    I'm happy to see you enjoy driving on the Autobahn. But please try to apply to a few tips to make it safer.
    1. 3-lane Autobahns are a lot safer for this kind of speed. Especially for over 250kph. Because you have one lane between you and the real slow stuff (trucks etc.)
    2. If you go over 220kph or so stay on the left lane. Only make way if someone actually comes from behind. (so don't forget your mirrors) To me it is very confusing if someone in front of me changes lanes at this speed because I don't know if he sees me coming with even higher speed.
    Also the slower cars don't know what you are up to if you go that fast in the right lane.
    3. Use your indicators, even at those speeds. You never know who sees them.
    4. Don't cut corners. Stay in one lane and do your speed in that one. You could have stayed in the left lane for the entire video. Reason is that if something does go wrong you can react to it. If something goes wrong while cutting corners you are f...cked.
    Especially point 4 takes a while to get used to especially in right turns but either you are capable (and brave enough) to do it or you shouldn't go that fast in the first place.
    Oh and finally: Please don't go on the Autobahn with the goal to hit a specific number!!! Enjoy the ride and go as fast as it makes sense but trying to achieve a certain speed is what makes things dangerous.
    That's why I don't like these "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunities. People tend squeeze evvery little bit out of the situation even when it is safer to let go of the throttle for a second.
    Sorry for this little rant. I don't want to be disrespectful but I want things on the Autobahn to be safe.

      Guter Kommentar. Aber wenn man nur 2x im Jahr Autobahn fährt, dann fehlt einfach die Erfahrung. Dann noch mit Rechtslenker. Sorry, aber das ist fahrlässig. Wieso gehen die nicht auf die Rennstrecke?

      Es tut mir leid, aber ich kann nicht zustimmen... after 4 years in DE I found that in 3 lane sections everyone sits in the middle lane... the right lane empty except for trucks. It's possibly the most frustrating thing about driving in Germany.
      If that weren't the case, they could have recorded this at any time of day, but the fact is that people sit in the fastest lane 'for them', creating a huge amount of traffic congestion. Instead, they had to record this just before dawn.
      Now, maybe that's just BW (where I lived and where this was shot), so I'm open to rebuttals...

    2:00 Dutch caravan, the nightmare of everyone driving fast on German Autobahns. When he sets his indicaters and changes lane almost immediately, the Porsche is still doing about 170 km/h, so there's about 70 km/h in speed difference with less than 100 m distance between them.
    They are famous for changing to the left lane regardless if there's a fast car approaching. I've had so many close calls as a driver and as a passenger with them, it's not even funny.
    Caravan + yellow number plate -> danger

    • @Dgannt
      @Dgannt 8 років тому +8

      They should be forbidden in all other EU countries, or restrict all caravans ONLY to roads with a maximum of 70 km/h speed limit. Even better, restrict them to roads that are specific for caravan use ONLY, so the rest of us can drive in peace and harmony.

    Disclaimer : Don't try this in your jacked up Mustangs, Camaro or Chargers. Just because they can hit 160 or higher, doesn't mean they're stable at those speeds. This shows just how much a car can move around at those speeds. One minute error, it's over. Great video!!!

      everyone actually can because in germany people expect other drivers to drive properly and there is probably no place where using the turn signal is more important than on the autobahn. idiots who don't know how to drive ruin it for everybody. sooner or later they will restrict the autobahn because of reckless arseholes like him who endangers mothers with their children driving down the road because they think this is a race drag.

    • @ak47suki242

      I'm wondering what indicating would actually achieve?

    • @KirilG1
      @KirilG1 8 років тому +14

      Rules on the autobahn are not optional. One of the rules is "always use your blinkers". If the Germans say always use your blinkers, you should always use them, period! There is no speed restriction of when to use them. The most important reason why the greatest roads on earth exist is because they have a set of rules. And here is the problem with most of the foreign drivers on the autobahn : the vast majority of them think, that the rules are optional, or they believe they know better... What a bunch of retards. All and all, the driver in the video should be getting a ticket. Plain and simple!

    2:03 We call that an elephant's race in Germany. When the speed of the overtaking vehicle is clearly not high enough to justify the risky maneuver. In this case the caravan should drive at around 130 km/h to do a quick and safe overtake. Stuff like this happens a lot on the Autobahn. However it's ten times worse when you drive there during vacation, because all the Dutch, Germans and some other people head to Italy, France or Croatia and the Autobahn is crowded af with all these dangerous people.

      Well, from what I've read, they take the "left lane for passing" rule kind of seriously, so I guess it's in people's best interest to make any attempt to try and stay in that lane. I didn't quite catch any in this video, but again, I've read they have cameras and ticket people for improper "autobahn etiquette". Includes stuff like tailgaiting as well!

    Deeply impressive. Fabulous car and I can tell from the video well (and safely) driven. I've touched 165mph on a derestricted section of the autobahn (my fastest ever in a car), but that was one of the three lane sections with a little bit more room to play with. To my mind high speed feels almost exponentional - 140mph compared to 120 feels much faster than 120 versus 100 for example. Speed is a very emotive experience - self preservation kicks in (and care for those you are sharing the road with too). It certainly focusses the mind. This is serious speed.

    Maaan those bumps at 3:09.. At 300+ kph!! Right when passing a car at like 200 kph difference... You rather than me man, laying your life in the hands of strangers like that.

    • @maxg1437
      @maxg1437 8 років тому +1

      Having done that in my RS4, I feel confident watching that scene. Yes, bumps will rattle your nerves. But you don't go that fast on your first time in such a car. At least I didn't. I slowly kept increasing the top speed while learning the behaviour of the car in certain situations.

    • @petertimowreef9085

      Well yea but that's my point, you can train yourself but you can't train other road users.
      About ten years ago my dad and I were driving down the Autobahn in a S-Type R. And then some fool in a van decided to switch lanes for no reason. Full on brakes of course but at those kinds of speed differences that van comes up to you just as fast. We were very lucky he saw us about halfway, but at that point we allready had two wheels on the grass... Somehow we made it through though, but I'll never forget that you can always count on random members of the public to pull something stupid.

    • @BorisBr1tva
      @BorisBr1tva 8 років тому

      Thats how you drive 400+ hp sport cars. But i cant understand his confidence, being a 997.2 turbo owner, you need to spent lots of time with this car to properly understand it. Maybe new gen is a way more computer and more advanced chassis.

    • @petertimowreef9085
      @petertimowreef9085 8 років тому

      I think it's mr. Catchpole at the wheel, he has more than 10 years experience writing for EVO magazine, which primarily writes about performance cars. Over the years he must've driven plenty of 911s and other fast cars, on track as well as off. I reckon that's where that confidence comes from.
      But it's not about how smart you are, it's about how dumb the road-users around you are. For example: If for whatever reason that silver Ford Puma (I think it was) had decided to switch lanes, there's nothing the Porsche could do. You're just done for.

  • @e36mmm
    @e36mmm 8 років тому

    clearly the 911 is at home at those speeds. see the lane change at high speed and balance? no wobble, nothing.. pure german engineering. such a magnificent machine. yes do not try this with a car not designed for those speeds. it was electrifyingly brilliant to see the 911 not break a sweat. Forever Porsche!
