  • In this two part video series I show you how to replace or remove your power steering pump in an 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5L. Also how to replace the power steering high pressure line, as well as replacing the power steering suction hose to the reservoir. This should be similar for all 02-06 Nissan Altima 3.5L -
Tackling a major power steering leak on Project Altima, eventually replacing the pump, high pressure hose, and suction hose.

great great vid man! I have power steering problem too, I was told by my local shop that my rack and pinion, high pressure hose is bad. I've brought the high pressure hose but have not gotten the rack and pinion yet. watching your vids is REALLY helpful! Tomorrow my buddy and I is going under the hood to replace my fuel injectors, spark plugs PCV Valve. I'm going to try to record it and post it on UA-cam! Thanks again Brother and pls keep those vids coming!

Thanks Herman! Glad I could shed some light on things for you. Let me know how those spark plugs go, I heard you have to take off the intake manifold to reach the back ones cause the motor is such a tight fit.

Thank you! Great video. I own a 2006 SE R. The power steering belt slipped off while I was driving on the highway. Your video helped me out a lot

Good video. I liked the text overlays and the clear call outs to what you were doing.

I have an '06. My pump was leaking from the inner seal. I replaced it without removing the tie rod or the cv axle. The banjo blot was the most difficult part. Paid $65 for the pump from eBay which came with the low pressure fitting. Switched over the bracket and pulley with ease and saved myself a bunch of money. No leaks and the job was 100% successful.

Thanks for the video. The most important and easy part to do as you said is to degrease the engine to look for the leak.

Thank you. I just bought the high pressure line today. But at 160,000 miles, I feel better starting there. I think I will buy the cheaper rubber hose also, before I install it.
    Why not, right?

I'm going to have to check that. I got the power steering pump replaced, the power steering cooling hose, and the high pressure hoes replaced. Still a leak. If this is the case I'm going to be pissed 🤦🏽‍♂️😂

    • @SparkPlugProjects

My guess is they all leak, May just be the last piece of the puzzle, let me know!

@@SparkPlugProjects I went under the other day and removed the hose. It is the power steering pump leaking again. I seen on the paper where the mechanic got a refurbished pump instead of a brand new. Basically ripped me off 🤦🏽‍♂️🤣

I just went through this repair...it's funny how my Altima SE-R has the exact same problems as yours...that's Nissan engineering sadly :/ . As for the power steering, I found the culprit. After dying over the engine like you did and replacing my OE power steering hose...I took it apart...it was NOT leaking, so I did all that work for free lol. I found the leak from the PS Fluid reservoir and the hoses that are attached to it...the hoses are rubber and over time don't seal well

Yeah that suction hose from the reservoir was leaking from mine also! Good job on getting it fixed, yeah they're a challenge for sure.

Thanks for your video! I have a power steering leak on my 05 Altima SL too. Will definitely check that cheaper hose first! Have you replaced the spark plugs on your car? Any helpful guides? I want to replace mine and upgrade the cold air intake, the engine bay is just so tight.

You can find some forum online. Try google as a start! Thankfully when I purchased the car the first owner had the PS High Pressure hose replaced. The suction hose shows a small leak. Definitely gonna start there too

Hi, Not sure what your problem could be, Did you replace the entire power steering pump or you tried to rebuild you're old one? When the car is on you should be able to open the power steering reservoir and see the fluid cycling inside to tell if your pump is operational.

I have the same car as you can you make a video how you take the suction hose off

    • @SparkPlugProjects
      @SparkPlugProjects  7 років тому

Hey Justin, The suction hose isn't too difficult to remove, check out 7:50 in this video. The two clamps I move into place are all the hold the hose secure. Slide the the top clamp down at the reservoir, and then one below on the power steering pump. With those moved down you can just pull the hose off. I recommend draining the reservoir up top with a cheap turkey baster. You can suck the fluid out with that so it doesn't all leak out when you remove the hose. Also, If you check out EP:6 you can see me actually remove the bottom hose at around six minutes in that video. Hope it works out for you.
