- The PORSCHE 911 R debuted in 2016 and is a special model with a limited production run of 991 units, but the 911R is the first model in the recently launched 911 Sport Classic, Dakar, and other heritage series.
The chassis of the 911R uses the same monocoque as the "GT3RS," the strongest grade in the 911 series, and the 4L naturally aspirated flat-six delivers a maximum output of 500hp at 8,250 rpm and maximum torque of 460Nm/6,250 rpm, which cannot be expressed in the specifications as a racing engine itself The high-tuned engine, which can be described as a high-revving racing unit, has a sharp response.
The exterior parts of the front section have been replaced with luxurious dry carbon, a magnesium roof has been adopted, and the car weighs a lightweight 1,250 kg, a reduction of minus 50 kg from the GT3RS. This lightweighting technique is the same as that used for the air-cooled engine 964RS. Comfort equipment such as air conditioning and sound insulation were eliminated, and everything from engine parts to harnesses was thoroughly lightened.
The adoption of a 6-speed manual gearbox is the result of the pursuit of weight reduction and driving pleasure. This gearbox uses special ratios, and a shift knob with a quick short shift stroke allows quick upshifting and downshifting operations with a simple flip of the wrist.
The 4L flat-six unit, which benefits from a single-mass flywheel for sharp revving and quick shift work, has a wildly exciting idling vibration and sound. When lightly blipping the car, the body shudders from side to side, which is reminiscent of a muscle V8 engine.
When I drove the car on a winding road, it was snowing and the road surface was sherbet-like, but the car was very stable.
This solid and exhilarating ride is only possible with the 911R, which is equipped with a high power unit on a lightweight and strong chassis. The rear axle steer, which achieves small turns at every intersection, is also effective on the street. The combination of the small-diameter steering wheel and short-stroke shift knob allowed me to operate the car with the minimum necessary movement, and I fully enjoyed steering the lightweight 991R around town.
The series of movements such as accelerating, decelerating, turning, and accelerating again clearly gave the illusion of driving a smaller and lighter sports car. I was able to fully enjoy the driving pleasure that Porsche's development team has been aiming for.
Personally, I would like to own a "911" as a car for the rest of my life.

Very good review, I like your passion and I really enjoy the way you talk about cars but please note the modern watercooled porsche 911s are heavier than 1250 kg. Even the 2.7 cayman is heavier than 1300kg. The 911R is 1370kg.

Well, whichever car you prefer is up to you but you should note that a few things aren't what makes this car worth it. It's a luxury car and it's value is subject to improve with time anyways. Apart from that it's lightness is incomparable and really adds to the drive feel in ways other cars don't. Try it out before dismissing it! Thank you for watching.

Compared to GT3 touring, you can immediately feel the comfortable ride and lightness. But only a little.
