Thank you for sharing camping in the winter months. I have always enjoyed camping year round. A tip for summer camping with a canopy over the galley...we use a regular cheapo box fan, tie paracord through each corner of the fan, then tie the fan up into the top of the canopy. Circulates an amazing amount of air. We used to use two canopies, one over the galley, with the screen walls, and one set up on the side of the teardrop with the walls. The boys would sleep on air mattresses in the walled canopy. We would use a portable room a/c and coupled with the fan in the roof of the canopy, nights would be chilly, even on the Gulf Coast in late June.
Thank You, I dont need A/C I acclimatize to the heat, I do use a 12V fan which works great! ua-cam.com/video/u8yDCEr3ZvA/v-deo.html Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos SUBSCRIBE ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweems
There's a great company in Salem, OR called Salem Tent and Awning ... totally locally owned ... and they are wonderful ... we had them make new canvas for our CombiCamper and I'm sure they could do this sort of modification if there were some "guidelines!" Thanks!
This company has done about a dozen mod jobs for the Vistabule owners. There is virtually nor difference between these different brand shelters so should work out just fine. Once they remove the front door its not as good as a freestanding shelter unless you hook up a front screen and door. My setup came with an extra attachable panel which I may use for the front door at those time (if needed). Thank You for watching. This has come the closest to an idea I had & used with my ABC canopy with side walls over the back end of my SUV or minivan. I split one wall in two (3/4-1/4 split is best) & used a piece of tarp for a valance over top of vehicle.
The triangle of fabric covering the zipper ends would do more than just improve aesthetics. Ends of zippers often have a slight gap through which pesky and determined bugs can get through. The triangle of fabric will make it harder for flying bugs to get through any gap at that end of the zipper. I know bugs might get through the opening around the teardrop, but there are ways to address that. I'd rather have the few ounces of fabric weight and have the triangles at the zippers.
Thanks Marcia! I love going into nature and enjoying the quiet solitude of winter. Which totally recharges my appreciation of home too. Its a win win situation.. Regards =Cosmo

In case you’re looking for alternative ways to close the seal around the trailer, the Scotch Extreme outdoor fasteners have almost a VHB type adhesive on them and will stick to vinyl well. And of course they would stick to the wall of the trailer. It’s more of a permanent item stuck on the trailer but they come in a clear color. Also good on vinyl might be one of the newer nano tapes they use of dashcam mounts. They’re removable. Not sure if you’d need to get some marine vinyl sewn around the tent opening for both of these ideas. Or maybe you could VHB tape some snaps on the trailer? Just brainstorming.
Thanks for the idea Alice. I love that 3M VHB tape. I use it on lots of stuff. This was the first time out with this shelter and the conditions were not ideal to say the least. In warmer weather this year I will have more time to enjoy it. Regards =Cosmo

That is a beautiful setup. Only thing missing is a wood stove. Lol how is the teardrop doing with condensation I’ve heard different things. But I really like the tent setup
Condensation control is excellent on this trailer. 8 days i very cold weather. The front window iced up but that is to be expected. Wood walls remained dry. Cold bridges like bolts tat connect to outside had some ice. Dry walls is much better than most trailers. Thank You for watching. Such a slick mod for the clamshell! The fact that the Amish did it for you is even cooler. What kind of temps were you getting inside the tent (compared to outdoors) with your propane heater on?
Hi Even. When it was +10 outside I was +32 in the Clam with the heat running. In the trailer it was as warm as I wanted it to be! The Clam has no insulation so it does not hold any heat once you turn off the heater. But it kept the wind out of the shelter. It was very windy and would have been less fun cooking and eating without wind protection in the shelter! Thanks for watching =Cosmo

I use the Dokio 300 to charge the trailer or the Jack. Same for the Jack solar panels. You need the type of tint that you can put your trailer thing in it's called a carport it's up under carport I mean it's a tent that's big enough to fit that whole trailer up under there plus you could be inside the trailer thing with the car tint you know what I'm saying
Is it just open under the camper into the tent? I would think a lot of cold air (and insects)could enter the tent up from the underside of the trailer?
Hi SJ This is the first time I out it up and I did not spend much time putting it up. Conditions were not good for crawling around under the trailer. Vinyl covered canvas was not warm weather pliable. There is a draw string that tightens the pucker to the trailer and there is some sort of fabric closure under the trailer part of the tent. When the weather is better I try a closer fitting. The clam affords some protection from the wind but its still a cold tent that does not hold heat. Thank you for sharing camping in the winter months.
I have always enjoyed camping year round. You definitely learn quick what works with a couple of miserable nights. :-)
Just a FYI from "some guy" :
If you have a way to bake a couple of potatoes in foil and put them in a couple of sweatsocks it keep you very warm for hours. You also have breakfast in the morning.
People know the rock trick. This is just a spin off.. 👋

Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

I think you've been reading my mind Cosmo. I want Gazelle tents to make a "SUV tent" that can attach the back of a wrangler or 4runer or even a Tesla.

Cosmo, thanks for all your videos. Have you been able to test the Dokio 300w panels with the Jackery 1000? Do the panels work with the 1000?
Yes Dokio at 300 watts is superior to two Jack 100 panels and costs half the price of 2 Jacks. Yes the Dokio works GREAT with the 1000.
Is velcro tape a good idea for your gap between your trailer and clam tent?

That is a beautiful setup. Only thing missing is a wood stove. Lol how is the teardrop doing with condensation I’ve heard different things.
But I really like the tent setup
Condensation control is excellent on this trailer. 8 days i very cold weather. The front window iced up but that is to be expected. Wood walls remained dry. Cold bridges like bolts tat connect to outside had some ice. Dry walls is much better than most trailers. Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

Yes a wood burner would be a great idea for the set up. It would make it more of a livable space rather than a covered entrance and storage type area.
Wonder if some kind of magnets would help seal the tent to the trailer?

So l thought if we got your type of solar panels we would be able to follow the sun so to speak to get the most out of the sun we do have.

Great Video! Question... looks like you are using both the Dokio & Jackery Solar Panels? Is there a benefit to using both types? You can charge your Jackery power station with either panel, ... so just curious as to your reasoning. Thank you!
I use the Dokio 300 to charge the trailer or the Jack. Same for the Jack solar panels. Sometimes I use them the same way sometimes different ways. 100 watt solar panel under clouds and forest may only put on 5 or 10 watts and hour so I can combine them for more wattage when I need it. The heater keeping up outside temperatures?
Propex trailer heater kept me warm as home in 7F in the trailer. I had several days of temps on the low 20s in the day and single digits at night. Space heater would raise the temp in the clam shelter to about 34 in the very cold temps with not too much wind and single digit temps. Even that improvement is greatly appreciated at those temps.
I was very glad to have extra living space along for 8 days. =Cosmo Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ua-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos
