 3 years in a row now, and we know recruiting is the biggest indicator of on field success. Plus they routinely finish the season ranked in the top ten, so it’s not like they aren’t producing successful results.
Let’s see how many consecutive Josh is going to get correct…
1. Georgia ✅
2. Alab- ❌

The expectation with what happened in the offseason is a ring in 24. Anything less would be viewed as a failure.
GO NOLESSS

FINALLY DUCK TIME
Over looking SMU for the next 3 years, they are coming, and I am an Alabama guy
Why did he crown Georgia as the top program but in his cfb playoff prediction video he heavily undermines GA
Don't be surprised if Michigan surprises you.
Oklahoma is a good program that will be shell-shocked when they play an entire SEC schedule.
Bad/boderline atrocious take by Josh, and here’s why
There’s a reason why Oregon was a 10 point favorite over UW and Texas was a 4 point. Oregon was 6 points better than Texas last year
Also Bama was garbage in week 2 and they were still favored by an entire touchdown over Texas
@@RadicallyOptimistic That's not how oddsmaking works
What You guys think of Akron +50.5..... I got a feeling it cashes
Josh could you check to see what the chances are that Texas A&M could move to the Big 10 because of UT joining the SEC?
It's fake news
Utah should be top 15
I'm not arguing with your list, but there are a few notable absences I'd think about. Utah, Ole Miss, USC and mabye North Carolina come to my mind and I would argue for any of them over some teams in the list.
Sco Ducks
While I think the Clemson roster is built more for sustained success over 3 years than FSU or Miami due to relative lack of roster turnover, QB play will make the difference. The past 3 years are mainly a result of 5 star QBs not living up to the hype. (Better WR play looks promising)
Your team has been in decline, you can't deny what your lying eyes have been showing you, trust me I know because I've been through it twice now as an FSU fan, Dabo better turn into a portal using Jessy or else
As and FSU fan I hate to say, both FSU and Miami have a better roster than Clemson. Norvell is best coach in ACC as well
@@bryanmoore5616 "Norvell is best coach in ACC". What is this nonsense? Guy was on the verge of getting fired now he is better than a coach that has won not one but 2 national championships....I love how people allow the talking head narrative confuse common sense.
All those SEC teams in the top 15? You know they have to play each other once in a while, right? No USC?
The next up: Washington, Utah, USC, Ole Miss, Auburn...?
JP is wrong on ND. Freeman is not a better coach than Brian Kelly so I’m not expecting them to be any better than the 9.5 wins a year. Boot them down several spots. I’ll take Michigan, LSU, Tennessee, Utah, and Ampersand U over ND. And if they didn’t feast on the services academies, they would win 7-8 games a year.
Washington deserves atleast a mention
People who have never followed a recent duck season really be questioning professional analysts that have watched them play games in these conferences. Yall really forgot about an injured Oregon team beating Ohio State at their home, but nah pack 12 has garbage defenses.
LSU way too low. I don't blame Pate. He doesn't understand LA recruiting or LA talent. They should be in the 4 to 7 range.
Gotta let that play out a year before you're in the top 10ish, you just lost to multiple teams placed behind you so
I would take out Miami for sure ole miss or the quiet but massive rebuild luke fickel is doing at Wisconsin may shock everyone.
Will Lane Kiffin be there for 3 years?
I think ole miss could make the playoffs this year, the only reason that I think he didn't put them in is the possibility of Kiffin leaving for florida after this season.
Ole Miss literally does not meet the criteria he listed for ranking the teams. They aren't recruiting at a high level, the program does not have all the resources and capabilities as other programs.
My noles got a top defense in the country a majority came back!!
Does your ranking of Florida State assume the flight from the ACC to another conference?
T A&M will never be good, they will always be mid at best. Its a curse that will never be broken.
A&M have always had great recruiting but never seem to reach their potential.
