  • I have been using the Canon Camera Connect App on my iPad with my Canon 5D Mark IV and love it. After purchasing my new Canon R5 C I wanted the same functionality. Here is a step by step walk through on how to connect your Canon R5 C with the Canon Camera Connect App on your iPad.
    As a photographer I find it really helpful to show images to my clients in this large format during a photo shoot. Being on-location I move around my set up so this wireless tethering option is key. Plus I don't need another device attached to my camera to have this work, it's all within the camera communicating with the device. This streamlines my gear too.
    Have a question? Let me know in the comments.
    For gear:
    I'm using the brand new iPad 15" with the M1 chip, however I have successfully completed this set up with an older iPad.

    It ask me to register my Canon R5 and once it's registered the wifi connection say's "Permission is not set correctly. Check the setting and grant permission" The iPad see's the R5 and it wont connect because of the permission issue.

      Hi. I'm happy you found the video helpful. My method to download video to my Mac is to take the CFExpress card in the camera and use a CFexpress card reader attached to my Mac to download the video. I hope this helps.

    May I ask if you use Capture One on client shoots? I like to always shoot into C1 (to be able to make adjustments ets.) but I will also like to connect to the Canon Camera Connect (to use my phone as a remote). I find that I can't do that - do you know if this is possible? Thanks in advance Nicole 🫶

    • @NicoleBedardPhotography
      @NicoleBedardPhotography  4 місяці тому

      Hi! The iPad + Canon Camera Connect app is to only review the images in real time and tag with a star. There is no editing capabilities like C1 or Lightroom. The images are not even stored on the device, but only on the memory card in the camera. That's the main purpose.
      If I was in a studio setting or doing a studio product shoot and wanted to be tethered I use Lightroom and not C1. It's what I started with over a decade ago and that is what I am comfortable with. Either is fine. I can remote shoot via lightroom
      There is a "live" view in the camera connect app that would allow you to take an image from the camera, if that is what you are looking for. Let me know if this helps or if I confused the question.

    Do you know if there is a setting to view the jpg version of the pic. I shoot RAW &jpg and when I connect, it only shows the Raw.

    • @NicoleBedardPhotography
      @NicoleBedardPhotography  Рік тому

      I'm unsure how to view just the jpg version. Having the RAW doesn't slow the app down, in my experience and if you send an image to your camera roll I believe it's a smaller file.

    Hello Nicole, have you tried connecting your camera with a tethering cable? Whenever I do that my camera turns in a transfer mode and I can't shoot

    • @NicoleBedardPhotography
      @NicoleBedardPhotography  5 місяців тому

      Hi! Tethering still doesn't work with Canon R5C and Lightroom. I recently tested and it still didn't work. I have heard people having success with Capture One. I don't have that software and would like to stick with Lightroom.

    • @NicoleBedardPhotography

      You definitely don’t want the iPad to sleep, but it’s more about the Wi-Fi connection. If you move too far away from iPad the connection will break and you need to re-establish it.
      Sorry for the delay

      The wifi connection is via your camera. The R5 C has wifi so that is what you are connecting to. So yes, you can be outside in an remote area and still have the images flow to your ipad. The ipad is looking to connect to the camera. You are good to go! Have a great shoot.

    I wish the Canon Camera Connect App would come up with a way to display the images in a grid view also so my headshot clients are able to view their images and compare one to the other more easily.

      @@NicoleBedardPhotography Nicole, I can only see them in a single column in the thumbnail view. Are we able to see more than the single column? Sometimes I will pinch and expand to enlarge them where they can view 3 at a time but that is all. I wish there was a way to see them in multiple columns to fill the screen. People do really enjoy viewing them on the Ipad. You have to watch out for some clients, they will try to shoot a photo of the screen.

      This app can be frustrating. My first step would be to shut down your iPad fully. Shut off camera. And then try to connect again. I have also found that if the area you are in has a strong wifi that will negatively effect the performance too, like if you are in your house etc. But give that a try and see if it helps.

    • @tmhart43
      @tmhart43 10 місяців тому
