Just came across this recipe for cabbage smoothie and tried it. I was pleasantly surprised! It was not bad!! I had to add another banana for sweetness. I will make it again..
That is really great to hear Jean. Thanks for sharing with me, and yes, you can definitely add in a little more fruit at first to get used to the flavor and then vary it up as desired. Cheers!
YUM!!!
Hi thanks for all the tips.. my question is in my grocery store never saw this cabbage. They have only the white cabbage that ok?? Thanks to reply
Thank you, youuuuuu r outstanding first and as well.
Wonderful to hear, thank you!
Best explanation
Great to hear you enjoyed it :)
Great question Pascale. In the grocery store they almost always remove the cabbage greens or outer leaves & simply sell head of cabbage. While you can experiment with some cabbage leaves of the head, it will change the taste of the smoothie from slightly to considerably. The leaves I am using are simply the outer leaves of the cabbage that are not part of the head. I would say almost any cabbage variety will do but to find them with their leaves try a farmer's market or if u can grow your own :)
Recipe starts at 12:40

Have you done a video on how to make your own Ezekiel Bread. I live in an area that doesn't offer a selection and would like to know how to make this from someone like you with your knowledge...I love your videos. Keep them coming please.
Thank you for the nice feedback, Catherine. I have not done a video on making your own bread of any kind, as the main purpose of this channel is to teach people how to eat food in its most whole and natural form, as well as in simple, quick, and easy ways. The process of baking is not in alignment with any of that, and the process of making Ezekiel bread is even more time and effort-intensive.
So while some healthy bread, like Ezekiel is possible as part of a whole food plant-based diet, the most I can offer on this subject is the following quick video on how to pick the healthiest bread: ua-cam.com/video/ZV7Wm2fjDE4/v-deo.html
p.s. I explain why high and prolonged temperatures applied to food are not a good idea in my "Cook Real Food" video course on Udemy: bit.ly/2WaJkKu

Love this. I'm wondering, however...no one ever seems to mention watercress as a smoothie recipe. I know it's quite peppery, but I have found blending it with sweeter fruits seems to provide a great balance of flavor. Would love to see your take on using watercress as an ingredient in not only smoothies but in anything. Apologies in advance if you have already, but I haven't watched every video yet 🙂
Thank you Tee for your valid comment and feedback. I have not covered watercress in any great depth. However, watercress can most definitely be used for green smoothies or salads and similar meals, and is an extremely healthy choice. But as you pointed out, it is a leafy green that tends to change the flavor quite a bit, which does not make it an ideal choice for many people, especially those new to green smoothies. Secondly, it is not an easy leafy green or practical one for many people to get, and I aim to focus on foods that are as practical and easy as possible for most people to get. Cheers :)
Very Good punctuation & speech skill❤
Thank you for your kind and valuable feedback.
Thank you

I love smoothies and now in love
Great to hear you are taking steps to nourish your body in healthy ways!
Hi, I love your information videos,,I would like to ask if I can use cauliflower leaves and broccoli leaves in my green smoothies, I do have cabbage also,,thank you
Great to hear, Tom and thank you! Yes, you can easily use broccoli leaves, they make great green smoothies. Cauliflower leaves, not as much, as they are tougher and have a stronger sulfur flavor that most people don't enjoy.
Excellent communication skills
Thank you so much for your feedback.
"Regular elimination". A nice way of wording it.😊
Thanks for watching, Theresa!
Organic tastes better also. Thank you. Very informative.
You are most welcome Patricia.
When I find bananas in a bag at the store (marked down because they are almost over ripe) I buy them & when I get home, I peel & freeze separately in small plastic bags. That way I can use them in smoothies & thawed for added flavor in banana breads.
Excellent to hear, Janet. Thank you for sharing your comment.
thats lovely
Glad you enjoyed it!
Im gonna try this! I have the ingredients except for peach but i think it's ok! Thank you
For sure, you can substitute the peach for another fruit, like mangoes or strawberries or blueberries or pineapple, which tend to go best in such green smoothies. Enjoy :)
Yeah I already tried the kale smoothie with banana and chia seeds! I will definitely try the cabbage smoothie! I just love your channel ❤❤❤
Thank you so much, Rosemarie!!!!
I like your voice tone apart from the smoothie :)
Thank you for watching and sharing your feedback! If you tried making the smoothie and did not enjoy the flavor, try a bit more fruit and less greens to start :)
@@Healthytarian q
I had read that it is easier to digest the seeds if we buy ground rather than whole seeds. But I noticed you used whole chia seeds. Is it more nutritious for me to use the whole rather than ground chia seeds?
When you are making smoothies, the blender is breaking down the seed for you. So in this case, you can easily use the whole seed because it will be broken down by the blender. Whole seeds last longer and keep fresh better than ground ones. So if you are buying ground seeds, it is important to get them from a source you trust and make sure they are the freshest possible, as their delicate fats break down more easily and the product can go rancid more easily than the whole seed.
Thank you.
You're welcome, and thank you for watching.
I made this with my older napa cabbage leaves that are yellow and added a nugget of ginger. Oh it taste so good. Is my organic cabbage a different variety?
Great to hear that you enjoyed it, Lisa. There are many varieties of cabbage, so you can use whatever works best for you.
you have a wonderful voice.
Thank you for your kind compliment.
You are welcome!...:)
Do you recommend soaking the chia seeds before consuming? I heard that it makes them more digestable and less prone to expand once they're inside your digestive system.
While it is good practice for optimal digestion to soak most nuts and seeds, chia seeds are not as essential in this case. Plus, the act of blending opens them up and pulverizes them to be very easy to digest. But if you have the time and desire, yes you can soak them. Just keep in mind that chia seeds will gel when exposed to water, unlike other nuts or seeds. This is normally fine for smoothies, but wouldn't be if you wanted to eat them in say a salad or something like that.
Good morning: I am so enjoying your video. But I am not sure clear... is a serving 8 or 16 oz.? Thanks in advance for your response.
Great to hear, Rita, thank you. With regard to how much green smoothie this combo of ingredients will make, it is about 16 oz but it flexible and will depend on the size and quantity of the ingredients you use. For example, just adjusting with water quantity alone will give you slightly more or less of the smoothie.
With regard to how much you should drink, there is no set serving because you need to decide what is right for you - your health and metabolic needs, and whatever else you may or may not be eating along with the smoothie. So let your needs and your body guide your choices.
Would steaming the tougher veggies like cabbage be ok. Steaming retains the vitamins and will make them softer for blending?
Ideally, you want to have the raw fruit or vegetable for most nutritional integrity. As long as you have a good blender that can handle leafy greens, it can handle raw cabbage just fine. Cheers!
Hellow can you use kale with the fruit also from Phila.
Hi Chico, yes for sure. Please watch my complete green smoothie video to be fully informed: ua-cam.com/video/JL_DIOjZfq0/v-deo.html

I never knew you could use cabbage for smoothie thanks can't wait to try it God bless
Do you have to soak chia seeds before using. I heard that one should so chia seeds do not soak up water from your body (or smoothie). Would help. Thank you.
While you should soak most nuts and seeds, there are some exceptions and some flexibility is also always required. Chia seeds can be soaked, but do not need to be soaked given their easy digestibility in a blended form, like a smoothie. Yes, you can soak them if you like, but as long as you are drinking enough water daily and not overdoing the chia seeds, there is no problem with not soaking them.
Like to know what kind of cabbage you used in the smoothie?! There are so many types of cabbage and don’t want to use the wrong one as some of them are way too bitter and shouldn’t be used in a smoothie.
Hi there. It was just a regular green-leaf variety that I found at a local market. The video was made many years ago and I cannot be sure of the exact species that was used. It was simply the most general and usual one sold in markets and grocery stores - none of the fancy cabbages.
First off I want to thank you for your video. My only concern is when you go buy cabbage all the leaves have been peeled off, would like to know what other leafy greens I could that would give me the same health benefits.
You are very welcome, Shirley. If you have a farmer's market in your area, that would be where you can normally find cabbages with all of their leaves.
For all information related to green smoothies and the types of leafy greens you can use, please refer to my official green smoothie video here: ua-cam.com/video/JL_DIOjZfq0/v-deo.html

hi, today I saw savoy cabbage in the super market is that ok?? thanks you

What's the benefits of this smoothie pls??
I explain all that in this video and article: www.evolvingwellness.com/post/an-introduction-to-making-green-smoothies-their-benefits
Can I mix cucumber, apple, and lemon with water to be used as a smoothie? Will it still work if I can't buy organic?
You do not have to buy organic for it to work. The most important thing is to eat the whole fruits and vegetables in high amounts daily, and this is where green smoothies like this can help. We should simply aim to get organic produce as much as we can because it decreases the amount of toxins in our bodies and helps our environment too.
However, I don't recommend adding cucumber to this mixture, as it will change the flavor and composition. Cucumber, apple, and lemon together make a great juice, if you have a juicer, but not a smoothie. You can, however, swap the peach in my example to be an apple instead, and it will work nicely too. No need for the lemon juice, unless you really want it for some reason. Cheers!
I got a "green" cabbage but the leaves were not as green as the one in your video. They were more white than green, or a very pale green. I'd assume the greener the healthier, so what type of cabbage are you using that is so deeply saturated green?
+Chuck Kahn Most cabbages that are of a green variety, as opposed to red, will have deeply green outer leaves. Those are the leaves that I am using. These are usually the loose, outer leaves that people discard when they buy a cabbage, if the cabbage even has them. Most at farmer's markets would, some stores may. I grow my own, so have the whole cabbage as is.
However, you can still do a cabbage smoothie with the lighter, inner leaves. And even though the outer will have more chlorophyll (hence the darker green), the inner ones are just as healthy as they have all of the healing goodies attributed to the cruciferous vegetables. The typical varieties that I work with are green cabbage, savoy cabbage, and even napa cabbage. The last one can add a little "spicy" effect to the smoothie, but I still enjoy it.
I didn't buy organic cabbage or anything else. Can I use a apple? My cabbage doesn't have green leaves because they were dirty so I didn't get them, sorry
Could you tell me about a dry figs smotthies, maybe with spinach
Please see my green smoothie template video to better know what ingredients you may wish to use and why: ua-cam.com/video/JL_DIOjZfq0/v-deo.html
It is not recommended that you use dry fruits in smoothies, but rather focus on fresh fruits. Dry fruits are best kept for small snacks.
You mentioned that you do not like to drink coffee because of the caffeine. What do you feel about matcha tea? It has caffeine, but only about half of the amount of coffee.
Hi Larry, I actually do not drink coffee for much bigger reasons; when it comes to coffee we are completely abusing what should be used like a medicine, and a strong one at that, in our society today. Either way, matcha tea is a much better choice, if you'd like a coffee replacement, and like coffee it has its own unique benefits and medicinal properties, but you can be more liberal and comfortable with it. (As for me, I just personally do not enjoy tea, and only drink herbal the odd time, so no matcha either.)

Hi looks nice, but for diabetic , banana is not good. Do you hv video of smoothies less sugar ingredient?
The information about fruits not being good for diabetics is based on outdated nutrition ideas. Fruits are some of the best foods to prevent and treat diabetes. To learn more about this it requires that you would be open to changing your mind about what you have been conditioned to believe.
Recommended resources to start with would be as follows:

I’m confused as there are many vids on UA-cam showcasing great smoothies, but there’s also some which advise against. I k ow some of the great Whole food plant based doctors like Dr Esselstyn, never show blended foods. So is it better to,eat the food and masticate or is it better to drink smoothies, or does it matter? Are there any scientific research papers giving guidance?
Hi Ian, confusion arises simply because different people have and share information from different perspectives. If you understand the person's perspective and factors that lead to their conclusion, you will understand why they are sharing what they are. There is no doubt that eating the foods whole and non-blended, like in a smoothie is better for the most part. But look at it this way, if a person is going to eat very little or no foods like leafy greens especially, or even fruit, under normal circumstances, but will as part of a smoothie, then the smoothie is a fantastic idea.
The truth is that ANY processing of food, whether at home or at the industrial level is going to impact the food in some way. People cook all the time, which is one of the most destructive processing methods done to food and don't think twice. Why? Because it is a matter of balancing health and practicality and enjoyment. So there is nothing wrong with green smoothies for the most part and you can rely on them if you enjoy them and if they help you eat more fruits and vegetables, especially leafy greens.
Dr. Esselstyn is against them because he is heavily involved in heart disease research and his perspectives and priorities are a bit different than that of another doctor or nutrition expert. For example Dr. Joel Kahn, another heart doctor drinks green smoothies himself and recommends them. Dr. Greger talks about green smoothies in some of his videos and presents several sides of the story and different considerations. None of this needs to be confusing, as again different perspectives and priorities will influence each person, doctors and experts included.
You need to think what will work best for you. Will a green smoothie hurt you? Not likely. Will it help you get more of the right foods quickly and easily? Very likely.
As for science, the more you learn to reason for yourself the better off you will be. Science today is highly flawed and all too often says what it is paid to say. There is no money in homemade green smoothies, so you won't find much research about them specifically. Of course there are some good studies and Dr. Greger is great at talking about all that, but the more you rely on external sources to tell you what is right and what to do, the more you are bound to be disappointed or led down a path that may not be right for you. Best wishes.
Healthytarian very comprehensive reply thanks. I’m still holding out hope that at some point scientific research will happen. It’s not the purpose of such research to direct but it ought to be the purpose to inform. As you imply it’s always going to be different horses for different courses so it should be up to individuals to choose best options. I agree that much of what we have available now comes under conflict of undisclosed and disclosed interest but maybe one day an independent organisation that has no vested interests in the sale of blenders or growing or organic vegetables and fruits will sponsor research. I’m doing what you describe, and using smoothies to deliver the greens which I’d otherwise miss.
You are most welcome, and that is great to hear Ian. Some independent testing organizations exist, like the EWG (they have quite a few good resources if you are not familiar with them), and some others, but yes, we definitely could benefit from more in this regard. Thanks for sharing more of your thoughts about this topic!
how many times in a day can drink smoothie breakfast, lunch, dinner?
It is real whole food, so you can eat it (drink it) anytime technically that works for your health needs and preferences.
Could plaintain be used as a sub for banana
It could, as long as it is super ripe. It will not provide the same flavor and sweetness as the banana, but it can be a nice addition nonetheless. The best thing to do is to try it to see if you like it and if it works for you.
Good
Does it work for menopause’s
All whole plant foods improve women's hormones and are better for overall health and wellbeing. So, yes, you can enjoy green smoothies like this for best health! Animal foods interfere with proper hormone function and are the most likely, along with sugar in processed foods, to make your menopause symptoms worse.
