Versatile camping shelter worth the price tag
This is one of those "buy once cry once" investments. I've done tons of research on camping shelters/screenhouses/gazebos/bughouses, you name it. So I'll explain below why this is truly the one to buy.
Now, if you are even considering one of these, it's a nice to have piece of gear, not a must have. It does drastically improve your outdoor activities and quality of the experience, namely camping.
The competition: Aside from the Amazon chinese knockoffs you have Gazelle. Gazelle is an outstanding brand and relatively cheaper alternative to Clam. With that said, the G6 by Gazelle in great weather is the buy. But you aren't buying these for great weather - you want versatility, the ability to shelter from sun, rain, bugs, wind, cold and that's where Clam justifies the higher price tag over Gazelle.
Wind Panel: Clam are superior to Gazelle given the windows and double rain flap.
Floor: Clam is the only company that makes a floor for these, that is 100% sealed from the outside.
Gazelle sells a footprint and is not sealed, water and bugs can get through.
Roof: This mesh roof allows these tents to breathe better, but you will still need a portable fan to circulate air. Being able to look up at the sky at night and have the wind panels on for privacy allows you to double this as a Yurt or tent.
Poles for door are attached and not loose like Gazelle. If you lose those poles you cannot use the tent as the front door will collapse. It's the biggest drawback no one talks about.
The package with the rainfly, wind panels and floor make this the most versatile camping shelter tent out there for car camping
nice film Troy!always enjoy your content!
Thank you!
Nice job,and looks good, happy campers are the best.😊
Thank you!
Used extensively for the last two years. Advantages: By far cooler with rain fly off than screen tents with solidroof, so many options for sides up down top and floor on or off.
Disadvantages: time consuming to set up with top and sides, rainfly blows up like a balloon in the wind. Use tarp clamps and secure to wall center hubs will solve but add time to your setup.
All said and done Advantages make this my choice for tents. Use it for all camp activities except sleeping that we do in a micro squaredrop camper.
Thank you for sharing your experience with it.
Have this one. Highly endorse. Open top is great for keeping mosquitoes at bay while star gazing or watching fireworks.
That's great to hear! I'll have out camping for real use soon.
Good video and set up, just purchased a clam, and they are a very well built unique shelter.
Nice! Which one did you get?
Very beautiful. You are very creative
Thank you
Can hardly wait to see the film of the first camping expedition
Thanks for watching Doug! Not sure where the first trip will be yet.
Nice video set up. I own 2 of the Quick set Escape, 6 sided in brown too, but have the roof top. Purchased the side panels separately (great deal on 6 pk sets). I use on solid ground & use indoor/outdoor area rugs for the flooring. May look into getting the floor. I use canopy weight bags to secure in place & basically for an event-would leave up if weather good for the night. Got mine at a Bed Bath & Beyond store-paid @ $49 each-a steal & didn't even know of Clam company. Enjoy it.
Very nice! Great idea to use area rugs for flooring!
I had one of the 12 x 12. Loved it! I was able to set it up solo in under 5 minutes. It got destroyed in a thunderstorm with high wind this summer. I will buy another one!
Sorry to hear that. Did you get a replacement?
@@troylindner Not yet I'm looking at them though.
I’ve been researching alternatives for a screen room for a while and finally settled on this model. Your video validated my purchase. My wife and I are retired and camp with a 22 foot trailer (no sense being uncomfortable at this stage) but we do host our children and, grandchildren. This product gives us bug free space, shelter from the rain, overflow sleeping space, and privacy. I’ll put a cot in there for the unscheduled sleep time.
The rain fly approach was the deciding factor in the end. Easy to waterproof and to set aside if the weather is dry. Also the screened roof should disparate heat which many complain about. Too cold? I’ve got a buddy heater for that (Canadian).
Subscribed….
Thanks Harold! How do you like that buddy heater? I've been considering getting one for cold camping.
@@troylindner Hey Troy. I’ve only used it once and it was outside with a wind and not effective. So it needs to be in an enclosed shelter. I received my clam sky shelter two days ago. I would have set it up but 2 feet of snow in the backyard gets in the way. I’m gearing up for camping season so I bought two 20 lb. Propane tanks which will replace those one pounders. Next, a hose and regulator to power the buddy.
It’s going to be fun…….
Just bought a Gazelle 6 sided deluxe with the floor. Wish I had known about this before. The Gazelle is well made and has a back door, but here in the southeast, if you are over 5 ft tall, you will be breathing fire, because there is no way to ventilate. The optional floor leaves a gap and water comes in with a heavy rain, not to mention critters. Gazelle probably goes up faster and the panels are permanently attached, but I think this would have met my needs better.
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with the Gazelle! The Escape Sky has a lot of options for ventilation. I put it through the test last week and will post a video soon.
You didn’t fumble. Thanks!
🤝
Cool !
I think the pavilion version is the best.
Hey troy now you need to take Al camping thanks for sharing good video Trot. God Bless you my Brother Robert Guzman
He hasn't been camping in loooooong time! Time to break that streak.
Awesome video. does it come with the front door cover also or do you have to buy it separate God bless brother
Thanks! You can order it with everything together. Their site is being updated right now or I would get you the link.
Any camping videos coming up in the future??
Yes, that's the plan with this se tup. Carp fishing, rock bass and camping!
Troy - that tent looks pretty dang cool. For us down south - is floor totally sealed when setup so no (slithering critters could get in)? Be safe out there!!
Thanks Rob! It's a pretty good seal. I'll be putting the tent to real use soon to see how it holds up and holds things out.
There's no floor.
I "Clicked" on the link for the quick set shelter... and there wasn't a web page to be found?? So... how can you buy one of these?
You can get them on Clam's website: quicksetshelters.com/
I like video
Thank you Sam!
Bought this unit. Followed all instructions and confirmed by watching your video. One problem the poles in each side of door are supposed to fold down and snug into a pocket at bottom. Mine appear too long snd you did not show that aspect of your installation. Are my poles too long?
I forgot to include that part in the video. The poles should be fine, they are suppose fit snug for support.
Hi.. the wind panel on the entrance looks different. Did you purchase it separately?
It is comes with panel package. Yes, the front panel is different.
Hi what is your exact model called since there are various versions? What do you think of other versions since you have this one? Thanks
This is the "Escape Sky Camper". This one: shop.quicksetshelters.com/escape-sky-camper-screen-tent.html

Not a fan that the floor and panels aren't preinstalled. If you have to do that each time I think it be faster just to get a basic pole tent.
portable yurt
It seems to be a nice design but the Velcro attaching idea is a big no for me. They need to ditch that Velcro idea and go with good thick zippers. A good gust will just disconnect the Velcro points.
Great idea! Zipper could work very well.
Please excuse my skepticism but how will that hold up in a northern Ontario thunder storm? I guess I should read up on it more but is it designed for that purpose?
Hey! Northern Ontario is great! I have had the tent in heavy winds and will post a video of that soon. Setting it up in 25-30mph. But have not camped with it in a heavy downpour.
@@troylindner looking forward to your camping video. My Yanes tent holds up well when we camp on crown land up near Gogama, Ontario but it’s beginning to show its age. Believe me there are some very scary lightning storms with heavy downpours that we have been in up there
Have had one for two years. Well built but is a challenge to keep rainfly on in heavy winds. Wants to balloon up as air gets under it. Ended up using tarp clamps and tied to sidewall hubs. Willing to put up with that for mesh roof. Not sure everyone would. Quickset has models with roof and sides attached but you give up cooler tent.
does the window screen zip or only Velcro on ?
The window screen has a zipper and the rain fly covers are velcro.
how many panels do you get?
5 side panels included plus another for front door.
I like the clam shelter. I prefer the olive green one to blend in with the landscape a little more. However, manufacturer does not make it clear on their website or on Amazon that the green version does not come with the rain flaps to overlap the tops of the wind panels, so rain flows right in at this point. I called them to ask why and they wanted a version available under $400, so they omitted these necessary flaps. I told him there were numerous posts on Amazon about this, and that we’d prefer to pay the extra $30 for these rain flaps, but they’re unwilling to budge. This foolish decision makes no sense to me whatsoever. They're unwilling to listen to customer feedback.
Sorry to hear all that. I'll share this concern with them.
So this spring we bought one of these bad boys for camping. This week in a storm every anchor point ripped out. Every one. I called customer service and they said it’s not a manufacturer issue. They don’t warrant for weather events. I asked what is it supposed to shelter us from if not weather. No reply. They said these are not to be left unattended or up in inclement weather. I asked if I am in it and it starts raining I have to take it down in the bad weather? They said yes. I said both your product and your customer service are shit. Do not buy one.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.
Good video, annoying music, had to mute it, so I could not hear what he was saying. Why do UA-camrs have to make a production of it? Ambient sound is better.
I hear ya, this was a while ago when that was a trendy thing for videos. Music plays a much smaller part nowadays when there's talking, in any of my social accounts.
It’s a glorified hunting blind
Dude. Learn how to set up the tent before u start filming. Set it up once off camera. Then when u know how to set it up, hit record.
This video was meant to show to first REAL impression from box opening to set up. No warm ups.
