Just found this channel and I am so impressed with the quality of content from the creator. I could never camp long term in that small tear drop but with that sky calm shell, it opens up huge posibilities.
Thanks Kenneth. Clam makes a great line of products. The thing I enjoy most with the sky (the roof coming off) is also its weakness in high wind. If your are going into heavy wind consider an attached roof. Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos SUBSCRIBE ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweems
Lol I am watching from my clam escape on Asseateague island. We stake out every loop for this trip (2 weeks with family). We also have the venture which is 5 sided. It lives in the pass through in my little guy max teardrop. When it is just the hubby and I plus the dog it is perfect. We also have wind walls for both. At the beach I put the wind walls up half way with the loops tied up.The WeCAN just throw up when needed. I love clam shelters. I have even had the traveler. We decided we needed a tiny bit more space for the dog we got the venture. The venture is 9 feet and escape 12.
After watching your earlier videos with your Clam shelters I bought the Traveler. I use it with my little Runaway CoolCamp and it is great. It's just right for one person for cooking in and just relaxing. I have a battery operated fan I hang from the top and it keeps it cool. I got the 3 solid panels and like how easy everything sets up. I was going to get a 10 x 10 canopy but I don't think I could set one up by myself, so I thank you for recommending this. It's perfect for me.😊
We had the Clam Pavilion before the Sky was available-loved it except in hot sun the Pavilion was too hot to sit in.(We live in Texas) We love the Sky ventilation.
Ha ha ha! All my outdoor great provides a great return on the investment. The more I use it the less the cost per use is. Thanks for watching Patricia =Cosmo
Cosmo, Love your videos. I have a quickset sky and love it. Currently on a multi week vacation and use this every day under some heavy wind conditions and it has been a learning experience. First I have made new stakes from "spax" 8 inch lag screws available at Home depot and welded 1/2 inch nuts to top to use a 3/4 socket on a battery impact to put in and out-- end of story easy to use even in rocky areas Second all tie down strings have metal clips to attach to the center of walls ( connect direct to metal and not to straps. Third the roof panel needs to be tied with a tarp clip in the center edge straight down to the wall center. I use metal clips to attach to the clamps and adjustable string knot ( not sure what it is called) on bottom and loop over the wall center and tighten. Fourth-- you may have touched on it . the door cover needs a couple of tarp clamps on top so it doesn't sag. I had times in my dyi teardrop that I actually chained the camper back to my car for fear I would blow off the ledge on my boondock locations and the sky had no problem taking it. I use this method and would never think twice about the wind again. Might make a video about it someday.
Hy Bullseye Thanks for sharing this great info with the readers on the channel. Great Stuff! I agree I am in heaven with a Sky and the teardrop. Its an odd combo that just works really great. There is a lot more adventure in that type of camping. Someone else here noted they hook the bottom of the wall to the top for a half wall with privacy and ventilation which I also thought was a good idea. Again Thank You! =Cosmo
I bought the large Escape. 12X12 and 6 sides. It blew over once and just folded into itself. the only damage was my rear taillight in my van. Then I went camping out by the ocean. (in Florida) There was a windstorm came and NOAA said it was 20 plus mph winds. I used the side panel pull outs and tied ropes to 2 of them hoping it would give it extra holding power. Needless to say it survived. One mistake I made is I should have gotten the smaller one. I travel alone and it is hard to lug that 50 lbs up on the roof of my Astro Van plus I am 57 yrs 5'2" It gives me a work out on the ladder. I have put my bathroom in there and put a panel on the front. you just have to walk in from the side. I also have hooked the bottom of the panels to the top hooks for a changing room. All you see is legs that way plus you get air circulation. They are expensive but I have already blew thru 2 broken cheap models to me it is worth every penny. you did a great job reviewing them thank you.

Awesome review I like both products for what each one is made for but I think I would purchase the sky 1st. Also love Yurt's. The sky is just so diversified In its uses.
Those are definitely nice and bring more use to the yard and outdoors. You mentioned mosquitoes, I just bought the Thermo Cell MR300. It’s a game changer for dealing with the mosquitoes at night while sitting outdoors!!
Hi Mark. I have not embraced Thermocell yet. My concern or theory (right or wrong) is the slightest breeze will make it ineffective. How does it work in a gentile breeze? Thanks =Cosmo
Cosmo Weems I find it to be very effective even with a breeze. It has about a 15 foot radius and when you go out of that the mosquitoes attack! I think it was around $50 bucks for the Thermo Cell and extra butane and cartridges. Well worth the money!!
I love my 12 x 12 sky clam very well-built. One thing you didn’t mention which sometimes can be a pain if you forget is those reinforcement poles by the front door On the inside side if you forget to secure them you go crazy trying to figure Out how to refoldfold it until you remember you forgot to unfold the polls and put them back in their place One time I had it set up in my backyard forgot to put the steaks in we had 45 mile an hour winds for a while blew my tent across the yard pretty far I was sure when I got out there it was broken but clamp did such a good job and making it I just put it back together and it was ready to go I do have to strap it down on my roof racks as it won’t fit inside my car. Which doesn’t matter now because I had bought a vintage small 1981 trailer so now I have a inside space and a giant outside space with the sides up in the fly up can you take a shower in there or do your business Best investment. Great job on explaining and doing a review thank you
Thanks Frank. I have made a few mistakes with the door poles too. Funny, I had my clam blow away twice and it remained in perfect condition too! They do make a good product. Good advice I have had to pull it out of the weeds because I did not nail it down. Fully nailed down it holds up very well in winds. Cosmo, great video, just found you channel researching teardrop trailers and I have watched a couple of your videos. You are very informative and so well organized. Glad to have found you! I have subscribed. P.S. The knot part was excellent.
It seems like you could use the sky as an actual tent and then you'd have a nice big room with good ventilation after you get up. In fact why even have a camper when you have such a durable and flexible living space. Love your travel videos looking forward to more. I currently camp in an Aliner which I like but would love to have a teardrop.
Yes i have used the Traveler and Sky alone to camp in while car camping. They are really great shelters. I could live in a sky for the summer and enjoy it. =Cosmo
I would recommend the sheet bend here instead of a bowline. The bowline is still end of a loop to the end of a different loop. The sheet bend will distribute the friction over a much larger area. Thanks for the video.
Hey there. Thanks In my case I want the cord to float in the nylon loop. While I dont have data I believe it will reduce wear. I will experiment with the sheet bend. Knots can keep me busy the rest of my life! Thanks for dropping in =Cosmo
@@CosmoWeems When tied tight, neither knot will "float" in the hand loop that you are using as a tie down point. That said, I can't see it clearly, but if you could run your tie down line from the same point the manufacturer ties their hand loops, that would probably be best. Then use any knot out there.
Thanks for your excellent reviews. I'd like to see you do a review of the new Clam Cabin. I like my Traveler a lot, but am intrigued by the double 6x6 size of the Cabin.
Thanks Lisa. It looks to me like the Cabin does not appear to have window coverings (other than screens) on the attached walls. The removable walls have a drop down flap over the screens for privacy and air flow reduction. At least they are not showing any covering. I love mt Clam shelters. I am having friends over for take out food during the pandemic because the SKY has so much air flow and is so large. I plan on heating it so I can continue safe small gatherings into the winter. Hey Cosmo, awesome review! Thank you so much for all the helpful information; can you tell me please how is the condensation factor if using as a tent, will I wake to a wet sleeping bag?
I need a roof over me to keep condensation off my sleeping bag. I also started using a cot for comfort amzn.to/3f53gKQ You will need to seal the roof seams. Thank you for the great review! I am now a subscriber. I want something smaller that can be used as a "tent" with a couple cots and then function as a shelter instead of just getting a tent that I won't use much. These clams seem to be great.
Hello Robert. I cant say for sure. I wont be setting mine up for a while (snow here). Hey Cosmo, thanks for the review on these two shelters. I did some looking on the Clam website but couldn't find any information on the size of the opening that would go around the back of a teardrop. I was wondering if you know, or could measure the size of that opening? The reason I ask is because my wife and I are in the market for a teardrop and we are looking at a 6 foot wide model. Thanks Cosmo.

Great review! I have been thinking of getting one for my wife and I (mid 70's) to use with out Winnebago Travato. The Traveler I. could store inside where as the Sky may need to be tied to the ladder, which then I would be concerned about theft. Any ideas for safe outside storage? Love your videos. Thank you.
I love both clams. Once its up I don't worry about it vanishing. In my case there seems to be little theft in the places I camp. I am sure in some places its a problem. I always make point of chatting with neighbors in hopes they will keep an eye on things and I keep an eye on there sites. Boondocking has never been a problem. But I do lock the trailer when I go to buy supplies. Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos SUBSCRIBE ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweems
Thinking either would do well in my western climate, but leaning towards the Traveler as it would be easier to pack in my Ram PMCity (smaller van). Sounds like the traveler doesn’t have a floor. Do you think a small tarp on the ground with one of those camping rugs would work?
I agree travelere is very portable and light in comparison to the Sky. Yes I use the carpets on the floor. For me they work better than a tarp. The rugs do not damage the plants below them. =Cosmo
I was under the impression that the tie out cables should be attached to the rings rather than the pull straps. 🤔 I want to set up my new Venture Clam but there's no good place in my yard to do so. It will have to wait until I have a bigger area, I guess.
Its a good point FD I had not looked at it that way. I suppose the rings would be a good way to set it up too! =I will experiment. I can fit the both of them in tight places. move the gas grill and get it up! =Cosmo
I wish the grill was the only thing in the way. Lol. I have wooden garden beds and containers and a chain-link fence that would snag the mesh. I had that happen on my last screen shelter. There's just so much pokey wood in the way... 😉 My brother in law has a big backyard. I may have to take it over there. The yard slopes, but at least I can see if I can set the thing up myself.
Hi D. I agree, they use no-seeum fine mesh screen. That will cut down on air flow and no-seeum bugs which can be a big problem. Life is a compromise! Some models have multiple huge zip open windows and that provides plenty of air flow but not much bug protection! My channel shows these shelters in use under lots of conditions. Any chance you have an exact measurement for the overall length of the traveler when stored in the bag? I hear you say "about" 52 inches, and I've also seen somewhere it shown at 53 inches. I need to pack it on the rear floor of my Subaru Forester. My max space between the door panels is 52 and 1/2 inches so I'm looking to be sure it fits before ordering. thanks
I measured it. The Traveler is 52 inches long. It fits in a 2014 Forester with the back seat down. Front passenger seat is about 1/2 way on forward to backward. There is a few inches to spare. @@CosmoWeems THANKS! With my current packing setup, putting it in the back with the seat down is not an option. I need to pack it width ways on the floor between the back doors behind the front seats. Sounds like it will just fit. I'll be sure to use your link.
Yes its 13 feet wide. Not sure if all tables are the same size but it would fit over the places I camp. You might want to check and make sure you can get around the table to get in and out. Based on nothing - I think it would work =Cosmo
Have the Traveler..using it as a screened area on my porch until I get my rig and do some serious travel. I do have major trouble putting it up alone. 5 ft 2 female ...use a baseball bat to push up the center. That's after I beat the shit out of the clam in frustration!!!😏 Has really been good though..as I react badly to bug bites.
Ha ha ha. Be kind to your gear, show it love and tenderness and it should respond favorably. It does have a high roof Others have had to use a prop to raise it. You are not alone. I have been chewed down to the bone by bugs and the Clam has helped me keep my blood. A carpet will help with the rascals in the grass. Hang in there slugger! Regards =Cosmo
Great review! I'm loving the Traveler and I think it would be perfect for me and my wife to use outside our small TT. Can I ask where you got those folding tables? I've been looking for something like those.

Hi Tina! No the Traveler (which I like) does not come with a door. An easy work around is to buy one panel and have a zipper installed. I move my Clam Sky door panel to the traveler and it works very well. To make it a better install add a button - snap or velcro near the middle of the door to hold it up perfectly - but it will work with no modifications too. If you need more info let me know.
Thank You for sharing your comment! Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

Great product but be sure to always secure it. Unexpected storm during the night made mine airborne and gone forever.
Good advice I have had to pull it out of the weeds because I did not nail it down. Fully nailed down it holds up very well in winds. But when winds get over 40MPH I am exceeding the design limitations and may get unexpected results! Still these are my favorite shelters.
@@thewhiskeycowboy-official Thank You!

I have video if these in use in foul weather. ua-cam.com/video/6YPF5xJC0mU/v-deo.html

Thank you for the great review! I am now a subscriber. I want something smaller that can be used as a "tent" with a couple cots and then function as a shelter instead of just getting a tent that I won't use much. These clams seem to be great.
I have been using them both for 2 seasons and I love'em. Really great shelters. Thanks for watching =Cosmo
Great video. Would a 70.5 inch camp kitchen fit along a wall in the Traveler?
Hello Robert. I cant say for sure. I wont be setting mine up for a while (snow here). Hey Cosmo, thanks for the review on these two shelters. I did some looking on the Clam website but couldn't find any information on the size of the opening that would go around the back of a teardrop. I was wondering if you know, or could measure the size of that opening? The reason I ask is because my wife and I are in the market for a teardrop and we are looking at a 6 foot wide model. Thanks Cosmo.

Rock 'n Roll Cosmo. Thanks so much for the fast response and the great info.
Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

=Cosmo
I use a 6x9 ft plastic carpet under my traveler. Covers the floor inside and gives you a 3ft porch rug out front.
I heard they get hot because the screen is so tight can you deliberate on that great job on the video

Do you think the SKY would work well over a standard campground table?
Your story makes me great full that I’m 5’9”.
Great review! I'm loving the Traveler and I think it would be perfect for me and my wife to use outside our small TT. Can I ask where you got those folding tables? I've been looking for something like those.

Cosmos I’m thinking of buying. a Traveler but they only give you three weather panels. Is there a door weather panel?
Regards =Cosmo If you use this link to buy I profit at no cost to you. amzn.to/3nnW9w7
Have you tried setting up the smaller clam to your door so you can enter as you exit the camper?would it work over the kitchen area as well?
Some people in the Vistabule Teardrop Enthusiast group have done that. They add a side door and put the Clam door over the galley. =Cosmo
