Quick question for ya Blaine. If i use weber ocr as my base scratch coat will a four to one plus half bag of lime be ok for a top coat with pebble dash or would i be risking cracking afterwards.. I'm concidering using the webbing that you've used to help strengthen exterior render. Maybe this over kill but any advice from you would be greatly appreciated.. Cheers buddy..
Love the videos. Learnt a lot :) I'm looking to fill a 1m2 hole in an exterior wall left from an old fireplace that has been removed (18mm OSB installed with membrane on outside face). The house is old timber frame with existing render in the Scottish highlands and there are a couple of areas where there are minor cracks so I was looking to use a more modern polymer based render to prevent cracking between the old and new. Problem is the existing render is around 30mm thick so I was looking to screw cement board through the OSB into the timber frame then build up with OCR but I don't seem to be able to find if OCR is polymer based or not. Do you know if it is and does this sound like a good way to tackle this project?
I’m sorry to say you doing it wrong. You need to be using PRB classic tal it’s a one coat render so no need for scratch coat and waiting for it to dry. I could of done that wall start to finish in 6 hours.
Hi bud. I’m using this OCR for the first time. I scratch coated all my extension a couple of weeks ago and put a second coat on 1 wall last weekend (neighbours side) and i had problems with air bubbles trapping behind the second coat. Any idea why this was? I’m a joiner by trade. I’ve done a few sand ,cement and lime jobs in the past with no bubble issues!?????
I'm about give it a go. Can you plaster over it? I've chimney breast with log burner and i was going to use it there, also one of the walls in same room looks a bit week and i was going to do exactly the same. Weber OCR with mesh. Or would you recommend just to use hardwall with mesh ?? Thanks for any advice
I've got some patching to do that's only 5-6mm on the side of my house can I use ocr and mesh as just a one coat system. I am then going to tyrolena it.
Great video as always! Can you use OCR for internal works in place of sand and cement and add waterproofer with OCR for solid 9 inch external wall for example?
I've bought SBR Bond for my scratch coat. What waterproof agent should I add with it plz..Never plastered before so I'm learning. I'm doing a scratch coat and then the top coat will be pebble dashed..
@@PlasteringForBeginners First off thank you for your reply and secondly. .... I'm tackling the replastering of my house ie.. chipping of the render then scratch coating and finally re-pebble dashing it and the confidence I have gained is from watching your uploads over the past few years. Thank you for taking the time to make/edit the videos, upload and share your trade skills/talent.. Best wishes to you buddy and thank you..
Hi Blaine, I love this channel it is superb. I do have a quick question matey. Is it possible to do a full gable end of the house in two stages or would that produce a noticeable line? Not as young as I used to be and it is a big wall to cover :). I know it will be fine for the base coat but was just wondering if by doing it in two stages for the top coat over a couple days will give me visible break point lines in my top coat. Last thing you want really is a visible line where the two have been joined together.
@@BlueVelvetBearHas to be done in one go mate really. I managed to rope in some help and had 2 of us on it. I did test out the '2 stage process' on a small wall and I could get it very close to be honest doing it in 2 stages a few days apart but I could still see a join so all in one is the way to go if you want it looking perfect.
I have a question. I'm about to render a housefront. Re scratch coat. I prime and do a scratch coat. Next day do I re prime? Or go onto the dry scratch coat with second hit? My concern is it drying on me too fast but being too green /bad practice to prime both coats? Is it too soon to prime again after only 1 day? Is it necessary ?
It's faster to pull the mesh up and cut the bottom. We mesh different to the vid, we don't cut mesh 1st, we apply 3-5mm 1st coat Eco rend in a mesh section, pull mesh up, serrate in with edge bar, cut mesh and comb if needed.
As a right handed plasterer, I've always found it easier to start from the left side and work my way to the right.
Rendering perfectly good brickwork 🙈
Correct 😊
Why would they want this?? It looks like a downgrade.
Great video. Not sure why they would like to render over such nice brick work though?
My thoughts as well.
Have you applied 2 coats same day? The scratch and top coat?great work as always

I was led here after watching dustless blasting of rendering on brick the homeowner wanted removed 😅

Get the makita 18v LXT 5L sprayer Blaine, a game changer.😉
I’ll look into that. Cheers pal!
I've just rendered my gable end with OCR following your previous videos. Absolutely brilliant gear!
It’s good stuff isn’t it mate! Glad you liked it
Great video Blaine … what size tub are you using for mixing how many bags can it take 🤔
I’ll have to look - I can remember to be honest ha! But it’s easily holds 6 bags of Render 👍
I was just about to ask the same thing :)

I use Webber OCR…I went over it pretty much 20 mins later and finished it off. I don’t use standard sand anymore
@@PlasteringForBeginners yes I don’t use sand and cement any more only bag.
Nice!,what UA-cam is missing, is you doing a pebble dash video....
Not many plasterers know how to pebble dash that is the question ,,or rough cast all to do with the correct mixes
Once again, very informative video. I actually purchased the speed skims watching oyur plastering clips, but now i only use one for flattening.
Maybe mention saying overlap the mesh by 100mm. Apart from that nice video mate
Good call!

Hey I would recommend you put your render on a spot board you will ruin you fore arms scooping out of the bucket. How come you didn't sbr?
What did you use to fix in the beading at the DPC line? Just screws? Adhesive?

Looked at the thumbnail, and thought prince Harry had taken up plastering.....
Is the bagged render àlot more expensive than sand and cement to buy.
Yeah, it’s about a 30% dearer (maybe more depending on where you get it from)

Oright bud what do you use for a white background for pebble dashing or white render

How come you done a scratch coat with that stuff. Are you going over it with a different product?
You ever roughcast mate? We do slot of it but just curious to how you do it differently etc
I don’t to be honest mate.
I never get asked to do it in Hastings so there’s never a chance. I’ve done it up north but never in Hastings where I live.
Excellent. I’m rendering in the next few days, sand and cement though.
lovely job, micro plastic nightmare.
Is this a 2 bag system as in scratch coat then a different bag for finish?
Why you rendering them nice bricks?
Customers choice 👍

I use Feb waterproofed for my sand cement mix. There’s probably better but that’s what I always used pal.

Are you doing a render course , like the plastering one you did

Shame he didn't see your question and answer. What did you do in the end and how did it go?

Hi mate. Just house the Render down before applying your top coat. No need for primer. Just a decent coat of water
Best ocr on market weber ocr.
Great content & info blaine. 👍

For aright handed plasterer left to right sure 46 years in the trade
It’s the opposite with Rendering. It allows you to work the render back into itself.
one thing, use a tape measure to measure the length of the mesh,
It's faster to pull the mesh up and cut the bottom.
We mesh different to the vid, we don't cut mesh 1st, we apply 3-5mm 1st coat Eco rend in a mesh section, pull mesh up, serrate in with edge bar, cut mesh and comb if needed.
