I viewed this video and other video's people had made. I have a small trailer, GEO PRO GSRK12 and was looking of a way to expand my space. This was the ticket for me. I bought the green Traveller and have used it several times. I does what he states and I had it setup in 30 mile winds and it stood it with no issues. Thanks for the info Cosmo.

THanks for a great review. I bought one of these for shade and to get away from the bugs. Maybe even to sleep in instead of my Honda Fit or Coleman popup. I like simple but functional. I had been considering returning it thinking Id gone overkill on the structures but after watching, Im sure I made the right choice!

Great ideas! We have the largest Clam with the zippered sides. Excellent purchase. We stake down all the loops and never have a problem. Was $400.00 + but worth every cent. We can seat 10! Can use as a “guest” room even. Kept us from buying a 5th wheel😉
You certainly "get it" I agree and my thinking is the same. I paid more for the Clam Quickset Sky 13 feet across and I am happy to have all that living space. I could rent a spot and put these two shelters there and be quite happy. I met a guy on Assategue Island who was living in a larger model for the summer. He had regular furniture in it. Yeah. Nice solutions that work for you. EZ-UP is 80 lbs, so I get it. I'd want to rig something up to make loading and unloading easy. But they're pretty easy to set up and sturdy.
Just saw your video on the 12-foot clam shelter. That was ridiculously easy to put up. The extra bits at the bottom are sod cloth Throw dirt or snow on them to seal the tent all the way around. Those ice-fishing huts are amazing. This is the first such that I saw with a screened-enclosure application. Very nice. That's what you want if you're doing office work outdoors.

I have one and love it. The only problem is if you are a short person, it can be hard to set up by your self. I bought a small step stool that gives me a few extra inches, and helps with setting up.

This Clam seems to be the right size- I just ordered one!
Ya its a compact shelter. I have the larger model but its bulky in the car. You can purchase optional walls for this which will cover 3 sides which can provide some privacy and additional shelter. ENJOY! =Cosmo
Excellent! A recommendation by an opinionated guy -- a believable recommendation.
I think the purpose of the big loops on the sides and top are pull-points to deploy, expand, the frame -- not tie-down anchors. There are small loops at the corners of the roof that are likely tie-down anchors.

@@CosmoWeems I believe you, man, and it was this review video that convinced me to buy this shelter. I saw an official Clam video where they use the side loops for tie-downs anchor points. But the same Clam video shows that the side loops are at least ALSO (perhaps primarily) intended as pull-out handles for setup.

We have the Venture...haven't used it in cooler weather, but have easily put it over a toddler's climbing dome and separately, a kiddy pool to shade our grandsons.. The only down side is that we got very hot inside (we're in SoCAL) and bc the bug-mesh screens can't be unzipped we couldn't stay inside long. Hubby even put a small floor fan at its door to blow out some accumulated heat!! I'm looking at the Sky (Tractor Supply sells those) but now the screen roof is an issue. Rainfly is fiddly (guess the $750 price tag is too). I would love to have the Venture or Escape with windows that open. Speaking of openings...I miss being able to unzip the top of the door so there's a fully open door frame. Imagine how you could back up a trailer, lift the hatch to the galley kitchen inside the Clam, and make yourself a decent living space. I seem to recall that you actually DID that, didn't you? (video) I think, before we sell this Venture, we'll have to take it into cooler weather and kick its tires...
I agree the no-seeum netting reduces air flow quite a bit Some models come with huge windows you can unzip. My setup is good under most conditions and yes I did modify one clam to have side doors and several windows. Good information. I have been thinking about buying either the clam or the gazelle, I have the coleman that you showed and have never taken it out of it's case. Going to sell it on Market place along with other camping stuff I have never used. Selling that stuff will leason the pain of a gazelle. Thanks for your input

I laughed out loud on this one! 😂 Cosmo, I started watching your videos almost an hour ago (yes, I subscribed so please make some more!) and this was the grand finale. You’ve nailed the angles 👍🏼 You’ve helped me lean towards the Traveler. BUT there’s a brand new 5 sided model called the Venture- a little bigger but same price as the Traveler. Thanks for the wonderfully detailed reviews AND the laughs. I hope to be on the road with my new-to-me (25 year old) Chinook within the next month. Woot!

Thx for review & showing this thing in the wind. Other videos only had it in calm conditions. Like you, I don’t like the pyramiding walls of those others. Do you think the 8’ one is still car camp-able? 12’ is way too big for us, but 6’ not quite big enough.
Hard to say Karin. Check the length when packed. Make an 8 foot square with water or chalk on a parking lot and try fitting you stuff in it!
I understand twisting a tie-down strap on your car will prevent the strap from vibrating in the wind. I wonder if you can apply this strategy to the hold-down straps of your tent. Just a thought.

Just re-watching again. I would love if you did another video showing yourself setting up the Traveler like you did with the Sky model. That would be especially helpful. The Sky looks a little awkward to set up for someone my size but the extra space would be appreciated so that I have lots of room to dance. I would be able to get away with a 6x6 area for dancing but it would be tight when subtracting space for a table and my porti-potty. Not a lot of room for a camera setup. I dance in that square footage (4 x 6') right now but it's hard and sometimes I leave those boundaries or bump into them (my bed being a wall of sorts). I wouldn't be able to do that in the Traveler. I can see myself hitting the walls often and that would piss me off. Lol. I just don't know if I'm big/strong enough to set up the Sky by myself. I'm also not sure I'll always have such a large footprint where I'm camping. It might be that the area I have for a screen room is more conducive to the Traveler's size.
Oy, so many things to consider. Ideally, I would have both sizes, as you do. I just don't know if I'd have room to tote both of them around. Space will be very limited on my full-time rig...
Start with the traveler. Its very good. AOnly issue is you can get walls for all sides except the front door. Huge Sky you can get a door wall for but I agree its huge. You can always order a s sky later.

@@CosmoWeems I ordered the Clam Traveler (6 x 6)...question, the side panels are not available until the end of November...I believe both types available work - the ones w/ no window and w/ window. I read that the plain (no window) the velcro doesn’t match the ones on the tent, and people are sawing small strips to make it fit. I believe you mentioned that the ones you got (w/ windows) will fit on both the Traveler and larger (five sides) tent you have. Did you have a Velcro issue putting them on the smaller traveler? There is a double price difference between both types - not concern on the price but the fit! Cheers and thank you.
@@CosmoWeems Update and info...talked to Clamoutdoors this afternoon. They are expecting a large shipment of everything Clam the first week of November to cover their store stock and Amazon for year end...read Christmas! They are stocking only the side panels with windows that “are used” on three Clam models...from the smaller Traveller and up the line. All three Clams use the same 6’x6’ side panels. Their top Clam (largest) come with the side panels, door panel and rain top included! My Clam is coming Thursday...I’ll get fresh 🍋 to start seasoning for better taste...😂Cheers !
My panels cams with the Sky which includes the zipped front door and the panels have windows. I am using them on the traveler and the velcro lines up fine. The Sky has a piece of velcro on the tent body that the traveler does not. It is in the center of the door where the zipper is. I had planned to add that velcro to the traveler but never did it. It all works fine. I have no way of knowing if Clam changed something since I got mine. Its a great shelter. I used the traveler for 11 days on my last trip. Good Luck! =Cosmo

My wife, bless her, came home with that Coleman "monstrosity" for us as well. I was not amused, and had to gently and graciously show her why (as always, her intentions and cost frugality where very admirable). Way too big to lug around in our Jeep SUV. Way too long of a footprint, plus it tilted inward making it difficult to utilize when standing, etc. Returned it, and we bought the Clam Traveler which at 20 lbs. is only about 4 feet long by 7 inches high in its bag. And you can stand in it comfortably. A much better solution for a couple hundred dollars.

You really seem to have it together with your teardrop and your Subaru. Wondering if your Subaru shows in signs of loss in performance after having towed the teardrop trailer? I also have a Subaru and have considered a trailer of some sort but have concerns it might compromise my Forester with just the 4 cylinder boxer engine. Thank you for your reviews.

I cover a lot of that in other videos but I dont know which ones. Most gear goes in plastic waterproof tubs in the car. then I can take them out or leave them out in the rain. So Cosmo: do you think a cot would fit inside the 6 foot dimension of the Traveler? Maybe there's enough wiggle room to fit in a 78" cot if you wanted to use this for sleeping? Inquiring minds want your opinion. :) Thanks !

@@michael7482 : EZ-Up. Buy utility walls separately. You can put doors with windows on all 4 sides, and have the wall facing the trailer enclosing the sides. For total coverage you'd have a gap above the trailer and underneath the trailer to fill. Fill above with a half sidewall. You'd need some kind of skirting under your trailer to finish the job. But you could seal it up pretty good, otherwise, with doors on any or all of the 3 remaining walls.
