    I've recently rendered 2 extensions I had built. Never rendered before but had to take the job on myself because the builder did a runner on us. I'd been following a renderer on insta for a while and he'd always used PRB. So I took a liking to it and had some specs done by a rep. But the cost was too high. I ended up asking if I could use sc grit as a base and top (which I could) and then sponge finished it. Really enjoyed doing it and was really impressed with it 💪

    I watch you and Blaine from plastering for beginners and I've learned a lot from you pair sharing your knowledge/ talents and I thank you both for that. My question I have for you is this.. I'm base coating my house with HP12. Now I'm putting on a thin coat first and building it up to 12mm . My problem is ruling off. I'm finding the hp12 is being dragged off with my feather edge like it's sticking. I'm constantly washing down the feather edge to keep it as wet as possible as this is the only way I can stop the dragging. I'm ruling no more than 6 foot height at a time and the 4 foot width of the feather edge. Is this my doing our is hp12 the issue?? I'm a complete novice at this..

    I used this a couple of years ago and it's a very good product. It does have an achilles heal!!
    It's very hard to find a stockist that holds many of the colours, and so you have to get it delivered. If you're slightly short or have to re-do a bit for any reason, you cant just pop down the rd and get a couple of bags, the supplier will charge you a woping £60 delivery and they don't really like splitting a pallet either (50 bags). I had to drive to Essex to pick couple of bags up off of Facebook marketplace in the end and won't use this stuff again.

    Kirk, we have bought a project where the render has been painted with a plastic type paint that is peeling off and almost impossible to remove. So do I remove all the render and start again, or go over the surface with a render base board and re render? The bungalow is on a very exposed area of Cornwall and as such we have bee told to apply a render that can be maintained, rather than a coloured product. There are 2 new extensions to consider so I can step out the new blockwork to accommodate a board so the surface is then flat along its length to re render. So what base board would you recommend ?

    What’s your opinion on thin coat render Kirk

    • @Onthetrowel
      @Onthetrowel 5 днів тому +1

      I don't like it mate, it's to much of a drawn out process for in my opinion a less desirable look.
      I've done loads of it and I prefer the look of scraped.
      That said my ultimate favourite is lime render

    Even though your saying its a cavity wall I would have been very dubious about thermalite being used as an outer skin??? Brick or concrete block no problems but am sure thermalite were never meant for exterior use no matter what they are coated with?? I suppose time will tell but they will absorb water and maybe go green mouldy ! Nice job and quality work and sorry for the negative.

      Agreed. In my experience, the tile forms the cavity in these builds (my house is identical) and it’s solid behind the tiled areas. I think there will be problems!

    Lovely job bigman would have liked to seen the SBR rolled prior to hp12. Seeing wasn’t using HPX. put 30 bag HPX on a job along with R7 wet tacky. Your is pissy stuff but do believe it’s probs the best bomb proof backing out. HP12 as all rounder nearly lovely to coat with rubs good. HPX doesn’t

      Certainly so as on want have mesh trowel right into it lol. Strength would best but not the best to put on the wall. When was putting on all the sds chisel marks going over them turn away look back all dropping all over place 😆😆😆🤙. Problem all these renders go to shit pretty quickly. So high maintenance for clients if want fresh and clean looking all the time.
