  • In this two part video series I show you how to replace or remove your power steering pump in an 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5L. Also how to replace Power steering high pressure line. This should be similar for all 02-06 Nissan Altima 3.5L -
    Tackling a major power steering leak on Project Altima, eventually replacing the pump, high pressure hose, and suction hose.

    Thanks man. You helped me decide not to do this job myself. Props for getting it done on your own! Great video. I especially like the arrows you added post production.

    Hey I just finished mine and I learned that if u don't have a 24mm for the pressure hose bolt,a 15/16 wrench will do the same thing

    What i learned in this video is when changing the hose you
    Might as well change the powersterring pump as well

      Yeah it's a good amount of work to get to, and hard to pinpoint the leak, so I changed out as much as I could

    wanted to know where the low pressure line is to drain power steering

    • @SparkPlugProjects
      @SparkPlugProjects  7 років тому

      There is a suction line that connects to the bottom of the reservoir in the engine bay, then down to the power steering pump. It's the larger hose on the power steering pump. Removing that would drain the reservoir and most of the fluid in the pump. FYI it'll makes a mess! Good luck! You can use a cheap turkey baster to suction the fluid from the reservoir first to lessen the mess.

    Thank you for sharing your experience with us, your video was very helpful. I just did mine, at first I changed the high pressure hose and because I didn't take quick action changing the hose I ended up changing the pump and the return hose from reservoir. I noticed that if you dismantle the windshield wipers and the bay underneath, you will not need to touch the axle and you will have a plenty of room and you can work from top especially to reach 1) the 10 mm bolt holding the high pressure hose to the manifold, 2) remove the hidden 14 mm bolt holding the PS pump from the back of the pump and 3) remove the front 12 mm bolt with the tension bolt. All what you need to remove the pump is ratchet wrenches 14 & 12 and if you have a stubby wrenches will be more helpful. Removing the windshield will take 10 minutes work. Putting back the repaired/new pump was little challenging but interesting. Good luck everybody!

    This don't work for a 2.5.... The bracket is accessed via the top of the car (14mm, the other screws are 12mm and 10mm respectively 2:1, but I don't remember which had two of them).... You have to brake the pulley loose to get at one of the 12s / the 12. Do that by loosening the tensor to get the belt off and putting a socket on the crank pulley for leverage. There's a small bracket on the back side of the pump itself with a welded nut attached to it. That has 2 12s (or 10s?) attached to it. Remove those screws and the bracket will fall off once the 14 is taken off from the top. That's the long screw on this car (the 2.5/4 cylinder).... Take the 24mm hose off before loosening the 14mm long bolt from the top (or at least loosen it to hand turning). Also, as he noted, take the hose off before doing this. Get the pulley off first, then the small screws, then the 24 (there's little space... maybe drain it) and the hose on top (either order).... Hit the 14mm long bolt last.

      It’s hard as Hell to get to the long 14mm bolt on the top. It seem like the engine needs to be dropped but the oil filter will need to be removed. (2.5L)

    • @josephlafayettegaston2449

    • @SparkPlugProjects
      @SparkPlugProjects  5 років тому

      Depends on the engine type, this is a 3.5 in the video. Should be similar for all 3.5 engine 02-06 Altima

    • @aaronlaflam2454
      @aaronlaflam2454 4 роки тому

      Yes it should be either exactly the same or 99% identical, if you had a variation it would be a different manufacturer of either the pump or a hose/line during mid production and thus the only way to be 100% sure would be to have both the VIN numbers and compare them at the local Nissan dealer but for what it's worth I'm sure it's exactly the same, lol...

    Did you have any problems with fitment of your NAPA high pressure hose or the power steering pump. Thinking of ordering the same part along with rack and pinion for my Altima.

    Worse car I've ever owned, had to replace the alternator which you need to disassemble half the car and your wife's car to do, then a week later (I'm guessing from removing it for the alternator) the radiator created Niagara Falls in my driveway. I've been having an issue with the steering only when I first start it up in colder weather, but today it finally died on me while on the highway. I rather pay someone to repair the power steering at this point than do it myself.
