Honestly this entire recording session was me and Davis making naughty jokes about beloved 70’s children TV characters, the UNIT family. By the end I was howling.
In all honesty, I do really like the Time Monster. So much to the point where I´ve made a tradition to just watch all of it on New Years. And yes the timebird might be silly, but man is it entertaining whenever it shows up, which is good because they use it sparingly enough. Plus a mostly Master centric episode, how can you not.
"Nobody has stepped in and stopped it from existing" More that can be said for a lot of serials from the previous decade

Darren William Plant was the infants name, and yes, this crushing fact is true. He passed at the age of 1 from SIDS. In the audio commentary of this episode, John Levene (Bentons lead actor), confirmed that fact.
I praise this episode, not just for the TARDIS and Doctor moments. Not just for the adventure. But for Darren Plant. I guarantee that during hard times, the entire cast and crew were doing their best to cheer him up. He would've done the same.

Atlantis was a whole Thing in the 70's though! It loomed large as part of the larger New Age religion fad. You had Godzillza vs. Megalon, which as far as Japanese Atlantis offerings is the most infamous (you want *wild* fucking costuming, that's a great one. It's also gay as hell.) So I feel like Time Monster gets in on that because it was just a big thing in media at the time. It excuses *nothing* about this serial but it might explain a few things.
