I also think that the Third Doctor's era is one of the most consistently good; another would be the Thirteenth Doctor's. They certainly are my favourite eras.
The Mind of Evil was my first taste of Delgado as the Master. I don't think any of his stories had DVD releases at that point, and UK Gold put the whole serial on one day. Was still only available in black and white at the time. Loved it and still do. It's been a while since I watched it now, should probably rewatch it.
My list of essential Pertwee stories:

Pertwee's run was the most consistent in quality imo, particularly the first 12 stories.

10 Day Of The Daleks (updated)
9 The Time Warrior because Linx is the best Sontarans will ever be.
8 Frontier In Space Draconians, Ogrons and The Master are all on point.
7 Invasion Of The Dinosaurs (oh for some Walking With Dinosaurs technology) a great concept.
6 The Ambassadors Of Death, love this story UNIT heavy and although it’s yet another Brigadiers superior goes rogue story it’s early on in JP’s run even though we’ve just had General Scobie this is a different situation the Ambassadors are also mysterious in that we hardly see their faces
5 The Sea Devils a non UNIT UNIT story, I especially like the sea fort scenes it’s 3’s chance at redemption after the Eocene destruction and a rare Doctor fails story where his objective of peace is a failure and The Master escapes.
4 The Mind Of Evil for me this UNIT heavy action packed romp flys by, I love every minute
3 The Dæmons, you might tell that I really enjoy a UNIT story and the heat barrier gives good tension, “Chap with the wings there, five rounds rapid.” Love it
2 The Green Death, I think John Dearth had some fun voicing this one, it’s just superb and JP In disguise never gets old. Jo’s departure is a little daft, they don’t need to immediately decide to marry but it’s another story which flies by.
1 Inferno, could there really be anything else? If you can’t answer that then you need to watch it! If you think differently then re-watch it!😂
It gives our snug UNIT family the opportunity to play different roles and even though my top 2 have similar agendas they are both UNIT heavy and long but they don’t feel padded, there is a reason for each episode and the story is as long as it is because there is a lot happening.
I’ll also give a special mention to Mike Yates (Richard Franklin) who at various points is very much a supporting action hero and his action adventures help to rank the relevant stories highly.

Fantastic video. I pretty much agree with all your selections, which so rarely happens when I watch any ranking video! Colony in Space is very underrated. Never understood why people dislike it so much!
Seasons 7 and 8 were my gateway into classic Who.
I suppose, pre home video, having a story be a semi remake of a story from 10 years ago makes sense.

Thanks for doing these videos! Now, three random out-of-context points for the Pertwee years:
1) I grew up with the 4th doctor and thought Sarah Jane was hands-down the best companion ever, but she ended up being my least favorite with 3. It took a long time to settle on her character (feisty feminist at the beginning, then damsel in distress, and finally a competent platonic best bud for the 4th)
2) what puts Inferno into the ranks of the all-time greats is the atmosphere and it is almost entirely reliant on the soundtrack. A worst-to-best episode soundtrack list would be very interesting!
3) so many of my rankings are highly dependent on how long it took me to forgive the padding, which was prevalent in most of the stories. A "I've just finished watching it" ranking would be quite different from a "Time forgives the padding and dodgy special effects" ranking.
4) what makes Invasion of the Dinosaurs work for me is the plan to trick the "colonists" into thinking that they're going to another planet, and the fact that they've been chosen for their personal greatness makes it difficult for them to overcome their egos and realize they've been duped.
Great video. I would rank Inferno, The Daemons, both Auton stories, The Sea Devils, The Three Doctors, The Claws of Axos, The Green Death and Invasion of the Dinosaurs as "top tier" Pertwee. The only Pertwees I don't think are solidly good are Monster of Peladon, The Mutants, Colony In Space, Carnival of Monsters, the final 2 episodes of The Time Monster (the first four are really enjoyable) and I'd mark down Ambassadors of Death for not being a superb 4 part story instead of the 7 part padded exercise it became. But from that group, I would say only Monster of Peladon and The Mutants are actually disappointing stories overall. The Pertwee era, along with Tom Baker's first three seasons, really were the most consistently good in the show's history.
I maintain a similar list. So here it is, posted before I watched your video. Jon was my Doctor back in the day on original transmission and has always been my favourite.

Death to the Daleks was written by Terry Nation to challenge the ideas surrounding the e Daleks, to make them secondary characters, and making them physically and psychologically vulnerable. It's a novel concept that we don't really see again until Asylum of the Daleks, also the soundtrack is weird, which suits the weirdness of the story. It's honestly my favourite Pertwee Dalek story.
I started watching Doctor Who in the late Tom Baker era. This was a time before VHS, so you could only see an old story if the BBC showed a repeat. This was rare, and typically the repeats were recent 4th Doctor stories. So I never saw the 3rd Doctor. However, the novelizations were big and I read them all. The 3rd Doctor stories made for very good novels, notably Terror of the Autons, Day of the Daleks, The Daemons, Monster of Peladon, and Death to the Daleks. Funnily enough, Wheatabix cereal had Doctor Who cards to collect and many of those were from 3rd Doctor stories, like Ogrons, Exxilons, Aggedor, and (unless I am misremembering) even a Dalek with a machine gun from Death. Suffice to say, seeing all these stories when the BBC released them on VHS was actually something of a letdown. Novels don’t have production budgets and don’t have to follow the tv story exactly, so they were often much better.
I guess I just don't get the appeal of the Time Warrior; I went from wondering how Sarah Jane snuck onto the TARDIS without realizing it was odd she managed to hide from the Doctor to how she didn't figure out she was suddenly outside or in the past to how the Doctor couldn't figure out nothing the Sontaran did would have changed time because it happened nowhere in particular.
These were all conscious decisions made by Robert Holmes and it's just a poorly plotted mess. Fun? It's short, I'll give you that but it's just the Time Meddler without understanding what time meddling is. Rayguns with infinite ammo? That would work but any guns with manufactured ammunition that could not be made in the middle ages would soon become useless and it certainly would not lead to a 16th century atomic bomb.
I'm not supposed to focus on the plot, just the story? Clear as mud...
Having watched S8 recently for the first time in the Collection sets, weirdly Colony in Space was my favourite. However I think a rewatch might change that considering all the other stories I had such high expectations as it’s a season full of classics for this era
Inferno my fav episode.
I've been a Whovian since Pertwee's series premiered in the US, so he's 'my Doctor.' 'Carnival' and especially the 'Sea Devils' would be much lower, '3 Doctors' would be higher. To each their own. 'Inferno' and 'the Daemons' are my favorites.
Love this Doctor, been watching The Green Death. I read the Target novelisation quite a long time ago. It will be interesting to see your ranks.

@@_TJProductions Btw, in terms of the topic of the third doctor, I'd recomend giving the Annihilators a listen for BF, as I think that story is just wonderful in capturing the atmosphere of season 7.
Well done. the Monster of Peladon is the worst. my belief now is that the Silurians is the best of the third doctor's era. i don't agree with the beliefs of the writer, but Fred Hamilton does a stupendous job and the quintessential moral complexity adds a lot of drama to it. You must be joking, the Daemons is better? The Silurians is far more gritty than the Sea Devils.
I like the best to worst lists. Doing all of them is ambitious and will be a long video.

There a very few "bad" Pertwee stories. Personally I would put Carnival of Monsters in the top three but broadly concur with your ranking.

After Season Seven, most Pertwee stuff is formula-driven crap. I'm always weirded out by people who seem to think that his stuff is all that great.
Well, simply enough I love that formula, and I think the varied serial-to-serial framing of that formula keeps it wholly interesting.
